Theme Of Colonialism In The Midnight s Children
Through the prescribed framework of magic realism, the novel allows its multitude of characters,
belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds, to appraise and originate their own versions of Indian
history, thus subverting British colonial versions of history. Magic realism becomes obligatory to
communicate the postcoloniality of India, and within its framework, the novelexplores and presents
a postcolonial history of its own. The cultural and social hybridity, along with the historical
hybridity present within the novel allows the text to exemplify the major themes of the novel and
postcoloniality itself: the formation and telling of history, self, and narratives. The novel effectively
and noticeably depicts the problems of postcoloniality and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only are these children obligatory for India s new future, but they remain a mirror for India s
future, illuminating the strengths and weaknesses of an independent India. The Midnight s
Children therefore symbolize the multiplicity and miscellany within postcolonial India.
Conclusion:
Rushdie assumes magic realism as an efficient tool to resolve the problems of post colonialism. So,
by linking and combining historical events, mythological stories and fictional narratives, Rushdie
tries to generate and convey a true picture of Indian post colonialism while the colonizers
considered India and Indians as a colossal place and people, the novel illustrates India s multiplicity
and diversity, in an effort to overturn the colonial representation of India. Midnight s Children is
therefore an attempt to evoke India. All these attempts would have been impossible without the
insertion of magic realism.

Comparison Between Hamlet And Ophelia
Tyler Russell
Mrs. Short

Hamlet Essay
The two characters I m analyzing and comparing are Hamlet and Ophelia. I m choosing these two
because they are very different, from two different families that don t like each other. But their in
love at the same time. So I feel like Hamlet and Ophelia are the best options for this essay. Hamlet
should have tried to express his love a little less so Ophelia s father wouldn t have found out about
how madly in love with her Hamlet was.
Hamlet and Ophelia were spending a lot of time together and Hamlet had told Ophelia the
affection he had for her. Ophelia didn t know how to feel about Hamlet s affection for her
because she knew how her father would feel about it. Somehow her father, Polonius, found out
about the time they were spending together and the affection Hamlet had for Ophelia. He ordered
Ophelia to spend no more time with hamlet and to not even speak to him. She said she would
obey her father s orders to stay away from Lord Hamlet .
Ophelia not talking to Hamlet really hurt Hamlet. He was very much in love with Ophelia. He
knew they there two families didn t get along but he still had a whole lot of love for her. He
wanted to marry her but deep down inside he should have known her father wasn t going to allow
them to be married. There was just something about her that he couldn t resist, he just knew that she
was the love of his life. Sometimes that s how things work out though you can t always get what
you want.in life. But you can sure try your hardest to get what you want even though in this
situation Hamlet Probably isn t getting what he wants which is Ophelia.
Ophelia is drowned (pg. 77) . Many believe that she committed suicide and drowned herself and
many also believe she actually accidentally drowned. There was a debate on whether she should
get a christian burial because of the belief that she committed suicide. The helper said I heard she
is to be giving a christian burial (pg 79) so i guess that she will be giving a christian burial but a lot
of people don t agree because of the belief that she committed suicide. Hamlet didn t like the fact
that the gravedigger was singing while he dug Ophelia s grave by saying Has this

Social Generation And Social Class
The problems of today s youth can be viewed through the lens of social generations and social class.
Social divisions and inequalities have plagued the youth. With increased challenges being faced, the
social division and inequalities between generation and within generations have continued to grow
and change the social structure of the society. The notions of generation and class help us view the
problems from varied perspectives, however both theories present their own limitations.
This social changes in the society and the affect on youth can be well understood by the concept of
social generation. While there is no universally accepted definition of Social Generation it can
broadly be understood as cohorts of people who share the same fundamental cultural, economic and
social experiences which ultimately sculpt the mentality and opportunities presented to them,
separating them from the previous generations. (Woodman Wyn, 2014) However, generations
cannot be limited to a homogenous grouping of people who are born in the same year or
generation of kin, rather more on the subjective dimension of experience .
Social Class can take up several contextual meanings, however most of the literature on social
class stems from either the Marxist or Weberian approaches. While class predominately refers to
graduation based on material conditions , (Jones, 2001) the Marxist theory views class as the
interaction and structures of political and economic power in a society,

Essay on Substance Abuse Effects on Children
For the purpose of this particular class assignment and with funding not being an
issue, this paper will seek to create a treatment/prevention program for those who
have been affected by the effects of substance abuse/addiction. Additionally, it will seek
to describe a comprehensive model for treating this population. The mission would be to
eliminate the devastating impact of substance abuse on those affected: chemically
dependent individuals, those with a history of substance abuse/misuse, families/children
and communities. The goal is to achieve and sustain abstinence for those addicted to
alcohol and other substances in order for them to develop a recovering lifestyle. Finally,

Drug Use Continuum:
Initial drug/alcohol use can be motivated by a number of factors. Such as, an
individual s inquisitiveness about the drug and it s effect, predisposition, peer pressure,
psychodynamic processes, homelessness, mental health illness and poverty. These can
all offer ample motivation for experimental or circumstantial drug use. If taken
repeatedly, a period of casual drug use often develops. Further usage associated with
more frequent drug administration, higher drug dosages, and/or the use of more effective
routes of administration (switching from intranasal to intravenous use) can lead to
intensive patterns of drug use. Continued, more sustained drug use can then produce
compulsive drug use where the substance has strong motivational properties and appears
to govern much of the individual s behavior. The most extreme case of drug use is the
final progression to addiction.
Substance use, like many human behaviors, occurs along a broad spectrum from
no use to compulsive/extremely heavy use (Abadinsky, 2011). Thus, the likelihood of an
individual experiencing problems emerging from substance use, usually increases as the
rate of use amplifies. The gamut for

Theodore Roosevelt Personality
Mister Theodore Roosevelt, a man of reputation and influence, dominion and power, superiority
and supremacy. No man embodied Manifest Destiny so exactly: winning a war, becoming a hero
and taking our country s powers to international borders. From Governor of New York, the
Presidential Seat, and beyond, Mister Theodore Rooseveltchanged from an average American to the
President of the United Statesof America, and finally to a status of legendary inspiration. His
actions paved a path for aspirants and nobodies alike, to do something and become phenomenal
beings in their own right!
Mister Theodore Roosevelt participated in the Spanish American War, which took place in Cuba.
He managed the 1st regiment of the United States Volunteer Cavalry, popularly known as the Rough
Riders. Furthermore, He succeeded in leading his regiment through battle and in capturing vantage
points, effectively pronouncing him as a hero and a source of trust.
Later in the Oval Office, Mister Theodore Roosevelt found himself against a union of striking coal
miners. From that position, Presidents usually sent the Army to quell and subdue any
demonstrators. Contrarily, Mister Theodore Roosevelt innovatively allowed for meeting and
negotiating with the strike s leaders, which, however, failed to disband the strike. Concordantly,
Mister Theodore Roosevelt called in for the Army, seized operations of the coal mine, and resumed
the efficiency of the mine. Doomed to perish if they did not change themselves

