Abraham Maslow And The American Psychological Association
Abraham Maslow (1908 1970), some time President of the American Psychological Association,
is best known for his work on human motivation and in particular for his Hierarchy of Needs,
which was first defined in a paper of 1943. Five basic needs are defined, all of which he
considered to be hard wired in the human species. They are arranged hierarchically, with self
actualization referring to people s desire for self fulfillment, namely, the tendency for them to
become actualized in what they are potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to
become more and more what one idiosyncratically is, to become everything that one is capable of
becoming (Maslow, 1943, p.22). Maslow s 1943 paper mentions cognitive needs such as the
desire to know and to understand, and also aesthetics, but does not place them within the
hierarchy of five. In other words Maslow recognized, even at this early stage, that his list was
incomplete. In spite of this reservation it has been widely reproduced as a complete theory, on
the way acquiring its own pictorial representation in the form of a triangle or pyramid, which is
reproduced in countless publications. Because the five needs are latently or actively present in
all members of the human species, they are described as being biologically rooted . This is a key
theme throughout Maslow s work. He is dealing with the characteristics of a particular species,
some of which may be shared with other species, but nevertheless he avoids

Agency And Autonomy In Children s Literature
Agency and Autonomy in Children s Literature One of the themes that characterize children s
literature is the question of agency. Agency in children s literature allows the child reader to
experience a degree of autonomy in the imagined world, which the child does not possess in a
world governed by adult rules and authority. However, a close reading of Milne s Winnie the
Pooh and Collins The Hunger Games demonstrates that children have more power and agency
than they believe they do. Although children s worlds are controlled by various restrictions,
children possess the power of imagination, the ability to create their own worlds, and that is their
source of autonomy and agency. As they grow older, they gradually start losing that agency as
they enter into the adult world, a world governed by a different kind of obedience. Winnie the
Pooh is a series of short stories read to Christopher Robin. What makes these stories unique is that
Christopher Robin is both a character in the story and a reader. He participates in the story telling;
he gets to control parts of the narratives his father reads to him. The introduction sets the stage for
the rest of the stories; Milne starts by introducing Pooh,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

don t get honey with balloons! When Pooh replies with I do (Milne 12), Christopher Robin does
not argue with him; he actually accepts it and offers him the balloons he has. This acceptance
highlights that Pooh is allowed to think for himself, imagine, and create his own reality even
when it does not make sense. The emphasis on the I by Pooh also suggests the degree of
autonomy he possesses; it does not matter if someone else believes it is wrong as long as he
believes in it and accepts

The Superhero Of Aqua Man
The superhero that I have chosen is Aqua man I have chosen this superhero as it is something
different, unique and at the same time challenging. Aqua man has been an icon for over seventy
years. He is the king of seven seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis. Atlantis is the name of a
continent located in the North Atlantic Ocean and represents one of the earliest and most highly
advanced cultural societies on Earth. Aqua man holds his own against heroes like Superman and
Wonder Woman. Aqua man cast out from Atlantis as a baby, he grew up on land thinking that he
was a normal human being. However, after he started getting older and older and started becoming
mature, Atlantis returned clamming aqua man as their rightful king. Caught... Show more content on

The reason we cannot breathe liquid water is because the oxygen we use to make the water is
guaranteed to two hydrogen atoms, and we cannot breathe the resultant liquid. The oxygen is
unusable to our lungs in this form. Humans cannot breathe because our lungs do not have
enough surface area to absorb enough oxygen form water, and the coating in our lungs is
modified to handle air rather than water. There have been experiments with humans breathing
other liquids like fluorocarbons. A fluorocarbon is a compound formed by replacing one or
more of the hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon with fluorine atoms. Fluorocarbons can dissolve
enough oxygen and our lungs can draw the oxygen out. Fish breathe oxygen dissolved in water
with the help of their gills. Fish have gills and why this works is because fishes are cold blooded
and this reduces oxygen loads. Warm blooded animals like whales breathe air just as we humans
do, as it is hard to extract enough oxygen using their gills.

Texas Supreme Court Case Analysis
Texas consists of three branches of government; the executive, legislative, and judicial branch.
Texas government is modeled very similarly to The United States three branches. Specifically
within the judicial branch, there is a Supreme Court, which is the highest federal court of The
United States [National]. There is also a Supreme Court in Texas; which is the highest court in the
state. A 5 4 decision by The United StatesSupreme Court on June 26th, 2015 ended all state bans
on same sex marriage and requires all fifty states to recognize marriages legally performed in
other states. Immediately after this historic decision was made, in disobedience of the Supreme
Court, Texas attorney general said, that county clerks can refuse to issue marriage licenses to
same sex couples if they object on religious grounds. This was Texas initial reaction to the ruling.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a presidential contender, said he was disappointed with the ruling
and as president, I would appoint strict constitutional conservatives who will apply the law as
written.
The issue here is that states such as Texas feel as if The Supreme court has... Show more content on

TITLE
Kim is based on the India that Kipling experiences during his five years of working there as a
newspaper reporter. His residence near the primary British Army base in Northwest
India....enhanced his already intense admiration for the martial life (Matin 359). Events in the
novel are manipulated to formulate Kipling s dream of dominated India. Being a product of his
time, Kipling believes that the British empire has an obligation to bring enlightenment to inferior
races and underdeveloped countries. His idea of the best way to rule the native India is
expressed by creating Kim who is born in the country, resulting in Kim s appreciation and favor
of the Indian culture. Kipling constructs the native India consists of salvage people who are
waiting to be civilized by British and limited by their races no matter how much they contribute
to the imperialist system. He has people positively speak on empire s behalf and recognize the
work of British men. Moreover, all the characters exist in the story to help Kim going on the
right track to become an imperialist boy and rise above everyone else. Kim s ultimate choice of
British empire s interest over his loved lama and his being blessed for doing so successfully deliver
Kipling s imperialism message.

