2. Dealing With Suicidal Ideations
Working with a client who reports suicidal ideations can come in different forms, but can
potentially lead to a crisis if left unaddressed. Monaghan and Harris (2015) discussed suicide
intervention from the beginning of a therapeutic relationship by building a working and trusting
relationship, collaborating with the client, conducting regular risk assessments, involving social
support, and establishing a specific intervention style. There are three specific intervention styles
were reported by Monaghan and Harris (2015): solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral
therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. Solution focused therapy helps the client focus on the
solution rather than the problem, strengths rather than weaknesses, and the positives instead of the
negatives. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the clients alter their way of thinking about their
situation with the goal of altering the client s feelings and behaviors. Dialectical behavior therapy
challenges dysfunctional behaviors to help the clients change patterns of behaviors that are not...

5. Flat Irons-Personal Narrative
One summer ago, I discovered the truth behind the old saying, Forever doesn t last too long these
days. I felt as if forever had been cut short like the strands of life were by the Furies.
I remember it like it was yesterday I had just bought a new flat iron. We were walking through
the outlet mall in Orlando, Florida. Lost and confused by all the hustle and bustle of it, I tried to
remain optimistic. I always try to steer clear of the booths in the middle of a mall as the
salespeople are incorrigibly relentless. Suddenly, I was seized by an Italian speaking woman.
Immediately, she hauled me to her booth, and I could not escape. For fear of us leaving, she
forcefully seated me. Consequently, my family was forced to follow and participate. ... Show more

because the flat iron would not turn on. I tried everything I could imagine. I cursed the Italian
saleswoman, and the creators of the Royale for filling my innocent mind with lies about a better
future. I was about to give up on life when I remembered I still had an old flat iron. It may not
have been new and improved, but it got the job done.
When I returned home from picture day, I immediately phoned the Royale company about the

6. Jorge Luis Borges
The Art of Being Ambiguous In his collection of short stories, Ficciones, Jorge Luis Borges uses
dreams, imagination and fantasy to establish ambiguity in his stories. With the use of juxtaposition
and symbols, Borges blends a realm of dreams and imagination into the individual s everyday
worldly experiences. Through these devices, Borges commonly blurs the line between aspects of
reality for his characters versus the constructs of his or her mind. By combining the real with the
fictitious, Borges incorporates ambiguity into his stories and introduces his readers to new
perspectives of world around them. In The South, Borges establishes ambiguity by dropping subtle
textual hints that would ultimately allow for the reader to attain... Show more content on

By juxtaposing Hladik s reality and the play he has constructed in his mind, Borges introduces
the overarching idea of how the mind constitutes for a different realm in which the dreamers and
thinkers can shape, share, and confide in. This idea is again prominent when the bullet that is
intended to kill Hladik on the day of his execution stops seconds before taking him. Borges states
that, in Hladik s mind a year would pass between the order of the fire and the discharge of the
rifle (162) as a result of God. If taken at face value, God has intervened as promised in Hladik s
dream. If the reader was to interpret this story in this manner, it is clear that events from Hladik
s dream transform and impact his reality. In which case, Borges clouds the distinction between
Hladik s reality and dreams. However, oddly enough, when Hladik requests the assistance of God
in a dream the night before, the librarian states I myself have gone blind searching for it [God]
(161), indicating that presence of God is questionable at most. If God is not yet found, He could
not have given Hladik the extra year. By incorporating these subtle hints, Borges also allows the
reader to interpret that it was solely Hladik s perception of time, rather than the intervention of God,
that allowed him another

Critical Analysis on The Scream by Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch was born on December 12 1863 in Loten Norway. He moved to Christiana, and
spent most of his childhood there. Both his mother and his oldest sister suffered from
tuberculosis and died before he reached the age of 14. At 18 he became more serious about his
art and started attending art school. Edvard finally found a release for the pain he felt from his
sister s death. In 1886 he painted The Sick Child . The painting was so emotionally charged that
it received a lot of criticism from the press and the public. However some of his artist colleagues
began to recognize his talent. The same year another tragedy struck. His father died in ... Show more

Expressionism is not an art that is based on reality of something but more on the emotion of the
thing. E.g. there is a painting of a man sitting on a chair. But in Expressionist painting the colours,
emotion and shapes would show the mans emotions to show a completely different picture and
story. This is why Expressionist art is so unique and distinctive as it can tell a whole different
story, and show so may different deep emotions and feelings in one painting. Expressionism is one
of the most popular types of art in the later 19th and the 20th centuries. It shows an individual,
impulsive, self expressionate piece of art.
Edvard Munch used a range of expressive colours like Reds, dark blues, and oranges. The sky is
filled with fiery reds and oranges. This could represent the anger, frustration in the artist life.
The ocean is filled with cold blues and greens. This could symbolise depression despair and
misery in Edvard Munch s life. There is also a whirlpool in the middle of the ocean. Where there
looks like there are a few boats are getting pulled in. I think this represents that Edvard Munch is
stuck in the middle of emotions, fury and anger or depression and misery of the loss of his family.

