I wish I could ve done something differently, I wish I knew my daughter had these crazy thoughts in
her head. How could I have never noticed? How could I not notice the tension between my own two
children. It all started Friday afternoon during lunch, Jill, Jack, my husband Jessie and I were all
sitting at our old barn wood dinner table, In the middle of our formal dining room with light grey
walls and deep red accent wall. On that wall we have a bunch of picture of Jack and Jill growing up,
most of them are Jack but no one ever seems to notice. We don t have too many picture considering
Jack and Jill are only 13 and haven t gone to any school dances. They are both very similar looking as

The police are at our house trying to figure out what caused the accident but there are no leads yet. I
might have to take this into my own hands. I walk outside to the hill, there are no obvious holes in the
side of the hill where they were coming down, I don t think this was an accident. As I walked up the
hill, I could smell the fresh cut grass and see the bright green color. As I got closer to the well I could
hear the leaves blowing on the wind as I got goosebumps on my arms from the breeze. I put my hand
on the old stone well my hands instantly got cold and I could hear the water trickling in the well. I
look to my left and I see Mary and her lambs in their pasture. She s staring at me, we make eye

Teenage Pregnancy Is A Large Concern Throughout The World
Teen pregnancy is a large concern throughout the world. This is especially true in the United States
(US). In the U.S. teenage pregnancy affects 750,000 girls annually. (Silvers, 2014) According to Kate
Blackman, 1 in 4 teens get pregnant before the age of twenty and 1 in 5 teen moms will have a second
child by the age of twenty. (2015) Social media shows many aspects about teenage pregnancy and
parenthood. Because of this many young adults get to see the reality behind this subject. Even though
on the surface of a magazine cover or on the internet it may seem like teenage pregnancy is
glamorized in social media, this is not the case. There are many ways that the media truly shows the
struggles of being a teen mother. Since magazines are meant to entertain they will not show this but
almost all other social media areas will. This helps make a statement about it. Social media helps to
deglamorize and prevent teenage pregnancy.
Research has shown that social media is a large factor in the reduction of teenage pregnancy. Social
media reduces the amount of face to face interaction between young adults which results in less
opportunities for sexual activity. Between 2013 and 2014 teenage pregnancy rates dropped by
approximately 6.8% (Bennett, 2016). This evolution of social media caused this. It has changed how
young people interact and communicate with each other. Clare Murphy states that the media is often
portrayed as paving the way for risky behaviour. She continues by

Mona Lisa and Last Supper
1. The Last Supper is a mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Duke Lodovico Sforza. It
represents the scene of The Last Supper from the final days of Jesus as depicted in the Bible. The
painting is based on John 13:21, in which Jesus announced that one of his 12 disciples would betray
him. The painting is one of the most well known and valued in the world; unlike many other valuable
paintings, however, it has never been privately owned because it cannot be moved. Тhe painting
measures 460 × 880 cm and can be found in the refectory of the convent (монастырь) of Santa Maria
delle Grazie in Milan. The theme was a traditional one for refectories (трапезная; столовая), but
Leonardo s interpretation gave it much greater realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed, through early copies, that Jesus feet were in a position symbolizing the forthcoming
crucifixion. A first restoration was attempted in 1726 by Michelangelo Bellotti, who filled in missing
sections with oil paint then varnished the whole. The last restoration took 22 years and on May 28,
1999 the painting was put back on display, although intending visitors are required to book ahead and
can only stay for 15 minutes. When it was unveiled, considerable controversy was aroused by the
dramatic changes in colours, tones, and even some facial shapes. James Beck, professor of art history
at Columbia University and founder of ArtWatch International, has been a particularly strong critic. 5.
The Last Supper in culture A fine 16th century oil on canvas copy is conserved in the abbey of
Tongerlo, Antwerp, Belgium. It reveals many details that are no longer visible on the original. The
Roman mosaic artist Giacomo Raffaelli made another life sized copy (1809 1814) in the Viennese
Minorite Church. A play has also been written called The Living Last Supper, in which the painting is
depicted on stage and the twelve disciples break from the group individually and address the audience.

