To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is...
To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare. Throughout
the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning
on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other
characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience
does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario.
Orsino does not know the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same
when he says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman. For
Shakespeare s audience there was a heightened level of irony because at that... Show more content

This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as
a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real
personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the
Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form
of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality
and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is
disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this.
This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola
s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and
without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her
actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other
characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to
create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and
ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity.
Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith
ending, with all the characters present

Analysis Of Fight Club And The Girl With The Dragon
How David Fincher uses colour in the film Fight Club and how this is used to influence the viewer.
Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions
as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to
expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. The Director of Fight club and other
films such as Se7en and the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, David Fincher is very well known for
working closely with the cinematographer and his post production team to tightly control the colour
in his films and being quite innovative in his techniques to achieve better quality of colour and
control over his films.
David Fincher, the director of Fight Club is well known for the certain look of his films as he
has developed his own signature style, sometimes called reality enhanced as his style is natural
lighting but in a new almost HD way. He uses techniques such as LED lighting, the films are dark
and dank but colourful at the same time. As a usual template it seems he de saturates the picture
then depending on the mood of the scene he warms up or cools off the image often times he uses
blue in the shadows to add depth and to retain the crisp blackness and teal to the highlights this
shows a strong understanding of how colours work together.
In Fight Club, David Fincher uses his usual hues of blacks, greys and browns but also adds in
yellows, blues and greens. Yellowis usually a happy

Godzilla Reflection
The film names Godzilla is what we saw last week and the film began with the nuclear weapon
exploded to the sea. Unfortunately, the boat names Lucky Dragon was near the place where
nuclear explored and they were influenced by the nuclear weapon, the one of the people that are
from the Lucky Dragon finally died after the six months. After the nuclear weaponexploded, the
Godzillawas waked by the nuclear weapon and started to attack Japan. Like the William Tsutsui
said in his book that the original Godzilla film(Gojira) was more than just a guy in a rubber suit
smashing a model of Tokyo. Some people argue the movie Godzilla does not have a deep
meaning because it copied the idea of other movies and they just want to make money. In my
opinion, I have a different opinion which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book
because the film Godzilla shows the anti nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both
sides for humans which also reflect the influence of nuclear.
First of all, the movie has a deep meaning of the anti nuclear which is The time honored story of
Godzilla s genesis begins in the spring of 1954 with Tanaka Tomoyuki. (p14). In 1954, Japan
was attacked by America s nuclear and they were afraid of the nuclear weapon because the
Godzilla was waked by nuclear weapon at that time. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for
several times and most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla
waked up in the sea by the nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using
fire and trampling on the buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the
Godzilla just stepped on the train and also throws some parts of the train away, many people
dead from his attack and restless people just ran away and show the faces that they are scared.
Especially at the end of movie, the person said If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. It s possible
that another Godzilla might appear...Somewhere in the world, again. which showed us that they do
not want to do nuclear conducting anymore which will make another Godzilla appears again in the
future to hurt people and also showed its meaning with most people s mind that afraid of the war

International Emergency Powers Act ( Iepa )
On November 4, 1979, Iranian revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took
several Americans hostage . President Carter subsequently issued executive order 12170, under the
provision of the International Emergency Powers Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian
governmental assets within the jurisdiction of the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to
release the hostages in exchange for the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal
proceedings of US nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this
agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate control
measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination.
Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous Iranian
governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of their case in early 1980,
but Carter s executive order effectively forced the cooperation to relegate the case with the newly
formed Claims Tribunal. Dames doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that
they exceeded constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . Because of
the severity of the events surrounding the executive order, the case was sent directly to the
Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Court upheld executive order 12170; the issues of fund transfer
and suspension of legal claims both proved legal under the IEPA and congressional

The Development Of The Horror Genre Throughout The Years

Final Semester Paper
The Development of the Horror Genre Throughout the Years Both horror and science fiction
explore the boundaries of what is means to be human (Belton, 272). This is done by
emphasizing the dilemmas of the figures who straddle the border of human and non human
(Belton, 273). Horror and Sci fi contain narratives that take on a form of a search for knowledge
that will enable the human race to overcome any obstacle that involves a supernatural force
(Belton, 273); the story lines require a search or journey to resolve the issue. Horror and Sci fi
often overlap when there is a monster featured in a sci fi film; or when a horror film is set in the
future (Belton, 271). The two differ in purpose, horror, a sub genre for sci fi, was created to
generate fear through a figure of a monster or supernatural being. While Sci fi has a chief purpose
of focusing on science and reasoning (Belton, 272). The development of both genres is created to a
number of works done throughout the years. The improvement of special effects, influences from
the original masters of suspense, camera angles, and heightened elements of the horror film genre
has allowed it to maintain its popular demand amongst audiences for decades.
Although Native Americans have passed legends about werewolves, evil spirits, and monsters from
tribe to tribe since before the 14th century, it was not until this time that spiritual literature emerged

Active Aging Essay
Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social
and mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community
throughout the aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals
regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions
of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational,
social and spiritual ( What is Active Aging, 2017).
Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. It
also refers to the continued participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs.
Older people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active
participants in the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to
extend healthy life and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy
Framework, 2002).
The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and
the United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. It
moves from the assumption that older people are passive (a needs based approach) to the idea that
people should be afforded equality in all areas as they age (a rights based approach) ( Active
Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002, p.

The Columbian Exchange Between The New World And The Old...
The Columbian exchange is an interchange of plants, ideas, diseases and many more things
traded between the New World and the Old World during the 15th and 16th century. It all began in
1492 after Christopher Columbus went on his voyage and discovered the New World. After
discovering the New World many milestones in history began to form. Following in his steps of
his new discovery came some of the Europeans. Since the Colombian exchange began, many things
have been brought to America and many things have been sent over in the directions. The Old
World has brought over many supplies as in sugar, coffee, horses and smallpox. The Americas
brought to them corn, cocoa beans, and tomatoes in their exchange. Not only did the old and the
new world bring great things to each other, they also brought diseases and a decrease in the
population of the new world. Instead of the old world taking in the new world s culture, it was
reversed. The new world had taken in the old world s way of lifestyle.
During the exchange of goods and people moving to the new world brought sickness and diseases.
The most common diseases the Old World brought were smallpox, measles, malaria, yellow fever,
influenza, chicken pox. The most destructive disease out of all the ones brought to America were
the smallpox. Small pox is a contagious, disfiguring and a deadly disease. The small pox started
with the animals, and once the animals started being brought over and the disease was then

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Coastal Management
WHAT IS COASTAL MANAGEMENT?
Coastal management refers to the technique in which natural features of the coast are maintained
and protected from the threats of coastal erosion and coastal flooding.
Successful management of coastal areas depends on understanding the different uses of coastal land
and the physical processes impacting on the coast, such as erosion and longshore drift (BBC, 2014

President Richard Nixon s Political Scandal
The Richard Nixon Assignment
United States President Richard Nixon was involved in a major political scandal during the
1970s that resulted from a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The
scandal was known as the Watergate scandal. The scandal was called Watergate because it
occurred at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. Nixon and his administration
attempted to cover up the scandal, but the scandal was discovered and investigated by Congress.
The scandal comprised of illegal activities such as bugging of offices, ordering investigations of
activist groups and political figures with the use of the FBI, CIA, and IRS. There were several
abuses of power during the scandal and the results of the scandal and investigation were indictment
of sixty nine individuals and Richard Nixon resigning his office as President of the United States.