Justice And Injustice As Depicted In Plato s Republic
There are those among you who would say that I am nothing more than an old woman who has
no understanding of the law and therefore justice. However, how many of you that would look
away from the injustice we daily serve, can also say with truth that there is not a secret place in
your hearts where you know I am right. Fear of reprisal, the absence of conviction, and reliance
on continued failed representation does not show clarity of thought. The inability to recognize or
acknowledge that the Republic is in crisis shows only an allegiance to those who have placed us
here with their selfish preponderance of autocratic government. Let us now stand together as one

Did we as a people learn nothing through generations of slave revolts? Did we not hear the cries
of those who were born free only to suffer the oppression of a conquered collective? We watched
as the Provincials themselves rose against Rome, but generations did nothing and as a collective
we allowed our voices to remain silent or only whispered in support. The now silent voices of free
people from Hellenistic states who died slaves cry out. Those who died slaves in Sicily even after
the Senate passed their decree giving freedom to slaves who are allies to Rome cry out. The
voices of those who cried out during the Social War now demand to be heard as equals and again
cry out. Let us now look historically to Plato and currently to Cicero who has given us outlines of
equality among all people which we should follow. Let the natural law guide us before the self
interest of individuals destroys us. Let us not fall to tyrants who would have us believe that law
created by tyrants serves the masses. If a law cannot be applied equally to all among us, then that
law cannot be allowed to stand for all of us. Similarly, a law that protects a few cannot also
protect all that are part of us. Let us as a people embrace the notion that the natural law is a law
that dictates

The Plague of Athens Essay
The plague of Athens
The Athenian plague was an epidemic that began in the summer of 430 B.C. in Athens a year
after the Peloponnesian war in 431 B.C. It was supposed that the plague was a result of excess
number of Athenians within the city walls also known as the long walls a military strategy by
Pericles which consisted of building walls that connected the city to its port . The surplus of
Athenians led to a shortage of food, water, an absence of sewage systems, and other important
factors were said to have brought about the plague. It first appeared in the south of Egypt, Ethiopia,
Libya, and later on in the Persian Empire, and Rome before arriving in Athens . The disease

It left the population time to live in crime as they awaited death. The once valued Athenian
morals also ceased to existed in that period. The population did not bother to accomplish any of
the morally accepted laws. Meaning that since no one would ever be there to acknowledge it or
they could ever gain benefits for it, it was normal for some not to complete any. For them, it was
considered a waste of time to be morally just because they all would perish. The epidemic left the
Athenians incapable of caring for their families who were infected. In Thucydides eyes, the most
immoral act of all was the fact that they were left to die by loved ones. The plague was highly
contagious; the infected showed signs of ineffectual retching followed, producing violent spasms,
[...]externally the body was not very hot to the touch, nor pale in its appearance, but reddish, livid,
and [breaking] out into small pustules and ulcers. But internally it burned so that the patient could
not bear to have on him clothing [...] . Due to their symptoms, family members forgot all about
their traditionnal obligations and abandoned their families and friends. They basically abandoned
all of there loved ones since they were potential threats to their lives. Hence, they could only
survive if they had no contact with their loved ones or friends. The dead and infected were therefore
voluntarily neglected by their families. Consequently, the bodies

Imposing Congressional Term Limits
Imposing Congressional term limits for the members of the congress would be a terrific idea.
This is because if the Congress knows that their position in Congress is limited, they will get
things done. Mark Levin, author of The Liberty Amendment stated that no person may serve
more than 12 years as a member of congress. 12 years is enough for Congress to pass new laws.
Now if the propose law has not been approved by the other members of the Congress by the time
their term is over, then the next person that steps up can continue to pursue the law. No members
should stay longer than they are supposed to. The term limit is necessary because there are other
people in power that has been there for more than a decade. It s true that some of them

Fourth Crusade Significance
The Fourth Crusade is the most important of all the crusades as it was the final act of both the
Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. The Fourth Crusade was originally
organized to take over Muslim controlled Jerusalem, by invading through Egypt. During 1203 and
1204, Fourth crusade was divided from its intended destination of Egypt to first the Christian city
of Zara and then to the Byzantine capital of Constantinople. The crusaders established the short
lived Latin Empire and other Latin states in the Byzantine lands they conquered. Boniface, the
Marquis of Montferrat and the head of the Crusade seems to be the best figure to start with, not
because of his power over the leaders but also because of his antagonism against Constantinople

He had himself agreed to join the Fourth Crusade. Many of the Crusaders were against to attack
Zara, and others, including a force by the elder Simon de Montfort, which refused to be altogether

Frankish, and the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, includes the ancient city itself, in 1187. So, the most
important factors or parts of the Fourth Crusade is when it broke apart from its original destination
to go to Constantinople, which was already Christian Territory. Also, how the Papal church allowed
such a monstrosity such as the Crusades to happen, knowing and becoming fully aware that
whatever sins their soldiers committed, would be passed along to them as the soldier were not
aware that the Church could absolve all their sins, the Church has absolute authority and could not

Fiscal policy is much more effective at promoting economic growth than monetary policy. This is
because if using monetary policy to reduce the cost of money has no effect on the exchange rate, it
does nothing to stimulate exports and discourages imports.
Effectiveness of the Monetary Policy
Monetary policy is a more effective tool for economic stimulus than fiscal policy under a floating
exchange rate system, in other words a system in which the currencies of trading countries can
increase or decrease in value. For example attempts to stimulate economic growth by reducing the
cost of money (cutting interest rates), the resulting effects on the exchange rate reducing it against
other currencies will stimulate exports while making imports more expensive. This adds impetus to
the intended economic stimulus.
Responsible Institutions
A combination of fiscal and monetary policy is generally used to steer the economy in a desired
direction. Although governments direct fiscal policy, many countries delegate responsibility for
monetary policy to central banks. This strategy prevents governments from manipulating interest
rates for short term political advantage and promotes stability in the money supply as well as in the
price of goods.

