Dr. Seuss Short Biography
Dr. Seuss was an amazing author and illustrator. He was also so much more. Dr. Seuss was born
March 2, 1904 in Springfield, MA. His parents named him Theodor Seuss Giesel. His mother s name
was Henrietta Seuss Giesel. His father s name was Theodor Rober Giesel. Dr. Seuss had one sibling,
who was a sister. His sister s name was Marnie Giesel.
Growing Up with Friends and Family Dr. Seuss spent his childhood growing up in Springfield, MA.
He spent most of his childhood at Springfield Park, where families can fish, picnic, and play in the

Seuss finished Horton Hatches an Egg, Benet Cerf contacted Dr. Seuss to publish it. Cerf had heard of
Dr. Seuss, but had never seen him as a real person. After he saw Dr. Seuss s other work, he fell
immediately in love with it. After it was published, it was an immediate success. At age 36, he
definitely knew this is what he wanted to do. New York Times said, It s hilarious, and very unique. Dr.
Seuss had so much money he and Helen went to California for a vacation. They ended up buying a
two acre hillside lot with a wonderful ocean view. The lot overlooked La Jallo Beach and a tennis
club. They were going to build a small ranch house but it would have cost way too much. He then
went back to work. After 9 years of marriage, Dr. Seuss and Helen had already traveled in Europe, the
Middle East, Latin America and many others. This was all possible because they had no responsibility.
At one point, he was traveling on a boat and working. He had to stop because a huge summer storm
hit. Cerf was willing to pay for Dr. Seuss to come back to New York. Dr. Seuss took that opportunity
and went back to New York. Cerf convinced Dr. Seuss to make an adult book which wasn t too hard.
The book was called The Seven Lady s of Godiva. This was published in 1939. It was sold for 25
cents a book, but it sold out and the profits for Dr. Seuss were $100.88. That was a lot back

Identity In The Kite Runner
Afghanistan is a multi ethnic country and it foregrounds its belief and tradition based on kinship and

Alexander the Great
Alexander was born around 356 B.C. His mother was of royal lineage, as was his father, Philip II.
When Alexander was fourteen, he studied under the Athenian philosopher, Aristotle. Perhaps no
culture has ever produced a greater mind than Aristotle s. So searching and profound was Aristotle s
work that in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries A.D. much of the Christian church regarded his
teachings as being divinely inspired. No subject was untouched by his contemplation. Philosophy,
botany, geography, zoology, astronomy, and art were all subjects of deep concern for him. Aristotle
was the student of Plato and the teacher of Alexander the Great. Either role would have earned him an
important place in history. Most likely Aristotle instructed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Persian advance guard, lightly armed and unaccustomed to Macedonian tactics, was
overwhelmed. Alexander had planned only to free the Greek cities then under Persian control, but
resounding victory spurred him to strike at the heart of the empire itself. This was no madcap venture.
Darius III, the Persian king, was a poor leader and his provincial officials were unreliable. The
unwieldy empire was ready to fall in pieces. The victory at the Granicus River quickly opened the
towns of Sardis, Ephesus, and Miletus to Alexander s conquest. Miletus was the traditional birthplace
of Hellenic philosophy; Sardis and Ephesus would play significant roles in the New Testament church.
(Packer) In the next year, Alexander moved on Gordium, the capital of Phrygia. The goal of this
offensive was the Cilician Gates, a narrow mountain pass to Syria and Palestine. Moving through the
pass, Alexander advanced onto a plain near the village of Sollioi. The leader of Darius Greek
mercenaries advised the Persian king to keep his forces on the open plain. But Darius established a
defensive position on the Pniaurus River. Here would be the first encounter between the Macedonians
and the Persian royal units. The phalanxes of the Macedonians again proved too powerful for the
Persian army. Darius swiftly retreated, relinquishing Asia Minor to the Macedonian

Grendel s Claw In Beowulf Essay
What did Grendel s claw serve as a symbol for ?
In Beowulf, Beowulf had ripped Grendel s arm off by hand ; Beowulf had the grip of thirty men when
all swords was useless against Grendel he ripped Grendel s arm off. The purpose of ripping Grendel s
arm off was because Grendel had attacked Heorot after King Hrothgar left Beowulf in charge. This
was the first time King Hrothgar let anyone in charge of Heorot Hall and Beowulf wanted to make
sure that he do his duty good. So as Beowulf and the Geats lie down to sleep waiting for Grendel s
attack everyone is expecting to die. Beowulf decided to fight Grendel with his bare hands since
Grendel does not use weapons to fight. Then comes Grendel with the attack and he raised his arm for
the attack but before he does anything Beowulf grabs his arm which made Grendel panic because he
never met anyone stronger than him, which led to them wrestling and destroying furniture and all.