The loaves varied in consistency; what we call the crust of the bread today was blackened at the
outer edges then dark brown towards the center with water consistency increasing substantially
towards the center of the loaf. Cato provided detailed descriptions of weights of both the grains
and bread distributed to the slaves. Researchers were able to estimate the weights of the breads
that were likely consumed daily. This estimate ranges from 4 to 5 pounds of bread daily, from
which can be gleaned that the smaller loaves were especially dense in comparison to modern
bread. This would have been a large volume of food for a slave, though they were likely only fed
enough to continue working. Cato listed two recipes in his De Agri Cultura LVI and both are
breads for offering rituals. It is clear from the writing Cato was not himself a baker, yet the recipes
are enlightening nonetheless. Several challenges were encountered when Micah attempted to
follow a recipe for the bread to be used in the ritual. All ingredients are listed in pounds but in
current recipes most ingredients are measured by volume. Estimation was significant to
approximate quantities, and substitutions had to be made as well. For example, Micah noted that
cheese was used and consumed frequently in ancient Rome, but few entries about feasts
indicate any specifics of the characteristics of cheese. If used in the bread, and it often was, it likely
would have been a hard cheese. Cato described a process in his recipe, bray two pounds of cheese
thoroughly in a mortar; when it is thoroughly macerated, add one pound of wheat flour. Today s
palates would prefer a cheese with more oil in it. As it was being prepared for offering, the bread
would probably have been

Catalhuyuk Women Analysis
Part 1: During the 1960 s an archeological dig conducted by James Mellaart took place in what is
now modern day Turkey. Mellaart was just one of many archeologists who wanted to understand
the civilizations of the Neolithic age, and Catalhuyuk (an early civilization which lived in what
is now modern day Turkey) in particular. The dig led to a discovery of multiple female figurines
made from baked clay called Venus figurines. These figurines were most likely created around
5,000 B.C.E. Part 2: The Venus figurines could have been made to express the way the
Catalhuyuk people viewed women. Considering how plentiful the figurines are, historians can
infer that women were most likely worshipped. Women in the Catalhuyuk civilization could have
been worshipped for many reasons. They were capable of pregnancy which people may have
thought connected them to the earth. If they had a direct connection to the earth, they were
goddesses or special beings which would have be celebrated and praised. Because religion played
such a huge part in their everyday lives, perhaps the people created the figurines to call upon the
earth goddesses for rain, crops, or protection from illness. Looking... Show more content on

This change could have been due to the rise of agriculture. The rise of agriculture meant that men
didn t have to hunt for food and women didn t have to gather food. Naturally the men decided
that women were too weak to participate in farming so the gender roles began to become
imbalanced. The women, not having to participate in food production were now viewed purely as
tools for expanding their population. Because the clock never ticked back in time, women still
remain unequal to men this day. If women could have played a part in the agricultural revolution,

As A Kinesthetic Learner

of sitting and listening to lectures. Hands on method of learning are more efficient for a kinesthetic
learner; they prefer to use their body and sense of touch in tackling a problem instead of reading

start doing an activity instead of thinking about initiating an action. They are usually very sensitive
to their physical environment; they pay good attention to their physical environment and

The Lemon Orchard Sympathy
In The Lemon Orchard the writer creates tension and sympathy by contrasting the two characters of
the slave and the gang members creating an unequal relationship. The gang members constantly
threaten the man whilst asking him questions to intimidate him such as, do you hear, hotnot?
Answer me or I will shoot a hole through your spine. The tone in which he asks him shows how
the gang are in full control of the situation. The noun answer reinforces how demanding and
powerful the gang is and by forcing the answer they are intimidating the man and gaining a sense
of power. Despite this we feel a lot of sympathy for the man because in the relationship the innocent

They demanded the man followed their orders and if not they will have to take action. The
imperative demanded displays the hostility of the gang members and it also connotes aggression
and violence. It also implies the dominance they have over the man who we might feel sympathy
for because he is outnumbered, undeserving of the abuse and he also is innocent. The hostile
language used is reinforced when they refer to the coloured man as hotnot . This clearly
portrays how cruel they are to the man being victimised and this also shows how they have taken
away the man s identity and given him a racist, degrading name in place of that. The reader can
really feel sympathy for the man because he has been unfairly abused because of how dignified
he is throughout all of it, for example; he was cold and tried to prevent himself from shivering in
case it should be mistaken for cowardice. The verb tried reinforces his dignity but also his fear of
death and for that we feel sympathy for him. The fact they use these names really shows how weak
and undignified they really are which completely contrasts all of the characteristics of the coloured

Jean Louise s Settings
In Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, the settings play a huge role in developing the main
character, Jean Louise, and her conflict as she tries to discover who she truly is. The story is set
in the mid 1950 s in Maycomb, Alabama, where Jean Louise grew up. She says about Maycomb
that everything I learned about human decency I learned here (178). This shows how Maycomb
molded her into the person she is. At the time of the story, however, she is living in New York
City. It is the total opposite of Maycomb, for it is a big city with a lot more diversity and
acceptance of different races. When asked about how she views all the different races she sees in
New York City, she says, You aren t aware of them. You work with them, eat by and with them,
ride the buses with them, and you aren t aware of them unless you want to be (151).... Show more

One woman in Maycomb even said, I wouldn t want to get mixed up with all those Italians and
Puerto Ricans. In a drugstore one day I looked around and there was a Negro woman eating her
dinner right next to me, right next to me (Lee 181). This shows how Maycomb has changed
since she was a little girl in Maycomb and how different it is from New York City. When she
returns to Maycomb, she is forced to stand up for herself and what she knows is right because no
one else believes the same thing. Even her father has fallen into the trap of feeling like he is
superior to African Americans despite the fact that when Jean Louise was growing up, he was
known for his Integrity, humor, and patience and for being fair and equal (114). Because the town
has become so racist and segregated, everyone is becoming involved, even the most unsuspecting

