The State Song Of Kansas And The Musical Of The American West
Home on the Range, the state song of Kansas and the musical embodiment of the American West.
With its original composition dated in the early 1870 s and continued popularity around campfires
today, this song offers listeners a chance to remember the true West a land where the buffalo roam,
and the deer and the antelope play... and the skies are not cloudy all day. This song describes a
beautiful, open frontier where humanity admires nature and the two live in harmony with one
another. An area full of wild animals and natural landscapes alongside cowboys and farmers. With
this song in mind, people of the past and present may envision wilderness alongside tranquility, a
place characterized by its mutually beneficial relationship with the land. Although many envision
the 19th century American frontier as an open land full of forests, plains, buffalo, cowboys, and
Indians, the actual American frontier was a large industrial system blinded by capital that relied on
the exploitation of the natural world, technology to transform this nature into capital, and trains to
link together this vast industrial frontier. As Dr. Higley wrote the poem that became Home on the
Range, the American industrial frontier simultaneously began to render the roaming buffalo extinct.
At the same time, Americans depleted and exploited other native animals and natural lands, turning
nature into capital and paving the way for the American industrial frontier. The depletion of

Dual Language And Parent Involvement
I took three years of Spanish and I can t remember any of it, is a phrase that several students are
familiar with. Even after the multitude of worksheets, Spanish movies, and dreaded oral
assessments many students find themselves unsuccessful. However, outside of a couple high
school language classes, students are not obligated to utilize Spanish in order to complete a
grueling college entrance exam, file taxes, or acquire groceries, for we live in a predominantly
English speaking country. Conversely, Spanish speaking students are asked to undertake a task
this overwhelming and are expected to be successful. The type of program has been proven to have

constantly overwhelmed because they are in a TBE program, than they will not perform as well as
their peers. Teachers can help promote the success of their students by not using negative language,
but instead giving out encouragement and celebrating small victories. Teachers should correct
mistakes in a healthy way, not by putting down their students which decreases their students
motivation to learn. Teachers should also continually meet with students who are ESL learners to
see if they fully understood the content of the language so that the students do not fall behind and
eventually drop out. Teachers can also instill hope in their students by connecting them to
information about scholarships geared specifically toward ESL students. Students often associate
not having money to not being able to go to college; however, there are resources out there that

What behaviors are typical with these students?
How do the lessons accommodate various learners?
The class of 8th graders consists of four girls and seven boys who come from first period at

Ustas made her classroom expectations clear, but in class if students aren t obeying those she
will tell them to stop, tell them this is their first warning, or if it something worse than just
talking she will say do you want me to have to give you a check and reflect to which they will
normally stop and say no. She encourages all children to participate by preventing students from
just shouting out the answer and making them all raise their hands so everyone has time to think
about the question, or she will do the opposite and have everyone say it together. She does not cold
call students as far as I have seen. She will normally say not exactly to students incorrect answers,
but still have that student be speaking as she uses guiding questions to help their thinking and
them get to the right answer. If that still doesnt work she asks if anyone wants to help students
name out. When she gives positive feedback a lot of the times students get excited; I have
definitely heard some yes! from students to their friends as they get a problem right. When an
unplanned interruption from a student happens she shuts it down by saying their name and do not
talk while I m trying to teach in a stern voice and giving them a look. If it is an unplanned
interruption such as another teacher walking in the room she normally pauses and addresses them
to see what they need, sometimes giving the students work such as to work on problem one as she

Comparing Women In Streetcar Named Desire And Death Of A...
The Street Car Named Desire and Death of a Salesmen both have central themes that center
around the main characters of the plays revealing both playwright s unrealistic expectations of
women. The characters of the plays struggle with being their own downfall. There are also the
same place in which we can see the characters struggle. The role of Stella and Linda are both very
traditional women in that the play they the p lay the stay at home wife. Stella, In the Street Car
Named Desire is loyal to her husband. Same as in Death of a Sales Linda is very shy and
conservative around her husband. However, this can really be seen due to the type of sentence
structure and tone that is used when either character is talking to their better half. Due to both
Miller and Williams being men they depict the women to act what a man would imagine a
perfect wife would be. So, both of the playwright s characters are not realistic but a fantasy and
not an actual portray of women. In the play bot Linda and Stella are only introduced to stand by
their husbands. Both characters seem to only be present for supporting their spouses by doing all
the house chores as well as shielding them from harm. Both, characters seem to be blinded blind by

Online Privacy In The United States
The principle of freedom in the United States of America has always tied with one s private
matters. But with technology advancing at such a rapid rate, the idea of privacy might soon
become something from a fairytale. Especially included, is one s online persona. The American
government has begun to derestrict itself from the bounds of an individual s personal matters
online. In reception, many Americans feel that their natural given rights are being exploited. They
feel that the government has no justifiable reasons to be vigilating information that is not intended
for anybody s eyes except its rightful owner. However, it is truly necessary for the government to

Sometimes, in order for an individual s own safety, sacrifices have to be made. The government
has full justification to arbitrate the people s online private matters because it is necessary for
the protection of the country and its citizens. One example comes from an underground network
called the deep web . The deep web could be described as the wild west of the internet. Numerous
amounts of information are posted on the deep web where normal search engines like Google or
Bing do not show. According to Tyler Biscontini, a writer for the Salem Press, the deep web is
useful for many different reasons. It provides anonymity to anyone using it. Special software
must be downloaded in order to run the deep web. This is mainly because the deep web s main
feature is that the user s ip address is changed so that they can roam the web free of the fear of
being tracked. It also provides a significant greater amount of information that is not accessible
on a normal browser. Journalist especially, use the deep web in order to dive into research and
scouting topics for future stories. However, the deep web can also be a dangerous place. Many
individuals take advantage of its features for wrongdoing. Due to the anonymity that comes with
accessing the deep web, it is hard to track down individuals performing the crimes. Lev Grossman,
a writer for Time Magazine, describes an occurrence that happened

Essay about Consumer Appeal
Consumer Appeal
Advertisers of today have strategically combined commercials and television shows in order to sell
products. Gloria Steinem discusses a similar idea in her article, quot;Sex, Lies, and Advertising.
quot; She repeatedly demonstrates how advertisements, particularly in magazines, are
complementary to the articles around them. In the same manner, so are commercials to television
programs.
They are both aimed at the same groups or types of people, such as sex, age, gender, etc.
Many times, the time of day or day of the week a show is aired has a lot to do with the types of
viewers the program will attract. Thus, the types of commercials will also differ. On... Show more

This leaves a majority of the older crowds watching the program.
According to Gloria Steinem, the target of the television show will be the same as that of the
commercials. This proved to be true with quot;Profiler quot; and its commercials. There were a
total of twenty commercials aired. They included and Allstate Insurance ad, a number of car dealers
and promotions, chewing gum, beauty products, medicine, food, and television satellites. Most of
them had female voice overs with predominantly white actors and/or actresses. The actors and/or
actresses were also good looking, thin, and of high to medium status.
In Steinem s terms, and as mentioned by Cayo Gamber, an advertisement is generally linked to
the article, or in this case, the program. The show is seen as a quot;complementary copy quot; for
the commercials; because it included certain accessories to a person in the same life style as the
characters in the program.
The cars advertisements, in particular, were at times found in the show.
However, the other products weren t really enforced by the program. Above all, the program did
help maintain the intended target interested and tuned in to that specific channel.
The benefit of airing commercials at that specific time of

Determining The Coffee Temperature Experiment
Scenario/Problem:
Jane is a busy and forgetful person and whenever she makes a cup (250mL) of coffee she puts it
down and by the time she remembers about the coffee, the beverage is no longer at a temperature
that is considered appealing (hot).
The problem that is being investigated is how to prolong the starting temperature of the beverage
(coffee) for the longest period of time possible?
The coffee is contained within a glass beaker and is surrounded by a jacket of water that has a
different temperature that is contained in another vessel to create an effect on the coffee s
temperature.
Hypothesis:
The hypothesis is that the temperature of the coffee or fluid in the smaller beaker surrounded by

8.Operate one retort stand to grab the rubber stop of a thermometer and manoeuvre the stand so the
measuring (red) part of the thermometer is the middle of the small beaker and is not touching any
surfaces (it should be in mid air). Ensure that you are able to read the thermometer accurately. If you
are unable to read it then move the thermometer up slightly and try again. The maximum height that
the thermometer is able to go is slightly lower (1 2cm) than the 250mL marking on the beaker.
9.Use the other thermometer to measure the temperature of the jacket of water. Find a place on the
outer container that would be suitable to place the thermometer. A suitable place is an area of water
with space for the thermometer to go through without touching anything other than water. Use the
retort stand (like in Step 6) to grab the thermometer and put the thermometer head (big red bit) into
the water of the outer container.

