Icarus By Christine Hemp
In the poem Icarus , Christine suggests that disaffection even affects those that are
close to one another, even when expectations are soaring. The poet frames her text
around the planning of Daedalus schemes to escape the labyrinth, but rather than
being happy and proud, Icarus feels as if he was dead weight, and urges to be
something that would be of help of others with the attitude of bound by the string
connecting father and son, invisible thread I tried years to untie. I ached to be a good
for something on my own. (Lines 13 15) This metaphor conveys that Icaruseven as a
son, wants to stop being connected with his dad and tries to untie their father and son
bond. But as trying to untie and successfully unravel it, but as soon as he escapes
those threads , something unfortunate was bound to happen.... Show more content on

Other details Christine Hemp chooses to augment the idea that the dissatisfaction that
has grown with, didn t know I d get drunk with the heat, flying high, too much a son
to return. Poor Daedalus, his mouth O an below, his hands outstretched to catch the
rain of wax. He still doesn t know. (Line 20 25) This metaphor shows that Icarus in
fact, disobeyed and ignored his father s rules with the wings. He uses drunk to
compare that in fact when someone is drunk, they are usually an alcoholic, free
with any amount of alcohol. But as soon as he is free , something bad was bound
to pop up. Christine Hemp explains as the wax melts, he realizes that he was in
trouble and spots his father with his mouth open and says He still doesn t know ,
showing that for a fact, he never exhibited affection to his dad and never concerned
himself, but Daedalus in fact, only cared for the wings themselves because he was
only collecting the wings, not noticing
An Analysis Of Poetry Explication In One Art
Poetry Explication Essay One Art In the villanelle One Art written by Elizabeth
Bishop, the poem dramatizes the conflict between the speaker wanting to let go of
the things that she has lost, but has a hard time doing so. This poem is worded in a
way and tone that gives a heartbreaking effect to the reader as the speaker discusses
what she has lost and how [t]he art of losing isn t hard to master (Line 1, and also
others). As the poem progresses, it is revealed that the speaker is unsure about
letting go and has a challenging time with it. The persona who Elizabeth Bishop
presents in the poem On Art brings to the reader the idea that [t]he art of losing isn
t hard to master (1). Trying to not to miss these things, she goes on to express how
so many things seem filled with the intent/ to be lost (2 3). Things were made to be
lost, which from a reader s point of view can be compared to how humans are
made to eventually die. As the speaker continues, she explains what some of the
things that she has lost are. These include; lost door keys, wasting time away,
places she wished to visit, her dreams, people, her mother s watch, places she s
been, and finally, you (16), whom the speaker is telling this all to. This poem
expresses the idea that things lost are often times hard to let go of, even when it
does not seem the case. Though the poem states throughout the first 5 out of 6
stanzas, [t]he art of losing isn t hard to master (1), by the 6th stanza, the reader can
see that the persona whom the poet has created starts to doubt and question herself.
This is shown through the use of changing the specific poem form. The last stanza
has 4 lines as the rest have only 3. The poet consciously bended the rules of a
villanelle poem to give a certain effect of heartbreak and change. This allows the
reader to understand how the speaker realizes that she is having a harder time
moving on from what she had hoped to master, the art to not feel sorry for herself
when things become lost. This is shown when the repetitive line now becomes the
art of losing s not too hard to master/ though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster
(18 19). It is not made clear the exact speaker of the poem. The

Okonkwo s Society
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the definition of primitive as an
adjective is: belonging to, or seeming to come from an early time in the very
ancient past. As well as not having a written language, advanced technology, etc.
However, the second part of this definition is: having very simple and basic way in
what is not modern and that does not show much skill. This is the part that has
lead me to take the stance on not classifying the people of Okonkwo s society as
primitive. The first chapter of the book focuses on Unoka, Okonkwo s father; he
was seen as a lazy and wasteful man to the community. While reading the story told
about Okeye, we see a sense of the modern world through the asking of the repayment
of the borrowed money.
How Diversity Is Important For A Successful Organization

economy, financial and marking. So people travel one country to another country
with their culture and languages for work and trade and this make the multi culture in
different kind of organization and workplace. People are interconnecting thought the
trade, lifestyles, in the labour markets and employment patterns, and in business
dealings. Diversity in the workplace is worker in workplace from different kind of
the background and they can be different in gender, age, physical ability, sexual
orientation, religious belief, work experience, educational background, and many
more. Today in many countries diversity in the workplace increasing day by day and
organization became a multicultural. Nowadays diversity play very role important
for a successful organization in this global kind of the market. Diversity is an
greatly important factor and the effect of diversity seems positive and the negative in
the workplace. (Business Australia 2015) There are many benefit of the organization

the people with organisations will also continue to change..In the work so many Kind
of the diverse minds help the organisation to solve the different kind of the problems

purposes and in a variety of environments. According to the Bureau of Labor

with these two volunteer programs Keep TampaBay Beautiful and Meals on Wheels

challenges these volunteer programs are facing the types of services they provide?
And, which organization is liable to have a successful program and what would I

recursos. La palabra decisiГіn deriva del tГ©rmino decido que significa cortar;
referido al concepto actual, se entiende que se corta una alternativa finalmente

This Christmas, when I first walked into my grandparent s house, I noticed
something I hadn t before: the house s familiar smell. Describing it is difficult, but it
smelt like comfort and childhood and all the wonderful things I love to reminisce
about on cross country car rides. Realizing I have smelt, heard, or experienced
something before is undoubtedly one of my favorite sensations. Weeks ago, while
listening to music, the theme song to Downton Abbey suddenly began to play,
reminding me of lazy Sunday nights, spent nestled next to my mother, engrossed in
our favorite TV show. Once bubblegum pink flashes into view, it instantly transports
me to exhilaratingly bumpy jeep rides in Arizona. When washing mint leaves to

The once young face of my dad enters my mind; we are swimming in a pool on a
bright spring day, and I my giggles echo through my ears. There have been several
times in my life where I have complained, sobbed, or screamed until my voice
fizzled out. Embarrassing, awkward moments seem to follow me, and I have my
share of failures; however, when I revisit my past, warmth and laughter comprise
most of my standout memories. In this regard, I am most fortunate. The memories
that stick with me are gentle, often needed reminders of what is truthfully
important to me. Makeup, clothing, and general superfluous items habitually
devour my attention. Nevertheless, my memories of this paraphernalia are always
coupled with a shared experience. Shopping has only ever been exciting when I
can compare clothing with my best friends. And makeup would lose a great deal of
its value if I didn t smile thinking about stealing my Mom s mascara at the age of
five or my friend smearing blue eye shadow on my lids when I was thirteen. To

Parks have been around for many years. They truly have impacted not only suburbs,
but they have majorly impacted cities. Without the invention of parks it would be
hard to escape city life. Cities are still changing from what they used to be and how
they are designed. However the future of the parks is unsure due to funding and lack
of maintenance. The first idea of a park was from William Penn in 1682. He created a
plan for Philadelphia to have five areas of park like land. Then James Oglethorpe
had an idea in 1733 for Savannah. He established a system, where neighborhoods
were revolved around a square (Schuyler, 2015). The first recorded urban park was
Fairmount Gardens. It was created in 1812, in Philadelphia when they constructed
their waterworks. The park first started off at five acres, surrounding the
waterworks. The park had become so popular that in 1828 they expanded it to
twenty eight acres. In 1850, Lemon Hill and Sedgley estates were added to
Fairmount, which made the popularity of the park increase. People thought the
park site was chosen because of the class of people that lived there, but that was not
the case. The land was chosen because it was too elevated. Since the land was so
elevated that made it too hard to build and expensive to build anything there or to
build roads on that kind of land (Schuyler, 2015). Parks then became very popular in
cities. William Cullen Bryant and Andrew Jackson Downing became the faces

where there was Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
They surrounded the revolutionaries and took them prisoner. Lenin was free. The last

finally defeated the enemy army.
After this victory, the restructuring has begun in the country. Now Lenin was not an