Thor Video Analysis
The video begins with Heimdall standing in front of the gate as Thor and his friends approaching
him. Loki tries to talk to Heimdall however, he fails and Thor takes over the conversation and
enters the gate. Heimdall then states that the bridge will remain closed if he finds out there s any
threat that will harm Asgard. The Heimdall then places his sword into the ground that opens the
bridge which can teleport Thorand his friends to another planet. Here, I will be focusing on actors
/acting and costumes. Every actor in this video represents its role of character by their physical
appearances and their performance. Thor for example, Chris Hemsworth, a masculine white male
that clearly represent the physical appearance of a God. Moreover, Hemsworth s acting shows he
s dominance as the heir of Asgard who will later be crowned as the King. For instance, in the scene
when Loki tries to talk to Heimdall, Thor takes over the conversation by saying, Enough . At this
moment, the character blocking also tells the audience who is dominating the conversation and it is
Thor. At first he stands behind Loki, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The golden armor shows his almighty power of the guardian that keep safe of Asgard,
preventing any threats from entering from other plantets. Unlike any other characters, one can
tell that Heimdall s costumes has the greatest protection among all. Furthermore, Thor who s
costume shows he s power among he s friends and brother. Being as the only character with a red
cape, this shows he s class is higher than any others. Moreover, the viewers can tell from his
armor he is a warrior, who is fearless. Because comparing to Loki s costume, he isn t wearing any
armor that can protect him. This means Loki is more likely to be a character who uses his brain
and tongue more than waving a sword. However, in this scene we can tell from both of his acting
and his costume, Loki fails to do

Freud Vs Frankl And Freud
Running Head: COMPARITIVE PERSONALITY THEORIES OF SIGMUND FREUD AND
VIKTOR FRANKL
Comparative Personality Theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl
Luke McGeeney
William James College
For my comparison, I ll be looking at the theories of Sigmund Freud and Viktor Frankl, the creators
of both the first and third Viennese Schools of Psychotherapy, respectively. To begin with, I ll
examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. Logotherapy states that we as
human beings are conscious creatures, responsible for our choices and decisions in life. Frankl
proposed a dualistic view of human nature, which claimed that the unconscious is home to both
sides of humanity, with instinctual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to
Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering
or difficulty. And at the center of this meaning is our responsibility and human right to choose. In
Frankl s theory, we all strive to fulfill a self chosen goal, from which meaning has the potential to
be found. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn
from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as
the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our
neuroses.
This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual
s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety
and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss
the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from
one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a
responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face
of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned.
Unlike Freud s theory that mankind s

Distributed Database Vs Centralized Database
Distributed Database vs Centralized Database centralized database: In a centralized database, all
the data of an organization is stored in a single place such as a mainframe computer or a server.
Users in remote locations access the data through the Wide Area Network (WAN) using the
application programs provided to access the data. In a centralized database, all data of an
organization are kept in a single computer as a central processor or server. Users in remote
locations access data by using WAN by application software provided to access data. The
centralized database (the central processor or server) should be able to satisfy all requests from
the system; therefore, it creates restricted access. But since all data resides in a single location it
easier to maintain and support data. In addition, it is easier to maintain the integrity of data,
because once the data is stored in a centralized database, out of date data is no longer available in
other places. Distributed Database: In a distributed database, the data is stored in storage devices

The Passionate Shepherd And The Nymph s Reply
The two poems of The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply show contrasting views on
love, nature, time, and the material world. The Passionate Shepherd shows more about a positive
and naive view while in contrast, The Nymph s Reply is more about a negative and realistic
view. The shepherd gave details that idealized the natural world while the nymph criticized his
ideal world. According to the shepherd, love is innocent. In his eyes, nothing will ever change or
be unpleasant. When he says for thy delight each may morning , he describes the joy and
satisfaction that he would feel every day if she were there with him. The nymph is more careful
and reluctant to go because she knows that the things he offers, will not last forever.

How Does Hattie Change Throughout The Play
The main characters Hattie, Logan and Thebes set off on an adventure to find Thebes and Logan
s father in the book The Flying Troutmans by Miriam Toews. Hattie does not feel like a big part of
her family, but that does not change her mind on protecting, taking care of and loving them. Even if
Hattie s familymistreats and misbehaves she will still help them emotionally and physically and
protect them.
First of all, Hattie is a very loyal sister to Min, even though Hattie is loyal Min acts as if she does
not want Hattie around. Hattie will do what she can to help her sister even though Min treats her

Echo 550 and Acoustic Liquid Handling Technology
High throughput screening (HTS) is essential in the process of finding a potential drug candidate,
and automation is key for a good screen both in terms of robustness and reproducibility.
Since the day I joined Perlara, I kept hearing about the Echo machine on one of our benches back
there but it is only a couple of weeks back that I actually got to learn and use it. I knew that the
Echo 550 from Labcyte Inc. was one of the most prized possession of Perlara s automation pathway.

The technology is also capable of working with volatile liquids such as ethanol and acetone which
have low viscosity and surface tension. The ADE technology can effectively transfer a range of
solvents with varying viscosity effectively with low coefficient of variation (CV). The CV is as
low as 8% when the plate has unknown water and/or DMSO compositions. Since transfer by ADE
technology does not involve any physical contact, it minimizes the risk of contamination and/or
cross contamination. This technology also proves to be cost effective in the long run because it
does not involve the use of pipette tips. In conclusion, the Echo 550 using ADE technology is a

Martin Luther King and Malcom X, both prominent figures in the Civil Rights movement, had
vastly different views on segregation and violence. The first time these two met was at the U.S.

economics, and anti violence. One view that King had that was better for the time was his view

However, Roger discovers that Chung has taken care of him like a mother since he was born,
and develops the close relationship step by step. Nevertheless, in Bier s In a Better World,
family members in the two families are supposed to have close kinship, especially between
direct relatives. However, in Elias s family, his father and mother are arguing for a divorce, and
lacking in father s companion, he had a tense relationship with his mother. In Christian s family,
the mother died from cancer, and Christian is angry with his father because he lied to him and
promised his mom could get well soon. The conflicts between them are ambiguous at first, and
then the emotion burst out with the development of the plot. Finally, the film ends with the
recovery of harmonious kinship in these two families. Similar to Hui, Bier also takes the
approach of using details to imply the plots. For example, when Claus are collecting the old
photos, he paused when finding out a photo of his wife without her hair. Without saying a word,
this scene delivers a message of the reason of the death of Christian s mom to the audience.
However, apart from filming details, Bier also exaggerates the conflicts by recording the furious
fighting between Claus and Christian when Claus found Christian s knife. Moreover, close up shots
are used to film Anton and Marianne s communication on the phone in order to highlight their
contradiction and sorrow. In addition, when Elias is injured by the bomb then set and Christian
comes to visit him with guilt, Marianne cannot control her anger, and grabbed Christian s neck,
pushed him against the wall and shouted to