Downtown Massillon
On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually
apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most
everyone dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who
made my night. He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a
giant fur hat. Other zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an
area that treasures local gatherings and celebrations.
The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or
so people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who
performed managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and
they looked like they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum
where the stage was waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed
Thriller again. Sadly the lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was
cringe. All the high notes sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv
screen behind them that actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers
incompetent. Weird sound effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played
along with the original audio.
I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not

There are as follow:
Creating Objects and Scenes: this task has done through defining three process. Start with
modeling process, which used specific techniques to determine the desired shapes of objects. Those
techniques include polygons technique, rectangular key (splines) technique ...etc. [5]
Then, we define the surfaces that will use in the scenes, through selecting their materials, specifying
the required features in the surfaces such as the degree of reflectivity, and applying the images.
Finally, the scenes are composed and organized through put the objects in the right position,
determine the camera angles, and other related effects. [5]
Defining Motions: in this task, we assign the needed elements such as sounds, lights, and the
used cameras as well. Besides, in motion task, we can define the positions and the movement of
these elements. For example, the lights can move from site to site to follow the characters. [5]
Rendering: this is the final task related to 3 D animation. During this task, the final result of the
animation is presented through performing all of the processes included in the create objects and
scenes task as well as those related to defining motion task. Moreover, the animation rendering
might be pre rendered or real time rendered .

Puritans And The New World Essay
Over the years, people broadcast the Puritans as a group of people who were extremely legalistic
and against anything that would be considered fun in the modern world. This incorrect broadcast of
the Puritans has led to many misconceptions about how they lived when they came to the New
World and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans were not legalistic, but rather
sought to please God by creating a society that focused on fulfilling their calling through the
institutions of family, work, education, and government in a positive environment. This led to a
fruitful society when it followed in its original intentions.
The Puritans believed that God instituted society and expected to see Christian principles prevail
within (173). The goal of the Puritans was not to be legalistic but to please the God who sent His
Son to save them from their sins. As a result, they sought to establish laws that aligned with
Christian principles. One Puritan, Thomas Cartwright, even said that the commonwealth must be
made to agree with the church [that is Christian principles]. Laws were not instituted to force action
of the citizens but sought to ensure that the citizens of the colony followed the commands of God
laid out in the Bible. While this motivation to obey the Word of God in all portions does
substantiate the claim towards legalism, a deeper study of the term legalism shows that the Puritans
were not legalistic.
According to the definition of legalism, the Puritans were

Visual Cliff Experiment Essay
Gibson Walk conducted one of the most interesting studies we learned in class. In 1960, the two
researchers conducted the Visual Cliff experiment. This study used infants and tested their
visual abilities. The researchers tested the depth perception in the infants used in the study.
They put the infants on a glass table that had a shallow side as well as a deep side, and the infant
would crawl on it. I was wondering if the mothers of these infants could have any effect on the
experiment. I wanted to know if the infants were told to crawl over by their mothers from the
shallow side of the table before the deep side of the table. I figured if the mother was on the
shallow end of the table and the infant crawled to her that they would trust the mother more and
crawl over the deep side. It turns out the mothers didn t really effect the experiment. In the
experiment, the mothers actually called them over from the deep end side of the table before they
went over to the shallow side. In 1995, Leichtman and Ceci started their study on challenging

History Of Desert Storm
In the early morning hours of January 18, 1991, the first PATRIOT missile engaged an Iraqi
ballistic missile, changing the future of United States Air Defense Artillery. Throughout the initial
days of Desert Storm, United States PATRIOT batteries defended the countries of Saudi Arabia,
Kuwait, and Israel from a barrage of Iraqi ballistic missile. This began and solidified United States
alliances with Middle Eastern countries that remain to this day. Looking at the era surrounding
Desert Storm, one can see the accelerated development of PATRIOT and US Air Defense through
failures, successes, and lessons learned. During the Iraq/ Iran War, with United States support, the
Iraqi military became the 4th largest military in the world. Prior to Desert Storm, the Iraqi
government coveted the vast oil fields of neighboring Kuwait. Iraqi soldiers crossed the Iraqi

actions. President George H.W. Bush expressed in his address to the... Show more content on

The question of how long it will take a spacecraft to reach Mars depends on where we are
because both planets are constantly orbiting the Sun. According to Space.Com, on average, it
would take around 162 days to reach Mars [3] Because the Mars and Earth is so far away, we
can expect that there are many differences among the two planets. Living on Earth is as
comfortable as it is, and so this leads us to the question as to why we would want to risk our
health, and our life to go out into space and do explorations Different people have different say
in this matter, but Fox News has generated multiple reasons why we should have human
explorations on Mars. The first and most obvious reason would be because we want more
scientific knowledge and discover more about the Mars. We were able to gain many knowledge
about the Mars through robotic explorations, but scientist and others aspiring scientist have strong
enthusiasm that humans can do a more thorough exploration on the mars. The hopes of exploring
Mars and other planets will then inspire the younger generations to become more aware and

is known that Mars is the planet that is most similar to our planet Earth, so this challenges us to

Alcohol Addiction Is The High Risk Of Relapse
Alcoholic beverages are served in many restaurants, sold in many stores, and acceptably consumed
in many populations. Although alcohol can become a drug of abuse, not many view it that way.
According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (2014), about 7.2% of adults
in the United States ages 18 and over have an alcohol use disorder. A variety of environmental and
genetic factors contribute to the development of alcohol addiction. The variability in the causes of
alcohol addiction generates variability in the response to treatment. However, what is common
among all alcohol addictions is the high risk of relapse. This risk is potentially caused by the
lasting changes in the brainthat occur when voluntary alcohol use becomes an addiction. The
neural changes that are a result of an alcohol addiction potentially put a recovered alcoholic at high
risk of relapse until these circuits can be erased and replaced with healthier circuits. Not enough is
known about the nature of alcohol addiction to provide a clear cut way to replace addiction
circuitry with healthier wiring, however, new research on the neural mechanisms of addiction are
creating a better understanding of the effects of alcoholism. This new insight is leading to
suggestions for more effective treatments. One new treatment, called cue exposure therapy, might
be a significant new development because it addresses the neural changes caused by alcohol
addiction and focuses on using conditioning to

Introduction North America has been struggling immensely since the last century with air and
water pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention
planning and industrial manifestation. Pollution is changing the atmosphere much sooner than
expected and global warming is predicted to overwhelm the atmosphere within the next half of a

Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from
carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous
contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation
from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of
greenhouse gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The
ozone layer that protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun
s excruciating rays may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy
demand of fossil fuels for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with
many other countries. Japan became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that
could bring countries together to compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is
a negotiation put together by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. Countries that formally approve
this protocol devote to decrease the amount of released greenhouse gases, or trade the number of
emissions allowed from sustaining or raising the emissions of greenhouse gases. The United States
of America was not among these countries that signed the

Family Functionalism
Finally, in The Concepts of the Family Dynamic, Ruth Wienclaw evaluates the Structural
Functionalist attitude toward the social problem of divorce. Structural Functionalism is the
paradigm that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As
Wienclaw writes, structural functionalists see divorceas a challenge, supporters of the conflict
theory find that divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic
interactionists think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks
surrounding the family (Wienclaw, 2014). She also addresses the shortcomings of the functionalist

more knowledge about how exactly divorce affects the family. However, my position on this
social problem has not wavered very much. While I do agree with most of the scholars that
addressed the issues surrounding divorce and how they affect children and single parents, I could
not find many arguments that undeniably agreed with the notion that divorce could have positive