Only Lenin opened the car door, as there shot rang out. The bullet caught by Vladimir

only an old woman, who did not see anything. She was caught and
Essay on The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas
The Penguing Classic Early Irish Myths and Sagas
The Penguin Classic Early Irish Myths And Sagas exhibits a great cross section of
the many examples of the stories told by Iron Age Celts. These stories revolve
around the customs, battles, gods, and heroes of the ancient Celts. It is said that a
great deal can be learned from Irish tales about the clothing, weapons, houses, and
other aspects of the material culture of the Iron Age Celts 1 and that the stories are
more valuable for scholars of society than scholars of religion 2.
The question if these stories are a good window on the Iron Age is a difficult one.
Firstly historians can not even confirm what happened in the time of the Iron Age
Celts, secondly, without much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character Cu Chulaind could grow to abnormal sizes to defeat enemies like in
the first story of The Boy hood Deeds of Cu Chulaind where he fought and proved
himself to all three fifties of the young boys. Then in the second story he is
conquering enemies at the age of six to save his people and their name. These stories
even have supernatural pigs. The pig in The Tale of Macc Da Tho s Pig was so big
that 40 oxen had laid across it and its stomach was enough for a meal for nine men. 4
Beside these logical impossibilities historians have also found mistakes in the
historical interpretations of these stories. The research in Ronald Hutton s book
The Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles tells of many errors in the in the
references in association with the proposed time line. The archeology suggests that
the earliest literature was not a window on the Iron Age but on the early Middle
Ages in which it was composed. In many of the stories they speak of gathering in
Halls, fighting with swords which came about in the Viking age, and riding in
chariots from the Christian times 5. The real Iron Age Celts had a simpler way of
living than the higher class they are portrayed to have enjoyed living in.
The stories in the book Early Irish Myths And Sagas can tell us a great deal about
the Celtic Peoples praying to more than one god. Some of the stories tell us who their
gods were, what their
The Management Of A Company
How would you feel if you owned part of a company, but could not help make any
decisions on the future of the company? Those who own majority of the company
decide to hire mangers to make important decisions on your company. This is a
general example on how shareholders run their company. Now wouldn t you rather
help make decision, or be able to factor in ideas from the employees and community
that has helped the business grow? If so, you might want to consider the stakeholders
theory. Different stakeholders can hold varying amounts of influence and interest,
within the organization. For example, consider a factory worker. An individual
worker has large interests in the company, in terms of working conditions, salary, and
benefits.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internal stakeholders are described as the managers and employees of a company.
Connected stakeholders are those that are beyond the immediate boundaries of the
firm, while external stakeholders are those who are outside the firm. Some would
say it is rather difficult to argue the stakeholders theory because there is not as
much information on the subject as there is shareholders theory. They would argue
that shareholders own most corporations; and presently, corporations owned by
stakeholders would be unsuccessful in the long run. There has been some debate
on the legitimacy of the concept of the stakeholder, according to Friedman and
Miles. The stakeholder concept has not gone unchallenged. Many have reiterated
the alternative stakeholder positions. Others have challenged implications of the
stakeholder concept for certain groups (Friedman and Miles 118). Friedman and
Miles go on to argue how stakeholders can weaken an organization, and even alter
its long term characteristics. Assume that the stakeholder concept is infallible and
consider the example of the factory worker. The company is publicly owned and is
located in a more economically developed country (MEDC), where it will have a
weaker influence from the government when compared to government owned
companies. Labor unions associated with the company will likely be strong and
workers will have a higher influence than they would in a less economically
developed country (LEDC) where unions are
The Effects Of Pets On The Health And Physical Activity...
It is widely believed that pets can have a positive impact on the health and physical
activity levels of their owners. These three articles take a deeper look at the health
effects pets have on their owners in terms of physical activity, blood pressure levels,
stress levels, and risk of allergy sensitization. This study conducted by Allen, Shykoff,
and Izzo evaluates the effect of social support intervention (pet ownership) in relation
to stress before and while undergoing ACE inhibitor therapy. This study hypothesized
that having a pet would help to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and reninresponses to
psychological stress. The study had 48 participants, equally distributed between male
and female, with stage II hypertensionand in a high stress profession (stockbrokers).
Participants were randomized to either a control group (without pets) or an
experimental group (who acquired pets subsequently). After 1 month of observation,
all participants completed, at home, baseline mental stress sessions. These sessions
consisted of participants doing psychologically stressful tasks while their systolic
blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR), and plasma
renin activity (PRA) were measured and recorded. After the first baseline session
was completed, all participants from both groups began lisinopril therapy (20 mg/d).
At the same time, participants in the experimental group were also instructed to get a
pet cat or dog. Six months later,
Art in the Middle Ages and The Renaissance and Its Effect...
The Medieval period also referred to as the Middle Ages was the period of time
between the demise of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance era; this was the
period from the 5th century to the 17th century in Europe. During this time, society
conformed to the feudal system which was based on the hierarchy approach which
upper class had control over the lower class. Included in this class structure were
kings, lords, neighboring kings, peasants and church leaders.
In the Middle Ages, art evolves as humans continue addressing the traditional and the
new, including Biblical subjects, Christian dogma, and Classical mythology

The Renaissance is best known for its art as this was the age of geniuses as
Leonardo da Vinci, Petrarch, Dante, and Michelangelo (Medieval and Modern
History. ,1905 ). Art of the Renaissance era utilized more realistic representations
than art from the Middle Ages. For example, the human body was painted in a
realistic manner, often with backdrops of nature. There was lesser emphasis placed
on religious art and vanished were the images that had people positioned freely and
in came proportioned groupings. Also, the progression of science helped artists
recognize the idea of perspective, where items that were drawn smaller essentially
looked as if they were at a distance and by using light and shadowing they were able
to obtain a more factual resemblance of reality.
Artist of that time, such as Leonardo da Vinci focused more on the detail of
anatomy, showing more of the human form with less or no clothing. Leonardo da
Vinci was one of the first artists of the renaissance period to utilized science in his
artwork and learned the physical proportions of the human body. He utilized what
he learned to create what he described to be the perfect human figure which he
demonstrated in his art work. Two of his most popular pieces of art were the Last
Supper and the Mono Lisa.
Artwork of the medieval period was present across several countries, and transitioned
a great deal for more than
Summary Of Appiah s Kindness To Strangers
If faced with globalization, these people may move away or even learn different
languages and just generally become different. This, in Appiah s view, is not
something that we should prevent from happening because within these tiny
homogenous pockets are people that long to be different therefore, by allowing
contamination to occur, you allow people to shape their own lives instead of them
being oppressed into a cultural homogeneity: there is no place for the enforcement of
diversity by trapping people within a kind of difference they long to escape. (105)
Kindness to Strangers In this last chapter, Appiah discusses the stranger kindness
predicament in which there is a dilemma about how, and when strangers should
commit acts of kindness

Chan Yan Tak began working in kitchens at the age of either 13 or 14 at the Dai Sam

because his family was in need of the money. Because of his young age he was
forbidden to use a knife and was used for tasks such as plucking chickens and
washing vegetables. In truth his career as a chef only started in the 1970s when he
worked in a number of restaurants such as Fook Lam Moon. In 1984 he became the

The Occupational Safety and Health Act
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 heralded a new era in the history of
public efforts to protect workers from harm on the job. This Act established for the
first time a nationwide, federal program to protect almost the entire work force from
job related death, injury and illness, (MacLaury). Occupational health and safety
awareness pre dates OSHA by decades, though, and it is important to place the
administration within its historical context. The Industrial Revolution in the late
nineteenth century proceeded like a locomotive, without any barrier or restriction.
However, working conditions became increasingly dangerous. Social and political
activism spawned the labor movements that led to early occupational safety
regulations. As United StatesDepartment of Labor Occupational Safety and Health
Administration states, the nation s first occupational safety regulations were passed
in Massachusetts in 1877. Several states followed suit, paving the way for the
United States Department of Labor to take federal action. Special investigator for
the Department of Labor, Alice Hamilton, conducted some of the first forma surveys
of factories and other industrial workplaces. These formative surveyed provided the
methodological foundations upon which modern occupational safety research and
practice are built. In 1934, Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins created the Bureau of
Labor Standards, to provide a list of regulations and codify them in law. The Bureau