Comparing Poems Death And Be Not Proud
Poems about
Death, Be Not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I heard a Fly buzz
when I died by Emily Dickinson all have one theme in common: death. Typically, death is
associated with negative connotations, but Death, Be Not Proud is a more cheerful tale of how death
lost its sting. Because I could not stop for Death also has a similar theme because. Like the other
two poems, I heard a Fly buzz when I died talks about an interruption of a person s death by a fly.
Death. Be Not Proud, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz when I died are
all poems revolving around the theme of death.
Death, Be Not Proud has an unusual theme compared to other poems about death. This poem talks
about God rendering death s power useless. It speaks about death positively, instead of a gateway
to Hell, it is instead a path to Heaven. At the beginning, it seems this poem is a letter taunting death,
saying that one day, death will be no more. It compares death to sleep, saying that eventually, people
will awaken for eternity. This poem has a great way of intertwining death and Christianity together
in a motivational letter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

accurate representation of the short journey s people have until

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper
Nighthawks, was painted in 1942 by Edward Hopper (1882 1967) an artist who was known as a
great master in the ranks of America realists. (Levin, Gail) Hoppers paintings were first hung in
retrospective in 1933, Hopper played host just three years later to the first major show of
surrealist art in New york. (Levin, Gail) Hopper grew up in Washington Square, and lived there
for most of his life. Hopper excelled in creating realistic pictures of clear cut, sunlit streets and
houses, often without figures. (Levin, Gail) He offers a brand of realism not bound to reality, and
the places he depicts are familiar and foreign, comfortable and disquieting, said the USA Times.
The paintingresides in the Art institute of Chicago. Nighthawks just like many of Hoppers
paintings give a feeling of loneliness, and isolation as well as a feeling of darkness due to the
dark hues. The picture leaves the viewer with thousands of words and interpretations with a third
person view of an isolated man as he sits in a small parlor and ponders. The painting was created
in 1942, which took place during the time of the great depression.
Hopper frequently chose to give his paintings discreet and dark feelings. Dark hues were used to
give a feeling of darkness contrasted with bright lights from inside the parlor. As well as using
dark hues, Hopper blends these well with the red of the building in the back round as the last of the
sunlight beams off the building. Hopper centers a man in

Nature And Nature In Coleridge s Frost At Midnight
Coleridge often explores the relationship between humanity and nature in his poetry. These two
groups are unified in his conversation poem Frost at Midnight , and allow the reader into his
internal thoughts. He meditates on comparisons by pairing the magical appearance of frost on the
windowpane to how his thoughts are in flux and reflux. Coleridge shows how the thinking of the
mindmirrors nature and how repeating patterns reveal universal aspects of poetry, thoughts, and
nature. Coleridge makes use of the repetitive patterns in nature and uses them to capture the mind s
movement. The structure of the poem uses frost as a guide. Similar to how frost propagates itself,
the poem contains organic, repeating fractal patterns with small variations within them. These
patterns exist throughout nature in honeycombs, mountains, clouds, and leaves. Furthermore, the
speaker of the poem, Coleridge, and his infant son, Hartley reflect the idea of repetition.
Repetition exists as Hartley is a replica of Coleridge as children can be seen as versions of their
parents. However, Coleridge also points out how he and his son are different as well. Coleridge
wants his son to be intimately familiar with nature, writing With tender gladness, thus to look at
thee, / And think that thou shalt learn far other lore / And in far other scenes! (lines 49 51).
Coleridge will make sure that his son will enjoy nature and not have the experience he had in the
city. The repetitive nature and movement of

Resolving Control Cost Conflict Within The St. Clair Hospital
Resolving Control Cost Conflict within The St. Clair Hospital

MHA 601: Principles of Health Care Administration
Dr. Prince Ordu
June 16, 2015
Introduction Conflict is a natural part of any work environment. What considers it healthy conflict
is how the individuals involved respond? Handling and resolving conflicts that arise in the
workplace is one of the biggest challenges managers and employees face. The consequences of
health care workers conflict are many. Patton goes on stating, At best, conflicts result in beneficial
changes in the workplace; at worst, it can impact patients lives. (Patton, 2013) By learning to
constructively resolve conflict, we can turn a potentially destructive situation into an opportunity
for creativity and enhancement for performance. Janice Frates stated, ...,having work teams at all
organizational levels openly and vigorously debate their ideas is a form of healthy conflict that
produces both stronger team relationships and better work outcomes. In regards to the St. Clair
Hospital plan for cost control, a healthy conflict did not arise.
Types of Conflict Identified Types of conflict identified throughout this particular case study would
include intrapersonal conflict and inter organizational conflict. Frates explained that intrapersonal
conflict is when the interdependence of departments within an organization can lead to conflict
which is often grounded in differing professional training and different measures

Symptoms And Treatment Of Childhood Asthma Essay
Introduction
Twenty percent of children living in the South Bronx have been diagnosed with Asthma. Bronx
children (boys and girls) living in the vicinity of Melrose, Mott Haven, and Port Morris ages 5 12
years old have a higher percentage of hospitalization than children that reside within other inner
cities in the US. Children suffering from asthma encounter a recurrent cough, wheezing, shortness
of breath and decrease response to their medication. These children often are unable to participate in
physical activities, have increased absenteeism from school, are withdrawn and have decreased self
confidence. It is important that families are educated on the appropriate preventions and treatments
for asthma in order to prevent mortality. There are a number of contributing factors in the increase
of childhood asthma; for instance, sensitization of allergens, cultural beliefs, and environmental
factors, gas and diesel emissions due to the high volume of traffic from the interstates in the
surrounding areas. Furthermore, behavioral choices made by parents and other adults are added
factors in the increase of asthma rates in children; for instance, mothers that smoke during
pregnancy create higher risk for childhood asthma. Adults who smoke in their home, also in their
car, with children present, are contributors to the increased rate of asthma. Our target population is
African American/ Hispanic children ages 5 12 who live in the South Bronx, New York with low

Neisseria Essay
Neisseria are fastidious Gram negative cocci that require nutrient supplementation to grow in
laboratory cultures. To be specific, they grow on chocolate agar with carbon dioxide. These cocci
are facultatively intracellular and typically appear in pairs (diplococci), in the shape of coffee
beans. Of the eleven species of Neisseria that colonize humans, only two are pathogens. N.
gonorrhoeae is the causative agent of gonorrhea (also called The Clap ) and is transmitted via
sexual contact.[2]
Neisseria is usually isolated on Thayer Martin agar (or VPN agar) an agar plate containing
antibiotics (vancomycin, colistin, nystatin, and trimethoprim) and nutrients that facilitate the
growth of Neisseria species while inhibiting the growth of contaminating bacteria and fungi. Further
testing to differentiate the species includes testing for oxidase (all clinically relevant Neisseria
show a positive reaction) and the carbohydrates maltose, sucrose, and glucose test in which N.
gonorrhoeae will oxidize (that is, utilize) only the glucose.
N. gonorrhoeae are non motile and possess type IV pili to adhere to surfaces. The type IV pili
operate mechanistically similar to a grappling hook. Pili extend and attach to a substrate that signals

so doing, N. gonorrhoeae is able to prevent an immune response. The host is also unable to develop

N. gonorrhoeae can also evade the immune system through a process called antigenic variation, in
which the N. gonorrhoeae bacterium is able to alter the antigenic determinants (sites where
antibodies bind) such as the Opa proteins[4] and Type IV pili[5] that adorn its surface. The many
permutations of surface proteins make it more difficult for immune cells to recognize N.