To begin, the footage of the police s actions towards people like Michael Brown, Kajieme Powell,
and many other cases reveal the need for the six factors to help develop and support a social
movement. First, if they want to have a successful social movement they must obtain structural
plausibility. Meaning, if they want to produce and sustain a social movement, then they should have
a base or rights and equal freedoms obtained from our Founding Fathers. The structural plausibility
is in The Bill of Rights as it gives Americans freedoms and rights equally.Second, the structural
strain in this movement is the policestereotyping people of color by placing them into demeaning

Forth, the precipitating event that prompted people to begin this movement is in videos showing
police abusing people of color without a legitimate reason. Furthermore, the increase of innocent
shootings of black people brought attention to Americans, the police, and even the President.
These shootings brought awareness and convinced others to put this serious issue to an end.
Fifth, the mobilization for action began from the community s desire for justice for what the
policemen did to many innocent black people. They started to intercede by creating protests and
bringing awareness to social media by using items such as hashtags. This showed in Michael
Brown s case when people began to organize protests called, No justice, no peace and hashtags, if
they gun me down as seen on Twitter (Complex News, 2014). People started to use social media
as their source of movement by revealing videos of the shootings and posts of the location of the
protests. Lastly, the President could not stop or silence the protesters and their voices other this

10. Observation Of Parent Infant Interaction
Observational study of parent infant interaction Infants are a special cohort of a population in
the society. Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they
start familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The
surrounding where an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary
determinant of the development of infants is the parent infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The
first bond or relation of a child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned
children. In this paper, I will analyze the parent infant interaction of a family of four members
comprising of father, mother and two daughters. The mother is a physician in the referral
hospital. The mother is a hardworking woman who is obsessed with perfection. She is
specialized in pediatrics hence aware of many developmental milestones in infants. The
youngest daughter is one and a half years old whereas the firstborn daughter is four years old.
For this assignment, an observation of the younger kid was done in the apartment where the
family lives. According to the observation, the younger child is scared of strangers based on her
reaction when carried by other people who are not part of the family. She cries a lot and seems
scared of the unfamiliar faces. She is in particular resistant to the male individuals. She is
slightly friendly to the females who carry her but remains calm. The reaction was prominent
when one family visited during the observation. The friend was a bearded young man. His hair
was frightening to the kid as she could cry loudly when being carried by him. The positive
attitude towards the female was recognized after the wife of the visiting family carried the kid.
The reaction can be related to the child s preference for gender. The behavior disturbs the mother
as she thinks this might have a negative impact on her child s sexuality. She is worried that the
kid even at her old age is more likely to have a preference for female individuals than male
individuals. Furthermore, based on the observation, the kid is highly attracted to brightly colored
patterns as opposed to dull or darker shades of colors. According to the mom,

Exploration and colonization of North and South America were ultimately not beneficial in the
15th and 16th centuries because it wiped out many cultures and did more harm than good. First of
all, the Europeans forcibly converted the Natives to Christianity. This had a great negative impact
because it resulted in the loss of native cultures. Over time, many Native American languages
started to disappear from common use and English took over. Many may argue that colonization
and exploration were important because of the Columbian Exchange that arose from it, however
diseases and the slave trade also came from the Columbian exchange. I believe that the death of

natives and they ruthlessly killed the Natives for no good reason. There could have been other
ways in which the Natives and Europeans could have interacted in order to get what both sides

Actually, the decline in power never means the decline in conflict. Suppression and punishment,
without education, can never make a country give up the use of violent in a long time. At the
same time, the pricey compensation aggravates the economic crisis during the Depression period
in those defeated countries, because their economic powers were weaken by the pricey bill. That
s the partly reason why some losing countries, especially German, accepted Fascism, since their
economy and industrial sector experienced economic depression in those years, and their
governments were too weak to stand against the expansion of Fascism. By contraries, countries
with powerful economic resources, like America, protected their democracy and government,
getting rid of dictatorship and Fascism. In the second place, the Versailles Treaty was only a result
of compromise for those victor countries, leaving none of them fully satisfied about the new world
order set by the treaty. The bad negotiation also led to the Appeasement Policy, which indulged the