Understanding Memes In Human Genes
Understanding Memes
Genes are the genetic code that allows us to pass down and spread our traits and
DNA to our descendants. It is constantly changing as we adapt and multiply our
species, inheriting and letting go of certain traits to implement into the next person.
Much like these genes, memes are also the sort of code that humans use to link our
ideas to each other. A memecan be an idea, an image, a sound, a phrase, or any
combination of these. Their means of transportation along our web of knowledge is
(or forms of) language. Before modern language, it was hard to demonstrate abstract
ideas and pass them down to the next generation, but now, it is commonplace.
Where did the term meme originate from?
The history of the term meme is fairly recent, but from the point of view modern
society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now while this may be true of the meme modified specifically for that purpose, its
origins were not fueled by any sort of hate or racism. This is a prime example of
how the mutation of memes can be suited and selected for purposes, much like how
animals inherit certain genes to help them adapt to a specific environment. People
with common interests or opinions can take a common idea, and adapt or twist it to
make it suit their purposes, making the idea itself take on a biased view among
others unaware of the original intent of said idea. While not common amongst
political and corporate organizations, the modification and adaptation of memes has
been a way to express personal thoughts in a way others can relate for quite some
time within certain internet communities. Memes don t typically come about for
specialized purposes, but they can inherit traits to end up doing exactly

Hurricane Katrina was an incredibly unique hurricane that left 90,000 square miles

it still is affecting families in New Orleans. Although there was one good effect

Not to mention that even people in places that don t get hurricanes build levees

Value Of Personal Loans
Personal loans can feel like a God send when you re in a financial pinch or when
you want to increase your nest egg. However, without the proper guidance, it can be
easy to blow through a personal loan. While that s tempting, your real goal should be
to get the most value out of your personal loan. To do that, you have to know what
kinds of loans are out there and what the possible drawbacks to each are. Then you
can finally make an informed decision that will allow you to get the most value from
your loan.
Doing Your Homework
Like anything else, you need to look at several kinds of loans as well as your

You wind up paying a lot more money in the end with these loans, especially when
you consider roll over fees. Many times these are so much, you wind up paying
more in the process of paying back your loan than you originally borrowed.
Getting the Maximum Value From Your Loans
Despite the high interest rates on some types of loans, it s still possible to get a good
value out of your loan. First, if you can get a loan with a lower amount of interest,
use these financial tools to pay off some of the higher interest debts you have as
well as loans or lines of credit.
Additionally, making the most of your loan may actually have nothing to do with
your loan, but rather what you do with your money elsewhere. Once you get your
loan, put the money from the loan into a savings account that has a high interest rate.
If your personal loan interest rate is 12%, and you put the money in a savings
account that get even just 3%, you effectively lower the rate of your loan to 9%.
If there are no pre pay penalties, then pay off your loan early if you can. Often the
amount of money you have to pay in interest is what really takes a chunk out of
your wallet. Shave off months or even years from a loan to save cash in the end,

Analysis Of Paul Green Theatre At Detroit 67 And Took
My...
When I walked into Paul Green Theatre to watch Detroit 67 and took my seat on
stage right, my first thought was this story is going to be entirely depressing. The
scene was a dingy living space of a family in the 1960 s with a cold concrete floor
that served as a modest barrier between the stage and audiencealong with a dimly lit
single room containing a couch and a record player in the front of the stage. I
could almost feel the chilly aura being emitted from the concrete floor and poorly
painted, solid grey steps leading up to the stage exit. In the back of the setting was a
combined kitchen, wash, and bar area. All these signs of destitution were nothing
special except for one piece of the scenery that did not fit the rest. The Christmas
lights that served as decor for the backstage bar area stood out to me and I figured
the time took place around Christmastime. Even still, the lights could not eradicate
the dreary feeling looming overhead in the dark theatre. Then, I heard the music and
everything changed.
Suddenly, Marvin Gaye s voice broke through my deep, somber thoughts and gave
me a glimmer of hope. There was no doubt that I was hearing Ain t No Mountain
High Enough, and I knew at that point that the play would have have a resilient
message. The setlists of this play would include many more 60 s top artist, such as
The Temptations, Four Tops, and Earth,Wind, Fire. This was a great way to tell the
story before the main presentation of the story took place. I
The Medical Science Of Cardiology
Young 1
The Medical Science of Cardiology Have you ever felt your heart race after a run,
or when you watch a movie, your heart stops? Well, your heart is an incredibly
important organ within the human body that keeps you alive and helps run your
body. The heart is such an important component of the body. If something goes
wrong, it needs to be taken care of immediately; this urgent job is given to
cardiologists. Cardiology is the medical science of treatment of the heart. This science
is filled with specialists known as cardiologists. A cardiologist is a doctor with
special training and skill in finding, treating and preventing diseases of the heart and
blood vessels (What is a Cardiologist?). When becoming a cardiologist, you may
choose to specialize in a certain area. Within the broad spectrum of cardiology, there
are many subspecialties, or sub branches within the field. Sub branches within
cardiology include the following: electrophysiology, interventional cardiology,
general clinical cardiology, nuclear cardiology, heart failure and transplant cardiology,
preventative cardiology, and many more. Electrophysiology focuses on irregular
heartbeats and timing. Interventional cardiologists specialize in treating
cardiovascular disease, heart problems that the patient has had since birth, and
angioplasty and stenting. General clinical cardiologists target management and
prevention of diseases. Nuclear cardiologists use small amounts of radiation to
The Uses Of Tissue And Skin
The use of fibroblasts in skin substitutes is a crucial step toward better burn wound
healing. Fibroblasts, which are naturally found in the dermis layer, are in charge of
synthesizing and secreting the components that make up the extracellular matrix. In
order for the skin to heal properly, one component that is especially important is
collagen, for it plays a major part in the structure of the skin. Lack of collagen
synthesis during healing can lead to raised scar, resulting in poor skin function and
appearance[18].
TransCyte is a temporary, bioactive synthetic covering with a similar structure to
Biobrane, with an addition of fibroblasts. Like Biobrane, it is also used as covering
for burn patients before autografting or for patients with partial thickness burns
who do not require autografts[11][12]. TransCyte consists of two layers, a silicone
outer layer and an inner nylon mesh seeded with fibroblasts. The outer silicone
layer is a semipermeable membrane, containing a series of laser punched holes that
allow excess fluids to be drained[13]. The inner nylon mesh membrane is coated
with porcine collagen peptides, creating the base onto where the neonatal fibroblasts
can be cultured, since collagen is a main component of the skin. In order to seed the
fibroblasts within the nylon mesh, the entire membrane, silicone outer layer
included, was placed inside a specially designed bioreactor. This bioreactor provided
a continuous, constant flow of fibroblasts at a rate of about
Main Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
In 1900 in China, an underground association supported by peasants, the Society of
the Righteous and Harmonious Fist, initiated attacks against Christians, foreigners
and foreign property. They were labeled Boxers , due to their martial arts fighting
style.
There were three main causes of the Boxer Rebellion.
The primary cause was anti foreign sentiment. China suffered a series of devastating
defeats against foreign powers in the Opium wars, and the Sino War. China was
forced to sign the Unequal Treaties which granted foreigners business and territorial
power. A political cartoon published in a French newspaper (1898), depicts foreign
world leaders carving China into a Chine pie. A Chinese mandarin looks on in
disgust, yet helpless.
These treaties damaged Chinese businesses, and created unemployment. The
introduction of modern technology and industrialisation further disrupted the
economy.
According to Historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that were
disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that
China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and
only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the
balance be restored.
In response the Boxers cut telegraph wires, burnt down railway stations and
destroyed large sections of railroad during their rebellion. Historian Diana Preston
stated in her book. The Boxers attacked all manifestations of foreign

The Second And Final Component Of The Flavian Dynasty
The third and final component of the Flavian dynasty is Caesar Domitianus
Augustus, the self proclaimed God and ruthless dictator who reigned from AD 81 to
96. Domitian is the youngest son of the emperor Vespasian and Flavia Domitilla. He
was the less favored son of Vespasian, his father valued his heir to the thrown and
Domitians older brother, Titus. Domitian s youth was largely spent living in the
shadows of Titus. As a child Domitian lived on rural land that his father acquired,
spending most of his time in his home on Pomegranate Street, which was later
turned into a temple of the Flavian family. Domitian spent a degraded childhood
consisting of struggles with poverty and infamy. He became accustomed to rural
life as a child and when he fled from Rome whenever possible in order to sulk in
isolation and stab fireflies. After the death of Vitellius when he was fighting a war up
against Vespasian, Domitian gained the title as Ceaser. However, Domitian only
held the name as Ceaser, he appointed a colleague to handle all Judicial decisions. In
order for Domitian to gain a military reputation that would outshine his brother Titus,
he devised a pointless expedition from Gaul to Germany, which was dismissed by
his father s friends. As a result, Domitian was reprimanded and failed at gaining a
good military reputation. Domitian constantly turned to the idea of competition in
order to gain power. An example of this is shown when Domitian wanted to offer