she loved. It shows her how sickening that human beings are and she eventually retrieved her revenge
by killing innocent people. Grendel s mother saw the claw as a symbol of the loss of her son, she was
filled with grief and rage which caused her to go and retrieve her son s arm from Heorot. Then that is
when she had started to kill innocent people for revenge for the death of her son. Beowulf decides to
track down Grendel s mother and as he track her down he ends up in her underwater cave. Grendel
honestly at this point is not paying the claw any mind as he takes notice of Grendel s head which he
seems to find more impressive. Beowulf also ignores the treasure and chooses to take Grendel s huge

Textual Analysis Of Pocahontas

Midterm #2 Part 1
The Disney movie Pocahontas was released in 1995 and was directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric
Goldberg. The film depicts the life of a young Native American woman known as Pocahontas and the
hardships she comes to face as she develops a relationship with an English settler whose original plan
was to take stronghold of their land. Pocahontas utilizes the dramatic progression of exposition,
complication/rising, action and resolution. In addition, the film is organized in a series of cuts and
angles to develop an aesthetically pleasing movie.
Pocahontas introduces crucial background information such as the different settings, characters, etc.
This is primarily done through the use of dialogue. An example of this would be the lyrics of the song
in the beginning of the film, which states, For the new world is like Heaven, and we ll all be rich and
free, or so we have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this scene, the directors utilized a panoramic style camera angle, where the camera rotates
horizontally across Virginia. The use of a panorama displays the vastness of the undiscovered and
untainted land before the invasion of the English settlers. In addition, panning creates a smooth
transition between the different cuts in the movie. It creates a match cut, where two similar shots are
joined together, making the transition hidden from the viewers.
In addition, the directors also include an aerial view camera angle in this scene, which gives the
impression of a bird flying above the vast landscape. In contrast to the panorama, this camera angle
provides a greater distance between the land and the camera while the panorama was much closer.
Instead of seeing just the crops and the trunks of the trees, the aerial perspective allows the viewer to
see the entire farmland as well as the entirety of the trees and flowing

Sophocles Oedipus The King
Through the interactive oral presentations, our class learned about the Greek religion and culture
surrounding the life of Sophocles when he wrote Oedipus The King. Before the interactive oral
assignments were presented, I understood the themes of hubris and sight on a low level. The
interactive oral presentations really strengthened my understanding of why Sophocles used these
themes in his story about a king who falls from power. Now I know that hubris was a hated
characteristic in this time period and that is why Sophocles wanted to demonstrate how bad it was to
his audience.
The interactive oral presentations also taught me about other Greek myths, festivals, history, and even
the setup of their stages. This deeper understanding of the

My Learner s Academic Development On Their Past Work And...
I am basing my descriptions of my Average Learner s academic development on their past work and
observations. They can read and understand simple texts. In fact, the history textbook for this class is
within their reading level and so they can read and understood information therein. In addition, they
can listen and follow verbal instructions. For them, I do not have to repeat nor display my instruction
on the whiteboard nor through PowerPoint slides, but I do sometimes have to speak slower to assure
they can hear what I say. They can write simple and complex sentences, with a high degree of clarity.
(I will provide further information about this when I describe their language development later in this
paper). Collectively, they can collaborate in groups, preferably of no more than three students in a
group, because anything more is not conducive to learning. The reason they work well together
because most know each other from being in the same classes last year and the on the same sport team
this class has many baseball players. Insofar, this has proven to be advantageous, by having them in
groups, and I could not be more satisfied with the results.
However, they are not perfect students. They have gaps in their speculative developments. One of
them is, comprehending primary sources. They are still learning to comprehend primary document
texts. For example, in the past, I had tried using length, a page long or more, and unedited primary
documents. I had used George

Analysis Of The Movie Phoenix Jackson
When using symbolism, objects or even people can be used to represent your answer or explanation.
For example, Uncle Sam (U.S) was a symbol for the United States when they were going to war, and
they put up the famous poster of Uncle Sam pointing his finger at you with the slogan on the bottom
of the poster that says I want you! Food can also be used as a symbol. For example, fried chicken, hot
dogs, and hamburgers are foods commonly consumed in America, while in other countries, they
probably haven t even heard about hamburgers, because we are all accustomed to what we eat.
In the beginning of the short story, Phoenix Jackson is introduced as an elderly woman making her
way in the woods talking to herself and saying no one is going to stop her from making her journey.
First, she gets stuck in a thorn bush, but gets out of it. Then she has to cross a creek on a log, but
because of her age, something bad could happen, so she closed her eyes and crossed. She sat near a
tree to rest, and began to daydream of a little boy giving her a slice of marble cake, which she gladly
accepts, but when she tried to take it, she was just waving her hand in the air. She sees a Scarecrow,
who she mistakenly takes it as a man, and then a ghost, and starts to dance with it. She keeps walking,
when a black dog came at her a little and knocked her over, and fell into a ditch. A white man sees her

22 Cheers Play
22 STEPS is a dramatic thriller driven by strong themes of survival and perseverance. The idea of
friends coming together to save another friend is well appreciated. The goal is clear and the stakes are
high.
The story has a defined three act structure and the script is goal focused. The script is easy to read.
While solid themes drive the script, the script would benefit from more development. The areas that
are worth discussing include the structure, the tension, tone, believability, and character development,
including dialogue.
The script is structured around the idea of the friends watching a play that dramatizes their real life