Thomas Aquinas Beliefs
Thomas Aquinas believed that God is wisdom and truth. He also believed that the ultimate end of
the whole universe is Truth and this is also the aim of the wise. This truth is incarnated in the
person of Jesus Christ. He believed that someone who seeks wisdom aims at the truth. He pointed
out that the teacher must be the role model for his or her pupils. The students will learn by
spending time with the teacher. It is not basically learning by listening. A learner must see how the
teacher is living out what he or she teaches. It is necessary that the teacher has good personality

the teacher is knowledgeable to his or her subject thus his or her students will begin to have faith

applies for the scientific understanding not only in religion. For him, we could not live in this
world without faith. Trust and faith in teaching and learning is the most important part of the
students and teacher relationship. Learning is not facilitated if there is distant relationship with the
teacher and his or her students. This will not promote the trust of the students to the teacher. The

The World Bank And Imf
As a result of the inadequacies of the World Bank and IMF, Uganda today appears to be no better
off today then as they were in the year(s) prior to acquiring the assistance in debt relief in 1998.
According to Ana Eiras; Despite such a monstrous display of resources, according to the index of
economic freedom, the Bank s money has done nothing to improve the economic freedom in
recipient countries . Erias goes on to make it clear that many of the country s who have received
assistance have seen no change or economic improvement and are just as poor as they were many
years ago. There is a distinct ineffectiveness on the part of the World Bankand IMF to effectively
utilize their plethora of economic intelligence, strategic relationships, and technical and
industrial knowledge to help a country to an improved economic state. Uganda received as

FUTURE IN THE PAST
Architecture traditionally has been the slowest of art forms. It was not unusual for great cathedrals
take centuries to complete, with stylistic changes from Romanesque to Gothic or Renaissance to

same, the form could be flexible and its growth organic . (Reflections on Baroque, 2000, p. 250).
According to Martin Filler architecture can be changeable from past to future. When looking at the

Joseph M. Juran s Life
Joseph M. Juran lived a long life comprised of many accomplishments. Using his natural gifts of
intelligence, Juran went from being a poor immigrant to being known for his quality control
expertise. He has also been known as the father of quality, and even a quality guru. This paper
gives insight into Jurans life and how he was able to work his way up to his many accomplishments.
Joseph was born in Braila, Romania in December of 1904. Five years later his father, Jakob
Juran, departed Romania and came to the United States in order better the life of his family. Three
years pass by and Joseph s father had finally earned enough money to bring his family to the United
States. The Juran family decided to settle down in Minneapolis, Minnesota and even though they
were very hopeful, poverty still took control of their lives.
During his childhood, Joseph surprisingly excelled at learning. He was so far ahead of the average
students that he eventually skipped the equivalent of four grade levels (Joseph M. Juran, 2000). In
1920, Joseph enrolled at the University of Minnesota and a short four years later graduated with a

In this paper, the trade structure between Germany and Tanzania, and its impacts to the
development of Tanzania has been analysed. The study identifies that Tanzania s major export
commodities to Germany include primary goods and few intermediate and manufactured goods,
while it imports significant volumes of finished manufactured goodsfrom Germany. By this
structure of trade, Tanzaniais perhaps locked to concentrate on production of natural and primary
goods; this has a better outcome in the short term, but leads to several problems in the long term
which can future hinder its speed of development. In this case, Tanzania needs to establish strategies

The use of a qualitative method and a telephone interview analysis were important tools in obtaining
the data needed to answer the research question. Some opportunities identified include increased
employment; export expansion, cultural interchange etc. Risks mentioned included corruption,
bureaucracy and variation in commodity price among others. Tanzania needs to make effective use
of the opportunities since it has a high economic growth potential that could see its position
advancing from a less developed country to an intermediate or even a highly developed country.
Corruption, among other risks, is presented to be a major problem in Tanzania. The author agrees
that combating corruption is not an easy action which can be done by the government alone, rather
through support from all citizens. Nevertheless, the current government has already started taking
measures to combat corruption in the country. This was evident when the Tanzanian president
started by removing top director generals and other government officials that were either
embezzling national funds or practicing corrupting procedures. It s the researcher s hope that if this
development continues, the new phase of Tanzania is likely to come which will result in increasing
trade performance and strengthened trade ties between Germany and

life. This helps determine the best treatment plan, foresee any obstacles, and set suitable goals for
the client.
C.Making sure that the client can comprehend the questions is an important aspect of an

the blatant racism and disjointed practice of religion within her mid twentieth century society. To
display these themes, she presents the grandmother and the Misfit, two exceedingly flawed and
immoral characters. However, being a Catholic writer, O Connor utilizes the Misfit to demonstrate

Therefore, the grandmother s desire to check on the state of the plantation represents her desire to
reminisce fondly about the times when slavery reigned. In the end, her perception alters, and she
is saved from this hatred. When the Misfit is about to kill her, she prays to Jesus, who answers her
prayers by bestowing grace upon her. Such grace transforms the grandmother s perception of reality
as she now says to the Misfit, Why you re one of my babies. You re one of my own children. By
declaring that the Misfit is one of her own, the grandmother realizes the interconnectedness (and,
therefore, the inherent dignity) of all humans. Watching this drastic transformation, the Misfit
observes the power of Christ with his own eyes. Along with visually witnessing divine revelation,
the Misfit also feels its impact. Before the Misfit shoots her, the grandmother reached out and
touched him on the shoulder. Within the Catholic faith, touching another s shoulder traditionally
equates to the transfer of grace between two people. Therefore, the grandma s touching the Misfit s
shoulder signifies the transfer of grace from her to him. Having never felt it before, this grace
frightens the Misfit, causing him to shoot her three times through the chest. Even though he has
received grace, the Misfit exemplifies humans capability to be overwhelmed by their emotions as

passive or an active process? Describe how osmosis occurs across the cell membrane. How can
the solute concentration of the interstitial fluid affect cell shape? Be specific. (5 points) Osmosis
is the movement of water molecules through a semi permeable membrane into a region of higher
solute concentration to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides. Osmosis is a passive
process and does not require energy like an active process would. A semi permeable membrane is
a membrane that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through, water being one of those
molecules, thus allowing water to freely flow in and out of a cell. The cell must have equal
concentrations on either side of the membrane to allow it to function, therefore water will pass in
and out of the cell to equalize the concentration of ions of both sides. Solutions of different
concentrations will pass water from the side with lower concentration to the side with higher
concentration, thus changing the cell s shape. A cell that is placed in a hypertonic solution