Dysfunctional Family In Fences
The way a family is viewed in today s time is the one of the american dream, with
the white picket fence and smiling faces from both the children and the parents.
Unfortunately, the curtain is pulled back to see the father three doors down with the
single mother, the son is leaping out the window every night and the mother is taking
too many supplements for depression while the little girl sleeps alone in the dark,
crying. Not every familycan be portrayed as what they want to be. To some extent,
every family has their own problems that they must deal with everyday. No matter
how much white paint one coats over their fence, someone stopping by will see the
cracks and uneven brush strokes on the structure that is supposedly supposed to
protect them all. These types of families have children that grow up with their
parents always on edge, snapping at random moments and start to believe that this is
how a family is supposed to act. Then, when they leave their unstable environment,
they have their own problems with the new family they created, which are inherited
from the one they thought they left behind. The attachment they once had to their
former life was left in loose ends and unneeded ties with no scissors available to cut
them with. Dysfunctional families often have these types of dynamics and are
viewed not only from personal experiences but now also are transferred into works
of literature to develop the misgivings of such a family. In Fences, August Wilson
creates a
Inflammatory Bowel Disease Essay
The term Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a general name given to a few
disorders that all fall under the category of inflamed intestines (they become red and
swollen.) This is usually due to a reaction the body causes against its own intestinal
tissue. The two most common types of Inflammatory Bowel Disease are Ulcerative
Colitis(UC) and Crohn s Disease (CD). Crohn s disease can affect any part of the
gastrointestinal tract; however, it more commonly affects the small intestine or colon.

People who suffer from Crohn s disease may also suffer the same risks of colon
cancer, but typically only if the entire colon is affected. There are also rare extra
intestinal cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease that occur in organs other that the
intestinal tract. These symptoms may include arthritis, liver and kidney disorders,
bone loss, and more.
In cases of children suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease, it may also delay
puberty. This is due to the body not absorbing all of the nutrients from their food.
They may also suffer from fever, fatigue, and weight loss.
One symptom that is not definite, but may help decide what form of IBD is present,
is where the pain in the abdomen is located. Typically Ulcerative Colitis patients
experience pain in the lower left section of the abdomen, while Crohn s Disease
patients tend to suffer from pain in the lower right section of the abdomen. With
Ulcerative Colitis, bleeding from the rectum during bowel movements is very
common, and bleeding is much less common in patients with Crohn s Disease.
(Tresca, 2009)
While Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn s Disease share similar symptoms, they are
treated different medically. There are cases where the diagnosis of one form of
Inflammatory Bowel Disease over the other is very difficult.
Power In Lord Of The Flies Essay
The book Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, is about a group of boys
who were in a plane crash and landed on an island, along to survive. All over the
world countries run on a hierarchical system, and the people at the top establish
rules and consequences to keep people in line. Those important people use objects
to give power, like a crown. The same concept was also created by Ralph on the
island, he attempted to create a hierarchyand essentially a governmentfor everyone on
the island to stay humane, just like around the world. The novel is about power, as a
result of which the boys created a small government, as well as represent power
through objects.
At the beginning of the novel the group of boys establish a chief of their group.
They hold an election and vote for Ralph to be the main chief and for Jack to be
the main hunter. Ralph, Jack, and Simon go on a expedition of the island, and
figure out that they need to find food. They end up coming across three pigs, and as
Jack prepares to kill the pig he hesitates at the last minute. Ralph calls a meeting in
order to make rules for the island and the boys. Jack agrees with Ralph, and then
creates a punishment for those that break the rules. These steps for creating a
government on the island are very similar to the steps that people around the world
follow to create their government. A quotation from the text that explains this is,
Shut up, said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. Seems to me we ought

Mitosis Vs Meiosis Research Paper
Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell divisions that have various similarities
and differences. They comparably associate with cytokinesis and form daughter
cells however, meiosis occurs in primordial diploid cells in animals, plants and
fungi, whilst mitosis takes place in somatic cells in every organism (Vidyasagar. A,
2015). Meiosis differs from mitosisas it undergoes a process known as DNA
recombination, during which genetic material interchange with chromosomes or
various regions of the same chromosome. DNA recombination is a common source of
genetic variation. Mitosis is the continuous process by which the body creates new
cells to repair damaged or aging membranes, fibers and tissues (Clare O Connor,
2008). The end result of mitosis are two genetically identical diploid daughter cells,
which develop from the single parent cell dividing. Conversely, the meiosis cell
divides into four haploid gametes each possessing half the number of chromosomes
of the parent cell (Alberts. B, 2010).
Fertilisation occurs when the two female and male gametes fuse, causing a diploid cell

Among the all skills listening is different between hearing and listening (Sunita,

Listening is perhaps the most essential skill for second/foreign (L2) language

The Seven Habits
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey became a
blueprint for personal development when it was published in 1989 First of all,
Covey defined habits as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire: Knowledge
is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and why. Skill is the how to do. And
finally, desire is the motivation, the want to do. Now, a paradigm is a framework
containing the basic assumptions, ways of thinking, and methodology that are
commonly accepted by members of a scientific community. The author divided the
habits into two categories: dependence and interdependence. Dependence is the
paradigm under which we are born, relying upon others to take care of us. On the
other side, independence is the paradigm under which we make our decisions and
take care of ourselves. Finally, interdependence is the... Show more content on

You can t achieve this with everyone but you can always look for opportunities to

teamwork, open mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old
problems. Because when people begin to interact together genuinely, and they re open
to each other s influence, they begin to gain new insight. The capability of inventing
new approaches is increased exponentially because of differences. And valuing
differences is what really drives synergy, such as the mental, emotional, and
psychological differences. These differences should be seen as strengths, not
weaknesses. Habit 7: Sharpen the
Shaman Leadership Style
Developing others must be a leader s goal for sustainability of their organization. A
leader can have many styles in developing others. These styles can be in many
different ways, which include shaman, priest, elected leader, missionary or mystic
healer (Manning Curtis, 2015). A leader with shaman style has power, energy and
commitment that motivate others. Leaders with a priest style create structure, order
and continuity and use hierarchy as teaching others. An elected leader style uses
their experiences to learn and teach to their followers. A missionary style has goal
oriented thoughts and teaches through personal conviction. A leader with mystic
healer style practices teaching by being sensitive and flexible with each individual.
Leaders develop their style over their career and eventually become comfortable
using one of these styles to develop others. Over my career, I have probably used
each of these styles to reach the employee to assist improving those individuals over
time. Early in my career I used the shaman style by having energy and commitment in

Ottoman Empire Research Paper
The Ottoman empire began in the area known as modern day Turkey by Turkic
warrior groups in the early 1300s, and it lasted until after World War I in the 1920s.
The Ottoman empire s continued success through the Early Modern Era and after is
attributed to the empire s strong military, vast amount of territory, mastery of
advanced technology, and incorporation of diverse cultures. Mehmed IIwas the ruler
of the Ottoman empirethroughout the mid fourteenth century, and during his rule, he
made many improvements to the government and military, and aided in the empire s
success in conquest. Mehmed II s rule of the Ottoman empire as well as the
interception of advanced military technology allowed the empire use conquest to

Christians, and it was the capital of Byzantine authority. Because of city was a seen
as a representation of Christian power, many other Muslim empires had attempted to
conquest the city around thirteen different times, but Mehmed was the only
successful conquestor. Mehmed began to plan the conquest from the day he gained
control of the Ottoman empire, and he took strategic steps such as the building of a
fortress just outside the city to ensure that Constantinople would fall to his military.
After a fifty four day siege, the Constantinople was captured by the Ottomans on May
29, 1453. This capture marked the end of Christian Byzantium, and after the city was
captured, it became the new Ottoman capital under the name of Istanbul. The
Conquest of Constantinople decreased the prominence of Christendom in the Early
Modern World, leading Christians to fear what was referred to as the terror of the
Turk . Mehmed worked throughout his rule to make Istanbul the commercial center
of the Ottoman empire. Mehmed s Conquest of Constantinople demonstrated the

Copernicus Influence On Religion
The Religious aspects that life seemed to revolve around during the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries made a large impression on the way scientists not only
distributed their information, but the way it was written down and explained. During
the time period the Church held an extraordinary amount of power, easily
outweighing any mere scientist who claimed the seemingly impossible notion that the
sun, not the earth, was in the center of the universe. Should someone inadvertently
challenge this immense authority, death was not simply a threat, it was an absolute
promise. This absolute giant of a power that was the church, loomed over many
scientists such as Copernicus acknowledged this power by writing things such as can
readily hold slanders from biting. Copernicus was directly going against the church
with his theory of heliocentrism though he writes his labors contribute even to the