Also, understanding more of their relationship with Aria will help. Maybe one of them doesn t like

Comparing Poems My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
TITLE
Robert Browning s poems, My Last Duchess ( MLD ) and Porphyria s Lover ( PL ) take the form of
dramatic monologues and are striking examples of literature written in the Victorian era. Due to their
form, a great interaction is developed between the reader and narrator, with an additional oratory
effect; this allows the audience to understand a situation less ambiguously through features such as
tone. Therefore, Browning is able to present male and female characters more completely.
Furthermore, the poems accurately convey gender inequality present in Victorian society, hinting at
the lack of liberties given to women.
In MLD, Browning employs the Duke as narrator, developing the reader s perception of his
personality through use of language and literary devices. As a result, the Duke inadvertently portrays
himself as egocentric, proprietorial and at times arrogant, psychotic and paranoid. He refers to the
painting of his late wife as my last Duchess , with the possessive pronoun my indicating the Duchess
is just another of his possessions. This element of the Duke s ... Show more content on

Therefore, bias may be introduced as the narrator would not portray himself with negative facets.
Consequently, the reliability of the narrator becomes questionable. This is amplified in MLD, where
the Duke s proud nature possibly hinders the truth. In PL, Browning repetitively attempts to depict
Porphyria s lover as innocent, while in reality the murder was manic and psychotic. As a result,
uncertainty is created throughout PL, as such a narrator may be deceptive. So, the reader s perception
of Porphyria s lover might be incorrect, especially during his period of euphoria when Porphyria
appears to give herself up to him. This unreliability acts as another way for Browning to portray the
male characters, as a misleading narrator will introduce a whole range of negative

Civil Government, By Henry David Thoreau
Citizen Obligation to Government The establishment of the United States of America s government
was of the people, by the people, for the people. In Resistance to Civil Government, Henry David
Thoreau through the supplementing of rhetoric devices perfectly argues the ineffectiveness of the
government. In addition to outlining the hypocrisy and corruption , Thoreau courageously dots the
short comings, responsibilities, as well as, expanding on effective and deliberate initiatives citizens
must initiate to implement a more stable and trustworthy government.
To start his argument, Thoreau explains the initial duties of the government permitted as a society.
From the start, the government was only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will
is (said to be) equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it for it has
become run by a few individuals using it (the standing government) as their tool (Thoreau 843).
Thoreau, through the use of special diction such as inexpedient and chosen, explains the
ineffectiveness of the government, due to the fact that the will of the people no longer the main focus
of the government. In the point of view of Thoreau, it will greatly benefit the people to never allow
this government, run by few, to itself further any enterprise (Thoreau 843). Society as a whole must
reject any legislation founded on the benefit of the government alone. Thoreau uses anaphor as he list

African countries and cultures, yet doctors are faced with an issue of illegality and immorality when
African immigrants want these procedures performed here in the US.
Ever since the beginning of religion, Jews, Muslims, and Christians have practiced male circumcision.
This practice was scene as both sanitary, holy, and if done properly, harmless. This practice became so
popular that civilization has carried out into current time, in which male circumcision still serves as a
very popular procedure today. However what most Americans don t know is that this procedure isn t

They believe it is a time to celebrate. They feel that a FGM will bring fertility, prevent diseases, and
bring a good husband. Some people think as ridiculously as that, a man will die if he touches a clitoris,
a baby will die if its head touches it, or the clitoris will grow into a penis if left untouched.
There are many complications that girls go through because of these procedures. Since the countries in
Africa are so poor, people cannot afford sanitary hospitalization for their practices. Many times an
FGM will be performed with broken glass, or scissors. Their ridiculous beliefs cross an even more
extreme line when they spread raw egg on the female, or animal excrement because they believe it
will help stop the bleeding.
There are very many complications a woman goes through because of these practices. Girls can often
go into shock, have unstoppable bleeding and very many various diseases of the lower region. HIV/
Aids is also often times possible and sometimes even immediate death. Even if women don t have
immediate complications, they will in the future. Many FGMs will result in tearing, which makes it
more likely to receive HIV.
Not only is this process dangerous to one s health, but also it is also demeaning, since it is completely
disregarding a woman as a sexual being. It a major sexual sensation spot, where as on a male penis, no
sexual sensation is removed, in an FGM, it is completely destroyed.