Effects Of Drm On Competition And Access
WRITING SAMPLE #1 THE EFFECTS OF DRM ON COMPETITION AND ACCESS TO
KNOWLEDGE IN THE E BOOK MARKET
It is no overstatement that the boom in digital reading has revolutionized the book industry.
Although ideas about electronic libraries date back to the 1970 s, the market took off in 2007
with the launch of the Sony Reader and the Kindle. In 2013, e books already accounted for a
quarter of adult trade sales, bringing in $1.3 billion in revenue. This rapid growth can be
attributed to how portable and convenient e books are, as well as the utility of features like built
in dictionaries. Moreover, e books offer benefits in the form of greater accessibility and lower
prices. They usually cost 30% less than physical books, and public domain books can be found for
free on platforms such as Project Gutenberg. At the same time, e books also eliminate geographical
barriers with Internet access, the same book can be acquired by someone in London or in Bogota
and downloaded in a matter of seconds. Ultimately, these benefits are more than mere conveniences
they serve as important tools for disseminating information and spreading education.
Still, one factor undermines e books potential to promote access to knowledge: the use of digital
rights management (DRM). DRM is a technological lock that permits copyright owners to enforce
their rights by controlling what users can do with digital files. For example, DRM can be used to
limit when, where, for how many times, and for how long a

Thyroid Gland ( Tg )
Introduction
Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main
function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer,
2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human
TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical
reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4
and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of
iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active
hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body.
Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted
hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function.
Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on
the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common
and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and
hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported
in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur.
It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid

Ocean Running Like A River Round A Perfectly Circular Earth
I cannot help laughing at the absurdity of all the map makers...who show Ocean running like a
river round a perfectly circular earth, with Asia and Europe of the same size...the proper notion of
the size and shape of these two continents. Persian territory extends southward to the Red Sea, as it
is called; north of them are the Medes, then the Saspires, then the Cholchians, who go as far as the
northern sea, where the mouth of the Phasis is. These four nations fill the area between the Black sea
and the Persian Gulf. Thence run westward two great continental promontories, one of which
stretches from the Phasis on the north along the Black Sea and the Hellespont to the Mediterranean
at the Sigeum in the Troad, and again, in the south, along the Mediterranean coast from the
Myriandic gulf, near Phoenicia, to Cape Triopium...Such is Asiafrom Persia westward; eastward,
beyond Media and the territories of the Saspires and Colchians...Asia is inhabited as far as
India...Such, then, are the shape and size of Asia Libya is part of the second branch I mentioned,
for it adjoins Egypt...but is soon broadens out, and what is known as Libya covers a very large
area. In view of what I have said, I cannot but be surprised at the method of mapping Libya, Asia,
and Europe. The three continents do, in fact differ very greatly in size Europe is as long as the
other two put together, and for breadth is not, in my opinion, even to be compared with them. As
for Libya, we know it is washed on

Each Event I Choose In The Timeline Was Accordingly Chosen
Each event I choose in the timeline was accordingly chosen for one, and one reason solely. The
reason is simple and very clear, it is because they created an image in my mind, or I remembered
them the most vividly. Within these events, I was able to paint a picture mentally as they have
created such a huge impact on me. The reason that I did it this way because I figured it would be
easier to work on something that I have a full understanding so I have less work to actually do.
Throughout history I think it is important to find one thing that you can relate to on a
psychological level instead of just memorizing the plain facts of what happened because that way

This now meant that women could no longer be denied rights based on narrow interpretations of
the law. Second, women could now continue to work for greater rights and opportunities through

chose it because as a woman i think that it is important to show at least one form of progress for
women.
Thirdly, the Great Depression was also very important to me. I found it very cool how the stock

how Canada and the rest of the world messed up bid time in history. Most of the time in historical

This is a crucial example of how the Government s mess up in Wall Street Affected everyone

The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod
Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political
debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests
that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional
ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al.
231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading,
consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be
regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments
are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat,
readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are
merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein
and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those
biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further
extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context,
bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions
rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to understand that the human mind
looks for patterns, the term for this

Social Media And Its Impact On Public Sector
Literature Review
Social media provides the voice, in other words, social network and media connect company or
organisation with its audience. Nowadays, social networking plays a significant role in any
organisation. It is much easier for private sector to be linked with the social media, rather than for
public sector. Public sector includes all organisations, which are owned or operated by the
government, and exist to provide services to citizens (PrivacySense.net, n.d.). Waste management
and recycling is one of the components of public sector.

Thus, it can be suggested for waste management company to use Twitter and Facebook as a
primary social media platforms for external communications, in order to communicate with
citizens on day to day basis and keep them updated. As for internal communications within the
company, the best is to use LinkedIn, so employees can be aware of what is going on in the
company, and build a relationship with each other. Furthermore, the term, such as Gov 2.0, has to
be mentioned. Government 2.0 (Gov 2.0) can be described as the use of information technology
(IT) to commoditise and socialise government services and processes (DiMaio, 2009). When Gov
2.0 and Web 2.0 works together, it has a positive impact on the link between public sector
organisation, government, and citizens.
The importance and purpose of social digital tools in waste management sector
Waste management and recycling services have been using the traditional tools of communication
to reach the audience, such as print advertisement, brochures and flyers. Through out the time the
way to do business and communicate with audience has changed, as the digital technology become
more advance. These changes have affected all the industry, including the waste and recycling
sector. It seems that organization within this sector have been always putting the importance of
digital technologies and opportunities of social media on the back burner. However, the

President Johnson signed a law intending to right a wrong. The wrong that Johnson wanted gone
was made through the signing of the Voting Rights Act which allowed millions of Americans of
color to be able to vote. Johnson gracefully stated, This law will ensure them the right to vote. The
wrong is one which no American, in his heart, can justify. The right is one which no American, true
to our principles, can deny.... It is not just a question of guilt, although there is that. It is that men

Maintenance of genomic integrity is crucial for cell survival in resistance to endogenous and
exogenous environmental insults to the genetic material. Multiple DNA repair pathways coordinate
the response to such genotoxins and protect our genome [1]. Endogenous insults may be generated
as a byproduct of cellular metabolism in the form of reactive oxygen species or during
physiological processes such as meiotic recombination, mating type switching in yeasts, V(D)J
recombination and DNA replication transcription collision [2 5]. Exogenous stresses include
hypoxia, radiation and dietary carcinogens [6, 7]. Depending on the nature of damage to the DNA