Universal Day Research Paper
Every year after every summer, my friends and I usually discuss what we did over that 3 month period
of time. My response is usually always the same, I stayed at home most of the summer, or I went to
visit my aunt that lives in Dallas once again, but that was not the case this year. For my cousin s 15th

Mary Jackson Physicalism Analysis
Physicalism is the view that the universe, including all that is mental, is entirely physical. Jackson s
thought experiment about Mary challenges the thesis that the actual world is entire physical. In a
scenario given by Jackson is the story of the black and white room. There, a scientist named Mary
lives her entire life in black and white. Mary has never seen everything except black and white, and
knows everything she needs to know about the calibration of the brain when one sees the color red or
blue. She can scan the brain and see the physical basis of colors, but she has never seen anything but
black and white, and there is nothing she does not know about color. But supposed that she walks out
of the room. Many philosophers argue that

The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell

The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell

The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars,
academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of
nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese
civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that
could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been
a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded
to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm
all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated
analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since
then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the
rest of the world stands.
It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of
us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life.
The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global
politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust
roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War,
where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the
spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan,
increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions
like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh
Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear

The Color Code
Importance of Color Code The Color Code is a book written by Taylor Hartman. This book talks about
four personality colors, and how a person of a certain color would act in different situation. The book
shows what would motivate someone, and what they should avoid or be aware of in their personality
type. The Color Code can improve one s school, relationship, and job success if applied to one s life
correctly. Learning the color code matters because it is important for a student to gain a better
understanding of oneself. Gaining understanding of oneself and those around you can help ones solve
conflict whether it s in school, or a work place. For example, let s say there has been a conflict in the
work environment between you and another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My core personality colors were both the colors red and white, which is odd since their core motives
are almost opposites, red being power, white being peace. As I read further into the book, I found that
when I am surrounded by other people with white personality colors, my red personality color will
come out, and lead the group with confidence and precision. But, when I am surrounded with a group
of red or yellow personality colors, my white personality would show, and I tend to close off and want
to be left alone by the others. By understanding this concept, I try to plan accordingly by choosing
groups that contains people with white personality traits. By doing this, it helps me have a better
learning experience and gives me the ability to experience leadership. Furthermore, I now understand
that when other people try to take over the situation and try to order me to do something, that causes
me to be more angry and stubborn. Realizing this ahead of time, I make sure that I prepare myself to
be acceptable to other people s points of view and suggestions, no matter how much my red
personality wants to take control of the situation. Overall, I apply the personality concepts to myself
by planning ahead of time to avoid situations that may bring negative consequences, and knowing
when I might get mad, so I can also avoid conflict. Especially when interacting with others for school
projects, I realize what situations cause me to want to take over and possible step on other people s
toes. Identifying these situations help me to let others have a chance to learn and experience things,
rather than taking over. In conclusion, the Color Code can improve success in the future by helping to
avoid conflict, having an understanding of others, and how to be more considerate toward other people
of different personality

Mexican American Racism
Mexican American (Chicano) first generation back in 1960 were not treated with respect. They were
mistreated and had to deal with racism. The school district did not offer them the same rights as any
other students, they did not give them classes to get ready for college. Thousands of students who
attended high school in Los Angeles were fed up of being treated like if they were less than anyone
else. They decided to take action and thirteenth students organized blowouts. Students started
walkouts because they were being mistreated and discriminate. They were not offered the same rights
as a white teenager. Also, they were not allowed to speak Spanish at any time during School hours.
Chicanos were dropping out of school and not graduating, only 1 out 4 students were graduating
because they were treated unequally. Mexican American students throughout the Southwest held a
60% high school dropout rate. If they did graduate, they averaged an 8th grade reading level. Due to
Anglo centric internal school policies, many Chicano students were fielded to vocational training or
classes for mentally disabled. The schools would not do anything to help them and made sure they
graduated high school. Not many Chicanos were going to college after high school because they were
not given the opportunity to go. In school, chicanos were separated from all the students and were
given different classes. Instead of getting a class to prepare them for college they would give them
classes like