The Moriori Research Paper
There were two groups who are the descendents of the Polynesians who are the Maori and the
Moriori who came into conflict with one another upon meeting eachother for the first time. The
Moriori people were living on the Chatham Islands which are 500 miles east of New Zealand.
They were for centuries living peacefully and independently until it all came to a brutal end for
them in December 1835. Five hundred Maori people armed wielding guns, axes, clubs along with
another 400 that arrived through ship invaded and killed off the Moriori people and announced
that they would be their slaves and that if anyone were to object them they would be killed; no
questions asked. The Moriori could have fought back in time and still defeated the Maori but

Aristotle Is A Well Renowned Philosopher That Lived And
Aristotle is a well renowned philosopher that lived and taught in Greece during the time of 350
B.C. He was a student of Plato, yet is famous for rejecting Plato s theory of forms. He was both a
prolific writer in addition to a polymath and expanded the knowledge of numerous areas of study.
He even classified a multitude of distinctions for different aspects of knowledge that are still in use
today such as mathematics and biology. Aristotle was the first to develop a formalized system of
logicwhich was based on the structure of an argument rather than its contents. Aristotle created
some 200 treatises of which only 31 survive in a manuscript format instead of how Aristotle would
lecture them to his students. He was well known for his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why are humans able to reason? It is because they have a rational soul. Then why do they have a
rational soul? It is because they are able to reason. Henceforth the argument is of circular logic. It
does however give us a classification for different categories of life which is important in Aristotle
s delvings into the sciences.
Aristotle lacked the technical and conceptual tools utilized by modern science in his endeavors to
explain why something is true instead of the statement that something it is true. Utilizing the
Aristotelian invention of syllogism, Aristotle s logic followed that if the premises for an
explanation of a phenomena is valid, as is the form, then the conclusion will be that of scientific
truth. While Aristotle erred in his findings in many of the various scientific realms, such as a
geocentric versus heliocentric solar system, his scientific application of syllogism gave way to
modern scientific empiricism which is the idea that an abstract argument must be supported by
factual evidence and for the theory to be judged by a tribunal of observation.
Given the numerous advances in technology and the human culture since 350 B.C. and Aristotle s
syllogistic view, it is possible that he could adapt to modern viewpoints by applying means of
demonstrations and scientific deduction in tandem with modern knowledge convey what modern
science currently holds as true. It is also important to know that science is ever changing,

The Hot Zone Movie Analysis
The book The Hot Zone and the movie Contagion are both about pandemics, with one a possible
pandemic and the other global. They are different because of how the media reacts to the prospect
of a pandemic, as well as how they contain or treat the potential outbreak. Both works showed how
panic can impact and contribute to the spread of the virus. The Hot Zoneand Contagion both show
the media s reaction to a potential pandemic. In the book, the media knew nothing about the
outbreak other than being mildly aware that something had happened at a monkey house in
Reston, Virginia. USAMRIID (the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious
Diseases) did everything in their power to ensure no one ascertained the truth, since they knew it
would cause panic. Scientists used back entrances to the monkey house to avoid being
photographed in racal suits. In the movie, the media knew about contaminated people, however, it
was not reported as a outbreak of a deadly virus. The media did not anticipate the virus s impact
and the associated risks. The pandemic increased, more people died, and the media realized they
had underestimated the virus. This resulted in every major media outlet being filled with news of
the virus, increases in updates,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

virus in Contagion was anticipated to have a smaller effect and therefore was underestimated

Essay On Team Work And Performance Management
Independent Contractors Team work and Performance Management
Many organizations are open to various ways of acquiring resources for their projects; using
existing employees, hiring new employees, hiring contract resources or perhaps outsource part or
the entire project. Right resources are not always available to the PM within the organization and
will often look to hire from outside. Moore (2007, p.6) informed that globalization, advances in
communication and technology, and many baby boomers entering retirement age are some of the
reasons why organizations do prefer to use independent contract resources especially for specific
projects or certain organizational challenges. A PM acquires teammembers for a project; builds and

вќ– Excluded from accessing vital project information: Despite the fact that project managers want
hired contractors to work with other team members seamlessly, they do not want them to have

they are aware they are deliberately shut off or starved of necessary information to work with. вќ–
Focussed on their personal ambitions and may not be interested in team work: Hired independent

Advantages Of Executive Compensation
Bonus plan or executive compensation is defined by Scott (2009, pg. 356) as: An executive
compensation plan is an agency contract between the firm and its managers that attempts to align
the interests of owners and managers by basing the manager s compensation on one or more
measures of the manager s performance in operating the firm Bonus contracts usually specify
manager s reward on the basis of earnings and share price. The rewards are usually under the form
of cash, shares or options. However, on the other hand, this strategy somehow pressures managers
to manipulate earnings to re ceive bonus at the end of financial year. Healey (1985) suggests that
managers adjust ment of accruals is affected by income reporting incentives of their bonus contract
and that changes in accounting procedures are associated with modification of their bonus plan.

On the other hand, manager hopes that by doing so, in the years later, earnings will be less
burdened by those expenses. How can managers afford to do so? Given their right to use
judgment, they will deliberately choose income decreasing accruals in calculating financial
numbers such as deferring revenue or accelerating write offs (Healy, 1985). Big bath strategy can
easily be excused as the practice of conservatism principle which favors recording lower earnings
if there is any doubt. Big bath usually happens at the last quarter reports, in which managers have
the clear pic ture of their operation in a year and can confirm that their companies are not going to

Drinking motives are defined as the reasons or final pathway to the consumption of alcohol
(Kuntsche, Knibbe, Gmel, Engels, 2006). Cooper (1994) had proposed four types of drinking

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. Essay
This case involves the improperly represented earnings by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. during
the fourth quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2003 and each quarter of FY 2004. The company used
improper accounting methods to avoid lowering its earnings during that period. Krispy Kreme also
fraudulently reported its earnings per share (EPS) throughout that time, which exceeded the
previously stated EPS by 1 percent. An agreement to settle the charges against Krispy Kremewas
reached on March 4, 2009 when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a cease
and desist order.
The SEC cited Krispy Kreme for three round trip transactions, which involved the company paying
money to a franchise with an understanding that the franchise would later repay the money in a
planned method. This would allow Krispy Kreme to record extra pretax income in an amount that
was nearly equal to the money that was initially paid to the franchisee. The first transaction resulted
in additional net income of $365,000 after taxes. The second resulted in overstatement of $310,000
after taxes, while the third resulted in an overstatement of $361,000 after taxes.
Further accounting anomalies were discovered during the testimony of a former sales manager at
a store in Ohio. A regional sales manager instructed that double orders would be sent out on the
last Friday and Saturday of FY 2004 to increase the sales of Krispy Kreme in the fiscal year to meet

Theme, Themes In Stanley Yelnats Holes, By Louis Sachar

Have you ever felt as if you were accident prone or if it was just pure bad luck?Well that s what
Stanley Yelnats felt since that was what actually happened in the book Holesby Louis Sachar. There
is a lot to this book, such as themes, characters, and quite a few different locations. The main theme
of this story, Holes, is growing up because, in this book Stanley learns a lot; he has a lot of
ambition, and he shows a ton of responsibility for his own actions, but also for others as well,

He takes this trait and uses it. He shows it often because in the book he learns that not all his
unlucky events are due to his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse.
Stanley shows responsibility for his own actions and at one point others actions. So, tell me
Caveman, said Mr.Sir. How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole? I stole it from your
trunk, Stanley answered.
(Sachar, 56)
This quote was chosen because Stanley says that he took the seed but really he was just
covering to make friends. Another example is when he tries to find Zero and attempts to steal
Mr.Sir s truck. In the moment he gets caught he realized that it was his fault that he got caught
and not his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse that had been set on
the family. In conclusion this book represents the theme of growing up because the main
character shows three of the characterististics of the theme I chose. These include learning,
ambition, and responsibility. Stanley learns a ton while at Camp Green Lake. He also shows lots
of ambition and displays many forms of responsibility. This book follows a great storyline, as well
as one about how the camp used to be. The story also includes many characters with different