Heroism As A Hero
As Mahatma Gandhi once said Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an
indomitable will. Heroes don t always have to be on the big screen like in movies or shows. Being
a hero involves wanting to do good in life and reaching goals. For this is the way true heroes are
brought to light. Heroism involves the act of sacrificing for the good of others and being
courageous but, it does not always lead to a great success in the end. Heroes sacrificethemselves to
help benefit others and to follow through achievements. Like during the hard times of 9/11, a man
named Vincent Ardolino sacrificed himself in order to save the people of his community. While he
was rescuing, he said Take me now, leave them here. This shows that he was willing to stand up,
work through challenges, and sacrifice himself which is what a true herowould do. Another man
named Captain Vikram Batraalso sacrificed himself to help his fellow companions. While he and
his crew were climbing up a mountain to reach their enemies during war, he got injured. Even
though he got hurt, this did not hold Batra back from saving his officer who was severely
injured too. Another man of his crew attempted to save the officer but Batra did not allow since
he could ve gotten really hurt. Then he saved his officer but ended up dead. He sacrificed his all
in order to keep his crew safe and protected. His actions brought him to light and showed that he
was a hero. Furthermore, real heroes do all they

Giving Back Research Paper
Giving back hold a high part of my life and special part in my heart. I ve always been told if I can
give back, do. Thus, throughout my life, I have participated in many community service projects
and activities. With this being instilled in me at a young age, as a grew older I knew to keep this
lesson as moral. I took this with me through all walks of life and with me to Morehouse College.
Upon my first few days on campus, I came into contact with many different people and became

the College Charity Run. The College Charity Run is held by Lytehouse, as well as, annual at

Stereotypes In Movies
Thanks to actors like ChloГ« Grace Moretz, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, the young adult teen
genre is alive and well on the big screen. However, this is not a cinematic category that s without
its criticisms as films of this nature tend to cater heavily to a young female demographic.
With that said, is this genre receiving the proverbial bad rap? Should we (and by that I mean
anyone outside the age range of 13 23 years old) be giving these films more attention that they re
ultimately garnering?
Well, the simple answer is as long as it s making money, who honestly cares?

In particular, Austin Abrams (as Ben) stands out the brightest as the outspoken, comedic member of
the bunch who enjoys telling tall tales, himself. This character, like Quentin, also pines for the

major supporting role roughly midway through the film).
While Wolff dominates the screentime and Abrams lands the laughs, its acting newcomer (and
British model) Cara Delevingne that shines brighter than the rest. True, she s absent for the vast
majority of the film, but she leaves a lasting impression early on which is even more impressive
due to the simple fact that she s a relatively unknown and inexperienced acting commodity.
Nevertheless, the casting selection pays off and if you think it doesn t, explain to me how she

In all honestly, the solid, well rounded acting came as a complete surprise although, it still wasn t
as shocking as the film s ending. Keep in mind, I don t read these books beforehand, so when a
climax arrives and goes completely against the grain, it s shocking. And, in this case, it s
disappointing, too. Fairytale endings are so common these days that usually in favor of a realistic

Rosa Parks, Gloria Richardson, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Dorothy Height made a difference in the
Civil Rights Movement through protest. Out of all the activists from the civil rights movement

Rosa Parks is a famous leader of the Civil Rights Movement. She is the only women mentioned in

She openly challenged the Mississippi government to desegregate the state, and ended up winning.
She was severely beaten throughout her career as an activist. She was arrested, beaten, shot at, and
threatened. She was beaten so badly in a Mississippi jail, that she suffered permanent kidney
damage. Fannie Lou Hamer helped African Americans be able to vote, by teaching them how to
read and write, making it easier for them to pass literacy tests. She increased the rate of African
American voters, but because of her bold actions, she was kicked off of the plantation she lived
on and lost her job. She spoke to a newspaper telling them, They kicked me off the plantation,
they set me free. It s the best thing that could happen. Now I can work for my people ( Fannie ).
Fannie went on to work for her people by co founding the Mississippi Democratic Freedom party.
She televised a democratic convention discussing the amount of segregation in Mississippi and the

manor connects and supports feudalismin many ways. Larger manors helped with feudalism s
economy. Lords who owned more than one or just one large manor would almost always hire a

Class, Money, Pride and Happiness in Pride and Prejudice,...
Happiness can be defined in a plethora of ways such as good fortune, a state of well being, or a
pleasurable, satisfying experience. William Thackeray s Rebecca Sharp stated in the novel Vanity
Fair that she could be a good woman if she had five thousand pounds and she could dawdle about
in the nursery and count the apricots on the wall (VF 414). Marianne Dashwood of Jane Austens
Sense and Sensibility says that she cannot be happy with a man whose taste did not in every point
coincide with my own (SS 15). Most importantly, Elizabeth Bennet of Austen s Pride and Prejudice
states that she would be happy with someone who has no improper pride and is perfectly amiable