Boeing Case Analysis

Case 3: Boeing Company
Team 8
The five elements group: Derek Dellape : 7551
Synopsis As the largest aerospace company in the world, the Boeing Company employees more
than 153,000 people in some 67 countries. The great dominance of Boeing is due to its 1997 merger
with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, an aerospace manufacturer, and its 1996 purchase of the
defense and space units of Rockwell International Corporation, an aerospace contractor. The
corporation is the world s number one maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft with
more than 9,000 commercial planes in service worldwide, including the 717 through 777 families
of jets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, Boeing jets were involved in four fatal air accidents from December 1988 to
March 1989, and the company missed its first delivery deadline in two decades when the 747 400
experienced production delays. These internal problems were exacerbated by increased competition
from Airbus, which was heavily subsidized by a consortium of European companies and
governments. Furthermore, worldwide orders of all aircraft by the airliners declined from 1,662
in 1989 to 439 in 1991. Fortunately, in 1993 NASA selected Boeing as the prime contractor for the
International Space Station, which was called the largest international science and technology
endeavor ever undertaken. Boeing was also becoming increasingly involved in commercial space
projects and in December 1995 ten commercial space satellites were produced and launched from a
floating platform at sea.
In the middle of 1990 s, Boeing began its plan of acquisitions and in 1996 it paid $3.2 billion for
the aerospace and defense holdings of Rockwell International which was responsible for the Space
shuttle and International Space Station programs, as well as activities in launch systems, rocket
engines, missiles, satellites and military airplanes. Furthermore, in 1997 Boeing completed a $14
billion acquisition of McDonnell Douglas which was the world s number three maker of
commercial aircraft. The acquisition

Audrey Hepburn was a Winner
Audrey Hepburn Audrey Hepburn is a Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and Academy Award winner. She
has starred in numerous movies and Broadway productions. She is a film and fashion icon and
has created a name for herself around the world. Although a large amount of people have heard
of her, many don t know a lot about her life, what she did, and what she accomplished throughout
her life. Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium on May 4, 1929. Her father s job had
her moving moving between England, Belgium, and the Netherlands. She was sent to a
boarding school when she was five. The next year her father abandoned her and the rest of her
family. In 1939, she moved to the Netherlands along with her mom and half brothers. The
Netherlands were invaded by Nazis in 1940. During World War II, she suffered greatly from
malnutrition and was forced into hiding. She continued to study dance during this time and
often offered dance lessons out of her home. She and her family moved to Amsterdam once the
war was over. In Amsterdam, she studied ballet. To earn extra money, she modeled during her
free time. In 1948, she got a small role in the film Dutch in Seven Lessons. She also moved back
to London that year, where she was given a dance scholarship. Since she didn t have much
training in dance, she decided it wasn t the right thing for her. In 1954 she got married to actor
Mel Ferrer, but they divorced in 1968. She then got remarried to Andrea Dotti in 1969 and divorced
him in 1982. Audrey

Color Of One s Skin Synthesis Essay
Evolution is not a flawless process, nor will it ever be. An example of this is evolutionary
adaptations regarding the color of one s skin. A major factor that affects the color of one s skin is
how much sunlight that person receives in their environment. Sunlight is necessary for the body to
be able to turn cholesterol into Vitamin D; however, the absorption of sunlightdestroys the folic
acid in our bodies. Consequently, the color of one s skin essentially makes a compromise by
either favoring production of Vitamin D, or retaining the amount of folic acid in the body. Both
Vitamin D and folic acid are necessary for survival, so giving up one or the other can have negative
effects; therefore, making it a compromise. The pigmentation of one s

The Issue Of Juvenile Delinquency
The issue of Juvenile Delinquency has always been of great concern to society and due to the
perceived notion that the nation s future depends on the development of its youth, understanding
the factors that cause them to commit criminal activities will help identify what leads youth to turn
towards crimeand the circumstances that influence them commit criminal behaviour (Shoemaker,
2010). Modern culture is constantly bombarded with the belief system of economic wealth and
success, of achieving cultured goals and success in order to attain materialistic wealth, status and
the accumulation of money to live that lifestyle. However not everyone have equal opportunities to
obtain these goals through legitimate means and are either hindered or blocked due to various
circumstances that do not serve them well (Hoffmann, 2011). There are several factors that help
understand and link juvenile delinquencyin Urban Areas. Some of these factors include, Social
Disorganization, Unemployment, Poverty
In the research article by Chung, Mulvey Steinberg (2011), two main factors were taken into
account in order to better understand the study. The first study investigated included how poor
school academic outcomes and low levels of achievements or dropouts had an effect among juvenile
offenders. The second study investigated whether neighborhood factors had an influence on poor
academic outcomes resulting in juvenile offenders. The data obtain for the study

Nonprofit Vs. Non-Profit Research
In higher education, institution carry themselves differently depending on the mission and if they
are for profit. The difference between for profit and nonprofit is that for profit institutions tend to be
concerned with making a profit even though it might not be for the best interests of their students,
nonprofit institutions are legally bound to put their profit back into the institution. Some in the for
profit sector have been shifting from being for profit to nonprofit. Some institutions are either
buying out the for profit institutions or converting to nonprofit. Purdue University is planning to
acquire Kaplan University. The reasoning behind this acquisition is Purdue University plans to use
Kaplan University as a vendor for marketing, online education and technology, and student
recruitment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colleges and universities should be concerned with education the whole student so that when a
student completes their major that they can be critical think and analyze themselves, their chosen
profession, and lives. Nonprofit institutions to run efficiently must consider profits but, for the
right reasons. Big time sports programs are a perfect example. Some college that have big time
sports programs are concern mostly if their student athletes are eligible so that they can sell tickets
and merchandise for a profit. This works for the short term goals of revenue but, neglects that if the
student was educated and prepare for life that those would actually give back more money based
off their positive experience they had while attending the college, in hopes that other future students
could have a similar experience. This why higher education should be nonprofit because learning
and discovering should be about profit, rather developing the whole person so that they can
contribute to the world in a positive