NER is a highly conserved DNA repair pathway that is the primary pathway responsible for the
removal of bulky DNA lesions i.e., helix distorting lesions such as UV induced photoproducts,
environmental mutagens, and some chemotherapeutic agents. NER has two distinct subtypes:
global genome repair (GG NER), which can occur anywhere in the genome and transcription
coupled repair (TC NER), which removes distorting lesions that obstruct transcription [20, 21].
Following lesion recognition, the damage containing oligonucleotide is excised from DNA by a
dual enzyme incision step mediated by ERCC1 XPF, which makes the first incision and XPG
which incises the 3 end of single/double strand junction [22]. This results in the release of lesion
containing oligonucleotide with TFIIH bound to it [23]. The gap filling step in NER relies on the
concerted action of DNA ligase and its cofactors DNA polymerases Оґ and Оµ, the sliding clamp
PCNA, the clamp loader RFC and RPA [24]. MMR is a is a highly conserved post replication repair
pathway that corrects DNA mismatches generated during DNA replication that escapes the
proofreading function of DNA polymerases thereby preventing mutations and tumorigenesis [25

Frankenstein, By Mary Shelley
In Frankenstein, nature and anatomy are linked, and through an innate reaction, these differences
are rejected. Despite the monster language skills, passion, and cognizance, society rejects him due
to his ugly form. Several differences between Frankenstein and his monstrous creation exits, but at
the same time parallels do. However, Victor is accepted by the society and the monster is rejected.
Victor s and the monster s problematic childhood, both result in their mutual destruction. The idea
of conforming to the society that rejects him seems unfit. The monster, in particular, is an outcast
from society, and the reader empathizes with his subsequent rage of being outcast. His isolation
allows for the realization that an increase of knowledge only discovered to [him] more clearly what
a wretched outcast he is (Shelley 145). Even though the novelFrankensteinfocuses on the cultural

Not Making Mistakes During The Revolutionary War
If you re not making mistakes, then you re not doing anything. I m positive that a doer makes

All a mistake does is show that you are human. What matters is what you do with your mistake.
Throughout history, great people made mistakes. During the Revolutionary War, George
Washington made many mistakes and suffered many losses as the commander of the Continental

Forensics of Blood Blood evidence is the most common, most recognized and possibly most
important evidence in the world of criminal justice. Throughout the history of violent and fatal
crimes, bloodstain evidence has recently begun to emerge as a recognized forensic skill. Blood is
one of the most significant and frequently encountered types of physical evidence associated with
forensic investigation of death and violent crime (Eckert amp; James, 11). When a violent crime
has been committed, bloodis commonly left behind at the scene of the crime. This blood evidence

After spraying luminol, in a darkened room, the luminol will react with the iron in the hemoglobin
of the blood which catalyzes the luminescence. This reaction causes the emission of a blue glow
lasting for approximately 30 seconds. Although luminol is useful in detecting small traces of blood,
there are some disadvantages to using it. One disadvantage is the sensitivity of the solution and the
blood itself. 75 years ago, luminol was introduced to the forensic field as a blood search technique.
Since its introduction, much investigation has been done to enhance the solution in order to get a
longer and more intense/brighter luminescence reaction with the blood. Besides the importance of
the pH level of the solution, most of these investigations came to the conclusion that adding more
chemicals and/or solution enhances the brightness and duration of the reaction. However, this
process also potentially damages the DNA and bloodstain pattern itself. Up till now, hardly any
investigation has been done into the enhancement of the catalyst in this reaction process: the blood
(haemoglobin) itself (Eversdijk, 12). The chemiluminescence of luminol can occasionally be
activated by compounds containing copper, bleaching chemicals, animal blood, fecal matter,
semen, and even saliva. To determine if a substance is blood, forensic investigators can perform
other tests. The Kastle Meyer test is another

The Swing Portrays by Jean-HonorГ© Fragonard
Jean HonorГ© Fragonard created The Swing in 1766 with oil paints on a 2 8.6 by 2 2 canvas. It
is located in London, England in the Wallace Collection. During the time this work was created,
France was an aristocracy and The Swing portrays a glimpse of the luxurious life of the ruling
class. King Louis XV ruled during a time when France was the most prosperous and powerful
country in all of Europe. Through the influence of Madame de Pompadour, the arts prospered
during this time. In the 18th century during King Louis reign the arts seemed to consume the
thoughts of not only the artists themselves but also the King and other wealthy and influential
members of society. This in turn resulted in neglect of the undertakings of the state, which had its
consequences. In 1789, the bloody French Revolution took place and soon after, the fall of the
monarchy. The Swing is undoubtedly the most famous of all Fragonard s compositions. It
epitomizes the Rococo style of the 18th century with tranquil colors and gentle light, exaggerated
diagonals, decorations, and nature. . The libertine Baron de St. Julien commissioned this piece. He
ordered that Fragonard paint the bishop pushing his Madame on a swing. Fragonard painted for
the baron de Saint Julien his first great masterpiece and from then on he knew that for the rest of
his life he would paint for people of wealth. He painted for many individuals including the king
because his talent was something that everyone desired. The

Analysis Of The Hermeneutical Spiral By Grant Osborne
Interaction
Researcher and author Grant Osborne composed a manuscript entitled The Hermeneutical Spiral: A
Comprehensive Introduction to Biblical Interpretation. In the manuscript, Osborne highlights a
central idea in or theme in chapter 2 by which he explicitly states his principal purpose was to cite
the importance of ancient genres as it applies to the hermeneutical value of biblical texts. He
contends the bible should not just be understood word for word in the present context as modern
day societies would see fit, but rather the bible has a framework that cannot be comprehended
through only the modern day lenses. Moreover, Osborne argues many of the books of the Bible
should not be read and understood individually as if they are separate narratives that are
completely independent of each other, but rather he contends that the books should be organized
and classified in various ways. It cannot be denied that the various books of the Bible, in many
cases, have similarities in their composition and style which would lead bible students and
scholars to study various books in a group. For example, the books of Malachi, Daniel, Matthew
and Revelations all have a semi to a heavy apocalyptic theme. They are very concerned with
eschatology, therefore, it is conceivable that one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Human Gene Therapy

Gene therapy techniques consist of several key elements. An important element, actually one of the
most important elements is the identification and cloning of the gene or genes related to the
disease, which is going to be maintained or treated by gene therapy. However, gene therapy should
not be confused with the concept of cloning. Cloning is creating another individual with essentially
the same genetic makeup. The idea of cloning an entire human is very different from gene therapy.
Next the expression and efficiency of gene transfer during gene therapy must be emphasized.
Scientists involved with gene therapy research are currently trying to discover the best rates of gene
transfer and tissue specific gene expression. Gene therapy research is still in the formative stages.
Although a number of early human clinical trials have been initiated to test important concepts that
have emerged.
The genes we inherit from our parents virtually affect every human disease. The argument for gene
therapy lies in the understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are an amazing