basement. There he put a noose around her neck and hanged her from a pipe, leaving her partially
undressed. He masturbated on her bare legs, leaving semen behind. After cleaning up the house a little
bit he took the family s car and drove it to a nearby supermarket. What Rader didn t know is that the
Oteros had three older children, who had already left the house that morning. Charlie, Daniel and
Carmen were the ones that found their parents dead that afternoon. Rader s next victim was Kathryn
Bright. He broke into her home and hid in the bedroom waiting for her to return home. Again
something went wrong for Rader, and Bright returned home, accompanied by her younger brother
Kevin. He surprised them and using his gun he forced Kevin to tie up his sister. Then he took Kevin in
another room, trying to tie him up with material found in the home. Kevin got loose and Rader shot
him twice in the head. Thinking Kevin was dead, Rader went on to work on Kathryn. She resisted
heavily and instead of strangling her, he ended up stabbing her multiple times. During that time Kevin,
who wasn t dead, fled the house and called for help. Rader was forced to leave the scene quickly, ran
to his car, and drove off. Kathryn died in the

Zechariah 1-2 Study Guide
Kevin Alves Stone. OT302. Zechariah 1 5. Guided Essay.
What did you learn about the character or nature of God?
Zechariah: 1 5 the Lord will destroy the enemy of Israel. Those who are opposed to Israel are always
opposed to God. Israel is considered the church, so that means God is opposed to those who are
opposed to the church. God loves Israel the physical and spiritual Israel. God will always fight for her.
When God stretches out His hand and shakes the nations, it is in the utmost wrath. The only time that
the worldly people will serve the people of God, is when Jesus reigns as King, and His people as His
subordinates. God had saved Israel from out of the fire of captivity in Babylon. Satan tries to remind
God of the sins. Jesus paid

Biometric Security Technology Essay
Biometric Security Technology
You have seen biometric technology in the films Mission: Impossible and Gattaca. The technology has
also graced the covers of many weekly news magazines. But many people, even though the
technology has been widely talked about for the last half decade, are still surprisingly unaware of what
biometrics are and why the technology is so important for computer security and personal
identification.
Biometrics are automated methods of recognizing a person based on a physical or behavioral
characteristic (2001). Essentially, biometric security technologies are used to accurately identify
individuals on a unique trait. The most common biometric security techniques used currently are:

How Biometric Security Technology Works One of the most important ways that biometric
technology is impacting security lies within the confines of computer information systems. The
government, the military, and large corporations need to have complete assurance that the data and
information stored on their networks and databases are only available to users who have been
authorized to view such material.
Biometric technology offers an alternative to the most used system currently in place in most
operations: passwords or personal identification numbers (PIN). Instead of users inputting their
password or PIN, users interact with a computer terminal that will scan their finger, face, voice, retina,
etc. to identify them. Many of the next generation personal computer systems will have integrated
biometric technology so that no external hardware is needed. In the mean time, users can buy small
peripherals, like a mouse with integrated biometric technology or a small finger terminal for finger
scans, to secure their personal computers.
Advantages of Biometric Security Technology Improved accuracy and improved convenience are two
of the biggest benefits of biometric technology for personal identification. First, unlike passwords or
PIN numbers, which can be used by anyone who knows the required information, biometrics looks at

The Emergence Of Market Society
The whole society has become a market. Societies used to consist of people that were governed by
certain ideologies, laws, and practices. Being driven by capitalism, society has developed everything
into a commodity, in which we now call a market society. Other socio economic communities
historically had concepts that were different from what is predominated in our present society. The
emergence of market society establishes the great transformation from a traditional society to a market
economy that has greatly impacted societal workplaces, and beliefs around ideological conditions. The
emergence of market society starts with the self regulating system called the market economy
(Polanyi, 1957, P. 68). Self regulation indicates that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the Industrial Revolution lead to the great transformation of the market society. The
economy grew and people used labour as commodity that endures the greatest societal consequence.
Since the market relied on this commodity, human rights were at a disadvantage to the economy.
There is no such thing as a self regulating market because people believe that the economy can build a
system based on false commodities (Polanyi, 1957, P. 75). Society faces an economic problem that
provides for the material well being of the society, meaning we produce and exchange the basic
necessities in order to survive. If mankind does not live by bread alone, it is obvious that it cannot live
without bread (Heilbroner, P. 1). The economic problem arises because human nature struggles for
existence which is derived from scarcity (Heilbroner, 1993, P. 4). This problem presents itself
critically and uniquely as it is shown through economic history that people struggle for survival.
Society has to organize a system of providing enough production for everyone and being able to
distribute them properly. Other than market society, there are two other overarching systems found in
other societies, tradition and command. For a traditional economy, production and distribution are
constructed by procedures designed