Right from the beginning we understand that Mrs. Bennet s motive is to marry off her 5
daughters(Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia) to eligible suitors, particularly Mr.
Bingley. Mr. Bennet, being a mixture of quick parts (7), is impartial to this and would rather not
visit Mr. Bingley as Mrs. Bennet alludes that it is customary for the father to visit any potential
suitor before the mother does. With this argument, we see that Mrs. Bennet s happiness is directly
linked to the well being of her daughters. We also see that Mr. and Mrs. Bennet s views of what s
right for their daughters are very different from each other with Mrs. Bennet doing whatever it
takes to ensure the happiness of her daughters while Mr. Bennet is not so proactive in this endeavor.
As the main protagonist of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet s views on happiness are very
much so connected to her sense of pride. Mary Bennet, one of the younger Bennet sisters, states
that A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves
(PP 21). Throughout the novel we see that Elizabeth sees herself as a headstrong and sensible
woman; one who would never fall to the fallible feelings caused by love and society. She is much
like another of Austen s protagonists, Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility, who states at one
point during the novel, Sometimes one is guided by what they

In the western world the terms president, and prime minister means, for lack of a better term, the

The Disguise And Trickery Dionysus In Euripides
This play written by Euripides has several little main ideas throughout but one of the main ones
that I am going to focus on is the disguise and trickery Dionysus is able to perform to get what he
wants. Throughout the play Dionysus never got the respect that he felt that he deserved from the
other gods. The reason that Dionysusreceived no respect is because he is mortal; his mother who
was a mortal gave birth to him by a god, so in the world they are living in this makes him equal to
the humans not the gods. Because Dionysus was both Greek and Asiatic, along with being part
god and part human this made him a very diverse being. Dionysus soon realized though that he
could use this to his own advantage, he could easily be disguised as a

Resistance From The Jewish Resistance
Jewish Resistance has been pondered for many years about what it truly was. For most historians
many believe that there was no true form of resistance from the Jewish people to stop the holocaust
while other historians argue that they did all they could in order to stop the holocaust from
happening. While I believe that both sides of this argument are true in the sense that Jewish
Resistance was widespread, but there were no connecting pieces in order to make Jewish Resistance
affective enough to stop the holocaustfrom occurring. In order to even begin to argue if Jewish
resistance was effective or not we have to first know what the actual meaning of resistance is.
Jews had to main forms of resistance, one was known as spiritual resistance while the other was
a more common form of resistance known as armed resistance. One is when you take up
weaponry and manpower in order to stop your oppressors, in this case the Nazis from achieving
their goal of exterminating the Jewish population as a whole. On the other hand, you have
spiritual resistance which were ways of trying to keep Jewish life normal under the Nazi Regime
which were things like continuing to educate the youth and still engaging in Jewish religious
practices even though they had been made unlawful under Nazi rule. While both of these may be
considered resistance Raul Hilberg states that true resistance is when you your efforts are a direct
action to impede the goals of your opposition from succeeding. In which

Characteristics Of Aspirin
SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPIRIN ACETYLSALCYLIC ACID
Summary:
The lab experiment was divided into parts and the synthesis of the aspirin occurred during the
first week. Using 4.032g of salicylic acid 8.0mL of acetic anhydride on a hot bath the reaction
was speeded up by the use of a catalyst phosphoric acid. Once the sample was then left to dry in
the drawer for a week using the melting point apparatus we conducted the purity assessment of the
dried sample.
Introduction:
Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is a commonly known drug used to treat fever, pain and inflammation,
aspirin can also be purchased over the counter medication or by prescription from a doctor. The
synthesis of aspirin occurs by combining acetic anhydride and salicylic acid, salicylic acid is a
naturally occurring product that can be found in the bark of a willow tree1. Since it is highly
acidic and salicylic acid would potentially damage the gastric membrane hence the addition of the
acetic anhydride. C7H6O3+ C4H6O3 C9H8O4 +C2H4O2
A few drops of phosphoric acid are added to the reaction, phosphoric acid acts as a catalyst so as
to speed up the rate of the reaction. The use of the acetic anhydride cautions us to prematurely use
any water so as to prevent any hydrolysis of the acetic anhydride from occurring.
Results and Discussion:
A 400 600mL beaker was filled with water and placed on a hot plate to create a hot water bath and a

That kind of talk made it plain that southerners there stills saw blacks as inferiors, maybe even
slaves.
Miss Emily Grierson suffers from the changes in the south, as well as the effects of being
secluded by her father until he dies. After he dies, she then, in a sense, becomes her father, as
evidenced by her being described as wearing black and clutching a black walking stick when she

dressed in white and it was her father who was clutching a horsewhip. (82) This creates a nice
link between the two as she becomes her father later in the story, and her father clearly was
decadent himself, and of a decadent era, as well. The very fact that he kept slaves and held the
town in his own grip is evidence of that.
Emily herself comes from a long line of fictional southern corruption. In Faulkner s other stories
chronicling the Satoris family, the tradition is one of seedy doings. Also, after learning of Miss
Emily s death, we catch a glimpse of her dwelling, itself a reflection of its late owner. The house
lifts its stubborn and coquettish decay above new traditions just as its spinster is seen to do, an
eyesore among eyesores (80) This description lets us know that this used to be a grand home, built
from much money and probably with the employment of the use of slavery.