The Ethics Of Care Framework
classroom teachers lacks significantly, especially when the child is in some inclusion classes
(Costley, 2013). Therefore, using the Ethics of Care framework, this solution would not allow Mrs.
Miller to be responsible, competent or responsive. This article demonstrates specifically the
responsiveness deficit in educational systems.
Although Ethics of Care is the most appropriate framework to use when assessing this situation,
a consequentialist may argue that this could be an acceptable solution because it provides the
greater good for the greater amount of people. Mrs. Miller will benefit her entire new class along
with her own family by bringing in a larger income. She will be able to provide her experience and
knowledge towards her new class who will most likely succeed in school and advance to high end
universities and further provide for her family. Yet, consequentialist solutions do not acknowledge
the needs of all stakeholders. The Special Education students will be at a disadvantage in the
classroom, because Ms. Smith is not fully prepared to teach them.
The decision to have Mrs. Miller teach solely the special education class does not allow her to meet
the criteria of all four elements of care. If this solution is chosen, Mrs. Miller cannot guarantee
sufficient salary to support her four children on her own. According to the Ethics of Care
framework, this would not allow her to abide by the four elements of care. She would recognize

Houston, your thread is beautifully written. Prosecuting attorneys are the governments advocate,

Another area which could be hit is that of cases which have enormous public importance, but
which need large amounts of work, are difficult to win, and may attract relatively low levels of
damages even if successful. These include some types of action against the police and
Government, such as complaints by prisoners about their treatment. The Act does address these
issues in that it provides for cases in excluded categories to be funded in exceptional
circumstances; it remains to be seen whether this will be sufficiently flexible in practice.
Another disadvantage is unfair trials. Where legal aid is refused, a trial may prove to be unfair
of one party is represented but the other is not. This is potentially a breach of Article 6 of the
European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), which guarantees the right to fair trial. In

Frq 1775 to 1830 Slavery in America
In the time period between 1775 and 1830, African Americans start to gain more freedom in the
North while the institution of slavery expanded in the South. These changes occurred due to the
existence of different point of views. The North did not need slavery and acknowledge the cons of
slavery while the South s want for slavery quickly became a need. After the American Revolution,
The North slowly started to rid itself of slavery while the South implemented slavery into their daily
lives. Slaves existed right from the start of American history and during the American Revolution.

During this time period, the treatment of slaves improved because they were treated more like
humans rather than farm animal. Some slave owners even allowed their slaves to purchase their
freedom by working for them for a certain amount of time. Some African American slaves were
not as lucky for their masters forbid them to do so (Doc F). As the North finally gets rid of all
slave activity, the South becomes more and more dependent on slave labor and more embedded
into the system. Both free and enslaved Africans were discriminated against in this time period
but responded differently towards their challenges. African Americans found ways to cope with
their situation one being religious gatherings (Doc D). They sang old traditional African songs
and danced. By doing so, they can forget about life troubles for a moment and give themselves a
sense of hope that someday they would by free. Some slaves where more violent than other and
began rebellions against their white owners. The use of rebellion was inspired to them by the
Bible and that God was pleading for their cause with earnestness and zeal (Doc G). Slaves who
caused mischief was relocated deeper south where the treatment and condition was even worse.

Social Injustice Was Rampant During Amos s Time
Social injustice was rampant during Amos s time. Not only within Israel/Judah, but also in the
foreign kingdoms around them. We are first introduced to the sins of Israel s neighbors in Amos
chapters 1 and 2, which the Lord has found unfavorable which include; crushing Gilead in a cruel
manner ( Amos,1:3 New International Version), selling communities into slavery (Amos 1:6,
1:9), murdering their brothers, killing women and their babies (Amos 1:11, 1:13), and burning
the bones of others (Amos 2:1). Then we are introduced to the sins of Israel and Judah which
include; forgetting the law (Amos 2:4), worshipping other gods (Amos 2:4), selling people into
slavery (Amos 2:6), treat those under them cruelly (Amos 2:7), and women being shared between
father and son (Amos 2:7) When you look at these two lists it is painfully evident to see that Gods
people were very similar to those around them. Already they were becoming a lot like those
around them, failing to keep themselves pure and separate. When we look at these things that the
Lord is finding issue with, we can see just how many have to do with how they are treating those
around them. By showing his disapproval of these actions, God is showing us His heart on these
matters. We can see that God not only cares about what His people are doing but How His people
are treating those around them and the way that it reflects Him and what it says about His

Eukaryotic Theory
Introns are nucleotide sequences universal amongst the Eukarya domain. Reconstructive models of
maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common
ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of
functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is
suggestive of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many
valuable roles this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To
understand their widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to
discern the evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural... Show

Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial
endosymbiosis and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a
mechanism consistent with the high levels of GpII in some О± proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly,
2005) and the ability of yeast mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic
DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996). Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the О± proteobacteria
coupled with its bacterial nature of jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and
cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the
host cell which lacked the necessary control mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the
proportion of introns in the LECA genome is considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic
lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1). Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic
ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins showed that intron positions were
conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent between all eukaryotes.
However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host. Principally, random and
aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential coding sequences within
the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist. Additionally, splicing reactions
require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the spliceosome, comprised of over
150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in which would cause broad harm to
the cell (Chorev Carmel,

Existentialism In Antigone
During the mid 20th century, French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre coined the phrase existence
precedes essence . This is a central claim of existentialism. This philosophical theory stated that
humans have no predetermined purpose and that any purpose your life has is given to it by you.
Existentialism was a popular approach during and after World War II, which was when Anouilh
wrote this version of Antigone, that led many people to abandon any belief in an ordered world.
Although Jean Anouilh isn t an existentialist, in his play, Antigone, he writes Antigone as a
character who shows many characteristics that fit with a few ideas of existentialismto represent the
indifference of the universe to human concerns.
The central idea of existentialism is that human beings define themselves. We are put into this
world without a set path that we are supposed to follow. We must create our own ambitions and
values. We have to find our own reason for living. Antigone values the innocence of untainted
beauty and has a general love for life. We see this when she talks to the nurse about where she
has been at the beginning of the play, in which she says It was beautiful. The whole world was
grey when I went out... It s like a postcard (6). You can see here that she loves nature and the
beauty of the world. When Creon tries to explain to her how to attain happiness, she responds with,

their relationship to only a romantic one . If the relationship was not restricted to just a romantic
one, it is possible that the Baroness lover would have cared more and helped the Baroness out
and not be responsible for her death. The Baroness lover may have feared of getting caught in the
affair with the Baroness which caused him to keep their relationship strictly romantic. This would
make him guilty as he wanted to avoid facing confrontation with the Baron if they were ever
caught. It is also evident that it came as a shock to the Baroness that their relationship was just a
romantic one as she went back to her lover for help and got rejected. Therefore, the person most
guilty for the death of the Baroness is the Baroness lover because he constrained their relationship
to only a romantic one .
Helping behavior is commonly seen in any romantic relationship to foster love between individuals.

The Importance Of Carol As A Character in Willy Russell s Our Day Out
The play, Our Day Out was written by Willy Russell in 1976, set in Liverpool. Willy Russell was
born in 1947 near Liverpool, he has also written other plays such as, Educating Rita, Shirley
Valentine and Blood Brothers. The play Our Day Outwas originally written for television and was
televised on BBC 2, 1977. It is a celebration of the joys and agonies of growing up and being
footloose, fourteen and free from school. But this is more than a romp it points up the depressing
present and empty future for these comprehensive no hopers from the backstreets of Liverpool, for
whom a day out is as much as they can expect. Willy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carol rushes along the street wearing a school uniform which doubles as a street outfit and her
Sunday best and She is eating half a sandwich and clutching a supermarket carrier bag . The
quotes shows that she comes from a poor background were her family doesn t really have much
money to spend, or that her family doesn t really care about Carol much. You can tell that she is
not very clever by the way she talks to her friends and teachers Miss is that in England, Eh? This
shows that she isn t very intelligent and does not have a good education. This proves that the
education system is failing children. When they are at the zoo, Carol takes an animal and
decides to give it a name I m gonna call mine Freddy. Hiya, Freddy. Hello, Freddy. Freddy. It
shows that Carol doesn t understand what she is doing is wrong, but she desires to have
something all of her own to love, care and treasure. Carol realises what her life is like at home and
doesn t want to go back to that, which highlights the message of social deprivation. Willy Russell
includes Carol because she is not like every other child in the progress class. Carol is kind and
considerate and thinks about other people before herself. We think of it as only being the kids
fault and not thinking about other reasons like money, poor background and the type of family they
come from. Therefore we feel guilty because we