The Legacy of Queen Victoria s Children Essay
Queen Victoria Prince Albert were born May 24, 1819 and August 26, 1819. Prince Albert was Queen
Victoria s husband. Albert was devoted to helping his wife serve as monarch and over time he became
an essential aid to the queen that advised her on political and diplomatic affairs. Their marriage was
very happy and they loved each other and being together. They were portrayed as an ideal family.
Albert tragically died in 1861, at the age of 42. For many years after his death Victoria lived in
isolation, and eventually appeared more in public, but continued to wear black, mourning his death for
the rest of her life. Queen Victoria died many years later on January 22, 1901. Victoria Adelaide Mary
Louise, Princess Royal was their first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Ernest Albert was born on August 6, 1844. He had a successful career in the Navy, rising
eventually to be Admiral of the Fleet. Alfred married Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia
and they had six children. When his uncle Ernst died, he became Duke of Saxe Coburg and Gotha. He
lived his last years unhappily missing life at sea and increasing marital difficulties along with the
death of his only son. He died July 30, 1900. Helena Augusta Victoria was born on May 25, 1846. She
married Prince Christian of Schleswig Holstein having a relatively happy marriage until Christian s
death is 1917. She had six children, two who died in infancy. Her four surviving children were her two
sons Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig Holstein, Albert, Duke of Schleswig Holstein, her two
daughters Princess Helena Victoria of Schleswig Holstein, and Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig
Holstein. She died on 9 June 1923. Louise Caroline Alberta was born on March 18, 1848. She married
John Campbell, Lord Lorne and later 9th Duke of Argyll. She was the first female sculptor to have a
statue erected in a public place. Louise s marriage to John Campbell was not always a happy alliance
and it has been suggested that he had homosexual leanings. Louise was unable to have children and
was the only one of Victoria and Albert s children to not become a parent. She died on December 3,
1939 and was cremated. Arthur

Analysis Of Death On The Pale Horse
This paper is going to analyze the context within which the work of art, Death on the Pale Horse was
created. In addition, the paper will also discuss the medium that the artist selected and highlight a
number of the other fascinating aspects of this Benjamin West painting.
Benjamin West first displayed his work of art in 1784 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, in
conjunction with three different works that he had planned to paint. The artist used oil on canvas as his
final medium and the painting measures twenty three by fifty inches. It is signed within the lower right
corner B. West 1796 and is now displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Historians don t seem to be
certain whether or not the creator was in need of cash and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style that West used is described best through his choice of colors that are very warm, and thus, in
all probability influenced other painters who were part of the Romantic era of the Nineteenth Century.
What is distinctive regarding this specific painting is that it merges art with recreation. The theme is
deep as a result of the many things that are happening within the background and the foreground. As
an example, there are bodies with garments ripped of from the battle and a fallen horse at the front
center of the painting; however, the background also contains many winged demons and murderers
who ride in from some distant place.
As for the forms within the painting, they are realistic, and never flat. The horses are spherical and
appear to be very strong; the lion s claws are immense and tear blood from the flesh of the person the
lion attacks. The forms are well accomplished and reinforce the drama of the scene, which the artist
meant to depict. All of the shapes are meant to be full to provide weight and seriousness to the piece.
None of the forms are lightweight or ethereal, even the clouds are giant and full. Most of the figures
have significant shadowing and strips of highlight to deepen the distinction between the dark and
lightweight colors.
With reference to the lines within the painting, every figure within the painting, including all of the
ghosts that float in from heaven, are well carved. The lines are harsh

Good And Evil In The Film The Exorcist
In the bluntest way you can say that the 1973 film The Exorcist is about a little girl,Regan who
becomes possessed by a demon and is then freed from the demon through an exorcism done by two
priests. But to go beyond plot summary and see what the movie really has to say or what the point of it
all is, you have to dig deeper. According to the director William Friedkin the film is really about, the
constant struggle within all of us ... of goodness and evil . In order to understand this battle it is
necessary to indicate what in this film constitutes good ; what constitutes evil ; and maybe the most
import which side wins? The force of good is represented through god, the church, and the agents of
the church ,but how did these figures representing good stand up against the evil of the demon? To be
fair, neither the priests or Regan are the true warriors in this battle between good and evil. The

The demon plans to prey on anyone he can get his claws on.Regan may be the one that the demon
possessed, but she was not the only one it has wicked plans for. During the exorcism, Father Karras
asks Father Merrin: Why this girl? It doesn t make sense. Father Merrin answers, I think the point is to
make us despair. To see ourselves as animal and ugly. To reject the possibility that God could love us.
In this sense, the priests are just as much a target as the little girl. This is even clearer in the
conversation that the demon and Karras had earlier in the film. What an excellent day for an exorcism,
the demon commented to him. You would like that? Karras asked. Intensely, the demon answered. But
wouldn t that drive you out of Regan? Karras pressed. The demon answered that it would bring them
together. You and Regan? Karras asked. You and us, the demon answered and It was quite correct. It is
implied in the film that Father Merrin has exorcised the demon that was in Regan before, from another