In this dissertation, we focus on discovering the influence of the brand of clothing on female

A. Branding Concept
The brand for years has been used as a means to differentiate and specify the goods of one
producer of the goods of another. Ambler (1992) defines the brandas the promise of the packages of
attributes that someone buys and provides satisfaction. The attributes that make up a brand can be
real or deceitful, rational or emotional, tangible or invisible. fashion Fashion can be conceptualized
as both an object and a behavioral process fashion object refers to a specific object, such as a
specific clothing item, That is to say, dress that can have functional utility as a characteristic, but
in general the acceptance of objects occurs due to the quality that the fashion process is
characterized by the introduction of a fashionable innovation to a social system composed of
potential adopters, First object is adopted by fashion leaders, then diffused through a particular

17. Introducing Systems Theory, Marriage And Family Therapists
Introducing Systems Theory
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) in training are tasked with helping a family work through
conflict and arrive and more intimate and interdependent relationships, which can seem daunting or
maybe even terrifying. However, the interaction patterns that show up in families can find some
context and clarity for a therapist who knows systems theory. Systems theory suggests that
individuals cannot be understood in isolation from their family context because families create
relational processes and generate a sequence of interactions and behaviors in order to maintain
dynamic stability of the self regulating family system (Nichols, 2013, pp. 58 59). How does this
general systems theory help an MFT guide a family in therapy? In this paper I will take three
systems theory principles and apply them to a movie in order to demonstrate how it provides a
language and context for MFTs, thus making it an essential tool in family therapy.
I will begin with a brief synopsis of Demme s movie, Rachel Getting Married (2008), and its
primary family characters. Next I will discuss three key principles of systems theory and use the
movie characters interactions as examples for each corresponding principle. In the conclusion I will
share my learning experience in doing this assignment.

Anatomy of an Orchid Flower
Despite the astonishing diversity found in the thousands of wild species and man made hybrids,
orchid flowers show an unmistakable family resemblance. Orchid flowers are generally bilaterally
symmetrical only a single imaginary line can be drawn through a flower to create a mirror image.
A typical orchid flower has three sepals (the outer segments that protect the bud before the flower
opens), alternating with three petals. The petals and sepals may be similar or not, showy or
inconspicuous.
The middle petal, which is always opposite the column, is usually quite different from the others.

So in appealing to sex, these orchids limit their potential pollinators, which would seem to be a
reproductive disadvantage.
Despite the apparent drawback, sexual deception has evolved several times in different types of
orchids. So there must be some selective advantage, and researchers Salvatore Cozzolino and
Giovanni Scopece of the University of Naples Federico II, Steven Johnson of University of
KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and Florian Schiestl of the University of ZГјrich appear to have
figured out what it is.
Schiestl and his team observed populations of 31 orchid species with varying pollination strategies
in Italy and Western Australia. They measured the amount of pollenthat was taken from each
orchid, and the amount of pollen that made it to its intended destination another orchid of the same
species.
They found that populations of sexually deceptive orchids had higher pollen transport efficiency
than the species with multiple pollinators. In other words, a higher percentage of the pollen that
was taken from sexually deceptive orchids actually made it to another orchid of the same species.
The orchids with multiple pollinators had more pollen taken from their flowers, but more of that
pollen was lost dropped to the ground or deposited in flowers of the wrong species.
So it appears that specializing with

The idea in utilitarianism is that the moral worth of an action is determined solely by its value in

approach treats the different individuals in a society as if they were of no more importance for
ordering of society then the different stages of an individual s life are for its ordering. But a
society is composed of different and distinctly individual persons, each with its own life to lead,
goals, ambitions, points of view, desires and so on. People cannot be simply cashed out for
experience since boundaries between individuals are of far greater importance and in fact define
the very object of moral concern.
These objections were also raised by Thomas Nagel who claimed that utilitarianism treats the
desires, needs, satisfactions, and dissatisfactions of distinct persons as if they were of a super
person or one mass person [6] as well as David Gauthier who said utilitarianism supposes that
mankind is a so called super person, whose greatest satisfaction is the objective of moral action.