Introduction To Invertebrate Palaeontology
In his book, Understanding fossils: an introduction to invertebrate palaeontology, Peter Doyle writes
this about the ongoing, and continuing formation of layers of the Earth:
The bodies of countless millions of organisms, microscopic and macroscopic, form whole rocks;
the invaders of the land, plants and animals, have helped shape the landscape by both accelerating
and reducing erosion.
Doyle gives an introduction to the beginnings of two scientific areas of study by explaining the
work of a Danish doctor. He explains that palaeontology has its roots in two subjects, geology and
biology. A Danish physician Niels Stensen, also known as Steno, who lived from 1638 1638, is
arguably credited with originating geology and paleontology. Discovering that sharks teeth found in
Tuscany rocks were identical to modern shark s teeth, Stensen ... Show more content on

The remains of plants and animals, are part of the strata, or layers of the earth. Several articles
discuss Phytoliths and their impact on the strata that have formed over time. A University of
Washington publication defines Phytoliths: Phytoliths are microscopic silica bodies that precipitate
in and around cells in many plants. When plant tissues decompose, the silica is deposited in the
soil, forming a record of past vegetation. They provide evidence of the plants found in the historic
layers of earth.
Work done previously by many scientists provides new information, generates new questions and
lays a foundation for continuing studies. Everything leaves a trail, or a history of itself, building
upon the history of the previous inhabitants on this planet. This makes me consider the impact I
have on the earth, my carbon footprint. I realize that I can have an impact on the history of our
planet by the choices I make. I hope my impact is positive, because I would like for the Earth to
remain fascinating for future

Management of Chronic Pain
Introduction
Long term condition (LTC) is a health problem that cannot be cured, at present, but can be
managed by medication or therapies (Snodden., 2010: p1). There are more than 15 million
people in England that are suffering from long term conditions (Department of Health., 2013).
Long term conditions are more common in older people. The percentages of people of over 60
having a LTC is 58 per cent compared to under that is 14 per cent (Department of Health, 2012).
LTC is also more predominant in more deprived groups, such as the poorest social class as it has
60 per cent higher prevalence than of those in the richest social class. (Department of Health, 2012).
According to The World Health Organisation (1999), defined painas an unpleasant sensory or
emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of
such damage. Pain is traditionally described as acute or chronic pain. The prevalence of chronic
pain (CP) is higher than of acute of pain, as it affects 7.8 million people of all ages in the UK
(Chronic Pain Policy Coalition., 2006). The current leading cause of mortality that is
accounting for 60% of all deaths is due to chronic diseases and is also a problem as causes an
increasing burden on the health care service (World Health Organisation., 2007). CP can affect a
person s quality of life if managed poorly, statistics shows that 25% of people lose their job and
22% leads to depression. (Chronic Pain Policy Coalition.,

People get so many ideas about you and it is my first day meeting some of them. I was

Laura: [quietly]: Why did you leave?
[Amanda starts to repeat what she just said.]
Why are you
Amanda: Can you please stop asking me why I left. I thought you could understand stress. You
know from working hard at work.
Laura: Mother I know you work hard. It s just that I don t understand why you would be
embarrassed.
Amanda: You know what, how about we talk about your day instead. How s that? [Her voice was
shaking as if she were about to scream.]
Laura: Please don t get mad mother. Stress leads to wrinkles and cetaphil won t get rid of them.
[Amanda pauses and sits down on the sofa in the living room for a moment, but then lowers her
head.]
Amanda [looking up]: What are we going to do, what will our future be?
[There is a ten second pause. Amanda lowers her head again]
Laura [with worry in her voice]: Did something bad also happen at work mom?
[Amanda looks up tears streaming down her face.]
Mom, What happened!?
Amanda: Just give me a minute, I ll be right back. I m just shocked [she pauses and takes a breath]