Interviewing a Friend
Humans are complex and intricate beings. They think, behave and look different. They are different in
their personalities and attitudes; and their way of thinking and behaving also differ. I have found in my
experience that the best way to know others is to interact and to socialize. My life has been filled with
lots of people with whom I have interacted and who have taught me a valuable lesson. When thinking
of people that I have come across in my life, I thought of interviewing one of my classmates from
English class.
I got an opportunity to interview my classmate Mr. Nabaraj Kandel. He is 19 years old. He is a very
hardworking individualist who was born in a small village called Gulmi but was raised in Kathmandu,
Nepal. Nabaraj spent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is religious and also superstitious. He believes in afterlife and reincarnation. He thinks life comes
from another life. While interviewing him, I found many things common in between him and me. One
of those was the cultural shock that we experienced in the United States. Besides, both of us seem to
have more or less same kind of experiences in the United States. We talked about our visit to cities
like Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans. We also discussed about our interest in sports and music. It was
really a good conversation. But there was one thing about which we had different opinions. And it was
all about politics. I don t get involved in politics. I like to stay away from it. But he likes politics. He
likes writing articles on social and political issues. I feel his opinion is very true in his sense. I hate
politics because most of the politicians in our country are corrupt and work for their own benefits.
I had a great time interviewing Nabaraj. I am glad that I got an opportunity to talk to someone who is
an international student like me and is from my own country, Nepal. The interview with him made me
realize that I should really need to work on some of the principles of his life. I would also suggest
other people that I come across in my life to follow these

Wonderland Identity
Whether it is because she is being mistaken for someone she is not or magical foods and drinks are
causing her to change in size, from the moment she gets in wonderland Alice is in constant wonder of
who she is. Her identity is something she feels that she has lost and she simply cannot remember who
she really is, Alice s fall down the rabbit hole introduces a comparable identity crisis (Haughton 194).
In Wonderland, Alice struggles with the importance of knowing herself and is often ordered to identify
herself by the characters she meets the continuous questioning leaves her still unsure of who she is and
who she wants to be. One of the first creatures to really question her on who she is was the Caterpillar,
he asks: who are you? ... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite her unfamiliar surroundings, Alice attempts to interpret everything around her from a logical
point of view due to how mature she is for her age. However, she is still a girl who is only seven years
old and this allows the maturity that she tries so hard to show to fade away. She is in a state of disarray
about who she is because of her developing sense of the difference between childhood and adulthood (
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland 28). At the beginning of the text, Alice tries to read her older sister
s book, only to become bored because of its lack of childish appeals: What is the use of a book ,
thought Alice, without pictures or conversations? (Carroll 1). She wants to be more like her older
sister, but she does have the mind of a child which is why she grows bored and begins her adventure
to wonderland in the first place. Also, Alice eats or drinks something that she finds many times
throughout her adventure, and this shows her lack of maturity: only a child would pick something up
that says Drink me on it and not think of the consequences at all before drinking it. Throughout Alice s
Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll emphasizes the conflict between Alice s desire to be an
adult and grow up and her subconscious wanting to remain the child

Vermiculite Lab Report
I believe that insoluble solid #3 is actually Vermiculite. I believe this mainly because of the
appearance, the color, and reaction to flame. I also did a density test for vermiculite just for small
reference. The color of vermiculite seems to be either tanish or really light orange. The only other
solid that has a tanish/ light orangish color is sand. This insoluble solid cannot be Sand because when I
did the reaction to flame characteristic property test, it was glowing and if you do the reaction to flame
characteristic property test on sand, discoloration will happen. No discoloration happened at all with
the insoluble solid. The density on the piece that we had was about 1.4 g/ml. I believe that insoluble
solid #4 is aluminum. I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe this because the density of the rock was was around 3.0g/ml. The only solids that have a
density around that are Sand which has a density of about 2.7g/ml, Sodium Peroxide which has a
density of about 2.8g/ml, Aluminum which also has a density of around 2.7g/ml and Potassium
Permanganate which has a density of about 2.7 g/ml. This solid cannot be Potassium Permanganate
nor Sodium Peroxide because they are both soluble in water and are also soluble in the sludge liquid. I
would say that this insoluble solid cannot be Aluminum because of the color. The color of the rock
was a bit tanish and smothered with some black parts in it. During the reaction to flame characteristic
property test, the rock started becoming more black as if it was either changing colors or melting a
little. The rock didn t have an odor either and this is why I believe that this insoluble solid is sand but

The Non Profit Program Called Teach For America
Based on my personal experience, I could not fully grasp the idea when I first hear about the non
profit program called Teach for America. I am originally from a country where one must spend four
years in institution specially designed for prospect teachers. After four year education, a person finally
qualifies to take notorious teaching certification exam. Not everyone with four year degree in teacher s
university passes the exam. And that is not the end either. After obtain a certification, trainee teacher
must serve minimum one year before really start teach. Encountering the teacher s university itself
requires a high high school GPA and College entrance exam score. Since teacher is considered as a
government worker, all the benefits comes from the government itself, therefore all tuition and even
dormitory are free. After going through all the hardship, a person becomes a teacher and he or she is
certified for rest of the life. I know specific step of each stage of becoming teacher because both of my
parents were teachers and my aunts are currently working as a teacher. With this background, I simply
cannot believe that people are only receiving a five weeks training before actually start teaching
children. I would be surprise if it is five months. However, those who accepted as a Teach for America
only receives an intensive five weeks training and that are all. It is very true that trainees are all from
prestigious schools like Harvard, Yale and many more. The