21. Environmentally Sustainable City Of South Australia
Environmentally sustainable city has been Adelaide City Council s priority vision and by 2012,
carbon emissions have reduced by 60%.1 A city that continues to adapt to climate change, utilizes
water and energy efficiently, maintains the natural resources wisely and reduces waste is quite a
great challenge for local council.2 However, effective strategies do help in achieving their vision.
In August 2004, Adelaide City Council and the State Government of South Australia launched a
single stage national housing competition called The Adelaide Affordable Eco Housing
Competition. The winning scheme of this competition is designed by Troppo Architects,
providing 26 apartments and a cafe as shown in Fig. 1. This eco housing is now located on the
south east corner of Whitmore Square which is just few steps away from bus stops, eateries and
markets while the free public bus service is provided within the city.3 No doubt that the normal
dwelling would integrate the basic principles of adapting human wellbeing and aesthetic pleasure
into the design but what makes ecology themed housings deserve to be focused on are their
abilities to adapt the climate while benefiting the environment with the eco features. With the aim
of reducing carbon emission in the city, the feature of installing energy efficient facilities in the
dwellings is a must for Eco housing.4 Photovoltaic panels, part of solar power system are

Orientalism
Chapter 1: The Scope of Orientalism.
Section 1: Knowing the Oriental.
At the beginning of this story, the writer Edward Said starts analyzing speeches and writings done
by two British Imperialists about Egypt in the early 20th century, with focusing on the stress
imposed by British authorities stating that they know better the Egyptian country so they have the
total right to rule it.
In other words, there were Westerns to dominate and Orientals to be dominated, which usually
means that they ll occupy their lands and control everything in it.
The reason behind the appearance of this domination was that France and Britain divided ... Show

In the beginning of this section, Said starts by stating the summary of previous two chapters.
He then distinguishes between 2 distinct forms of knowing and representing the West.
The distinction Said was building is between positivity, which is called hidden Orientalism, and
various views on the Eastern community and languages which is called clear Orientalism.
In the clear Orientalism, we can find all the changes that occurred in the Orient.
In addition to that, Orientalism presented the Orient to the West in many ways.
For years, Orientalism had explained and talked about Orient s texts, mores, traditions, civilizations
and cultures and they have been put aside because they are foreigners in Europe s eyes.
Section 2: Style, Expertise, Vision: Orientalism s Worldliness.
Researchers invented a category called Oriental for the same thing that any eastern individual could
face.
At that time, Oriental experts was not required to just understand the Orient.
Experts were also required to make the Orient act and their forces, traditions and civilizations should
be standing in the Western side.
This eventually led to the division of the Orient into two sides; The new version and the old

24. The Purpose Of The Due Process
As we learn about the due process and what it has done for the world today, we learn what it took
to achieve the goal of the due process. The Due Process is a fundamental constitutional
guarantee that all legal proceedings will be fair and that one will be given notice of the
proceedings and an opportunity to be heard before the government acts to take away one s life,
liberty, or property. Also, a constitutional guarantee that a law shall not be unreasonable arbitrary
or capricious. The due process began and developed in English of 1215 and then in American Law
as a procedural concept. It was originated in 1354 translation from Latin for the first time in history,
as the government was brought under law , since they didn t have basic... Show more content on

The Probable Cause relates to the due process as it has to do with the 4th Amendment from the
Bill of Rights. There were many incidents that happened that illustrated Probable Cause. Back in
2000, in Florida v. J. L. as a teenager was carrying a gun and allegedly, three Miami Policewere
told. The police acted illegally stated by the Supreme Court, as they did not have the correct
search warrant. In this case, since they were tipped off, they had no real evidence on how they
knew a teenager had possession of a gun. Also, there has been such acts including the Probable
Cause such as Minnesota v. Carter, 1999 and Lidster v. Illinois, 2004. The Substantive Due
Process is when the government must create fair polices and laws. The Substantive Process had
a case with Pierce v. Society of Sisters, 1925. In 1922, Oregon s voters had adopted a school
attendance law that requires all students between the ages of 8 to 16 to attend public schools. A
Roman Catholic school challenged the law, but the Supreme Court stated that it violated the 14th
Amendment s Due Process Clause. The Procedural Due Process is when the government must
employ fair procedures and methods. As we talk about the Procedural Due Process, there was a
case in 1952 between Rochin v. California. In California, Rochin was a suspected narcotics
dealer. He was jumped by deputies at his home as they found two capsules of morphine in his
room. They had to take him to the hospital to pump them out as he swallowed them so they
wouldn t know what those pills were. This shows how the deputies went about it the wrong way.

