Architecting Application Services For Hybrid Cloud - AWS Summit SG 2017Amazon Web Services
The cloud is transforming the way businesses deploy and manage applications. Organizations are increasingly deploying and migrating applications to public and private clouds primarily to drive agility, operational efficiency and cost savings.
While we all recognize the benefits of Cloud, the fact is that there are significant differences between how an application runs in a public IaaS provider data center designed for multiple tenants and how it runs in your private enterprise datacenter.
Whether applications are revenue generating or critical business apps, they must ensure the same great user experience, including across associated availability, performance, and security services. However, there are challenges that need to be addressed, including determining which workloads are suitable for the cloud due to the inherent design of cloud data centers, the application delivery and security capabilities of each cloud provider, and the overall lack of visibility and control.
Attend F5 Networks presentation session to learn how App-Centric Strategy provides the critical services to make your business applications GO SMARTER. FASTER. This session shows how AWS Mobile Hub can help to reduce the complexity of building mobile apps.

We built event-driven user interfaces for decades. What about bringing the same approach to mobile, web, and IoT backend applications? You have to understand how data flows and what is the propagation of changes, using reactive programming techniques. You can focus on the core functionalities to build and the relationships among the resources you use. Your application behaves similarly to a “spreadsheet”, where depending resources are updated automatically when something “happens”, and is decomposed into scalable microservices without having to manage the infrastructure. The resulting architecture is efficient and cost effective to run on AWS and managing availability, scalability and security becomes part of the implementation itself.

Cloud Expo Silicon Valley 2013 | Why Lease When You Can Buy Your CloudMark Hinkle
Perhaps one of the perplexing things about cloud computing is the choice around renting time in someone else’s cloud (Amazon, Google, Rackspace or a myriad of others) or building your own. It’s not unlike the age-old car buyer’s dilemma, take the lower payments and lower total miles lease or buy the car and drive it for the long haul. Cloud computing users are often faced with the same conundrum. This presentation will focus on how to buy and build a cloud that can be fulfill the needs of most users including strategies for making use of the open source private cloud or managing workloads in both the private and public cloud using open source software.
This presentation provides an overview of how we got to serverless architecture, the benefits and drawbacks of it, and a quick example built with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

How to Successfully Exploit the Power of the Matrix - ENT225 - re:Invent 2017Amazon Web Services
Leading Edge Forums (LEF) has labelled the synergistic combination of cloud computing and machine intelligence (MI) as ‘the Matrix’: the combination of cloud services such as IaaS, IoT, MI, and edge computing. For companies to thrive, they need to know the answers to the following questions: How are successful companies harnessing the power of the Matrix? How do they structure their organizations? What makes them so agile? How do they attract and retain skilled employees? LEF studies successful businesses and learns what makes them great. Our 6-month research program has dived deep with multiple AWS customers to understand not only their use of the technology, but also the business transformation program that allowed them to maximize the value that AWS provides. Attend this session to learn more about the research that has been done, client examples, observations that the LEF has made and how this can be used to help drive your transformation program.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Team
In order to create a truly sustainable, champion tech
team:
o Ensure a healthy blend of inspirational generals and
motivated soldiers.
o Ensure a blend of personality types and styles.
o Promote a strong, positive culture & morale.
o Make innovation & continuous improvement systemic
& infectious.
o Ruthlessly avoid building key person risk.
o Assume each team member is “just passing through”
and promote career development, mentoring,
coaching.
o Don’t focus on retaining people. Focus on attracting
talent.