What I Learned About Management
Concrete Experience I knew that management was something I was mentally programed for from a
young age. May of 2000 was the summer going into my sophomore year of high school and I was
venturing into my first tax paying job at Sonic. I liked the structure it had, compared to the odd
summer jobs I had been picking up in the past. From the ripe age of 16, I had already began the
process of evaluating personnel, process s for improvements, and trying to create a safer work
environment for myself and those around me. With the start of my senior year quickly approaching, I
was already balancing sports, grades, college applications, and now my employer was asking me to
step up from a shift leader to assistant manager. I always had the thoughts, if I were the manager I
would do this or I would do that. The same thoughts everyone else was having, except I wasn t saying
unrealistic comments like; we would have two hour lunches and I wouldn t make anyone work Friday
nights. I was looking at how personnel were used and how their strengths were not being maximized. I
was critiquing the processes that had been in place well before I came around, that had never been
questioned. I was young and had big plans for my future that didn t include anything to do with
management. At the time, I never knew I was starting to develop skill sets that would help me reach
goals in my current career. My first year of college was cut short with my desire to join the United
States Army. All

Suffragettes Movement
One of the most inspiring and empowering time for women worldwide was when we fought for the
right to be heard. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or leading
community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women would win the
right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often touted by friends for
not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but I believe, even with all
the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free themselves. It may take many
more years I m not a prophet, but I know the strength of female energy. We carry life and give birth. I

The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually
included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities of
men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of their
country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two major players
on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the Suffragettes. These two
fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some would still argue that
women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the male/female playing field
is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their cause, however the Suffragist
were more militant about getting their message heard. By today s standards obstructing traffic and
heckling wouldn t be considered assaulting, but in the early 1900s it quickly got you thrown in jail.
Naturally there s more to the story, but whatever these women faced, it took