USS Midway Museum
USS Midway Museum
On September 24, 2016 I had the privilege of visiting the USS Midway Historical Museum. My
friend Michelle, who is also a CBU student, accompanied me while we explored this fantastic
site. I was recommended to tour the USS Midway by my German foreign exchange student who
was able to visit the attraction a couple weeks earlier. Niels emphasized how much he enjoyed
his visit and explained that it was a shame that I had not been there earlier, due to the fact that I
live so close to San Diego. It was Niel s advice, paired with my prior interest in the history of this
battleship that inspired me to finally see it for myself.
Michelle and I arrived on a beautiful San Diego day at North Harbor Drive near the Coronado
Broadway Pier. We parked somewhat far away because it was a busy day on the harbor. Walking
towards the ship, we witnessed street performers doing all sorts of entertaining things that created
a fun atmosphere. Some were blowing up balloons for kids, while others were playing their
instruments, filling the air with a sweet melody. Walking along this beautiful parkway, looking out
at the blue waters crashing against the docks, I could not help but realize how blessed and grateful
I am to be free in such a great nation.
The first attraction I saw was a huge granite monument just across the street from the Midway. It
honored the second most decorated ship in WWII, known as the USS San Diego CL 53. This ship
was a tiny cruiser that had tremendous

The Visit by Friedrich DГјrrenmatt
The Visit, originally published in 1986, is a play written by Friedrich DГјrrenmatt. DГјrrenmatt s
play is set in GГјllen, an industrial town on the decline that has found itself in troublesome times.
When the world s richest woman makes an undeniable offer, it becomes clear that the town s
economy will be saved, but only at an unthinkable cost. As the play unfolds, the rise and fall of the
town and each of its citizens becomes evident. DГјrrenmatt, a 20th century Swiss playwright, is
well known for the thorough development of characters in his works; in his tragicomedy, The
Visit, he employs the use of character development to illustrate the rise and fall of his two main
characters, Alfred Ill and Claire Zachanassian, as they progress from adolescence to adulthood.
In their adolescence, both Ill and Claire are presumably happy, as they are head over heels in love
with each other. The two are practically inseparable, constantly running off to the woods or
Peterson s Barn. Unfortunately, this all takes a drastic turn when Claire becomes pregnant and
charges Ill with a paternity suit. As an adolescent, not only is Claire charitable , but she also loves
justice, which is why she considers it a complete betrayal when Ill denies that the baby is his
(DГјrrenmatt 6). When she loses the paternity suit, the town essentially turns against her and
banishes a pregnant Claire. She transitions from a relatively high point in her life to being
banished, which can be seen as the beginning of

Essay On Noise Reduction
Signal Enhancing and Noise Reducing Experimental Design to Increase Quality Design and
analysis of a research study are necessary to an answer to the research problem and can be a
simple two group design or multiple variables and variable level design to collect the necessary
data to derive a supporting or opposing hypothesis (Jackson, 2011). An experiment and its design
should 1) reduce or eliminate influencing factors, 2) randomly assign the treatments and 3) use
multi level design to increase the quality of the outcome of the researchstudy (Wiley, 2009).
This paper will focus on the factorial and covariance or blocking designs used in complex research
studies to improve the quality of the research and its outcome

An example of a factorial design would be an educational study to determine if a particular
setting delivers better test scores. The design would take on a 2x2 structure where the two
factors to be considered are 1) setting where the education takes place and 2) the length of time
the education takes place. The levels of the factors would be 1) setting is in a classroom and 2)
setting is online and time of education would be 1) four hours a week and 2) eight hours a
week. The 2x2 structure then allows for the variables to be measured against one another for
outcomes. The study would consist of four groups; 1) in a classroom for 4 hours a week, 2) in a
classroom for 8 hours a week, 3) online for 4 hours a week and 4) online for 8 hours a week. The
test scores collected for each of the four groups measure for main and interaction effects. Main
effects measure at the level of the variable, and the interaction effects measure at the factor
(Jackson, 2011; Trochim, Donnelly Arora, 2016). In other words, the main effect would be
graphically represented with the mean results of the four groups visually showing the impact of the
results in each of the groups (Jackson, 2011; Trochim, Donnelly Arora, 2016). The interaction effect
measures the impact of the time and setting at the factor level (Jackson, 2011; Trochim, Donnelly
Arora, 2016).

Concealed Weapons In Schools
In the past, there have been several shootings in schools across the nation. However, the students
and staffs are questioning should the concealed weapon permit carriers have firearms in their
possession on college campuses. Even though concealed weapon permit carriers are protecting
themselves from harm by having their firearms; still other people are raising their eyebrows. On
the other hand, there are other people who think carrying concealed weapons on campuses will
cause more harm and the death toll will rise. As Time. Com writer Josh Sanburn points out that the
shooting at Umpqua Community College on Oct. 1, which claimed 10 lives including the gunman,
is by far the worst incident on a college campus this year (qtd. in Sanburn). Therefore,

Reading Comprehension Is An Essential Skill For Reasoning...
Reading comprehension is an essential skill for reasoning and for functioning well in everyday
life. The SAT is a test that measures these skills and it is a crucial part of high school students to be
admitted into post secondary schools. A test of this magnitude combined with the increasing
competition in college admissions should have testscores increasing as each year passes, but
instead, a reverse trend is occurring. The average reading scores have decreased in the last four
decades, having dropped an average of thirty three points from 1972 (Chandler). These drastic
decreases in the scores can be attributed to the change in demographics of the test takers and the
advancement of technological goods in everyday life. Reading scores have dropped primarily
because of the increasing amount of different individuals taking the test. First introduced in the
early 1900s, the primary test takers of the SAT were American, rich, white males. In the next
century test takers have grown tremendously, nearing two million high schoolseniors. Students from
all races, backgrounds and nationalities take the test now. With the increase in the number of
students taking the SAT, more and more high school students who speak English as a second
language are taking the standardized test. Forty eight percent of all Hispanic students took the test
in 2011, whereas forty years ago, only a fraction of Hispanic students took the test (Chandler). The

Moroccan Cultural Identity
In 1956, Morocco emerged as independent from one of the many colonizers at the time, France.
Those who were to lead the transition from colony to independent monarchy had two problems.
First, France officially recognized Morocco as an independent sovereign state but insisted on
guiding the creation of the new state (Balfaraj, para. 5 7). Second, as the case with its neighbour
Algeria, France had annexed its colonies in North Africa and redefined them as French in culture,
tradition and territory. In doing so, it declared a war on native culture and traditions (Hannoum, pp.
7 11). Hence, how was Moroccogoing to regain its native culture and what form would the newly
independent Morocco culturally assume? Political theorists such as Anderson argued that nations
will form when a national public consciousness arises. Others, like Habermas, theorised that nations
would regain identity when the public and private spheres merge and, as per Andreson, when both
spheres, melded into one, reimagine and actualise their pre colonial national identity and ultimately
emerge as a united construct. While both theories try to imagine, and define post colonial national
identity, female writers such as Assisa Djeba from Algeria, Souad Guellouz from Tunisia and Leila
Abouzeid from Morocco immediately slipped into their culture, language, traditions and
nationhood. Despite the utterly cruel cultural, linguistic and national suppression they faced under
the French, none of the elements which

Most Influential Characters Of The Old Testament
Abraham is one the most influential characters of the Old Testament in helping us to understand
the Gospel. He lived 4,000 years ago traveling from what is known today as Iraq to modern day
Israel. He was a friend of God and became a father of faith as well as father to many nations.
Therefore, through this passage, we read about one of the dramatic story of Godtesting Abraham s
faith. It took Abraham twenty five years to finally receive his first heir son and God tells him in
vs. 2 Then God said, Take your son, your only son, whom you love Isaacand go to the land of
Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.

God meant every word in this verse even though He knew exactly how precious Isaac was to
Abraham. I mean it took Abraham until his 100th age to finally bore a son. First lesson we can
learn here is that God does not tempt, He tests us. untested faith is no faith at all Abraham
passed the hardest test ever known to men because he did not withhold his only son simply
because he obeyed the voice of the Lord. The second lesson we can learn from this passage is
Abraham s faith. Abraham had all night and morning to be sacred, worried, sad, and terrified,
about what God had instructed him to do. However because he obeyed God and knew that God
would provide an alternative sacrifice, he had faith in God. In verse 8, Isaac asks Abraham where
is the sheep for the burnt offering, Abraham replied, God will provide a sheep for the burnt
offering, my son.