The Macro Sociology Perspective
Equality seems to be now a thing in society as people believe and that females do not need to strive
for a feminist movement, however as a female myself I still believe that we have not achieved equality
and an example of that would be the education system. I m going to connect it to two of the macro
sociology perspective. Macro sociology perspective is a sociology study that focuses on the human
society on a wide scale. One of the macro sociology perspective, I m going to talk about the
educational system for the females all around the world., not all countries practice equal education
such as Bolivia, Armenia, Pakistan and Tanzania. In Bolivia thirteen percent of adult women cannot
read and write, compared to just 5% of men, but there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the rate of transition to secondary school is extremely low: just 32% in 2008, compared to
40% for boys. The proportion of girls completing a full secondary education was a drastically low
0.8% in 2010. Almost 1.2 million adolescent girls are out of school. The pattern is repeated for women
in adult and non formal education, with only 55% making it to mainstream school. In another macro
perspective all these countries have in common is that they are low developed countries and
developing countries which means either working class or middle class and they don t have the
enough money for education. These countries don t have the money to educate everyone even when
they decide to educate people they going to educate the men s because they are believed to be the
more dominant gender.
Now I m going to be talking about my second article and in this paragraph discusses about the taboo
and the negative stereotype that western society has on Islamic women and how they are treated in
their society. The perceptions we have developed is routed from the rules and regulations places on
women in Afghanistan among Taliban. This restriction that western society sees it as is primarily
focused on the dress code placed on women for example required to wear a burqa and preventing them
from going to school. To westernized culture, this restriction is seen as a discouragement to women
and shows signs of oppression on

Conservation Of Energy And A Preservation Of The Environment
Conservation of energy and a preservation of the environment are popular and active topics in today s
political world. According to Frost and Sullivan Transportation, fuel economy has risen to among the
top three important factors for current vehicle purchase (Brooke). Seeing a skyrocket in gasoline
prices and an increase in vehicular pollution shows the need for change in how vehicles are designed.
It is undeniably time to evolve beyond the status quo of the current gasoline driven automobiles that
continue to contaminate the atmosphere. The overlaying issue is that these machines consistently
pollute the world while running on a natural resource that won t last the human race for long. Neglect
for the automobile induced pollution has spread like wildfire, and has been proven to be a key player
in the cause of pollution. Change is needed, and the rise of hybrid vehicles leads the way to that
change, boasting cost effectiveness and hardware that is designed to protect the environment whereas
the petrol only based vehicle would pollute and destroy it.
In the automotive industry, there are drastic improvements and innovations in vehicular technology.
These advancements are bred by research about our world and society, helping us understand how to
revolutionize technology so that they can work as efficiently as possible. With the increase in
knowledge, society has become more aware of the carbon footprint that they leave on the
environment. In an effort to improve the

What Are the Strengths and Weaknesses of the Policy Making...
The policy making process in CA plays an instrumental role in the prosperity and quality of life that
exist today, and will exist in the future for CA. Public policy can be defined as a public response to
public problems. It s what the government says and does about these problems. Policy is when
government and nongovernmental agents work together to create solutions for the public at large. The
policy actors are formal, as well as informal; they are individuals or groups, which bring about the
influence needed to implement public solutions. There are numerous issues within CA that are
increasing the strain placed on the policy making process. The biggest challenge CA faces in the next
few decades is meeting the needs of a growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to create the best political strategy, there is no question that you must have the ability to raise
a lot of funds. The CA constitution says that governmental authority is to be shared with the voters.
They should have the ability to voice their opinions through the initiative process, the recall, and the
referendum. However, the input of the people in CA is muffled by the glass ceiling we the minorities
face. You might be wondering how we are the minority. We are the minority in CA because we don t
have the money to represent ourselves, and so we are left out in the cold. This is a problem because we
are the individuals in society that have the first hand experience, and the knowledge needed to educate
our political actors on the areas within society that need to be addressed for changes. Changes that
could affect the lives of every individual; we make up the largest part of the population of the state, we
are the foundation that supports our society, and we re the ones that are left out. The process adopted
within the policy making infrastructure today, dedicates access to those who are economically elite in
CA. Unless minorities are given the means to be heard by political actors, the instabilities in the
foundation of our society will continue to be ignored, and CA s future success will remain
unpredictable. Within the legislature there is a lot of discretion in defining, implementing, and

The Goal A Process Of Ongoing Improvements
The Goal a Process of Ongoing Improvements was Dr.Eliyahu M Goldratt first book. It is a fiction
business management novel that primarily focuses on the theory of constraints. The author Goldratt is
a critical acclaimed Israeli business manager, physicist professor, and author. He is thought of as the
guru of business operation. Goldratt is the creator of optimized production technique and the theory of
constraints. He also is the author of the following books: Production the TOC way, IT S Not LUCK,