The church itself changed how scientists as a whole worked, scientists didn t
dedicate their works to their inspirations, or their mothers or fathers like most
authors (scientific or not) do today. In Copernicus case, his work was dedicated it
to the church, easily showing how large of a power this was and how is changed
the way scientists wrote. In very few to no astrology textbooks from the twenty
first century will you find the words moses or the wisdom of God , because while
the church is powerful today, it has no where near the sway it had back a few
hundred years ago. This power not only affected the way people spoke, but how they
lived and how history and science and math was recorded, everything revolved
around the church, everything was static to the church, and yet later on, it
The Atom And The Atomic Of The Energy Level Of Its
Electrons
This energy will excite the affected atom, raising the energy level of its electrons. If
these electrons are excited past the range of the nuclei s binding attractive force, then
the electron will jettison from the atom. These two particles, the ionized atom and
electron, are now detectable indicating the presence of a neutron. This is the material
ionization phenomenon (Crane and Baker). The nuclear reaction induction
phenomenon occurs when a larger nucleus is struck by a neutron. There is a
probability that the nucleus will absorb the neutron and become unstable. This
instability results in the decay of gamma rays or other particles such as alpha
particles and protons. These particles are easily detected and also indicate the presence

In the conversion of alternating current to direct current, electrons from alternating
current will also enter the diode on the left. However, in part to the oscillating nature
of alternating current, the diode output of direct current will be relatively choppy,
since electrons can only move towards the electron holes in the P type semiconductor
(Kuphaldt).
As a result of the choppy nature of the direct current output, a capacitor is used to
smooth the electron fluxes (Copello). A capacitor is an electrical component that
stores charge. In its most basic form, a capacitor is made up of two metal plates with
an insulated layer between them ( Capacitors ). As the electrons flow into the
capacitor, their concentration and charge builds up on one plate. Additionally, due to
the repulsive nature of electrons, the buildup of electrons on one plate will push the
electrons from the other plate, creating a current out of the capacitor ( Capacitors ).
This makes one plate positively charged and the other negatively charged. At this
point, the capacitor is storing energy. So, the capacitor smooths the fluctuating direct
current by slowly releasing its charge between input spikes ( Capacitors ). This
generates a more consistent flow of direct current to the electric grids.
Another primary component of the Farnsworth Fusor is its two concentric electrical
grids. The DC current produced by the diode will be run

The primary piece of legislation used to regulate telecom providers is the
Telecommunication Act of 1996. This paper will examine the characteristics, and
point out similarities, of telecommunications providers and information services such
as the internet. Additionally, regulation of telecommunications and the lack of
regulation for information services will be addressed. Finally, recommendations for
potential ways to regulate information services, the potential legal ramifications of
such regulation, and the technical considerations regarding the recommendations will
be identified.
Background
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the first major overhaul of United States
telecommunications law in nearly 62 years, amending the Communications Act of
1934. This Act was a major stepping stone towards the future of telecommunications,
since this was the first time that the Internet was included in broadcasting and
spectrum allotment. One of the primary goals of the law (Title III specifically) was to
let anyone enter any communications business to let any communications businesses
compete in any market against any other. Also, the new Telecommunications Act
allowed the FCC, and Congress, to update the old and outdated Telecommunications
Act of 1934.

Persuasive Essay On Neutering
IM faithfulfriendsanimalhospital.com Content Neuter
The decision to neuter a pet doesn t come easy for some people in Colorado
Springs, but there are a wide range of excellent reasons to consider this procedure.
Neutering is an irreversible procedure that prevents a dog or cat from reproducing,
but it can also improve your pet s health, safety and their quality of life. When you
neuter your pet, you will be doing your part to help control the homelessness crisis
for pets, which ultimately results in millions of healthy animals in the United States
being euthanized each year, because there simply isn t enough housing for all of the
animals. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should take your pet to the

It will also help lower his risk of prostate problems, such as prostate enlargement.
Taking your pet to the veterinarian to be neutered will eliminate the risk of him
getting testicular cancer, and testicular torsion, which is a painful, life threatening
condition. By having your pet neutered, you may be increasing his lifespan studies
have shown that neutered pets live as much as 3 years longer than pets who have not
been neutered.
Benefits of Neutering
As difficult as it be to make a veterinary appointment for neutering, there are several
benefits that come with the procedure. Neutering has been shown to reduce
aggressive behavior in some males and it reduces the tendency for them to roam. By
eliminating or significantly reducing your pet s natural instincts to roam, you will be
protecting him from accidental injuries resulting from encounters with other animals
or vehicles. It is offers peace of mind in knowing that neutering can reduce the
possibility of temporarily or permanently losing your pet.
Neutered animals may still mark their territory, but many people report that the
procedure significantly reduces or completely eliminates marking/spraying inside the

Toys Should Not Be Gender Biased Essay
Raise boys and girls the same way, a phrase originally said by neo conceptual artist
Jenny Holzer, that urges parents as well as people to raise children without a heavy
influence of gender stereotypes and let the child discover how they want to represent
themselves. A large divide between little boys and girls is shown in the toy industry.
The retail chain Target recognized the influence of the genderbias toys and the impact
they have on children and parents and began neutralizing labels within the toy
department. Toys should not be gender biased because gender stereotyping has
wavered back and forth over the past fifty years. Gender biased toys can have an
impact on a child s development, and the unnecessary labeling of toys has sparked
a cultural shift in society. The battle between the marketing of gender bias toys and
stereotypes dates back to the 1950s. Girls were given toys which reflected the life
of the homemaker women at the time and boys were influenced by army toys to
become tough men. However, society grew out of these norms by the 1970s,
according to Elizabeth Sweet, a sociologist studying children and gender equality at
the University of California, nearly 70 percent of toys had no gender specific labels
at all (Robb). In fact, the most desired Christmas toy of 1970 was the Nerf Ball. The
packaging of the ball displays an image of both a boy and girlplaying with the
incredibly soft and spongy synthetic foam ball. The following nine years of
Literary Criticism Of Hester Prynne
Nathaniel Hawthorne s character, Hester Prynne, is known to be a controversial
character, garnering praise and criticism alike. Literary critic D.H. Lawrence, in
particular, challenges Hawthorne s portrayal of the character, contending that Prynne
is a character of sin and is deserving of perdition. In his essay, On The Scarlet Letter,
Lawrence critiques the way Hester Prynne is depicted through various literary
techniques, such as terse syntax, scriptural allusions, and an overall satirical tone.
The choppy and abrupt way in which Lawrence arranges and words his sentences
displays his clear opposition towards the portrayal of Hester Prynne, and serves to
directly jab at Hawthorne s delivery. Lawrence s syntax is set up in a way that is
intentionally brusque to communicate pithy criticism, in that he accentuates certain
words and phrases to represent Hester as an adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A.
America. The Scarlet Letter (Lawrence). These compendious, single worded remarks
are blunt attacks at Hester s character. Hawthorne s depiction of Hester is challenged
with these direct jabs and labels, and Lawrence is able to articulate his evaluation of
the character through this sharp, emphatic syntax. Further denouncing Hawthorne s
characterization of Hester, Lawrence describes Hester s sinful nature as the human
spirit, fixed in a lie, adhering to a lie, giving itself perpetually the lie (Lawrence).
Again, through choppy and accented syntax, Lawrence highlights the
Matilda Joslyn Gage On Women s Suffrage
In the late 19th century, woman s suffrage was an extreme idea usually promoted
by outspoken people on the outside of polite society. The beginning of the
movement was weak and fragile, with supporters trying their best to push woman s
suffrage into the spotlight and onto the main party platforms. The movement could
not afford to have supporters more volatile than the already radical idea of allowing
woman the vote. In an effort to push support for woman s suffrage in the 1880s, the
National Woman s Suffrage Association (NWSA) decided that they needed to
portray themselves and their supporters as respectable and honorable women.