Ancient Mediterranean Art
I. Description of a Cycladic female figurine Cycladic civilization is divided into three periods:
Early Cycladic (3000 2000 BC), Middle Cycladic (2000 1500 BC), and Late Cycladic (1500 1100

The Universal Truths on The Epic of Gilgamesh amp; The Hebrew Bible
The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible are considered by their audiences as two of the
greatest literary works of ancient literature. The universal truths on The Epic of Gilgamesh and The
Hebrew Bible, are most fundamental when viewed from both the contemporary and traditional
audiences. Fundamentally, both audiences develop their own universal truths during the time in
which the events transpired or by reading the scenic events from an anthology or other literary
works.
Most importantly, both literary works have sought the attention of their ... Show more content on

For example, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, A snake caught the scent of the plant, Stealthily it came
up and carried the plant away, On its way back it shed its skin......etc.......For myself I have
obtained no benefit, I have done a good deed for a reptile (Sec. 11, 307 317). This excerpt
conveys to its audience Gilgamesh s thought process at the pinnacle of the story. We, as the
audience, now realize that Gilgamesh has finally accepted that death is inevitable. The
inevitability of death also played a major role in The Hebrew Bible. For example, And the woman
said, The serpent beguiled me and I ate, etc.......And to the human He said, for dust you are and to
dust shall you return (Genesis Sec. 3, pg. 160 161). As a result of mankind s disobedience to God s
authority, the human population was cursed with the inevitability of death for all generations.
There will always be philosophical interpretations that will create universal truths for many
generations to come. In addition, these literary works enriches the audiences understanding of these
texts as supremely important cultural and historical documents, for audiences who embrace their
universal truths. Both generational audiences spiritual interpretations seemed to have, collectively,
developed a text of extraordinary literary works that are overflowing with philosophical and truth
seeking richness.

become too dangerous to live in. They bring with them or later send for their children to come.
Migrant parents push for their children to strive for success at schooland to get a job where they

rate is so high in San Pedro Sula, Honduras second largest city, that in 2014 the murder rate was
171 per 100,000 people. More than 97 percent of all murders go unsolved. Honduras doesn t have

the sidewalk or a parking lot. Many of these murders go unsolved because the people that could

growing up in communities like this that don t plan on emigrating in the United States will often

want. Children will join gangs for a number of reasons. Some join to feel that they are a part of
something, to feel that they have a family with people who care about them. Many are in this
situation due to not growing up with their parents. This could be the kids of migrant mothers
who make the journey into the United States to provide a better future for kids only to have

from other rival gangs. In Enrique s journey, Enrique made friends from a gang called MS 13,

Electronic Product Code ( Upc )
Currently, almost everything that customers buy from shopping centers has a Universal Product
Code (UPC) printed on it. RFID tags are improved version of the UPC bar code as they have
read and write capabilities, indicating that they could be read by RFID scanners and also store
information. Each product within the shopping center will be labeled with a unique Electronic
Product Code (EPC) that will take the place of UPC bar code. Each label could contain 96 bits of
information, including names of products, the manufacturers and a 40 bit serial numbers. There is
going to be an attachable RFIDreader with LED screen attached, when the products with the RFID
tags are thrown in the cart, the scan reader will automatically scan the tag and show the price on the
LED screen and calculate it, making it easier for customers to manage their budget. Then when
customers are done with their shopping, they can push the cart and go through the exit door that
has the Near Field Communication (NFC) devices embedded, which can read RFID tags and extract
information stored in them, allowing the charge to automatically go to the customer s credit card.
The scanner reader for the RFID tags is also going to replace the UPC readers at the doors near
the exit of the stores. Using a network called Object Naming service, which is a database that would
retrieve the information and then direct the information to stores computers once it leaves the

The workplace is a delicate environment filled with different personalities types. These differing

The United States Department of Labor (DOL) has a mission to protect the welfare of wage
earners, job seekers, and retirees. They also improve working conditions and ensure work related
benefits and rights. The DOL has many laws and reregulation s protecting workers that range from
the Fair Labor Standards Act, which sets standards for wages and overtime pay, to the Occupational
Safety and Health Act, which focuses on workplace safety and health. With the wide range that
the DOL has employees can feel that they have standards in place to ensure fair pay, fair
treatment, and a safe environment to work in. Without the enforcement of the DOL corporations
are left to establish pay and safety standards internally. In a business atmosphere where the
importance of profit is often placed before the employees, an environment without laws and
regulations can be dangerous. An example can be seen in other countries where labor laws are not
in place compassion and common sense also seem to be absent. In these areas workers, many times
children often works long hours for little pay. Sadly it has been shown that when corporations are
unregulated the importance for the fair treatment of employees takes a less important role. The faith
in corporate America has been somewhat fragile with the knowledge of many corporate