As many as 97% of US kids age 12 17 play video games, more than half of the 50 top selling video
games contain violence. On April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in jefferson county colorado,
two students and video game fanatics, Eric David Harris, age 18, and Dylan Bennet Klebold, age
17, executed a planned shooting rampage killing 12 other students and a teacher.
Researcher and psychiatrist Jerald Block has concluded that Harris and Klebold went on their
shooting rampage at Columbine High School after their parents took away their video games,
Block argued that they both relied on the virtual world of computer games to express their rage
and to spend time, and cutting them off in 1998 sent them into crisis. many other massacres have

was a incessant player of violent first person shooter video games, james holmes as well committed

Г’Family Structure and Feminine PersonalityГ“ she examines the development of gender identity
and personality. Except for the stereotypical examples I have given above which again are e
stablished by the parents, Chodorow states that the development of a child is basically the same
for boys and girls until the age of three. During those first three years the mother is the dominant
figure in the childГ•s life. The father plays a limited role until the child reaches the so called
Г’OedipalГ“ period (beyond age 3). It is at this stage that children begin to try to separate
themselves from the clutches of their mother and establish their own identity. Chodorow
examines how different this is for boys and girls. KFRC radio disk jockey Ron Parker recently
reported that out of a survey of one hundred fourth grade boys and one hundred fourth grade
girls, the boys receive an average weekly allowance that is approximately 50% higher than the
girls receive. On the average, the boys receive $4.18 as compared to the $2.67 paid to the girls.
To look even further, the survey reported that the boys only perform three household chores to
earn their weekly allowance whereas the girls are performing twel ve or more. Why are the girls
expected to do four times as much work around the house than the boys are?

Victor, Cornelius Agrippa, And Mary Shelly s Frankenstein...
In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, Victor, Cornelius Agrippa, and M. Waldman influenced
Victor to follow a path in life full of science and experiment. Victor influenced himself to follow a
path in life full of science and experiment. At the beginning of the book, he wrote letters to his
sister explaining his journey and what he did for the past year. He discussed what he did on the
ship. Victor wrote, I voluntarily endured cold, famine, thirst, and want of sleep:... and devoted my
nights to the study of mathematics, the theory of medicine, and those branches of physical science
from which a naval adventure might derive the great practical advantage (2 3). Victor influenced
himself to study the branches of science and mathematics. He spent many hours searching and
learning and then applying that knowledge. Cornelius Agrippa also influenced victor yo follow a
path in life full of science and experiment. Victor was explaining how he went on a trip it was a
stormy day so he spent the day indoors. He found a book written by Cornelius Agrippa and he read
it. Victor pointed out, I opened it with apathy; the theory which he attempts to demonstrate, and the
wonderful facts which he relates soon changed this feeling into enthusiasm (20). Cornelius helped
guide Victor to follow a path in life with experiments. Finally, M. Waldman influenced Victor to
follow a path in life full of science and experiment. Victor had just started college and attended
lectures from professor

  • 2. Theme Of Colonialism In The Midnight s Children Through the prescribed framework of magic realism, the novel allows its multitude of characters, belonging to diverse cultural backgrounds, to appraise and originate their own versions of Indian history, thus subverting British colonial versions of history. Magic realism becomes obligatory to communicate the postcoloniality of India, and within its framework, the novelexplores and presents a postcolonial history of its own. The cultural and social hybridity, along with the historical hybridity present within the novel allows the text to exemplify the major themes of the novel and postcoloniality itself: the formation and telling of history, self, and narratives. The novel effectively and noticeably depicts the problems of postcoloniality and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only are these children obligatory for India s new future, but they remain a mirror for India s future, illuminating the strengths and weaknesses of an independent India. The Midnight s Children therefore symbolize the multiplicity and miscellany within postcolonial India. Conclusion: Rushdie assumes magic realism as an efficient tool to resolve the problems of post colonialism. So, by linking and combining historical events, mythological stories and fictional narratives, Rushdie tries to generate and convey a true picture of Indian post colonialism while the colonizers considered India and Indians as a colossal place and people, the novel illustrates India s multiplicity and diversity, in an effort to overturn the colonial representation of India. Midnight s Children is therefore an attempt to evoke India. All these attempts would have been impossible without the insertion of magic realism. WORKS CITED: 1. Gray, Martin. • 3. Comparison Between Hamlet And Ophelia Tyler Russell Mrs. Short English 4 20 October 2017 Hamlet Essay The two characters I m analyzing and comparing are Hamlet and Ophelia. I m choosing these two because they are very different, from two different families that don t like each other. But their in love at the same time. So I feel like Hamlet and Ophelia are the best options for this essay. Hamlet should have tried to express his love a little less so Ophelia s father wouldn t have found out about how madly in love with her Hamlet was. Hamlet and Ophelia were spending a lot of time together and Hamlet had told Ophelia the affection he had for her. Ophelia didn t know how to feel about Hamlet s affection for her because she knew how her father would feel about it. Somehow her father, Polonius, found out about the time they were spending together and the affection Hamlet had for Ophelia. He ordered Ophelia to spend no more time with hamlet and to not even speak to him. She said she would obey her father s orders to stay away from Lord Hamlet . Ophelia not talking to Hamlet really hurt Hamlet. He was very much in love with Ophelia. He knew they there two families didn t get along but he still had a whole lot of love for her. He wanted to marry her but deep down inside he should have known her father wasn t going to allow them to be married. There was just something about her that he couldn t resist, he just knew that she was the love of his life. Sometimes that s how things work out though you can t always get what you want.in life. But you can sure try your hardest to get what you want even though in this situation Hamlet Probably isn t getting what he wants which is Ophelia. Ophelia is drowned (pg. 77) . Many believe that she committed suicide and drowned herself and many also believe she actually accidentally drowned. There was a debate on whether she should get a christian burial because of the belief that she committed suicide. The helper said I heard she is to be giving a christian burial (pg 79) so i guess that she will be giving a christian burial but a lot of people don t agree because of the belief that she committed suicide. Hamlet didn t like the fact that the gravedigger was singing while he dug Ophelia s grave by saying Has this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Social Generation And Social Class The problems of today s youth can be viewed through the lens of social generations and social class. Social divisions and inequalities have plagued the youth. With increased challenges being faced, the social division and inequalities between generation and within generations have continued to grow and change the social structure of the society. The notions of generation and class help us view the problems from varied perspectives, however both theories present their own limitations. This social changes in the society and the affect on youth can be well understood by the concept of social generation. While there is no universally accepted definition of Social Generation it can broadly be understood as cohorts of people who share the same fundamental cultural, economic and social experiences which ultimately sculpt the mentality and opportunities presented to them, separating them from the previous generations. (Woodman Wyn, 2014) However, generations cannot be limited to a homogenous grouping of people who are born in the same year or generation of kin, rather more on the subjective dimension of experience . Social Class can take up several contextual meanings, however most of the literature on social class stems from either the Marxist or Weberian approaches. While class predominately refers to graduation based on material conditions , (Jones, 2001) the Marxist theory views class as the interaction and structures of political and economic power in a society, ... Essay on Substance Abuse Effects on Children For the purpose of this particular class assignment and with funding not being an issue, this paper will seek to create a treatment/prevention program for those who have been affected by the effects of substance abuse/addiction. Additionally, it will seek to describe a comprehensive model for treating this population. The mission would be to eliminate the devastating impact of substance abuse on those affected: chemically dependent individuals, those with a history of substance abuse/misuse, families/children and communities. The goal is to achieve and sustain abstinence for those addicted to alcohol and other substances in order for them to develop a recovering lifestyle. Finally, this paper will attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drug Use Continuum: Initial drug/alcohol use can be motivated by a number of factors. Such as, an individual s inquisitiveness about the drug and it s effect, predisposition, peer pressure, psychodynamic processes, homelessness, mental health illness and poverty. These can all offer ample motivation for experimental or circumstantial drug use. If taken repeatedly, a period of casual drug use often develops. Further usage associated with more frequent drug administration, higher drug dosages, and/or the use of more effective routes of administration (switching from intranasal to intravenous use) can lead to intensive patterns of drug use. Continued, more sustained drug use can then produce compulsive drug use where the substance has strong motivational properties and appears to govern much of the individual s behavior. The most extreme case of drug use is the final progression to addiction.