The bourgeoisie dominated over many parts of society and karl marx and friedrich engels were
equally very worried about this and began to addressed these issues, in the communist manifesto
and they also felt the need to include how workers were being forced to have to work in such
horrible condition also seeing how their working conditions would affect the workers. Karl marxas

fighting the people who were oppressing them. It was mostly based on how the bourgeoisiehad

Technology And Social Media Has Changed Our Lives
What does technology mean to you? I believe that technology is a tool that should be integrated
into our society to cultivate the future and resemble the past; it has become such an integral part
of our community today that living without it creates a feeling of loneliness. Technology and
Social Media has brought power back to people (Mark McKinnon). Nowadays, technology has
exceeded expectations of people, such as a robot can mow a lawn, clean house, take you to parts
of the world without even visiting, is mesmerizing. I am one of the many students who did not get
an early exposure to technology, and I repent that every day, as they say, that a child can learn,

Teachers need to understand that making kids memorize material will not develop the skills
necessary for them in the future workforce. A computer science faculty and a graduate student at
the University of Georgia, Karen Aguar, has created a website called SAIL, which integrates the
different subjects across the UGA campus. The website is designed to track your progress, watch
pre made videos on the topics, do exercises on based on your interest. Partaking in this new
research, I have realized that the future of technology driven education is improving and it is
created to adapt to student s interest. As Marc Prensky stated, Technology would be introduced
from the start as a thinking extender through tools like simulation that show students the
consequences of their actions in a variety of contexts and circumstances. In addition, the use of
technology has made a great impact on students not only in America but worldwide. The results that
Khan Academy has produced by collaborating with the College Board for SAT studying and videos
is astonishing. The College Board president states, if a student watches videos through Khan
Academy for 20 hours, then, he can score 115 average points higher than the student studying
through the books. With developing technology apps are creating a platform to change the outlook
of education with new and creative projects to help the students,

Papers On Susan B Anthony
Susan B. Anthony
On February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts, a woman by the name of Susan Brownell
Anthony was born to parents Daniel and Lucy (Read) Anthony. She was the second born of a
strongly rooted Quaker family of eight (Hist.Bio. 1). Because they lived in a Quaker neighborhood,
Susan was not heavily exposed to slavery. The family made anti slavery talks an almost daily
conversation over the dinner table. She also saw men and women on the same level (Stoddard 36).
A hard working father, who was not only a cotton manufacturer, but a QuakerAbolitionist also,
prevented his children from what he called childish things such as toys, games and music. He felt

According to author, Hope Stoddard, Susan B. Anthony was a firm, upright person. She wasn t
afraid to show it to anyone and everyone who wanted to know how she felt. One day, during a
marriage custody conference, an abolitionist by the name of Rev. A. D. Mayo asked Anthony, in
modified words, by what means could she take part in discussions on marriage when she was not
married herself. She responded to this by saying, in revised words, that he was not a slave, so
maybe he should not be taking part in discussions on slavery. It was this kind of determination that
led Susan B. Anthony towards gaining women the right to have equal guardianship of their children
(Dorr 55).
In a period of about twenty years, Anthony supported the United States over the
Confederate States of America before and during the civil war. Her reason for taking a side during
the war was not only to see the slaves be free. Anthony wanted to see all men equal. She had a plan
(Hist. Works).
A couple years after the Civil War had ended, African American men were given the right to vote
and the right to attempt to live the American dream. With this information, Anthony took off. She
felt that women should be granted at least the same

Straight Chained Alcohols
Discussion
This experiment set out to investigate the relation between both straight and branch chained
alcohols at various carbon lengths. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol
would produce the highest level of enthalpy. It was thought that branched chained molecules would
have weaker attraction forces due to the fact that they couldn t line up in as a close proximity
compared to straight chained alcohols. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the
branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for
combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). This would then make one assume a smaller rate of
enthalpy compared to straight chained alcohols. However, as seen evidently on the graph, the
branch chained alcohol clearly disproved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further improve this percentage, it is recommended that insulation techniques be carried out on
top of the copper rod conduction method to improve efficiency. Insulation is important as it further
aids in containing the heat produced from combustion. Further allowing more reliable testing.
Testing the enthalpy for control with just an aluminum can using tert butanol produced a low
efficiency of 16%. While testing again with tert butanol with the copper increased the efficiency
by 32.54% above the control. This shows that the insulation/conduction worked. The method of
investigation took into account various variables such as the amount of water, height of retort
stand and so on to further increase the validity of the investigation. The only thing in the method
which would further improve validity would be to create a way in which to stop the flame from
burning right after a five minute testing period per alcohol. This is because valuable grams of
alcohol were burnt whilst the can was lifted out of the shroud, in order to place the cap back

All I m going to say is there is a difference between pro choice and pro abortion. Pro choice is
understanding that you have no control over what another woman does with her body. Pro
choice is understanding that people make their own decisions based on their life. Pro choice is not
necessarily approving of abortion, it s allowing people to make decisions, which is why it s called
pro CHOICE. If you are pro life, you are saying an unborn fetus is equivalent in value as a born
child. If a fire was destroying a building which an unborn fetus and a living baby we re trapped

West Berlin housed one of the Allied settlements, an island surrounded by Soviet controlled
territory. In June 1948, in a bid to control and overthrow the Allied settlement in West Berlin, the
Soviets closed all ground passages to West Berlin, cutting off food and general supplies to the
island region. Allied nations responded by flying food and necessary supplies in via air. This
method proved to be extremely effective, although the settlements in West Berlin were cut off for
nearly a year, daily food and rations fed those who remained. Allied nations realised the
importance and need for more chartered carriers. After the Berlin air lift, the US passed the air
deregulation act in 1978 which led to an open skies policy [Pender, 2001].
It was not until the late 1950 s that the jet aircraft really took off again with the arrival of the