  • 2. The State Song Of Kansas And The Musical Of The American West Home on the Range, the state song of Kansas and the musical embodiment of the American West. With its original composition dated in the early 1870 s and continued popularity around campfires today, this song offers listeners a chance to remember the true West a land where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play... and the skies are not cloudy all day. This song describes a beautiful, open frontier where humanity admires nature and the two live in harmony with one another. An area full of wild animals and natural landscapes alongside cowboys and farmers. With this song in mind, people of the past and present may envision wilderness alongside tranquility, a place characterized by its mutually beneficial relationship with the land. Although many envision the 19th century American frontier as an open land full of forests, plains, buffalo, cowboys, and Indians, the actual American frontier was a large industrial system blinded by capital that relied on the exploitation of the natural world, technology to transform this nature into capital, and trains to link together this vast industrial frontier. As Dr. Higley wrote the poem that became Home on the Range, the American industrial frontier simultaneously began to render the roaming buffalo extinct. At the same time, Americans depleted and exploited other native animals and natural lands, turning nature into capital and paving the way for the American industrial frontier. The depletion of America s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even after the multitude of worksheets, Spanish movies, and dreaded oral assessments many students find themselves unsuccessful. However, outside of a couple high school language classes, students are not obligated to utilize Spanish in order to complete a grueling college entrance exam, file taxes, or acquire groceries, for we live in a predominantly English speaking country. Conversely, Spanish speaking students are asked to undertake a task this overwhelming and are expected to be successful. If a child does not feel confident, feels as though they could never go to college, or is constantly overwhelmed because they are in a TBE program, than they will not perform as well as their peers. Teachers can help promote the success of their students by not using negative language, but instead giving out encouragement and celebrating small victories. Teachers should correct mistakes in a healthy way, not by putting down their students which decreases their students motivation to learn. Teachers should also continually meet with students who are ESL learners to see if they fully understood the content of the language so that the students do not fall behind and eventually drop out. Teachers can also instill hope in their students by connecting them to information about scholarships geared specifically toward ESL students. Students often associate not having money to not being able to go to college; however, there are resources out there that make college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ustas made her classroom expectations clear, but in class if students aren t obeying those she will tell them to stop, tell them this is their first warning, or if it something worse than just talking she will say do you want me to have to give you a check and reflect to which they will normally stop and say no. She encourages all children to participate by preventing students from just shouting out the answer and making them all raise their hands so everyone has time to think about the question, or she will do the opposite and have everyone say it together. She does not cold call students as far as I have seen. She will normally say not exactly to students incorrect answers, but still have that student be speaking as she uses guiding questions to help their thinking and them get to the right answer. If that still doesnt work she asks if anyone wants to help students name out. When an unplanned interruption from a student happens she shuts it down by saying their name and do not talk while I m trying to teach in a stern voice and giving them a look. The Street Car Named Desire and Death of a Salesmen both have central themes that center around the main characters of the plays revealing both playwright s unrealistic expectations of women. The characters of the plays struggle with being their own downfall. There are also the same place in which we can see the characters struggle. The role of Stella and Linda are both very traditional women in that the play they the p lay the stay at home wife. Stella, In the Street Car Named Desire is loyal to her husband. Same as in Death of a Sales Linda is very shy and conservative around her husband. However, this can really be seen due to the type of sentence structure and tone that is used when either character is talking to their better half. Due to both Miller and Williams being men they depict the women to act what a man would imagine a perfect wife would be. So, both of the playwright s characters are not realistic but a fantasy and not an actual portray of women. In the play bot Linda and Stella are only introduced to stand by their husbands. Both characters seem to only be present for supporting their spouses by doing all the house chores as well as shielding them from harm. Sometimes, in order for an individual s own safety, sacrifices have to be made. The government has full justification to arbitrate the people s online private matters because it is necessary for the protection of the country and its citizens. One example comes from an underground network called the deep web . The deep web could be described as the wild west of the internet. Numerous amounts of information are posted on the deep web where normal search engines like Google or Bing do not show. According to Tyler Biscontini, a writer for the Salem Press, the deep web is useful for many different reasons. It provides anonymity to anyone using it. Special software must be downloaded in order to run the deep web. This is mainly because the deep web s main feature is that the user s ip address is changed so that they can roam the web free of the fear of being tracked. It also provides a significant greater amount of information that is not accessible on a normal browser. Journalist especially, use the deep web in order to dive into research and scouting topics for future stories. However, the deep web can also be a dangerous place. Many individuals take advantage of its features for wrongdoing. Due to the anonymity that comes with accessing the deep web, it is hard to track down individuals performing the crimes. Gloria Steinem discusses a similar idea in her article, quot;Sex, Lies, and Advertising. quot; She repeatedly demonstrates how advertisements, particularly in magazines, are complementary to the articles around them. In the same manner, so are commercials to television programs. They are both aimed at the same groups or types of people, such as sex, age, gender, etc. Many times, the time of day or day of the week a show is aired has a lot to do with the types of viewers the program will attract. Thus, the types of commercials will also differ. On... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leaves a majority of the older crowds watching the program. According to Gloria Steinem, the target of the television show will be the same as that of the commercials. This proved to be true with quot;Profiler quot; and its commercials. There were a total of twenty commercials aired. They included and Allstate Insurance ad, a number of car dealers and promotions, chewing gum, beauty products, medicine, food, and television satellites. Most of them had female voice overs with predominantly white actors and/or actresses. The actors and/or actresses were also good looking, thin, and of high to medium status. In Steinem s terms, and as mentioned by Cayo Gamber, an advertisement is generally linked to the article, or in this case, the program. The show is seen as a quot;complementary copy quot; for the commercials; because it included certain accessories to a person in the same life style as the characters in the program. The cars advertisements, in particular, were at times found in the show. However, the other products weren t really enforced by the program. Above all, the program did help maintain the intended target interested and tuned in to that specific channel. The benefit of airing commercials at that specific time of ... This concert was actually apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most everyone dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who made my night. He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a giant fur hat. Other zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an area that treasures local gatherings and celebrations. The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or so people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who performed managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and they looked like they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum where the stage was waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed Thriller again. Sadly the lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was cringe. All the high notes sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv screen behind them that actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers incompetent. Weird sound effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played along with the original audio. • 11. Puritans And The New World Essay Over the years, people broadcast the Puritans as a group of people who were extremely legalistic and against anything that would be considered fun in the modern world. This incorrect broadcast of the Puritans has led to many misconceptions about how they lived when they came to the New World and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans were not legalistic, but rather sought to please God by creating a society that focused on fulfilling their calling through the institutions of family, work, education, and government in a positive environment. This led to a fruitful society when it followed in its original intentions. The Puritans believed that God instituted society and expected to see Christian principles prevail within (173). The goal of the Puritans was not to be legalistic but to please the God who sent His Son to save them from their sins. As a result, they sought to establish laws that aligned with Christian principles. One Puritan, Thomas Cartwright, even said that the commonwealth must be made to agree with the church [that is Christian principles]. Laws were not instituted to force action of the citizens but sought to ensure that the citizens of the colony followed the commands of God laid out in the Bible. While this motivation to obey the Word of God in all portions does substantiate the claim towards legalism, a deeper study of the term legalism shows that the Puritans were not legalistic. • 12. Visual Cliff Experiment Essay Gibson Walk conducted one of the most interesting studies we learned in class. In 1960, the two researchers conducted the Visual Cliff experiment. This study used infants and tested their visual abilities. The researchers tested the depth perception in the infants used in the study. They put the infants on a glass table that had a shallow side as well as a deep side, and the infant would crawl on it. I was wondering if the mothers of these infants could have any effect on the experiment. I wanted to know if the infants were told to crawl over by their mothers from the shallow side of the table before the deep side of the table. I figured if the mother was on the shallow end of the table and the infant crawled to her that they would trust the mother more and crawl over the deep side. It turns out the mothers didn t really effect the experiment. In the experiment, the mothers actually called them over from the deep end side of the table before they went over to the shallow side. History Of Desert Storm In the early morning hours of January 18, 1991, the first PATRIOT missile engaged an Iraqi ballistic missile, changing the future of United States Air Defense Artillery. Throughout the initial days of Desert Storm, United States PATRIOT batteries defended the countries of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Israel from a barrage of Iraqi ballistic missile. This began and solidified United States alliances with Middle Eastern countries that remain to this day. Looking at the era surrounding Desert Storm, one can see the accelerated development of PATRIOT and US Air Defense through failures, successes, and lessons learned. During the Iraq/ Iran War, with United States support, the Iraqi military became the 4th largest military in the world. Prior to Desert Storm, the Iraqi government coveted the vast oil fields of neighboring Kuwait. In the 43 days of combat, the Allied coalition air sorties totaled 44,000, or more than one bombing sortie per minute since the start of the operation (Englehardt, 1991). The dominance in the air allowed the fighters and bombers freedom to maneuver against SCUD sites, air fields, and other Iraqi assets essential to continue the occupation of Kuwait. The question of how long it will take a spacecraft to reach Mars depends on where we are because both planets are constantly orbiting the Sun. According to Space.Com, on average, it would take around 162 days to reach Mars [3] Because the Mars and Earth is so far away, we can expect that there are many differences among the two planets. Living on Earth is as comfortable as it is, and so this leads us to the question as to why we would want to risk our health, and our life to go out into space and do explorations Different people have different say in this matter, but Fox News has generated multiple reasons why we should have human explorations on Mars. The first and most obvious reason would be because we want more scientific knowledge and discover more about the Mars. We were able to gain many knowledge about the Mars through robotic explorations, but scientist and others aspiring scientist have strong enthusiasm that humans can do a more thorough exploration on the mars. • 17. Alcohol Addiction Is The High Risk Of Relapse Alcoholic beverages are served in many restaurants, sold in