It was supposed that the plague was a result of excess number of Athenians within the city walls also known as the long walls a military strategy by Pericles which consisted of building walls that connected the city to its port . The surplus of Athenians led to a shortage of food, water, an absence of sewage systems, and other important factors were said to have brought about the plague. The crusaders established the short lived Latin Empire and other Latin states in the Byzantine lands they conquered. These two groups are unified in his conversation poem Frost at Midnight , and allow the reader into his internal thoughts. He meditates on comparisons by pairing the magical appearance of frost on the windowpane to how his thoughts are in flux and reflux. Coleridge shows how the thinking of the mindmirrors nature and how repeating patterns reveal universal aspects of poetry, thoughts, and nature. Coleridge makes use of the repetitive patterns in nature and uses them to capture the mind s movement. The structure of the poem uses frost as a guide. Similar to how frost propagates itself, the poem contains organic, repeating fractal patterns with small variations within them. These patterns exist throughout nature in honeycombs, mountains, clouds, and leaves. Furthermore, the speaker of the poem, Coleridge, and his infant son, Hartley reflect the idea of repetition. Repetition exists as Hartley is a replica of Coleridge as children can be seen as versions of their parents. However, Coleridge also points out how he and his son are different as well. Coleridge wants his son to be intimately familiar with nature, writing With tender gladness, thus to look at thee, / And think that thou shalt learn far other lore / And in far other scenes! Bronx children (boys and girls) living in the vicinity of Melrose, Mott Haven, and Port Morris ages 5 12 years old have a higher percentage of hospitalization than children that reside within other inner cities in the US. Children suffering from asthma encounter a recurrent cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and decrease response to their medication. These children often are unable to participate in physical activities, have increased absenteeism from school, are withdrawn and have decreased self confidence. It is important that families are educated on the appropriate preventions and treatments for asthma in order to prevent mortality. There are a number of contributing factors in the increase of childhood asthma; for instance, sensitization of allergens, cultural beliefs, and environmental factors, gas and diesel emissions due to the high volume of traffic from the interstates in the surrounding areas. Furthermore, behavioral choices made by parents and other adults are added factors in the increase of asthma rates in children; for instance, mothers that smoke during pregnancy create higher risk for childhood asthma. • 22. Effects Of Drm On Competition And Access WRITING SAMPLE #1 THE EFFECTS OF DRM ON COMPETITION AND ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE IN THE E BOOK MARKET It is no overstatement that the boom in digital reading has revolutionized the book industry. Although ideas about electronic libraries date back to the 1970 s, the market took off in 2007 with the launch of the Sony Reader and the Kindle. In 2013, e books already accounted for a quarter of adult trade sales, bringing in $1.3 billion in revenue. This rapid growth can be attributed to how portable and convenient e books are, as well as the utility of features like built in dictionaries. Moreover, e books offer benefits in the form of greater accessibility and lower prices. They usually cost 30% less than physical books, and public domain books can be found for free on platforms such as Project Gutenberg. At the same time, e books also eliminate geographical barriers with Internet access, the same book can be acquired by someone in London or in Bogota and downloaded in a matter of seconds. Ultimately, these benefits are more than mere conveniences they serve as important tools for disseminating information and spreading education. Still, one factor undermines e books potential to promote access to knowledge: the use of digital rights management (DRM). • 23. Thyroid Gland ( Tg ) Introduction Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer, 2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4 and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body. Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al. 231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading, consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat, readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context, bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions rather than upon the supporting data. The importance and purpose of social digital tools in waste management sector Waste management and recycling services have been using the traditional tools of communication to reach the audience, such as print advertisement, brochures and flyers. Through out the time the way to do business and communicate with audience has changed, as the digital technology become more advance. The wrong that Johnson wanted gone was made through the signing of the Voting Rights Act which allowed millions of Americans of color to be able to vote. Johnson gracefully stated, This law will ensure them the right to vote. The wrong is one which no American, in his heart, can justify. The right is one which no American, true to our principles, can deny.... It is not just a question of guilt, although there is that. • 30. Persuasive Essay On Dyslexia of Utah there are 70 80% of people with poor reading skills, and are likely dyslexic. One in five students, or 15 20% of the population, has a language based learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common of the language based learning disabilities. Nearly the same percentage of males and females have dyslexia. Dyslexia is a disorder that most do not know they have. They think that they can t read or writingproperly, because they are not being focused or have been taught wrong. When in reality they can not comprehend due to the fact that they have a serious disorder such as dyslexia. The part that most don t understand is that, everyone 1 out of 10 people most likely know that they have dyslexia. What most fail to understand is that dyslexia is a disorder that with time, patience, and practice one can overcome. Going into the topics of dyslexia, my problems that I faced with dyslexia, and how I overcame dyslexia all together has molded me into the person I am today. To start things off dyslexia is a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that does not affect general intelligence. Most people may feel as if dyslexia is not a big deal or something that one should be worried about. When in most cases dyslexia can build or break a person physically, emotionally, and mentally. Which is why no matter what the disorder is it should be took seriously. Three reasons why are as follows: any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Dr Lab Report Introduction Maintenance of genomic integrity is crucial for cell survival in resistance to endogenous and exogenous environmental insults to the genetic material. Multiple DNA repair pathways coordinate the response to such genotoxins and protect our genome [1]. Endogenous insults may be generated as a byproduct of cellular metabolism in the form of reactive oxygen species or during physiological processes such as meiotic recombination, mating type switching in yeasts, V(D)J recombination and DNA replication transcription collision [2 5]. Exogenous stresses include hypoxia, radiation and dietary carcinogens [6, 7]. Depending on the nature of damage to the DNA structure which, may range from breaks in phosphodiester bonds such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... NER is a highly conserved DNA repair pathway that is the primary pathway responsible for the removal of bulky DNA lesions i.e., helix distorting lesions such as UV induced photoproducts, environmental mutagens, and some chemotherapeutic agents. NER has two distinct subtypes: global genome repair (GG NER), which can occur