During the 19th century, change was in the air. Industrialization, involving the movement of labor
and resources away from agriculture and toward manufacturing and commercial industries, was in
progress. As a result, thousands of women were moving from the domestic life to the industrial
world. During the 19th century, the family economy was replaced by a new patriarchy which saw
women moving from the small, safe world of family workshops or home based businesses to
larger scale sweatshops and factories. Prior to these changes, career options were limited for
women. The work of a wife was often alongside her husband, running a household, farm or
plantation. Indeed, a wife herself was considered her husband s chattel, or personal... Show more

Industrial working conditions were often unsanitary and the work was dangerous to untrained
and unskilled women. The education of children decreased due to the long hours the women
had to work. Home life suffered as women were faced with the double burden of factory work
followed by domestic chores and child care. Since employment was unpredictable and pay was
low, prostitution became a way of life for lower class women. Women, considered less important
in society, had to deal with men assuming supervisory roles and receiving higher wages. Also,
the men began forming worker oppositions proposing that child and female labor should be
abolished from certain jobs. In the 1830s, America s first attempt to form a National Trades
Union was motivated in large part by working men s desire to limit competition from female
employment (Woloch 126). All of these troubles made it difficult for women to find and maintain
employment. Later in the 19th century, some women held jobs in the domestic service market
and worked as maids or nannies. Expansion in industrial and retail areas led to an increase in the
number of available white collar jobs. These jobs were filled predominately by women looking for
better pay and working conditions. Big businesses and companies began to employ women as

Amputations were very common during the civil war because there were no antibiotics and
infection was very common. Many things could result in amputations including gunshot wounds,
infections, multiple breaks in a bone, injury, etc. Chloroform was used to sedate patients before
surgery for an amputation. Most amputees would not go back into battle. Over 75% of the
amputees survived surgery, which was a lot considering that medical knowledge wasn t that
advanced since America had a mindset of warover medicine, at the time. Also, since there were so
many amputations and almost all of the surgeons could do them, doctors were nicknamed sawbones
.
This pamphlet was a guide for a surgeon to perform an amputation. As most surgeons had very little
medical training, this was completely necessary. More than 30,000 amputations were performed

FOUR
In Chapters Four and Five of A Room of One s Own,, the focus on Women Fiction shifts to a
consideration of women writers, both actual writers and ultimately one of the author s own creation.
The special interest here is one raised earlier in the work: the effect of tradition on women s writing.
Woolf believes that women are different from men both in their social history as well as inherently,
and that each of these differences has had important effects on the development of women s writing.
Women writers, this is to say, have been treated differently from men because they were women;
and this has affected how they developed.

on equal terms with men.
For women, the narrator contends, here begins the freedom of the mind, the possibility that in the
course of time one will be able to write whatever one likes. With Mrs. Behn, writing by women
cased to be a sign of folly and became an activity of practical importance. Money dignifies what is
frivolous if unpaid for she observes, and Mrs. Behn s success in the Seventeenth Century led to very
many women earning money through writing in the Eighteenth Century.
These women became the necessary forerunners of the successful women writers of the early 19th
Century: Jane Austen, the Brontes, and George Eliot.
With the 19th Century writers, one can begin to consider women s writing in a more expanded
manner as a kind of writing that has its own nature based on what it is to be a woman.
First, the narrator wonders why the early 19th century writers were all novelists despite their
apparent differences in temperament. And one answer that she gives focuses on women s common
social role.
Functioning at the heart of the family, she observes, women s training inevitably includes the
observation of character and the analysis of emotion. These are faculties women acquire
unconsciously in the course of daily activities and they are more easily put to use in a novel than
elsewhere in fiction.
Domesticity, thus, was not always a disadvantage for women.
However, she goes on to consider, to the extent that women s

Lacunae of Present Day Drug Delivery System
Some of the serious lacunae in the current drug delivery systems are as follows:
a.A reduced loading and therapeutic effect due to partial degradation of the drug before it reaches
its destination is a major concern. For example, a drug administered orally may undergo changes in
the stomach due to the action of gastric enzymes. Drugs administered through enteral routes
undergo a first pass effect, which is the term used for the hepatic metabolism of a pharmacological
agent when it is absorbed from the gut and delivered to the liver via the portal circulation. These
processes lead to premature drug loss due to drug metabolism and rapid clearance from the body.
b.A lack of targeting ability is yet another major disadvantage of many drugs. When a drug is
administered parenterally, it is distributed to all parts of the human body through the bloodstream,
rather than to the specific target organ which needs the pharmacological treatment. Biochemical and
physiological barriers of certain organs also limit drug delivery to the specified organ, like the