While the three types are not designated to a specific era, they often follow a linear
path with the history of woman s suffrage and woman s rights. Examples of rights
feminists include early reformers like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Rights feminists believed that woman should be given suffrage because it was their
right as citizens. Following these woman are difference feminists, like Frances
Willard. These feminists believed that woman should be given the vote because
woman would represent different ideas and beliefs in the polls. Finally, there are
emancipation feminists who believe in the total and absolute freedom for woman.
Some feminists align clearly with one type, while others are a mixture of both, or
even change later in their lives. Matilda Joslyn Gage was a rights feminist who
believed that woman should be given their rights because off of their humanity and
that woman needed to break free from the harsh social constructions of the Christian
Churches. Gage s beliefs can clearly be seen throughout her life and inspired from her
childhood.
Matilda Joslyn Gage was born on the 24th of March 1826 to Dr. Hezekiah Joslyn and
Helen Leslie in Cicero, New York. Gage was an only child and was raised in a
reformist home. Dr. Hezekiah Gage was a well known and open supporter of
abolition and their family home was a stop on the famed Underground Railroad. Her
childhood created a lifelong passion for civil rights
Essay about Swannanoa Palace
Swannanoa Palace is a beautiful mansion that rests atop Afton Mountain in Nelson
County Virginia. It was built over an eight year time period by James Dooley as a
token of love for his wife, Sallie Dooley. The name was given to their home in
honor of Sallie s love for swans and how they choose one mate for life. Construction
of this palace was completed in 1912 with the effort of 300 artisans and two
contractors. The couple also had another home in Richmond, Virginia. This home was
formally known as Maymont . The name was derived from Sallie s maiden name
May, and the french word for hill Mont. This home was extraordinary for it s time. It
was a 12,000 square foot home that was divided into 33 rooms. The Dooley s were

It also consisted of a library, this was exceptional in it s own, not to mention the the

covered with golden fabric, it also contains a mantle with angels carved into it s
marble surface. Swannanoa was made up of 52 rooms, including the ones
mentioned above. The exterior of this palace was just as incredible as the inside.
In Rome, there is a building called the Villa Medici, from this, the contractors and
artisans created the appearance of Swannanoa. The Dooley s built their palace on
126 acres of land just above the Rockfish Gap. This home is truly astonishing,
inside and out. The history of Swannanoa is just as engaging as the palace itself.
The history of it being built is something very significant in it s history. The
construction of this palace in 1912 was marked at $2 million dollars. However,
building a house of those means today would be priced at over $20 million dollars.
Swannanoa was built over a time period of eight years. Two contractors were hired
from Waynesboro, Va Mr. Ellis and Virgil Moyer. This palace has had many
purposes throughout it s 97 years of existence. It was originally built by James
Dooley as a Summer home and a token of love for his wife. After James and Sallie
passed away, Swannanoa was sold and turned into Swannanoa Country Club, which
was abandoned when the stock market crashed. In 1948, Walter and

India s Effect On The Indian Economy
Multiplicity in Indian taxes has created complicated tax structure and has led to
increase in the administration cost. To deal with this issue, the empowered
committee of state finance ministers led by Mr. Asim Dasgupta has proposed the
need to shift to GST regime from the existing VAT structure. This paper tries to
analyze the impact of the proposed reform in the indirect taxsystem and whether it
will boost the Indian economy by improving Tax to GDP ratio.
Introduction:
Direct as well as indirect taxes both form a major part of revenues to the
Government. With India s tax to GDP ratio just under 15% as reported by Moody
s, it is a sign of worry for an emerging market like India. One of the main reasons
behind India s poor performance is the presence of highly inefficient indirect tax
structure.
To rationalise the tax structure and to remove inefficiency in the taxation system,
VAT was implemented by central government in the year 2005. It was then seen as
a major improvement over the pre existing Central excise duty at the national level
and Sales tax at the state level. But over the years, various tax leakages have been
discovered in the VAT system as a result of which contribution of indirect taxes to the
GDP has declined. (See Exhibit 1) Implementation of Dual GST is seen as an ultimate
indirect tax reform which will boost the country s economic structure.
Shift from VAT to GST
The multi layered indirect tax levied both at the Central and State level in India is
ELL Reflective Essay
Implementing reading, speaking, and writing instruction for ELLs is in secondary
classrooms is essential as these students face many challenges when entering the
classroom. Student s such as Luisa in our case study, must gain fluency in English
while also learning grade level content in several academic areas. As such, a sheltered
instruction model which integrates core academic courses with specially designed
academic instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies and an intense focus on language
development demonstrate best practice for these students. As Luisa s teacher, it will
be important for me to frequently assess Luisa to determine gaps in content area

To address Luisa s speaking in academic and social contexts, the English class must
provide Luisa with consistent opportunities to hear English being spoken fluently. To
promote fluent speaking in a second language, interaction is also key to learning.
During the time when the ELL student is unable or limited in producing language, the
instructor must create an environment where the ELL is able to build receptive
language through repetition, gestures, and choral reading. One strategy to assist in
developing the speaking component for Luisa is Scripting. Scripting is a strategy that
prepares the ELL with sample language interactions or situational dialogues
appropriate for upcoming events. These dialogues are known as scripts and they are
presented and practiced with the ELL prior to the student encountering the situation
in which the script will be used. The use of Scripting will complement the English
class structure and the nature of the academic content as the class inherently focus on
the productive and receptive language skills. As students encounter literature and
poetry, the teacher can easily model fluent English during

  • 2. Icarus By Christine Hemp In the poem Icarus , Christine suggests that disaffection even affects those that are close to one another, even when expectations are soaring. The poet frames her text around the planning of Daedalus schemes to escape the labyrinth, but rather than being happy and proud, Icarus feels as if he was dead weight, and urges to be something that would be of help of others with the attitude of bound by the string connecting father and son, invisible thread I tried years to untie. I ached to be a good for something on my own. (Lines 13 15) This metaphor conveys that Icaruseven as a son, wants to stop being connected with his dad and tries to untie their father and son bond. But as trying to untie and successfully unravel it, but as soon as he escapes those threads , something unfortunate was bound to happen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poor Daedalus, his mouth O an below, his hands outstretched to catch the rain of wax. He still doesn t know. (Line 20 25) This metaphor shows that Icarus in fact, disobeyed and ignored his father s rules with the wings. He uses drunk to compare that in fact when someone is drunk, they are usually an alcoholic, free with any amount of alcohol. But as soon as he is free , something bad was bound to pop up. Christine Hemp explains as the wax melts, he realizes that he was in trouble and spots his father with his mouth open and says He still doesn t know , showing that for a fact, he never exhibited affection to his dad and never concerned himself, but Daedalus in fact, only cared for the wings themselves because he was only collecting the wings, not noticing
  • 3. An Analysis Of Poetry Explication In One Art Poetry Explication Essay One Art In the villanelle One Art written by Elizabeth Bishop, the poem dramatizes the conflict between the speaker wanting to let go of the things that she has lost, but has a hard time doing so. This poem is worded in a way and tone that gives a heartbreaking effect to the reader as the speaker discusses what she has lost and how [t]he art of losing isn t hard to master (Line 1, and also others). As the poem progresses, it is revealed that the speaker is unsure about letting go and has a challenging time with it. The persona who Elizabeth Bishop presents in the poem On Art brings to the reader the idea that [t]he art of losing isn t hard to master (1). Trying to not to miss these things, she goes on to express how so many things seem filled with the intent/ to be lost (2 3). Things were made to be lost, which from a reader s point of view can be compared to how humans are made to eventually die. As the speaker continues, she explains what some of the things that she has lost are. These include; lost door keys, wasting time away, places she wished to visit, her dreams, people, her mother s watch, places she s been, and finally, you (16), whom the speaker is telling this all to. This poem expresses the idea that things lost are often times hard to let go of, even when it does not seem the case. Though the poem states throughout the first 5 out of 6 stanzas, [t]he art of losing isn t hard to master (1), by the 6th stanza, the reader can see that the persona whom the poet has created starts to doubt and question herself. This is shown through the use of changing the specific poem form. The last stanza has 4 lines as the rest have only 3. The poet consciously bended the rules of a villanelle poem to give a certain effect of heartbreak and change. This allows the reader to understand how the speaker realizes that she is having a harder time moving on from what she had hoped to master, the art to not feel sorry for herself when things become lost. This is shown when the repetitive line now becomes the art of losing s not too hard to master/ though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster (18 19). It is not made clear the exact speaker of the poem. The

  • 5. Okonkwo s Society According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the definition of primitive as an adjective is: belonging to, or seeming to come from an early time in the very ancient past. As well as not having a written language, advanced technology, etc. However, the second part of this definition is: having very simple and basic way in what is not modern and that does not show much skill. This is the part that has lead me to take the stance on not classifying the people of Okonkwo s society as primitive. The first chapter of the book focuses on Unoka, Okonkwo s father; he was seen as a lazy and wasteful man to the community. While reading the story told about Okeye, we see a sense of the modern world through the asking of the repayment of the borrowed money.