  • 2. To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is... To agree with the statement, disguise and deception is used widely by Shakespeare. Throughout the play we only see Viola in her disguise as Cesario . From Act 1, Scene 2, we see her planning on using the disguise of a man to serve Orsino. The interactions between her and the other characters show dramatic ironyas they do not realise who Cesario actually is, however the audience does. Orsino, at the start of Act 2, scene 4 says Now good morrow, friends; Now, good Cesario. Orsino does not know the actual person he is talking to when he praises Cesario, just the same when he says Cesario is semblative a woman s part , saying that Cesario looks like a woman. For Shakespeare s audience there was a heightened level of irony because at that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when Portia and Nerissa disguise themselves as men, specifically a lawyer and a clerk, as a way to save Antonio. This links into the way Viola uses an inner disguise to shield her real personality, she first goes into her disguise at the docks in Act 1, scene 2 when she says to the Captain Conceal me what I am, and be my aid. For such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent. This shows how she is covering up what I am [she is] a woman, by the personality and physical disguise of a man. From this point onwards there is comedy due to the fact that she is disguised as a man and is fooling every other character, with the audience knowing all about this. This also shows that Shakespeare respects the audience enough to not have them fooled by Viola s disguise ;and he shows more sexual equality, as Viola plays a major part in the story and without her the play would have a lot less comedy. The structure of the play relies mostly on her actions, for example there would have been no love triangle without her and all the other characters would not have been deceived by her. Therefore, there would be no dramatic irony to create amusement. So, the dramatic irony of Viola s disguise makes characters seem ignorant and ridiculous creating comedy, but also through the audience s knowledge of Viola s true identity. Shakespeare resolves this confusion by Viola revealing herself in the last act, making it a zenith ending, with all the characters present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Fight Club And The Girl With The Dragon How David Fincher uses colour in the film Fight Club and how this is used to influence the viewer. Colour in film is very important, it can change the mood of the film, influence viewers emotions as they watch, can be used as symbolism and can even teach the viewer in a very short time to expect something to happen when a certain colour is shown. The Director of Fight club and other films such as Se7en and the Girl with the Dragon tattoo, David Fincher is very well known for working closely with the cinematographer and his post production team to tightly control the colour in his films and being quite innovative in his techniques to achieve better quality of colour and control over his films. David Fincher, the director of Fight Club is well known for the certain look of his films as he has developed his own signature style, sometimes called reality enhanced as his style is natural lighting but in a new almost HD way. He uses techniques such as LED lighting, the films are dark and dank but colourful at the same time. As a usual template it seems he de saturates the picture then depending on the mood of the scene he warms up or cools off the image often times he uses blue in the shadows to add depth and to retain the crisp blackness and teal to the highlights this shows a strong understanding of how colours work together. In Fight Club, David Fincher uses his usual hues of blacks, greys and browns but also adds in yellows, blues and greens. Yellowis usually a happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, the boat names Lucky Dragon was near the place where nuclear explored and they were influenced by the nuclear weapon, the one of the people that are from the Lucky Dragon finally died after the six months. After the nuclear weaponexploded, the Godzillawas waked by the nuclear weapon and started to attack Japan. Like the William Tsutsui said in his book that the original Godzilla film(Gojira) was more than just a guy in a rubber suit smashing a model of Tokyo. Some people argue the movie Godzilla does not have a deep meaning because it copied the idea of other movies and they just want to make money. In my opinion, I have a different opinion which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book because the film Godzilla shows the anti nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both sides for humans which also reflect the influence of nuclear. First of all, the movie has a deep meaning of the anti nuclear which is The time honored story of Godzilla s genesis begins in the spring of 1954 with Tanaka Tomoyuki. (p14). In 1954, Japan was attacked by America s nuclear and they were afraid of the nuclear weapon because the Godzilla was waked by nuclear weapon at that time. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for several times and most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla waked up in the sea by the nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using fire and trampling on the buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the Godzilla just stepped on the train and also throws some parts of the train away, many people dead from his attack and restless people just ran away and show the faces that they are scared. Especially at the end of movie, the person said If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. It s possible that another Godzilla might appear...Somewhere in the world, again. which showed us that they do not want to do nuclear conducting anymore which will make another Godzilla appears again in the future to hurt people and also showed its meaning with most people s mind that afraid of the war ... President Carter subsequently issued executive order 12170, under the provision of the International Emergency Powers Act (IEPA), which froze all Iranian governmental assets within the jurisdiction of the United States . 444 days later Iran agreed to release the hostages in exchange for the return of their seized funds and the dismissal of all legal proceedings of US nationals against Iran and... judgments via those pending proceedings ; this agreement is the basis for the Algiers Accords . Executiveorders serve as immediate control measures for crises but often warrant criticism and further examination. Before the hostage crisis, Dames Moore Cooperation filed lawsuits against numerous Iranian governmental agencies. Dames was already furious about slow progress of their case in early 1980, but Carter s executive order effectively forced the cooperation to relegate the case with the newly formed Claims Tribunal. Dames doubted the constitutionality of the executive actions arguing that they exceeded constitutional limitations, so he challenged the executive order directly . Because of the severity of the events surrounding the executive order, the case was sent directly to the Supreme Court. • 6. The Development Of The Horror Genre Throughout The Years Makhi Hughes Section 5 15 November, 2016 Final Semester Paper The Development of the Horror Genre Throughout the Years Both horror and science fiction explore the boundaries of what is means to be human (Belton, 272). This is done by emphasizing the dilemmas of the figures who straddle the border of human and non human (Belton, 273). Horror and Sci fi contain narratives that take on a form of a search for knowledge that will enable the human race to overcome any obstacle that involves a supernatural force (Belton, 273); the story lines require a search or journey to resolve the issue. Horror and Sci fi often overlap when there is a monster featured in a sci fi film; or when a horror film is set in the future (Belton, 271). The two differ in purpose, horror, a sub genre for sci fi, was created to generate fear through a figure of a monster or supernatural being. While Sci fi has a chief purpose of focusing on science and reasoning (Belton, 272). The development of both genres is created to a number of works done throughout the years. The improvement of special effects, influences from the original masters of suspense, camera angles, and heightened elements of the horror film genre has allowed it to maintain its popular demand amongst audiences for decades. Although Native Americans have passed legends about werewolves, evil spirits, and monsters from tribe to tribe since before the 14th century, it was not until this time that spiritual literature emerged with the ... • 7. Active Aging Essay Active aging is defined as the maintenance of positive subjective well being, good physical, social and mental health and continued involvement in one s family, peer group and community throughout the aging process (Hofer, 2016, p.1). Active aging promotes the vision of all individuals regardless of age, socioeconomic status or health fully engaging in life within all seven dimensions of wellness: emotional, environmental, intellectual/cognitive, physical, professional/vocational, social and spiritual ( What is Active Aging, 2017). Active does not just refer to the ability to participate in the workforce or be physically active. It also refers to the continued participation in social, economic, cultural, spiritual and civic affairs. Older people who are ill, live with disabilities, and/or are retired from work can still be active participants in the lives of their families, peers, and communities. The goal of active aging is to extend healthy life and the quality of life for people as they age ( Active Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002). The active ageing approach is based on the recognition of the human rights of older people and the United Nations Principles of independence, participation, dignity, care and self fulfillment. It moves from the assumption that older people are passive (a needs based approach) to the idea that people should be afforded equality in all areas as they age (a rights based approach) ( Active Ageing: A Policy Framework, 2002, p. ... The Columbian exchange is an interchange of plants, ideas, diseases and many more things traded between the New World and the Old World during the 15th and 16th century. It all began in 1492 after Christopher Columbus went on his voyage and discovered the New World. After discovering the New World many milestones in history began to form. Following in his steps of his new discovery came some of the Europeans. Since the Colombian exchange began, many things have been brought to America and many things have been sent over in the directions. The Old World has