Ernest Hemingway grasps the intimacy and authenticity of human relationships, in his book, In Our
Time. The book consists of short stories following the lives of different individuals. Few of the
short stories include The End of Something, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot, Cat in the Rain, and The Doctor
and The Doctors Wife. Through these short stories, relationships between male and female
characters, lack meaningful intimacy. There is a disconnect amongst these couples. Hemingway
redefines intimacy and what it means. Intimacy goes beyond sex; it is a bond between individuals.
He is depicting two forms of intimacy through his characters. One form of intimacy is emotional
intimacy, which is portrayed in the male characters. The other form would be sexual intimacy.
Thus, Hemingway is changing our perception of intimacy; it is not only found in male and female
relationships, but also in friendships. The bond between the male characters is more meaningful
and stronger than the female and male relationships.
Furthermore, Hemingway explores the absence of emotional intimacy in the male and female
relationships. In The Doctor and The Doctor s Wife, the couple that is portrayed are the doctor
and his wife. The theme of isolation is prevalent in this story. For example, Aren t you going back
to work, dear? asked the doctor s wife from the room where she was lying with the blinds drawn
(Hemingway 25). From this example, it is clear that the wife is in her own room. Given another
example,

1. Differences between the structures of a relational database optimized for online transactions
versus a data warehouse optimized for processing and summarizing large amounts of data
Data Warehouse is a database which is designed to process for query and analysis rather than for
transaction processing, and it is usually contains historical data derived from transaction data, but
can include data from other sources while relational database optimized for online transaction
which includes insertions, updates and deletion.

So, these two data are very different form each other. Difference between these are as follows: *
Operational Database represent transaction while decision support data are snapshot of operational
data at a given point of time. * Both are different in transaction type and transaction volume. * The
degree of summarization in decision support data is very higher than operational data. * Decision
support data are characterized by very large amounts of data in comparison to operational data.
3. Three examples in which databases could be used to support decision making in a large
organizational environment

41. Juana s The Pearl
The impression that you get from a character may be really different from what you find out they
actually are at the end of the story. In the first chapter of The Pearl , Juana seemed to be a strong
maternal character. She seemed very brave and strong. However, as the story unfolded, her
character turned out to be weaker than she seemed to be at the start. Juana falls behind Kino s
shadow. The impression Juana gave in the beginning of the story was that she was brave and
strong. She risked her life by sucking out the scorpion s poison from Coyotito s shoulder. ...she
was like a strong man. (7; ch. 1). Reading the first few chapters, I believed that Juana was really
someone strong, someone who would have a voice. As I continued reading onto the next chapters, I
was proved completely wrong. Juana s husband Kino is the dominant person in the relationship. The
speakeralways mentioned how Juana... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end of chapters 3 and 4, I doubted my own thoughts. Juana tried convincing Kino to get rid
of the pearl. She kept telling him awful things about the pearl but he never listened to her and
refused to do what she said. Juana said,
This thing is evil...This pearl is like a sin! It will destroy us...Throw it away, Kino. Let us break it
between stones. Let us bury it and forget the place. Let us throw it back into the sea. It has brought
evil. Kino, my husband, it will destroy us...Even our son. (38 39, ch. 3)
Juana kept telling Kino about how the pearl was evil. She told him twice and you can tell she
was very emotional about it because she cried as she said those words. Kino never listened to her
and refused to obey what she told him. If Juana was really a stronger character, Kino might have
listened or at least thought about obeying her rather than immediately going against her point. I
believe that this shows how Kino is more superior to Juana, hence why I believe that she falls

42. The Impact Of The Colorado Gold Rush
If you had the opportunity to get rich off of gold, would you? Would you be willing to leave
everything you have behind to move thousands of miles across the country just for gold? In
1859, the answer for many people was yes. Word of gold found throughout Colorado spread
across the country and launched the Pike s Peak Gold Rush or also known as the Colorado Gold
Rush. There are several significant events in Colorado history that have had an influential impact
on the state we know today. The Colorado Gold Rush, in 1859, was the most significant event in
Colorado History for several reasons: the rush attracted thousands of people to our state, initiated the
miningof other resources, succored farming and ranching throughout the state, and boosted the
economy of the towns here in Colorado; these benefits of the rush continue to play a role in our
state still today. Because of the Colorado Gold Rush, people swarmed into the state with the
optimism of becoming rich. Even though many of these people were go backers, the people that
did stay assisted in the development of mining towns all throughout the state. A Pike s Peak
journalist described the flocking of people claiming thousands from the farther East swarmed into
the Missouri valley towns, and enough hardy souls crossed the Plains in the fall of 1858 to give the
newly founded towns of Auraria and Denver at the mouth of Cherry creek on the South Platte about
125 cabins, huts, and tents by Christmas. The gold rush