Describing it is difficult, but it smelt like comfort and childhood and all the wonderful things I love to reminisce about on cross country car rides. Realizing I have smelt, heard, or experienced something before is undoubtedly one of my favorite sensations. Weeks ago, while listening to music, the theme song to Downton Abbey suddenly began to play, reminding me of lazy Sunday nights, spent nestled next to my mother, engrossed in our favorite TV show. Once bubblegum pink flashes into view, it instantly transports me to exhilaratingly bumpy jeep rides in Arizona. When washing mint leaves to flavor unsweetened iced tea evokes a memory... There have been several times in my life where I have complained, sobbed, or screamed until my voice fizzled out. Embarrassing, awkward moments seem to follow me, and I have my share of failures; however, when I revisit my past, warmth and laughter comprise most of my standout memories. In this regard, I am most fortunate. The memories that stick with me are gentle, often needed reminders of what is truthfully important to me. Makeup, clothing, and general superfluous items habitually devour my attention. Nevertheless, my memories of this paraphernalia are always coupled with a shared experience. Shopping has only ever been exciting when I can compare clothing with my best friends. And makeup would lose a great deal of its value if I didn t smile thinking about stealing my Mom s mascara at the age of five or my friend smearing blue eye shadow on my lids when I was thirteen. To quote the recluse adventurer Chris McCandless, happiness is only real when

Without the invention of parks it would be hard to escape city life. Cities are still changing from what they used to be and how they are designed. However the future of the parks is unsure due to funding and lack of maintenance. The first idea of a park was from William Penn in 1682. He created a plan for Philadelphia to have five areas of park like land. Then James Oglethorpe had an idea in 1733 for Savannah. He established a system, where neighborhoods were revolved around a square (Schuyler, 2015). The first recorded urban park was Fairmount Gardens. It was created in 1812, in Philadelphia when they constructed their waterworks. The park first started off at five acres, surrounding the waterworks. The park had become so popular that in 1828 they expanded it to twenty eight acres. In 1850, Lemon Hill and Sedgley estates were added to Fairmount, which made the popularity of the park increase. People thought the park site was chosen because of the class of people that lived there, but that was not the case. The land was chosen because it was too elevated. Since the land was so elevated that made it too hard to build and expensive to build anything there or to build roads on that kind of land (Schuyler, 2015). Parks then became very popular in cities. These stories revolve around the customs, battles, gods, and heroes of the ancient Celts. It is said that a great deal can be learned from Irish tales about the clothing, weapons, houses, and other aspects of the material culture of the Iron Age Celts 1 and that the stories are more valuable for scholars of society than scholars of religion 2. The pig in The Tale of Macc Da Tho s Pig was so big that 40 oxen had laid across it and its stomach was enough for a meal for nine men. 4 Beside these logical impossibilities historians have also found mistakes in the historical interpretations of these stories. The research in Ronald Hutton s book The Pagan Religions of the Ancient British Isles tells of many errors in the in the references in association with the proposed time line. The archeology suggests that the earliest literature was not a window on the Iron Age but on the early Middle Ages in which it was composed. In many of the stories they speak of gathering in Halls, fighting with swords which came about in the Viking age, and riding in chariots from the Christian times 5. The real Iron Age Celts had a simpler way of living than the higher class they are portrayed to have enjoyed living in. Those who own majority of the company decide to hire mangers to make important decisions on your company. This is a general example on how shareholders run their company. Now wouldn t you rather help make decision, or be able to factor in ideas from the employees and community that has helped the business grow? If so, you might want to consider the stakeholders theory. Different stakeholders can hold varying amounts of influence and interest, within the organization. For example, consider a factory worker. Internal stakeholders are described as the managers and employees of a company. Connected stakeholders are those that are beyond the immediate boundaries of the firm, while external stakeholders are those who are outside the firm. Some would say it is rather difficult to argue the stakeholders theory because there is not as much information on the subject as there is shareholders theory. They would argue that shareholders own most corporations; and presently, corporations owned by stakeholders would be unsuccessful in the long run. There has been some debate on the legitimacy of the concept of the stakeholder, according to Friedman and Miles. The stakeholder concept has not gone unchallenged. Many have reiterated the alternative stakeholder positions. Others have challenged implications of the stakeholder concept for certain groups (Friedman and Miles 118). Friedman and Miles go on to argue how stakeholders can weaken an organization, and even alter its long term characteristics. Assume that the stakeholder concept is infallible and consider the example of the factory worker. The company is publicly owned and is located in a more economically developed country (MEDC), where it will have a weaker influence from the government when compared to government owned companies. Labor unions associated with the company will likely be strong and workers will have a higher influence than they would in a less economically developed country (LEDC) where unions are
  • 14. The Effects Of Pets On The Health And Physical Activity... It is widely believed that pets can have a positive impact on the health and physical activity levels of their owners. These three articles take a deeper look at the health effects pets have on their owners in terms of physical activity, blood pressure levels, stress levels, and risk of allergy sensitization. This study conducted by Allen, Shykoff, and Izzo evaluates the effect of social support intervention (pet ownership) in relation to stress before and while undergoing ACE inhibitor therapy. This study hypothesized that having a pet would help to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and reninresponses to psychological stress. The study had 48 participants, equally distributed between male and female, with stage II hypertensionand in a high stress profession (stockbrokers). Participants were randomized to either a control group (without pets) or an experimental group (who acquired pets subsequently). After 1 month of observation, all participants completed, at home, baseline mental stress sessions. These sessions consisted of participants doing psychologically stressful tasks while their systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR), and plasma renin activity (PRA) were measured and recorded. After the first baseline session was completed, all participants from both groups began lisinopril therapy (20 mg/d). At the same time, participants in the experimental group were also instructed to get a pet cat or dog. Six months later,

The Renaissance is best known for its art as this was the age of geniuses as Leonardo da Vinci, Petrarch, Dante, and Michelangelo (Medieval and Modern History. ,1905 ). Art of the Renaissance era utilized more realistic representations than art from the Middle Ages. For example, the human body was painted in a realistic manner, often with backdrops of nature. There was lesser emphasis placed on religious art and vanished were the images that had people positioned freely and in came proportioned groupings. Also, the progression of science helped artists recognize the idea of perspective, where items that were drawn smaller essentially looked as if they were at a distance and by using light and shadowing they were able to obtain a more factual resemblance of reality. Artist of that time, such as Leonardo da Vinci focused more on the detail of anatomy, showing more of the human form with less or no clothing. Leonardo da Vinci was one of the first artists of the renaissance period to utilized science in his artwork and learned the physical proportions of the human body. He utilized what he learned to create what he described to be the perfect human figure which he demonstrated in his art work. Two of his most popular pieces of art were the Last Supper and the Mono Lisa. Artwork of the medieval period was present across several countries, and transitioned a great deal for more than