Moving through the pass, Alexander advanced onto a plain near the village of Sollioi. The leader of Darius Greek mercenaries advised the Persian king to keep his forces on the open plain. • 9. Textual Analysis Of Pocahontas Claudine Capistrano De Luca Humanities 332 6 November 2014 Midterm #2 Part 1 The Disney movie Pocahontas was released in 1995 and was directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric Goldberg. The film depicts the life of a young Native American woman known as Pocahontas and the hardships she comes to face as she develops a relationship with an English settler whose original plan was to take stronghold of their land. Pocahontas utilizes the dramatic progression of exposition, complication/rising, action and resolution. In addition, the film is organized in a series of cuts and angles to develop an aesthetically pleasing movie. Pocahontas introduces crucial background information such as the different settings, characters, etc. This is primarily done through the use of dialogue. An example of this would be the lyrics of the song in the beginning of the film, which states, For the new world is like Heaven, and we ll all be rich and free, or so we have been ... In addition, panning creates a smooth transition between the different cuts in the movie. It creates a match cut, where two similar shots are joined together, making the transition hidden from the viewers. In addition, the directors also include an aerial view camera angle in this scene, which gives the impression of a bird flying above the vast landscape. In contrast to the panorama, this camera angle provides a greater distance between the land and the camera while the panorama was much closer. Instead of seeing just the crops and the trunks of the trees, the aerial perspective allows the viewer to see the entire farmland as well as the entirety of the trees and flowing ... Before the interactive oral assignments were presented, I understood the themes of hubris and sight on a low level. The interactive oral presentations really strengthened my understanding of why Sophocles used these themes in his story about a king who falls from power. Now I know that hubris was a hated characteristic in this time period and that is why Sophocles wanted to demonstrate how bad it was to his audience. The interactive oral presentations also taught me about other Greek myths, festivals, history, and even the setup of their stages. This deeper understanding of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. My Learner s Academic Development On Their Past Work And... I am basing my descriptions of my Average Learner s academic development on their past work and observations. They can read and understand simple texts. In fact, the history textbook for this class is within their reading level and so they can read and understood information therein. In addition, they can listen and follow verbal instructions. For them, I do not have to repeat nor display my instruction on the whiteboard nor through PowerPoint slides, but I do sometimes have to speak slower to assure they can hear what I say. They can write simple and complex sentences, with a high degree of clarity. (I will provide further information about this when I describe their language development later in this paper). Collectively, they can collaborate in groups, preferably of no more than three students in a group, because anything more is not conducive to learning. The reason they work well together because most know each other from being in the same classes last year and the on the same sport team this class has many baseball players. Insofar, this has proven to be advantageous, by having them in groups, and I could not be more satisfied with the results. However, they are not perfect students. They have gaps in their speculative developments. One of them is, comprehending primary sources. They are still learning to comprehend primary document texts. For example, in the past, I had tried using length, a page long or more, and unedited primary documents. I had used George ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of The Movie Phoenix Jackson When using symbolism, objects or even people can be used to represent your answer or explanation. For example, Uncle Sam (U.S) was a symbol for the United States when they were going to war, and they put up the famous poster of Uncle Sam pointing his finger at you with the slogan on the bottom of the poster that says I want you! Food can also be used as a symbol. For example, fried chicken, hot dogs, and hamburgers are foods commonly consumed in America, while in other countries, they probably haven t even heard about hamburgers, because we are all accustomed to what we eat. In the beginning of the short story, Phoenix Jackson is introduced as an elderly woman making her way in the woods talking to herself and saying no one is going to stop her from making her journey. First, she gets stuck in a thorn bush, but gets out of it. Then she has to cross a creek on a log, but because of her age, something bad could happen, so she closed her eyes and crossed. She sat near a tree to rest, and began to daydream of a little boy giving her a slice of marble cake, which she gladly accepts, but when she tried to take it, she was just waving her hand in the air. She sees a Scarecrow, who she mistakenly takes it as a man, and then a ghost, and starts to dance with it. • 14. 22 Cheers Play 22 STEPS is a dramatic thriller driven by strong themes of survival and perseverance. The idea of friends coming together to save another friend is well appreciated. The goal is clear and the stakes are high. The story has a defined three act structure and the script is goal focused. The script is easy to read. While solid themes drive the script, the script would benefit from more development. The areas that are worth discussing include the structure, the tension, tone, believability, and character development, including dialogue. • 15. Comparing Poems My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover TITLE Robert Browning s poems, My Last Duchess ( MLD ) and Porphyria s Lover ( PL ) take the form of dramatic monologues and are striking examples of literature written in the Victorian era. Due to their form, a great interaction is developed between the reader and narrator, with an additional oratory effect; this allows the audience to understand a situation less ambiguously through features such as tone. Therefore, Browning is able to present male and female characters more completely. Furthermore, the poems accurately convey gender inequality present in Victorian society, hinting at the lack of liberties given to women. In MLD, Browning employs the Duke as narrator, developing the reader s perception of his personality through use of language and literary devices. As a result, the Duke inadvertently portrays himself as egocentric, proprietorial and at times arrogant, psychotic and paranoid. He refers to the painting of his late wife as my last Duchess , with the possessive pronoun my indicating the Duchess is just another of his possessions. This element of the Duke s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, bias may be introduced as the narrator would not portray himself with negative facets. Consequently, the reliability of the narrator becomes questionable. This is amplified in MLD, where the Duke s proud nature possibly hinders the truth. In PL, Browning repetitively attempts to depict Porphyria s lover as innocent, while in reality the murder was manic and psychotic. As a result, uncertainty is created throughout PL, as such a narrator may be deceptive. So, the reader s perception of Porphyria s lover might be incorrect, especially during his period of euphoria when Porphyria appears to give herself up to him. This unreliability acts as another way for Browning to portray the male characters, as a misleading narrator will introduce a whole range of negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Resistance to Civil Government, Henry David Thoreau through the supplementing of rhetoric devices perfectly argues the ineffectiveness of the government. In addition to outlining the hypocrisy and corruption , Thoreau courageously dots the short comings, responsibilities, as well as, expanding on effective and deliberate initiatives citizens must initiate to implement a more stable and trustworthy government. To start his argument, Thoreau explains the initial duties of the government permitted as a society. From the start, the government was only the mode which the people have chosen to execute their will is (said to be) equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can act through it for it has become run by a few individuals using it (the standing government) as their tool (Thoreau 843). Thoreau, through the use of special diction such as inexpedient and chosen, explains the ineffectiveness of the government, due to the fact that the will of the people no longer the main focus of the government. In the point of view of Thoreau, it will greatly benefit the people to never allow this government, run by few, to itself further any enterprise (Thoreau 843). How Biometric Security Technology Works One of the most important ways that biometric technology is impacting security lies within the confines of computer information systems. The government, the military, and large corporations need to have complete assurance that the data and information stored on their networks and databases are only available to users who have been authorized to view such material. Biometric technology offers an alternative to the most used system currently in place in most operations: passwords or personal identification numbers (PIN). Instead of users inputting their password or PIN, users interact with a computer terminal that will scan their finger, face, voice, retina, etc. to identify them. Many of the next generation personal computer systems will have integrated biometric technology so that no external hardware is needed. In the mean time, users can buy small peripherals, like a mouse with integrated biometric technology or a small finger terminal for finger scans, to secure their personal computers. The theme is deep as a result of the many things that are happening within the background and the foreground. As an example, there are bodies with garments ripped of from the battle and a fallen horse at the front center of the painting; however, the background also contains many winged demons and murderers who ride in from some distant place. As for the forms within the painting, they are realistic, and never flat. The horses are spherical and appear to be very strong; the lion s claws are immense and tear blood from the flesh of the person the lion attacks. The forms are well accomplished and reinforce the drama of the scene, which the artist meant to depict. All of the shapes are meant to be full to provide weight and seriousness to the piece. None of the forms are lightweight or ethereal, even the clouds are giant and full. Most of the figures have significant shadowing and strips of highlight to deepen the distinction between the dark and lightweight colors.