43. A Report On Financial Institutions
Overview:
Financial institutions continues to be challenged by the inherent risks that are associated to the loss
of customer data through the compromise of security controls. As Information Security continues to
grow, the lack of effective security controls such as authentication continues to one of the key
components leading to data breaches across all industries.
For this purpose, SecureKey contracted with a leading independent security governance, risk
management and compliance (GRC) firm Coalfire Systems, Inc., to provide a security review of
their SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution.
Given that, in the age of Internet banking, recent data breaches continue to raise security awareness.
Consequently, many financial institutions are relying on guidance provided by the Federal
Financial Institutions Examination Council ( FFIEC ), in effort to prevent the risk of identity theft
and fraudulent transactions.
Our assessment of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution considered FFIEC requirements for
authentication in an Internet Banking Environment. The objectives of our security review included:
1.An assessment of the overall design and architecture of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect
solution;
2.Technical evaluations of SecureKey s mobile and web applications authentication capabilities; and
3.Monitoring network traffic to confirm that fields which are configured for encryption do not
appear to be transmitting clear text data.

45. Buddhist Meditation Practice Essay
Over this past year I have been involved in a buddhist meditation practice, I have been through
stages of resisting, doubting, and now more accepting this practice. The buddhist meditation
practice I participated in is a controversial religion in Taiwan. Even though the religion has almost a
hundred thousand followers including celebrities and business leaders, the religionitself is still
being judged by others due to its beliefs. The leader himself, Miao Chan, used to be a stuntman
and established the religion twenty years ago. Few years later, he claimed that he has attained full
Buddhahood just like Buddha did 2600 years ago. The practice consists of meditationand buddhism
learning. On weekdays, followers attend small sessions of meditation and learn about
buddhism. On Sundays, followers go to a stadium and meditate with Miao Chan for two hours.
My mother joined the religious group one and a half year ago and invited me to meditate with
her. I was persuaded to join the group and hated it at first. I always heard that meditation is a
healthy exercise for people, so when my mother started doing it I was really happy for her. Then
it all changed once I joined her. I realized that there was not just meditations, we were also asked
to pray to Master Miao Chan. Master Miao Chan was not like any monk I see in other buddhist
group, he is relatively young and has a wife that attends all the Sunday meditation session with him.

Stress is a quantity that every human is afforded. It is how the body and mind interact in
response to a stressor. Each stressor whether in the form of a major life experiences, traumatic
events, work, school, and even exercise can be stressful. Stress of any amount makes an impact on
a persons health and behaviors. Therefore, it is important to take notice of how you manage
stressful events in your life however great or small an effect. Though everyone experiences stress in
one way or another, no two people cope with stress in the same manner. Some individuals are more
effective and recover from demanding situations quicker than others do. Consequently, the quality

For instance, the more occasions of stress there are, the perception of stress is heightened thus,
the older you are, less stress is reported whereas, more stress is reported if younger. When
comparing seniors to non seniors, t scores for hypothesis #1, the mean average for seniors
(mean=39.17) was similar to non seniors (mean=39.41) showing the seniors did not have a
significantly higher scores of perceived stress and USQ. Needless to say, the report doesn t
exactly prove all elements of the said theory to be true. How we coping with stressors aren t
limited to a biological perspective, where the genetic makeup can alter how people respond to
traumatic events, but it extends to a host of external factors such as family, friends, employment,
time, and money. (Straub, 2014, pg.157). Stressors are ever present and no one can escape them
but, the more resources you have, the more effective you are in coping with such events. All of the
external elements contribute to the socioeconomic status and it is one of the more significant
factors that affects health. I revisit the idea of psychological, behavioral, social, and biological
factors in response to health and stressful events. The influence that stress has on the totality of our
being is pretty impressive. Insomuch as in a younger individual, acute stress can potentially become
adaptive and may not inflict

China, and India faced many of the same hardships, struggles, and prejudices. Some of this
treatment of women didn t even end until present day (1920 s). In some of these civilizations
women were able to rise up somewhat in their communities but it didn t come without some kind of
interference.