This, in Appiah s view, is not something that we should prevent from happening because within these tiny homogenous pockets are people that long to be different therefore, by allowing contamination to occur, you allow people to shape their own lives instead of them being oppressed into a cultural homogeneity: there is no place for the enforcement of diversity by trapping people within a kind of difference they long to escape. This Act established for the first time a nationwide, federal program to protect almost the entire work force from job related death, injury and illness, (MacLaury). Occupational health and safety awareness pre dates OSHA by decades, though, and it is important to place the administration within its historical context. The Industrial Revolution in the late nineteenth century proceeded like a locomotive, without any barrier or restriction. However, working conditions became increasingly dangerous. Social and political activism spawned the labor movements that led to early occupational safety regulations. When I walked into Paul Green Theatre to watch Detroit 67 and took my seat on stage right, my first thought was this story is going to be entirely depressing. The scene was a dingy living space of a family in the 1960 s with a cold concrete floor that served as a modest barrier between the stage and audiencealong with a dimly lit single room containing a couch and a record player in the front of the stage. I could almost feel the chilly aura being emitted from the concrete floor and poorly painted, solid grey steps leading up to the stage exit. In the back of the setting was a combined kitchen, wash, and bar area. All these signs of destitution were nothing special except for one piece of the scenery that did not fit the rest. The Christmas lights that served as decor for the backstage bar area stood out to me and I figured the time took place around Christmastime. Even still, the lights could not eradicate the dreary feeling looming overhead in the dark theatre. Then, I heard the music and everything changed. Suddenly, Marvin Gaye s voice broke through my deep, somber thoughts and gave me a glimmer of hope. Fibroblasts, which are naturally found in the dermis layer, are in charge of synthesizing and secreting the components that make up the extracellular matrix. In order for the skin to heal properly, one component that is especially important is collagen, for it plays a major part in the structure of the skin. Lack of collagen synthesis during healing can lead to raised scar, resulting in poor skin function and appearance[18]. TransCyte is a temporary, bioactive synthetic covering with a similar structure to Biobrane, with an addition of fibroblasts. Like Biobrane, it is also used as covering for burn patients before autografting or for patients with partial thickness burns who do not require autografts[11][12]. TransCyte consists of two layers, a silicone outer layer and an inner nylon mesh seeded with fibroblasts. The outer silicone layer is a semipermeable membrane, containing a series of laser punched holes that allow excess fluids to be drained[13]. The inner nylon mesh membrane is coated with porcine collagen peptides, creating the base onto where the neonatal fibroblasts can be cultured, since collagen is a main component of the skin. In order to seed the fibroblasts within the nylon mesh, the entire membrane, silicone outer layer included, was placed inside a specially designed bioreactor. This bioreactor provided a continuous, constant flow of fibroblasts at a rate of about

Main Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion In 1900 in China, an underground association supported by peasants, the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fist, initiated attacks against Christians, foreigners and foreign property. They were labeled Boxers , due to their martial arts fighting style. There were three main causes of the Boxer Rebellion. The primary cause was anti foreign sentiment. China suffered a series of devastating defeats against foreign powers in the Opium wars, and the Sino War. China was forced to sign the Unequal Treaties which granted foreigners business and territorial power. A political cartoon published in a French newspaper (1898), depicts foreign world leaders carving China into a Chine pie. A Chinese mandarin looks on in disgust, yet helpless. These treaties damaged Chinese businesses, and created unemployment. The introduction of modern technology and industrialisation further disrupted the economy. According to Historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. In response the Boxers cut telegraph wires, burnt down railway stations and destroyed large sections of railroad during their rebellion. Historian Diana Preston stated in her book. Dysfunctional Family In Fences The way a family is viewed in today s time is the one of the american dream, with the white picket fence and smiling faces from both the children and the parents. Unfortunately, the curtain is pulled back to see the father three doors down with the single mother, the son is leaping out the window every night and the mother is taking too many supplements for depression while the little girl sleeps alone in the dark, crying. Not every familycan be portrayed as what they want to be. To some extent, every family has their own problems that they must deal with everyday. No matter how much white paint one coats over their fence, someone stopping by will see the cracks and uneven brush strokes on the structure that is supposedly supposed to protect them all. These types of families have children that grow up with their parents always on edge, snapping at random moments and start to believe that this is how a family is supposed to act. Then, when they leave their unstable environment, they have their own problems with the new family they created, which are inherited from the one they thought they left behind. The attachment they once had to their former life was left in loose ends and unneeded ties with no scissors available to cut them with. Dysfunctional families often have these types of dynamics and are viewed not only from personal experiences but now also are transferred into works of literature to develop the misgivings of such a family. All over the world countries run on a hierarchical system, and the people at the top establish rules and consequences to keep people in line. Those important people use objects to give power, like a crown. The same concept was also created by Ralph on the island, he attempted to create a hierarchyand essentially a governmentfor everyone on the island to stay humane, just like around the world. The novel is about power, as a result of which the boys created a small government, as well as represent power through objects. At the beginning of the novel the group of boys establish a chief of their group. They hold an election and vote for Ralph to be the main chief and for Jack to be the main hunter. Comparing both movies there are many similarities, as he showed little details in the background to give hints of what the audience should feel in the particular scene, he cleverly used the mode of mise en scГЁne to achieve this. (MediaStudiesCollection, 2012) In the scene after the Brenner s family were just been attacked by small brown birds, Melanie heard noise coming from the upstairs bedroom. As she opened the door to the room, she was surrounded and attacked by many crows. The setting of the scene show her being pushed back on the brown door creates the sense of being trapped and now where to go as well in Psycho when Marion was also pushed back to the wall of the shower, it gives a sense struggle on the audience. By using sound effects and mise en scГЁne, Hitchcock successfully creates tension in both
  • 36. Mitosis Vs Meiosis Research Paper Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell divisions that have various similarities and differences. They comparably associate with cytokinesis and form daughter cells however, meiosis occurs in primordial diploid cells in animals, plants and fungi, whilst mitosis takes place in somatic cells in every organism (Vidyasagar. A, 2015). Meiosis differs from mitosisas it undergoes a process known as DNA recombination, during which genetic material interchange with chromosomes or various regions of the same chromosome. DNA recombination is a common source of genetic variation. Mitosis is the continuous process by which the body creates new cells to repair damaged or aging membranes, fibers and tissues (Clare O Connor, 2008). The end result of mitosis are two genetically identical diploid daughter cells, which develop from the single parent cell dividing. Conversely, the meiosis cell divides into four haploid gametes each possessing half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell (Alberts. B, 2010). Fertilisation occurs when the two female and male gametes fuse, causing a diploid cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, a paradigm is a framework containing the basic assumptions, ways of thinking, and methodology that are commonly accepted by members of a scientific community. However, in part to the oscillating nature of alternating current, the diode output of direct current will be relatively choppy, since electrons can only move towards the electron holes in the P type semiconductor (Kuphaldt). As a result of the choppy nature of the direct current output, a capacitor is used to smooth the electron fluxes (Copello). A capacitor is an electrical component that stores charge. In its most basic form, a capacitor is made up of two metal plates with an insulated layer between them ( Capacitors ). As the electrons flow into the capacitor, their concentration and charge builds up on one plate. Additionally, due to the repulsive nature of electrons, the buildup of electrons on one plate will push the electrons from the other plate, creating a current out of the capacitor ( Capacitors ). This makes one plate positively charged and the other negatively charged. At this point, the capacitor is storing energy. So, the capacitor smooths the fluctuating direct current by slowly releasing its charge between input spikes ( Capacitors ). This generates a more consistent flow of direct current to the electric grids. Another primary component of the Farnsworth Fusor is its two concentric electrical grids. Toys Should Not Be Gender Biased Essay Raise boys and girls the same way, a phrase originally said by neo conceptual artist Jenny Holzer, that urges parents as well as people to raise children without a heavy influence of gender stereotypes and let the child discover how they want to represent themselves. A large divide between little boys and girls is shown in the toy industry. The retail chain Target recognized the influence of the genderbias toys and the impact they have on children and parents and began neutralizing labels within the toy department. Toys should not be gender biased because gender stereotyping has wavered back and forth over the past fifty years. Gender biased toys can have an impact on a child s development, and the unnecessary labeling of toys has sparked a cultural shift in society. The battle between the marketing of gender bias toys and stereotypes dates back to the 1950s. Girls were given toys which reflected the life of the homemaker women at the time and boys were influenced by army toys to become tough men. However, society grew out of these norms by the 1970s, according to Elizabeth Sweet, a sociologist studying children and gender equality at the University of California, nearly 70 percent of toys had no gender specific labels at all (Robb). To deal with this issue, the empowered committee of state finance ministers led by Mr. Asim Dasgupta has proposed the need to shift to GST regime from the existing VAT structure. This paper tries to analyze the impact of the proposed reform in the indirect taxsystem and whether it will boost the Indian economy by improving Tax to GDP ratio. Introduction: Direct as well as indirect taxes both form a major part of revenues to the Government. With India s tax to GDP ratio just under 15% as reported by Moody s, it is a sign of worry for an emerging market like India. One of the main reasons behind India s poor performance is the presence of highly inefficient indirect tax structure. To rationalise the tax structure and to remove inefficiency in the taxation system, VAT was implemented by central government in the year 2005. It was then seen as a major improvement over the pre existing Central excise duty at the national level and Sales tax at the state level. But over the years, various tax leakages have been discovered in the VAT system as a result of which contribution of indirect taxes to the GDP has declined. (See Exhibit 1) Implementation of Dual GST is seen as an ultimate indirect tax reform which will boost the country s economic structure.