brought over many supplies as in sugar, coffee, horses and smallpox. The Americas brought to them corn, cocoa beans, and tomatoes in their exchange. Not only did the old and the new world bring great things to each other, they also brought diseases and a decrease in the population of the new world. Instead of the old world taking in the new world s culture, it was reversed. The new world had taken in the old world s way of lifestyle. During the exchange of goods and people moving to the new world brought sickness and diseases. The most common diseases the Old World brought were smallpox, measles, malaria, yellow fever, influenza, chicken pox. The most destructive disease out of all the ones brought to America were the smallpox. Small pox is a contagious, disfiguring and a deadly disease. The loaves varied in consistency; what we call the crust of the bread today was blackened at the outer edges then dark brown towards the center with water consistency increasing substantially towards the center of the loaf. Cato provided detailed descriptions of weights of both the grains and bread distributed to the slaves. Researchers were able to estimate the weights of the breads that were likely consumed daily. This estimate ranges from 4 to 5 pounds of bread daily, from which can be gleaned that the smaller loaves were especially dense in comparison to modern bread. This would have been a large volume of food for a slave, though they were likely only fed enough to continue working. Cato listed two recipes in his De Agri Cultura LVI and both are breads for offering rituals. It is clear from the writing Cato was not himself a baker, yet the recipes are enlightening nonetheless. Several challenges were encountered when Micah attempted to follow a recipe for the bread to be used in the ritual. All ingredients are listed in pounds but in current recipes most ingredients are measured by volume. Estimation was significant to approximate quantities, and substitutions had to be made as well. For example, Micah noted that cheese was used and consumed frequently in ancient Rome, but few entries about feasts indicate any specifics of the characteristics of cheese. If used in the bread, and it often was, it likely would have been a hard cheese. Cato described a process in his recipe, bray two pounds of cheese thoroughly in a mortar; when it is thoroughly macerated, add one pound of wheat flour. Today s palates would prefer a cheese with more oil in it. As it was being prepared for offering, the bread would probably have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Catalhuyuk Women Analysis Part 1: During the 1960 s an archeological dig conducted by James Mellaart took place in what is now modern day Turkey. Mellaart was just one of many archeologists who wanted to understand the civilizations of the Neolithic age, and Catalhuyuk (an early civilization which lived in what is now modern day Turkey) in particular. The dig led to a discovery of multiple female figurines made from baked clay called Venus figurines. These figurines were most likely created around 5,000 B.C.E. Part 2: The Venus figurines could have been made to express the way the Catalhuyuk people viewed women. Considering how plentiful the figurines are, historians can infer that women were most likely worshipped. Women in the Catalhuyuk civilization could have been worshipped for many reasons. They were capable of pregnancy which people may have thought connected them to the earth. If they had a direct connection to the earth, they were goddesses or special beings which would have be celebrated and praised. Because religion played such a huge part in their everyday lives, perhaps the people created the figurines to call upon the earth goddesses for rain, crops, or protection from illness. Looking... The tone in which he asks him shows how the gang are in full control of the situation. The noun answer reinforces how demanding and powerful the gang is and by forcing the answer they are intimidating the man and gaining a sense of power. The hostile language used is reinforced when they refer to the coloured man as hotnot . Jean Louise s Settings In Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, the settings play a huge role in developing the main character, Jean Louise, and her conflict as she tries to discover who she truly is. The story is set in the mid 1950 s in Maycomb, Alabama, where Jean Louise grew up. She says about Maycomb that everything I learned about human decency I learned here (178). This shows how Maycomb molded her into the person she is. At the time of the story, however, she is living in New York City. It is the total opposite of Maycomb, for it is a big city with a lot more diversity and acceptance of different races. When asked about how she views all the different races she sees in New York City, she says, You aren t aware of them. To begin with, I ll examine Frankl s theory of existential analysis known as logotherapy. We are meant to become our truest selves by finding meaning in our lives, which, according to Frankl, can come from three places: work, love, and our attitude in the face of horrific suffering or difficulty. And if no meaning is found, there is meaning yet to be found, or meaning to be drawn from the apparent lack of meaning. Whatever the case, Frankl viewed man s lack of meaning as the greatest existential crisis, the stress of this meaninglessness giving life and shape to all of our neuroses. This will to meaning is the culmination of our developmental process. To cultivate an individual s capacity to find meaning in their life is the greatest goal, and the source of mankind s anxiety and neuroses. We all wish to find the meaning within our life, and are unfulfilled when we miss the mark. But according to Frankl, there is always meaning in life, in every single moment, from one to the next we all are capable of making a choice about ourselves, and beyond that, have a responsibility to do so. Even with the transitory nature of our existence and hopelessness in the face of certain death, there is still meaning to be found, there is still freedom to be earned. Essay On A Good Man Is Hard To Find A Leopard Can Change Its Spots: The Misfit s Moral Awakening in O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find Throughout her short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor exposes the blatant racism and disjointed practice of religion within her mid twentieth century society. To display these themes, she presents the grandmother and the Misfit, two exceedingly flawed and immoral characters. However, being a Catholic writer, O Connor utilizes the Misfit to demonstrate graces ability to convert troubled and hateful people through the metamorphosis of their moral conscious. Despite his initial lack of faith, the Misfit s moralityand attitude towards religionare transformed by the grandmother s graceful epiphany. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the grandmother s desire to check on the state of the plantation represents her desire to reminisce fondly about the times when slavery reigned. In the end, her perception alters, and she is saved from this hatred. When the Misfit is about to kill her, she prays to Jesus, who answers her prayers by bestowing grace upon her. Such grace transforms the grandmother s perception of reality as she now says to the Misfit, Why you re one of my babies. You re one of my own children. By declaring that the Misfit is one of her own, the grandmother realizes the interconnectedness (and, therefore, the inherent dignity) of all humans. Watching this drastic transformation, the Misfit observes the power of Christ with his own eyes. Along with visually witnessing divine revelation, the Misfit also feels its impact. Before the Misfit shoots her, the grandmother reached out and touched him on the shoulder. Within the Catholic faith, touching another s shoulder traditionally equates to the transfer of grace between two people. Therefore, the grandma s touching the Misfit s shoulder signifies the transfer of grace from her to him. Having never felt it before, this grace frightens the Misfit, causing him to shoot her three times through the chest. Even though he has received grace, the Misfit exemplifies humans capability to be overwhelmed by their emotions as he sprang back [from the grandmother s touch] as if a snake ... Is osmosis a passive or an active process? Describe how osmosis occurs across the cell membrane. How can the solute concentration of the interstitial fluid affect cell shape? Be specific. (5 points) Osmosis is the movement of water molecules through a semi permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides. Osmosis is a passive process and does not require energy like an active process would. A semi permeable membrane is a membrane that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through, water being one of those molecules, thus allowing water to freely flow in and out of a cell. The cell must have equal concentrations on either side of the membrane to allow it to function, therefore water will pass in and out of the cell to equalize the concentration of ions of both sides. Solutions of different concentrations will pass water from the side with lower concentration to the side with higher concentration, thus changing the cell s shape. A cell that is placed in a hypertonic solution (solution concentration that is lower than cell s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A major factor that affects the color of one s skin is how much sunlight that person receives in their environment. Sunlight is necessary for the body to be able to turn cholesterol into Vitamin D; however, the absorption of sunlightdestroys the folic acid in our bodies. Consequently, the color of one s skin essentially makes a compromise by either favoring production of Vitamin D, or retaining the amount of folic acid in the body. Introduction To Invertebrate Palaeontology In his book, Understanding fossils: an introduction to invertebrate palaeontology, Peter Doyle writes this about the ongoing, and continuing formation of layers of the Earth: The bodies of countless millions of organisms, microscopic and macroscopic, form whole rocks; the invaders of the land, plants and animals, have helped shape the landscape by both accelerating and reducing erosion. Doyle gives an introduction to the beginnings of two scientific areas of study by explaining the work of a Danish doctor. He explains that palaeontology has its roots in two subjects, geology and biology. A Danish physician Niels Stensen, also known as Steno, who lived from 1638 1638, is arguably credited with originating geology and paleontology. When plant tissues decompose, the silica is deposited in the soil, forming a record of past vegetation. They provide evidence of the plants found in the historic layers of earth.