anywhere in the genome and transcription coupled repair (TC NER), which removes distorting lesions that obstruct transcription [20, 21]. Following lesion recognition, the damage containing oligonucleotide is excised from DNA by a dual enzyme incision step mediated by ERCC1 XPF, which makes the first incision and XPG which incises the 3 end of single/double strand junction [22]. This results in the release of lesion containing oligonucleotide with TFIIH bound to it [23]. The gap filling step in NER relies on the concerted action of DNA ligase and its cofactors DNA polymerases Оґ and Оµ, the sliding clamp PCNA, the clamp loader RFC and RPA [24]. MMR is a is a highly conserved post replication repair pathway that corrects DNA mismatches generated during DNA replication that escapes the proofreading function of DNA polymerases thereby preventing mutations and tumorigenesis [25 27]. MutSО± recognizes the mismatches and MutLО± forms nicks at the 3′ or 5′ end of the mismatched base that are substrates for the EXOI exonuclease that excises resulting DNA segment is excised by the EXO1 exonuclease in association with the single stranded ... • 32. Frankenstein, By Mary Shelley In Frankenstein, nature and anatomy are linked, and through an innate reaction, these differences are rejected. Despite the monster language skills, passion, and cognizance, society rejects him due to his ugly form. Several differences between Frankenstein and his monstrous creation exits, but at the same time parallels do. However, Victor is accepted by the society and the monster is rejected. Victor s and the monster s problematic childhood, both result in their mutual destruction. The idea of conforming to the society that rejects him seems unfit. The monster, in particular, is an outcast from society, and the reader empathizes with his subsequent rage of being outcast. His isolation allows for the realization that an increase of knowledge only discovered to [him] more clearly what a wretched outcast he is (Shelley 145). Even though the novelFrankensteinfocuses on the cultural struggles of society during Shelley s lifetime, the Enlightenment, an intellectual movement during the time of the novel, focuses on trying to question our own perceptions, whether it be accepting an idea or a person or a monster that is shunned and hated by all mankind ; the ideas of the Enlightenment fail to reflect on the society of Frankenstein (156). Throughout history, great people made mistakes. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington made many mistakes and suffered many losses as the commander of the Continental Army, but he still persevered nevertheless. Throughout the history of violent and fatal crimes, bloodstain evidence has recently begun to emerge as a recognized forensic skill. Blood is one of the most significant and frequently encountered types of physical evidence associated with forensic investigation of death and violent crime (Eckert amp; James, 11). When a violent crime has been committed, bloodis commonly left behind at the scene of the crime. This blood evidence allows police investigators to piece together the events of the crime. After spraying luminol, in a darkened room, the luminol will react with the iron in the hemoglobin of the blood which catalyzes the luminescence. This reaction causes the emission of a blue glow lasting for approximately 30 seconds. Although luminol is useful in detecting small traces of blood, there are some disadvantages to using it. One disadvantage is the sensitivity of the solution and the blood itself. 75 years ago, luminol was introduced to the forensic field as a blood search technique. Since its introduction, much investigation has been done to enhance the solution in order to get a longer and more intense/brighter luminescence reaction with the blood. Besides the importance of the pH level of the solution, most of these investigations came to the conclusion that adding more chemicals and/or solution enhances the brightness and duration of the reaction. However, this process also potentially damages the DNA and bloodstain pattern itself. Up till now, hardly any investigation has been done into the enhancement of the catalyst in this reaction process: the blood (haemoglobin) itself (Eversdijk, 12). The chemiluminescence of luminol can occasionally be activated by compounds containing copper, bleaching chemicals, animal blood, fecal matter, semen, and even saliva. It is located in London, England in the Wallace Collection. During the time this work was created, France was an aristocracy and The Swing portrays a glimpse of the luxurious life of the ruling class. King Louis XV ruled during a time when France was the most prosperous and powerful country in all of Europe. Through the influence of Madame de Pompadour, the arts prospered during this time. In the 18th century during King Louis reign the arts seemed to consume the thoughts of not only the artists themselves but also the King and other wealthy and influential members of society. This in turn resulted in neglect of the undertakings of the state, which had its consequences. In 1789, the bloody French Revolution took place and soon after, the fall of the monarchy. The Swing is undoubtedly the most famous of all Fragonard s compositions. It epitomizes the Rococo style of the 18th century with tranquil colors and gentle light, exaggerated diagonals, decorations, and nature. . The libertine Baron de St. Julien commissioned this piece. He ordered that Fragonard paint the bishop pushing his Madame on a swing. • 36. Analysis Of The Hermeneutical Spiral By Grant Osborne Interaction Researcher and author Grant Osborne composed a manuscript entitled The Hermeneutical Spiral: A Comprehensive Introduction to Biblical Interpretation. In the manuscript, Osborne highlights a central idea in or theme in chapter 2 by which he explicitly states his principal purpose was to cite the importance of ancient genres as it applies to the hermeneutical value of biblical texts. He contends the bible should not just be understood word for word in the present context as modern day societies would see fit, but rather the bible has a framework that cannot be comprehended through only the modern day lenses. Moreover, Osborne argues many of the books of the Bible should not be read and understood individually as if they are separate narratives that are completely independent of each other, but rather he contends that the books should be organized and classified in various ways. It cannot be denied that the various books of the Bible, in many cases, have similarities in their composition and style which would lead bible students and scholars to study various books in a group. For example, the books of Malachi, Daniel, Matthew and Revelations all have a semi to a heavy apocalyptic theme. They are very concerned with eschatology, therefore, it is conceivable that one ... An important element, actually one of the most important elements is the identification and cloning of the gene or genes related to the disease, which is going to be maintained or treated by gene therapy. However, gene therapy should not be confused with the concept of cloning. Cloning is creating another individual with essentially the same genetic makeup. The idea of cloning an entire human is very different from gene therapy. Next the expression and efficiency of gene transfer during gene therapy must be emphasized. Scientists involved with gene therapy research are currently trying to discover the best rates of gene transfer and tissue specific gene expression. Gene therapy research is still in the formative stages. Although a number of early human clinical trials have been initiated to test important concepts that have emerged. The genes we inherit from our parents virtually affect every human disease. The argument for gene therapy lies in the understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are an amazing 100,000 individual genes in the human genome. At the present time there is an international movement known as the Human Genome Project. The project will eventually provide an understanding of how each gene plays a role in human lives. The project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