Taking a Look at Refugees
The definition of a refugee is a person who had to leave their country to get away from war,
persecution or natural disasters. They have a fear of persecution for reasons of race, membership,
political opinion, religion or nationality. There are also internally displaced people who are termed
as refugees but are not saved by the legislation protecting refugees because they have not crossed
their country s border.
There are different types of refugees. There are climate refugees who had to leave because of
the severe weather in their area, there are economic refugees who were forced to leave as result
of no jobs or ways to gain income, there are religious refugees who had to flee from there country
because they were persecuted for what they believed in, there are political refugees who had to
leave because of their opinion of the politics in their country. There are war refugees who fled their
country because of the ongoing wars in that country. There are refugees who had to flee from their
country because of too many natural disasters in that country.
There are different factors that will make people flee their countries and become refugees. And
these factors will be according to the type of refugee they are. War refugees: fled because of
continuous war. Economic refugees: fled because of no money or job opportunities. Climate
refugees: fled because of the severe weather and climate change. Religious refugees: fled because
of being persecuted for their religion.

Jacob Riis book How the Other Half Lives is a detailed description on the poor and the destitute
in the inner realms of New York City. Riis tries to portray the living conditions through the В‘eyes

Although he does possess quite a bit of bigotry that boarders on the line of prejudice when it
comes to African Americans he recognizes that they are suffering from racism and he sympathizes
with them. With his sympathy comes an attitude of superiority, he looks down on the people in
poverty because he was once there and knows with hard work, like he has done, you can pull
yourself up by the bootstraps and make something better with your life.
Riis covers many aspects of the poverty that has stricken the tenement lodgers but when talking
about one end of the spectrum (poor) you also need to discuss the other (rich). With out telling
people how the other half of the other half lives he s leaving out a crucial part of how people live

such cramped housing as tenements. When in reality New York was and is presently not composed

The Role Of Music And Spatial Task Performance
The study that will be replicated is the study done by Nantais and Schellenberg (1999), which
was a follow up study for Rauscher s experiment (1993, 1995), who s aim was to conduct a study
in which to test whether music and spatial task performance are casually related. The aim of
Nantais and Schellenberg s study was to replicate and extend the basic findings of Rauscher et al
which were that participants who listened to Mozart before taking a spatial ability test did better
than those who sat in silence, also known as the Mozart effect. Nantais and Schellenberg expected

As predicted, the overall levels of performance were higher in the participants preferred condition.
This is also known as the participants preferred stimulus. The major modification made between
this study and Rauscher s study is that instead of having the participants listen to Mozart and then
sit in silence, Nantais and Schellenberg had the participants listen to Mozart and then a short
story. In relation to Rauscher et al. and Nantais Schellenberg, the researcher s aim of this
experiment is to investigate the impact of acoustic environmental stimuli on performance of
visual spatial tasks. In order to test this, we will have participants first listen to a section of
Mozart music followed by a spatial ability test and then we ll have the participants listen to a short
story also followed by a spatial ability test. The independent variable in this experiment are the
Mozart and short story conditions. The dependent variable was the results of the spatial ability test
for each condition. The independent variable for this experiment is the acoustic environmental

Mozart piece used in this experiment was Mozart s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major K. 448. The

Dna Profiling Essay
Deoxyribonucleic acid profiling also commonly known as DNA is a biotechnological science, a
forensic technique used to identify individuals by using their genetic sequencing, although most
people have the same DNA they have different regions within their sequencing that makes them
individual. Profiling is not only used for fingerprinting it is used to analyse saliva, skin tissue,
blood, hair and semen. The procedure of DNAprofiling is used to identify criminals, disaster victims
and one s pedigrees through paternity tests.
The advantages of DNA profiling is any cell with nuclei can be used for testing. The testing is
severely sensitive so that any difference in the DNA sequence with be easily picked up when the
scientist is taking extra care. DNA is robust and can hold out from deteriorating even when being
contaminated with toxins and or bacteria. Profiling can easily exclude many suspects from a case,
leading crime investigators on to the right track. Leaving out the innocent suspects and giving them
justice. The table below proves that DNA profiling is a major benefit to our worlds justice today....

Analysis Of The Movie Poor Kids
There are millions of people in poverty. People can be very well off and then within a few
months they could become poor. Becoming poor can cause a lot of stress and depression. The
movie Poor Kids displays how being poor can affect kids and their families. In order for one to
better understand how being poor affects the economy, one could view Poor Kids to see
examples of how being poor affects children s activities, children s future jobs, and their health.
When a family is poor, there are not very many activities for the children to partake in. In Poor
Kids, Kaylie Hageman and her siblings spend most of their days trying to make money for the
family. Her family is very poor because her mother can not hold a well enough paying job long
enough to pay their bills. Most days Kaylie s older brother goes around town mowing lawns for
$10 a lawn while Kaylie collects cans to refund. This is very hard on kids since they do not have
enough money to buy items for activities. Instead of playing games, the kids have fun by earning
money which almost all of it goes to the mother to pay off bills. This can lead to stress and
depression, which can affect a childs motivation to make friends or work hard in life. If the child
does not have motivation, they will not acquire the skills necessary to obtain and keep a job that
can help them survive. While children have a hard time in partaking in activities, being poor in
childhood can affect their future lives as well. When

The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure
Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to
capitalization, they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and
avoiding profit manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also
cannot perfectly deal with these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of
technology, especially in high tech industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall
assets, whether the firm is successful or not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore,
simple expensing all R D expenditure is apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors
of expensing R D expenditure is the uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s
SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of
past transactions or other past events. And the asset should be recorded in the statement of
financial position when the expenditure of the asset can be measured reliably and the future
economic benefit generates from the asset is highly likely backflow to the company. However, it
is impossible of a company to accurately measure how possibility of a firm can have future
economic benefit generated by the asset. Moreover, the loose concept of control of an asset that is
the capacity of the entity to benefit from the asset in the pursuit of the entity s objectives and to
deny or regulate the access of others to that benefit. (Walker and

extraordinary ways.
Excel Academically
Teaching your child to read at an early age will not only teach them to love stories, but it also
benefits your child s academic future. Toddlers and preschoolers who begin to read early will
increase their learning aptitude, which will help them excel academically once they start elementary
school.
In addition, if your child learns and loves to read early, this will hopefully carry on into their teen
and adults years.