The Oxford Dictionary defines the brain as an organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of
vertebrates. This part of the body has three important features. These features help the brain carries
out its functions. The three important features are the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brainstem.
The cerebrumis the large part of the brainand it helps the body performs functions that involve body
movements, emotional reactions, and the senses. The cerebrum is divided into four sections. Each
of these sections allows the cerebrum to do some of its functions. The first section of the cerebrum
is the frontal lobe and its function is to regulate emotions, speech patterns, and body motions. The
second part of the cerebrum is the parietal lobe and this part is responsible for auditory and tactile
interpretation. The third area of the cerebrum is the occipital lobe and it is responsible for visual

The Boston Massacre was an important event in U.S. history, that lead to the American
Revolution. This event brought attention to the unfair ways the British soldiers were treating the
colonists. The British were treating the colonists unfairly by taxing them and using their homes for
shelter and food. They used them for food by making them make meals for them to eat and if the
colonist was a farmer with horses they would also take the horses. I will talk about the famous
lawyer John Adams and other events that happened in the Boston Massacre. On the evening of
March 5, 1770, a group of kids came up to a British soldier. The soldier was alone so the kids

There were two separate trials, one for Captain Preston and one for the soldiers. The first one
started about one month after the massacre, the second one started on November 27, 1770. If
you don t know who Captain Preston is, he is the captain of the group of soldiers. Some people
say that he was the one that told the soldiers to fire. It even shows him raising his hand to fire in
Paul Revere s engraving. It is not certain that, this is what happened because there is no other
proof but the engraving. From what I have heard Captain Preston was telling the soldiers not to
fire. Before the Boston Massacre s name became common it was called The Bloody Massacre on
King Street. This name is on the famous Paul Revere engraving. In the early 1800s it was also
called the State Street Massacre. If you don t know what a massacre is, it is a massive killing.
Even though the Boston Massacre wasn t a massive killing it was still called a massacre,
because it was a big deal. Paul Revere is the man who made the famous engraving. It is not
certain that he was at the massacre, but some think that he was. I think that he was there, because
if he wasn t there then how did he make the engraving. I can see where people can think that he
wasn t there though. He could have just drawn the people and put the background of the scene on
the engraving. The Boston Massacre is one of my favorite events in history. I like the mystery in

In the Discovery Education video about sea invertebrates, there were many similarities and
differences that make each of the invertebrates unique. Each of the invertebrates had different
forms of achieving nutrients and sourcing their food. In addition to finding different sources of
food, they also have different growth and reproductive rates and styles and how they respond to
their environment also depends on their environment and their physical abilities they have as a
species. One of the most essential keys to maintaining life is sourcing ways to obtain nutrients.
Like many other marine invertebrates, both the Krill and Diablo Rojo Squid come to eat at
night. The Krill prey on plankton near the top of the water, but as a result for leaving the security
of the deep sea they themselves become prey to other animals like fish. El Diablo Rojo Squid,
also swimming near the shore use the fish, lured in by the Krill, consume the fish as their main

Strategic and Financial Planning
Plans are worthless, but planning is everything (Eisenhower, 1957). Businesses that fail to plan
are very likely to fail and at best will not recognize the full spectrum of profit avenues available to
them. Strategic planning helps firms to define how they will make money in the future. Financial
planning goes further into depth using the strategic plan as a baseline and helps firms determine
their short term and long term budgets as well as the possible effectiveness of their plans. The
innovative nature of business requires firms to plan out new initiatives to determine costs they will
incur, possible profits from sales, and what kind of risk they will encounter.

Initiative s Affect on Sales
New initiatives will always have an effect on sales, such as the Nook with Barnes and Noble.
Barnes and Noble has dropped the price on the legacy Nook Color and Nook tablet due to an
extremely competitive market with both Amazon and Apple. The price cuts on the Nooks were
intended to make them more competitive with the Amazon Kindle Fire. The Nook Color now
costs $139, the 8GB Nook tablet costs $159, and the 16GB version costs $179. The new seven inch
Nook HD will start at $199, and the nine inch Nook will cost $269.
Initiative Risks and the Future
In every line of business there are associated risks. For Barnes and Noble, risks associated
initiatives can have some financial effects. The implications of these financial effects can be
minimal if the proper steps are taken initially to avoid maximum effects. Some financial
implications could include not having enough funding to complete the task at hand, unexpected
expenses, or emergency scenarios. If Barnes and Noble were to ignore initiatives intermittently,
their financial picture could have dramatic fluctuation, which could negatively impact the financial
well being. Other risks include Barnes and Noble losing out in market shares or customer base
very quickly which would negatively impact Barnes and Noble s capital. Also, Barnes and Noble