many stores, and acceptably consumed in many populations. Although alcohol can become a drug of abuse, not many view it that way. According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (2014), about 7.2% of adults in the United States ages 18 and over have an alcohol use disorder. A variety of environmental and genetic factors contribute to the development of alcohol addiction. The variability in the causes of alcohol addiction generates variability in the response to treatment. However, what is common among all alcohol addictions is the high risk of relapse. This risk is potentially caused by the lasting changes in the brainthat occur when voluntary alcohol use becomes an addiction. The neural changes that are a result of an alcohol addiction potentially put a recovered alcoholic at high risk of relapse until these circuits can be erased and replaced with healthier circuits. Not enough is known about the nature of alcohol addiction to provide a clear cut way to replace addiction circuitry with healthier wiring, however, new research on the neural mechanisms of addiction are creating a better understanding of the effects of alcoholism. This new insight is leading to suggestions for more effective treatments. One new treatment, called cue exposure therapy, might be a significant new development because it addresses the neural changes caused by alcohol addiction and focuses on using conditioning to ... Structural Functionalism is the paradigm that describes social problems as parts of life which are necessary to maintain balance. As Wienclaw writes, structural functionalists see divorceas a challenge, supporters of the conflict theory find that divorce is the result of contradictory opinions of people in the family, and symbolic interactionists think divorce or different types of families are a product of modern outlooks surrounding the family (Wienclaw, 2014). More than one of the resources stressed the importance of more research into if divorce was the only cause of single parent household hardships and evaluating whether there were more positive effects of divorce since less research on this subject has been done in comparison to the negative effects of divorce. Aristotle lacked the technical and conceptual tools utilized by modern science in his endeavors to explain why something is true instead of the statement that something it is true. While Aristotle erred in his findings in many of the various scientific realms, such as a geocentric versus heliocentric solar system, his scientific application of syllogism gave way to modern scientific empiricism which is the idea that an abstract argument must be supported by factual evidence and for the theory to be judged by a tribunal of observation. Essay This case involves the improperly represented earnings by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. during the fourth quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2003 and each quarter of FY 2004. The company used improper accounting methods to avoid lowering its earnings during that period. Krispy Kreme also fraudulently reported its earnings per share (EPS) throughout that time, which exceeded the previously stated EPS by 1 percent. An agreement to settle the charges against Krispy Kremewas reached on March 4, 2009 when the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a cease and desist order. The SEC cited Krispy Kreme for three round trip transactions, which involved the company paying money to a franchise with an understanding that the franchise would later repay the money in a planned method. This would allow Krispy Kreme to record extra pretax income in an amount that was nearly equal to the money that was initially paid to the franchisee. Another area which could be hit is that of cases which have enormous public importance, but which need large amounts of work, are difficult to win, and may attract relatively low levels of damages even if successful. These include some types of action against the police and Government, such as complaints by prisoners about their treatment. The Act does address these issues in that it provides for cases in excluded categories to be funded in exceptional circumstances; it remains to be seen whether this will be sufficiently flexible in practice. Another disadvantage is unfair trials. Where legal aid is refused, a trial may prove to be unfair of one party is represented but the other is not. This is potentially a breach of Article 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), which guarantees the right to fair trial. In Steel v UK (2005) (or common known as the McLibel Two), Ds were environmental campaigners who were charged with defamation for disturbing leaflet criticizing nutritional content of McDonald s fast food. Ds were refused legal aid because it is not generally available for defamation cases. They were unrepresented (save for limited assistance from sympathetic lawyers) whereas McDonald s was represented by a team of lawyers. Ds were found liable. These changes occurred due to the existence of different point of views. The North did not need slavery and acknowledge the cons of slavery while the South s want for slavery quickly became a need. After the American Revolution, The North slowly started to rid itself of slavery while the South implemented slavery into their daily lives. Some slave owners even allowed their slaves to purchase their freedom by working for them for a certain amount of time. As the North finally gets rid of all slave activity, the South becomes more and more dependent on slave labor and more embedded into the system. Both free and enslaved Africans were discriminated against in this time period but responded differently towards their challenges. African Americans found ways to cope with their situation one being religious gatherings (Doc D). They sang old traditional African songs and danced. By doing so, they can forget about life troubles for a moment and give themselves a sense of hope that someday they would by free. Some slaves where more violent than other and began rebellions against their white owners. The use of rebellion was inspired to them by the Bible and that God was pleading for their cause with earnestness and zeal (Doc G). • 37. Social Injustice Was Rampant During Amos s Time Social injustice was rampant during Amos s time. Not only within Israel/Judah, but also in the foreign kingdoms around them. We are first introduced to the sins of Israel s neighbors in Amos chapters 1 and 2, which the Lord has found unfavorable which include; crushing Gilead in a cruel manner ( Amos,1:3 New International Version), selling communities into slavery (Amos 1:6, 1:9), murdering their brothers, killing women and their babies (Amos 1:11, 1:13), and burning the bones of others (Amos 2:1). Then we are introduced to the sins of Israel and Judah which include; forgetting the law (Amos 2:4), worshipping other gods (Amos 2:4), selling people into slavery (Amos 2:6), treat those under them cruelly (Amos 2:7), and women being shared between father and son (Amos 2:7) When you look at these two lists it is painfully evident to see that Gods people were very similar to those around them. Already they were becoming a lot like those around them, failing to keep themselves pure and separate. When we look at these things that the Lord is finding issue with, we can see just how many have to do with how they are treating those around them. By showing his disapproval of these actions, God is showing us His heart on these matters. • 38. Eukaryotic Theory Introns are nucleotide sequences universal amongst the Eukarya domain. Reconstructive models of maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is suggestive of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many valuable roles this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To understand their widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to discern the evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial endosymbiosis and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a mechanism consistent with the high levels of GpII in some О± proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly, 2005) and the ability of yeast mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996). Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the О± proteobacteria coupled with its bacterial nature of jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the host cell which lacked the necessary control mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the proportion of introns in the LECA genome is considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1). Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins showed that intron positions were conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent between all eukaryotes. However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host. Principally, random and aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential coding sequences within the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist. Additionally, splicing reactions require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the spliceosome, comprised of over 150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in which would cause broad harm to the cell (Chorev Carmel, ... • 39. Existentialism In Antigone During the mid 20th century, French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre coined the phrase existence precedes essence . This is a central claim of existentialism. This philosophical theory stated that humans have no predetermined purpose and that any purpose your life has is given to it by you. Existentialism was a popular approach during and after World War II, which was when Anouilh wrote this version of Antigone, that led many people to abandon any belief in an ordered world. Although Jean Anouilh isn t an existentialist, in his play, Antigone, he writes Antigone as a character who shows many characteristics that fit with a few ideas of existentialismto represent the indifference of the universe to human concerns. The central idea of existentialism is that human beings define themselves. We are put into this world without a set path that we are supposed to follow. We must create our own ambitions and values. We have to find our own reason for living. Antigone values the innocence of untainted beauty and has a general love for life. We see this when she talks to the nurse about where she has been at the beginning of the play, in which she says It was beautiful. The whole world was grey when I went out... It s like a postcard (6). You can see here that she loves nature and the beauty of the world. Niels emphasized how much he enjoyed his visit and explained that it was a shame that I had not been there earlier, due to the fact that I live so close to San Diego. DГјrrenmatt s play is set in GГјllen, an industrial town on the decline that has found itself in troublesome times. When the world s richest woman makes an undeniable offer, it becomes clear that the town s economy will be saved, but only at an unthinkable cost. As the play unfolds, the rise and fall of the town and each of its citizens becomes evident. DГјrrenmatt, a 20th century Swiss playwright, is well known for the thorough development of characters in his works; in his tragicomedy, The Visit, he employs the use of character development to illustrate the rise and fall of his two main characters, Alfred Ill and Claire Zachanassian, as they progress from adolescence to adulthood. In their adolescence, both Ill and Claire are presumably happy, as they are head over heels in love with each other. The two are practically inseparable, constantly running off to the woods or Peterson s Barn. Unfortunately, this all takes a drastic turn when Claire becomes pregnant and charges Ill with a paternity suit. As an adolescent, not only is Claire charitable , but she also loves justice, which is why she considers it a complete betrayal when Ill denies that the baby is his (DГјrrenmatt 6). When she loses the paternity suit, the town essentially turns against her and banishes a pregnant Claire. The SAT is a test that measures these skills and it is a crucial part of high school students to be admitted into post secondary schools. A test of this magnitude combined with the increasing competition in college admissions should have testscores increasing as each year passes, but instead, a reverse trend is occurring. The average reading scores have decreased in the last four decades, having dropped an average of thirty three points from 1972 (Chandler). These drastic decreases in the scores can be attributed to the change in demographics of the test takers and the advancement of technological goods in everyday life. Reading scores have dropped primarily because of the increasing amount of different individuals taking the test. First introduced in the early 1900s, the primary test takers of the SAT were American, rich, white males. In the next century test takers have grown tremendously, nearing two million high schoolseniors. Students from all races, backgrounds and nationalities take the test now. Those who were to lead the transition from colony to independent monarchy had two problems. First, France officially recognized Morocco as an independent sovereign state but insisted on guiding the creation of the new state (Balfaraj, para. 5 7). Second, as the case with its neighbour Algeria, France had annexed its colonies in North Africa and redefined them as French in culture, tradition and territory. In doing so, it declared a war on native culture and traditions (Hannoum, pp. 7 11). Hence, how was Moroccogoing to regain its native culture and what form would the newly independent Morocco culturally assume? Political theorists such as Anderson argued that nations will form when a national public consciousness arises. Others, like Habermas, theorised that nations would regain identity when the public and private spheres merge and, as per Andreson, when both spheres, melded into one, reimagine and actualise their pre colonial national identity and ultimately emerge as a united construct. While both theories try to imagine, and define post colonial national identity, female writers such as Assisa Djeba from Algeria, Souad Guellouz from Tunisia and Leila Abouzeid from Morocco immediately slipped into their culture, language, traditions and nationhood.