Botox Injection In Muscles
The main goal for Botox is to block the chemical signals that are sent to cause muscle contraction.
Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this
chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main
goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection
works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The
exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called
neuromuscular junction.
During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section
of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular
junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which
then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. With the neuromuscular
junction it will then get that nerve impulse and transmits a message down the axon to the terminal.
When that happens the terminal opens the calcium channel to allow the calcium to enter and to

The Strategic Aspects Of Globalization And Mergers And...
Globalization can be summarized as process by which the experience of everyday life, marked by
the diffusion of commodities and ideas, is becoming standardized around the world. Factors that

  • 2. Abraham Maslow And The American Psychological Association Abraham Maslow (1908 1970), some time President of the American Psychological Association, is best known for his work on human motivation and in particular for his Hierarchy of Needs, which was first defined in a paper of 1943. Five basic needs are defined, all of which he considered to be hard wired in the human species. They are arranged hierarchically, with self actualization referring to people s desire for self fulfillment, namely, the tendency for them to become actualized in what they are potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one idiosyncratically is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming (Maslow, 1943, p.22). Maslow s 1943 paper mentions cognitive needs such as the desire to know and to understand, and also aesthetics, but does not place them within the hierarchy of five. In other words Maslow recognized, even at this early stage, that his list was incomplete. In spite of this reservation it has been widely reproduced as a complete theory, on the way acquiring its own pictorial representation in the form of a triangle or pyramid, which is reproduced in countless publications. Because the five needs are latently or actively present in all members of the human species, they are described as being biologically rooted . This is a key theme throughout Maslow s work. He is dealing with the characteristics of a particular species, some of which may be shared with other species, but nevertheless he avoids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Agency And Autonomy In Children s Literature Agency and Autonomy in Children s Literature One of the themes that characterize children s literature is the question of agency. Agency in children s literature allows the child reader to experience a degree of autonomy in the imagined world, which the child does not possess in a world governed by adult rules and authority. However, a close reading of Milne s Winnie the Pooh and Collins The Hunger Games demonstrates that children have more power and agency than they believe they do. Although children s worlds are controlled by various restrictions, children possess the power of imagination, the ability to create their own worlds, and that is their source of autonomy and agency. As they grow older, they gradually start losing that agency as they enter into the adult world, a world governed by a different kind of obedience. Winnie the Pooh is a series of short stories read to Christopher Robin. What makes these stories unique is that Christopher Robin is both a character in the story and a reader. He participates in the story telling; he gets to control parts of the narratives his father reads to him. The introduction sets the stage for the rest of the stories; Milne starts by introducing Pooh,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when Pooh asks Christopher Robin for a balloon to get honey, he says, But you don t get honey with balloons! When Pooh replies with I do (Milne 12), Christopher Robin does not argue with him; he actually accepts it and offers him the balloons he has. This acceptance highlights that Pooh is allowed to think for himself, imagine, and create his own reality even when it does not make sense. The emphasis on the I by Pooh also suggests the degree of autonomy he possesses; it does not matter if someone else believes it is wrong as long as he believes in it and accepts ... • 4. The Superhero Of Aqua Man The superhero that I have chosen is Aqua man I have chosen this superhero as it is something different, unique and at the same time challenging. Aqua man has been an icon for over seventy years. He is the king of seven seas and the reluctant ruler of Atlantis. Atlantis is the name of a continent located in the North Atlantic Ocean and represents one of the earliest and most highly advanced cultural societies on Earth. Aqua man holds his own against heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman. Aqua man cast out from Atlantis as a baby, he grew up on land thinking that he was a normal human being. However, after he started getting older and older and started becoming mature, Atlantis returned clamming aqua man as their rightful king. Caught... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason we cannot breathe liquid water is because the oxygen we use to make the water is guaranteed to two hydrogen atoms, and we cannot breathe the resultant liquid. The oxygen is unusable to our lungs in this form. Humans cannot breathe because our lungs do not have enough surface area to absorb enough oxygen form water, and the coating in our lungs is modified to handle air rather than water. There have been experiments with humans breathing other liquids like fluorocarbons. A fluorocarbon is a compound formed by replacing one or more of the hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon with fluorine atoms. Fluorocarbons can dissolve enough oxygen and our lungs can draw the oxygen out. Fish breathe oxygen dissolved in water with the help of their gills. Fish have gills and why this works is because fishes are cold blooded and this reduces oxygen loads. Warm blooded animals like whales breathe air just as we humans do, as it is hard to extract enough oxygen using their gills. The organelles that have been put into Aqua man from the human cell are Nucleus, Nucleolus, Ribosome, Mitochondria, Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum, Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum, Cytoplasm, Lysosome, and Cell Membrane. Each of these have their own function and are part of different sections of the cell. The Nucleus is Master control of the cell. • 5. Texas Supreme Court Case Analysis Texas consists of three branches of government; the executive, legislative, and judicial branch. Texas government is modeled very similarly to The United States three branches. Specifically within the judicial branch, there is a Supreme Court, which is the highest federal court of The United States [National]. There is also a Supreme Court in Texas; which is the highest court in the state. A 5 4 decision by The United StatesSupreme Court on June 26th, 2015 ended all state bans on same sex marriage and requires all fifty states to recognize marriages legally performed in other states. Immediately after this historic decision was made, in disobedience of the Supreme Court, Texas attorney general said, that county clerks can refuse to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples if they object on religious grounds. This was Texas initial reaction to the ruling. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a presidential contender, said he was disappointed with the ruling and as president, I would appoint strict constitutional conservatives who will apply the law as written. The issue here is that states such as Texas feel as if The Supreme court has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His residence near the primary British Army base in Northwest India....enhanced his already intense admiration for the martial life (Matin 359). Events in the novel are manipulated to formulate Kipling s dream of dominated India. Being a product of his time, Kipling believes that the British empire has an obligation to bring enlightenment to inferior races and underdeveloped countries. His idea of the best way to rule the native India is expressed by creating Kim who is born in the country, resulting in Kim s appreciation and favor of the Indian culture. Kipling constructs the native India consists of salvage people who are waiting to be civilized by British and limited by their races no matter how much they contribute to the imperialist system. He has people positively speak on empire s behalf and recognize the work of British men. • 7. Heroism As A Hero As Mahatma Gandhi once said Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will. Heroes don t always have to be on the big screen like in movies or shows. Being a hero involves wanting to do good in life and reaching goals. For this is the way true heroes are brought to light. Heroism involves the act of sacrificing for the good of others and being courageous but, it does not always lead to a great success in the end. Heroes sacrificethemselves to help benefit others and to follow through achievements. Like during the hard times of 9/11, a man named Vincent Ardolino sacrificed himself in order to save the people of his community. While he was rescuing, he said Take me now, leave them here. This shows that he was willing to stand up, work through challenges, and sacrifice himself which is what a true herowould do. Another man named Captain Vikram Batraalso sacrificed himself to help his fellow companions. While he and his crew were climbing up a mountain to reach their enemies during war, he got injured. Even though he got hurt, this did not hold Batra back from saving his officer who was severely injured too. Another man of his crew attempted to save the officer but Batra did not allow since he could ve gotten really hurt. Then he saved his officer but ended up dead. Happiness can be defined in a plethora of ways such as good fortune, a state of well being, or a pleasurable, satisfying experience. William Thackeray s Rebecca Sharp stated in the novel Vanity Fair that she could be a good woman if she had five thousand pounds and she could dawdle about in the nursery and count the apricots on the wall (VF 414). Right from the beginning we understand that Mrs. Bennet s motive is to marry off her 5 daughters(Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia) to eligible suitors, particularly Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bennet, being a mixture of quick parts (7), is impartial to this and would rather not visit Mr. Bingley as Mrs. Bennet alludes that it is customary for the father to visit any potential suitor before the mother does. With this argument, we see that Mrs. Bennet s happiness is directly linked to the well being of her daughters. We also see that Mr. and Mrs. Bennet s views of what s right for their daughters are very different from each other with Mrs. Bennet doing whatever it takes to ensure the happiness of her daughters while Mr. Bennet is not so proactive in this endeavor. As the main protagonist of Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet s views on happiness are very much so connected to her sense of pride. Mary Bennet, one of the younger Bennet sisters, states that A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves (PP 21). Throughout the novel we see that Elizabeth sees herself as a headstrong and sensible woman; one who would never fall to the fallible feelings caused by love and society. While I believe that both sides of this argument are true in the sense that Jewish Resistance was widespread, but there were no connecting pieces in order to make Jewish Resistance affective enough to stop the holocaustfrom occurring. In order to even begin to argue if Jewish resistance was effective or not we have to first know what the actual meaning of resistance is. Jews had to main forms of resistance, one was known as spiritual resistance while the other was a more common form of resistance known as armed resistance. One is when you take up weaponry and manpower in order to stop your oppressors, in this case the Nazis from achieving their goal of exterminating the Jewish population as a whole. On the other hand, you have spiritual resistance which were ways of trying to keep Jewish life normal under the Nazi Regime which were things like continuing to educate the youth and still engaging in Jewish religious practices even though they had been made unlawful under Nazi rule. Characteristics Of Aspirin SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPIRIN ACETYLSALCYLIC ACID Summary: The lab experiment was divided into parts and the synthesis of the aspirin occurred during the first week. Using 4.032g of salicylic acid 8.0mL of acetic anhydride on a hot bath the reaction was speeded up by the use of a catalyst phosphoric acid. Once the sample was then left to dry in the drawer for a week using the melting point apparatus we conducted the purity assessment of the dried sample. Introduction: Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is a commonly known drug used to treat fever, pain and inflammation, aspirin can also be purchased over the counter medication or by prescription from a doctor. The synthesis of aspirin occurs by combining acetic anhydride and salicylic acid, salicylic acid is a naturally occurring product that can be found in the bark of a willow tree1. Since it is highly acidic and salicylic acid would potentially damage the gastric membrane hence the addition of the acetic anhydride. C7H6O3+ C4H6O3 C9H8O4 +C2H4O2 A few drops of phosphoric acid are added to the reaction, phosphoric acid acts as a catalyst so as to speed up the rate of the reaction. The use of the acetic anhydride cautions us to prematurely use any water so as to prevent any hydrolysis of the acetic anhydride from occurring. • 27. Straight Chained Alcohols Discussion This experiment set out to investigate the relation between both straight and branch chained alcohols at various carbon lengths. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol would produce the highest level of enthalpy. It was thought that branched chained molecules would have weaker attraction forces due to the fact that they couldn t line up in as a close proximity compared to straight chained alcohols. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). This would then make one assume a smaller rate of enthalpy compared to straight chained alcohols. However, as seen evidently on the graph, the branch chained alcohol clearly disproved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further improve this percentage, it is recommended that insulation techniques be carried out on top of the copper rod conduction method to improve efficiency. Insulation is important as it further aids in containing the heat produced from combustion. Further allowing more reliable testing. Testing the enthalpy for control with just an aluminum can using tert butanol produced a low efficiency of 16%. While testing again with tert butanol with the copper increased the efficiency by 32.54% above the control. This shows that the insulation/conduction worked. The method of investigation took into account various variables such as the amount of water, height of retort stand and so on to further increase the validity of the investigation. The only thing in the method which would further improve validity would be to create a way in which to stop the flame from burning right after a five minute testing period per alcohol. This is because valuable grams of alcohol were burnt whilst the can was lifted out of the shroud, in order to place the cap back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pro choice is understanding that you have no control over what another woman does with her body. Pro choice is understanding that people make their own decisions based on their life. Pro choice is not necessarily approving of abortion, it s allowing people to make decisions, which is why it s called pro CHOICE. If you are pro life, you are saying an unborn fetus is equivalent in value as a born child. If a fire was destroying a building which an unborn fetus and a living baby we re trapped inside, and you could only save one, which one would you choose? In June 1948, in a bid to control and overthrow the Allied settlement in West Berlin, the Soviets closed all ground passages to West Berlin, cutting off food and general supplies to the island region. Allied nations responded by flying food and necessary supplies in via air. This method proved to be extremely effective, although the settlements in West Berlin were cut off for nearly a year, daily food and rations fed those who remained. Allied nations realised the importance and need for more chartered carriers. After the Berlin air lift, the US passed the air deregulation act in 1978 which led to an open skies policy [Pender, 2001]. It was not until the late 1950 s that the jet aircraft really took off again with the arrival of the Boeing 707 and the McDonnell Douglas DC 8, both proving to be hugely successful and the 707 still remains in service today. Dna Profiling Essay Deoxyribonucleic acid profiling also commonly known as DNA is a biotechnological science, a forensic technique used to identify individuals by using their genetic sequencing, although most people have the same DNA they have different regions within their sequencing that makes them individual. Profiling is not only used for fingerprinting it is used to analyse saliva, skin tissue, blood, hair and semen. The procedure of DNAprofiling is used to identify criminals, disaster victims and one s pedigrees through paternity tests. The advantages of DNA profiling is any cell with nuclei can be used for testing. The testing is severely sensitive so that any difference in the DNA sequence with be easily picked up when the scientist is taking extra care. DNA is robust and can hold out from deteriorating even when being contaminated with toxins and or bacteria. Becoming poor can cause a lot of stress and depression. The movie Poor Kids displays how being poor can affect kids and their families. In order for one to better understand how being poor affects the economy, one could view Poor Kids to see examples of how being poor affects children s activities, children s future jobs, and their health. When a family is poor, there are not very many activities for the children to partake in. In Poor Kids, Kaylie Hageman and her siblings spend most of their days trying to make money for the family. Her family is very poor because her mother can not hold a well enough paying job long enough to pay their bills. Most days Kaylie s older brother goes around town mowing lawns for $10 a lawn while Kaylie collects cans to refund. This is very hard on kids since they do not have enough money to buy items for activities. Instead of playing games, the kids have fun by earning money which almost all of it goes to the mother to pay off bills. This can lead to stress and depression, which can affect a childs motivation to make friends or work hard in life. If the child does not have motivation, they will not acquire the skills necessary to obtain and keep a job that can help them survive. While children have a hard time in partaking in activities, being poor in childhood can affect their future lives as well. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to capitalization, they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and avoiding profit manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also cannot perfectly deal with these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of technology, especially in high tech industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall assets, whether the firm is successful or not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore, simple expensing all R D expenditure is apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors of expensing R D expenditure is the uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of past transactions or other past events. And the asset should be recorded in the statement of financial position when the expenditure of the asset can be measured reliably and the future economic benefit generates from the asset is highly likely backflow to the company. However, it is impossible of a company to accurately measure how possibility of a firm can have future economic benefit generated by the asset. • 41. Botox Injection In Muscles The main goal for Botox is to block the chemical signals that are sent to cause muscle contraction. Botox is injected in small doses into targeted muscles where there are unwanted wrinkles. With this chemical block the muscles can no longer tighten and skin will flattens. This will give the main goal of having less wrinkled and smoother appearance that some people desire. Botox injection works by weakening or paralyzing certain targeted muscles and nerves in the area affected. The exact area that the Botox paralyzes is right at the begging of muscle contraction called neuromuscular junction. During regular muscle contraction there are a series of steps that go along with it. The first section of a series of step for muscle contraction, and where Botox is targeting, is called the neuromuscular junction. The signal will start from being collected in the dendrites down to the cell body, which then sends the message down the hillock passing through the axon. With the neuromuscular junction it will then get that nerve impulse and transmits a message down the axon to the terminal.