Eliyahu M Goldratt purpose of writing this book is to introduce individuals to how to manage and
measure effectively. Goldratt illustrates how the accounting cost figures and productivity per machine
can actually be problematic for it misleads individuals into thinking they re achieving the goal. Rather
all attention should be focused on strategy planning and managing the bottlenecks because they are the
true driving metric of production. One major takeaway message from this novel is that there is always
room for improvement. This philosophy of ongoing improvement originated in a Toyotas production
system and is better know as the Kaizen theory. The Novel, stresses the Kaizen theory, which starts

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infections: Several species of Cytomegalovirus have been identified and
classified for different mammals.[6] The most studied is Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), which is
also known as Human herpesvirus 5 (HHV 5). Other primate CMV species include Chimpanzee

Artemisia Gentileschi Madonna And Child
The bond between mother and child has been a constant theme in the world of the humanities. While
that bond has been the same throughout history, its portrayal in art has varied from decade to decade.
Two artists, Artemisia Gentileschi and Mary Cassatt, chose to create pieces based on this bond, but the
use of mediums and the influence from religion (or the lack thereof) help to distinguish between the
artists and their time periods. Artemisia Gentileschi s Madonna and Child, was created during the
Baroque Period, c. 1609 (Brash), when the Catholic Church was sponsoring the arts to return to
traditions Protestantism had disregarded (Baroque Artists). Created in Rome, this painting shows the
mother, Madonna, holding her child, the young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with the difference in periods of time, both women chose to paint a mother and child in a tender
moment. One, Artemisia s show the mother preparing to feed her young, while Mary Cassatt chose to
depict a mother s embrace. Both show the unity in the maternal bond. The mothers in each of the
images appears relaxed, content with her child. In Madonna and Child (Brash) , the mother s face is
serene as she looks down at her hungry child. Her body is relaxed and leaning in. In The Young
Mother ( The Young Mother ), the mother sits, with a slight smile, giving her the appearance of bliss
and contentment in the simple act of holding her child. The child in each painting is an older baby,
instead of a newborn, allowing the artists to show the child being old enough to hold himself up and
be aware of his surroundings. By doing this, the artists were able to show the connection between the
mother and child is mutual, that the child is aware of his mother s love in holding or feeding, and feels
love in return. both artists use light to spotlight the mother and child. While the Baroque Period used
bolder light and shadow (Baroque and the Age of Enlightenment 2.14), and Impressionists focused
more on the way light fell across surfaces (Gersh Nesic), both utilized light to call attention to the
mother and child. Finally, both images focus on only the mother and child with no other beings or
distractions in the portraits. Doing this allows the viewer to become immersed in the moment and the

Comparison Of Classical Hollywood Cinema And Neorealist...
Film and realism are connected to one another; it gives the audience an opportunity to interpret the
film in their own perspective, in relation to the real world. As someone with a firm opposition to
editing and montage, Bazin stated that the mise en scène truly represents true continuity in film,
reproducing the real world more realistically. (Cardullo, 7) There are two editing systems: Classical
Hollywood Cinema and Neorealist Cinema. From their similarities and differences, it can be said that
Neorealist Cinema portrays the real world more realistically and effectively than CHC... In order to
produce Bazin s true continuity and reproduce situations more realistically, the filmmaker must choose
an effective editing system, refrain from interrupting the flow of images, and use minimal editing,
proven through the two films Bicycle Thieves (Neorealist Cinema) and Stagecoach (CHC). According
to Bazin s theory on realism, there are different forms of realism using different techniques and
technologies depending on the period. Editing systems such as Neorealist Cinema focused relatively
on the poor working conditions and the underclass, using minimal editing and manipulation to the
film. While, Classical Hollywood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Detention Argumentative Essay
Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach that man to fish and he will never go hungry. The
same can be said for behavior correction in our youth. Give the child detention, and he will not be
disruptive for a day. Teach that child how to better control their feeling and behavior, and he will make
clear minded and thoughtful choices for a lifetime. Detention is a disciplinary action that tells the
student they made a bad choice with their behavior. However, it does not teach the student how to
make better behavior choices. Detention has been around for many years as the solution for disruptive
and ill behaved children, however; the rise in diagnosed anxiety disorders among teenagers is 25%.
With suicide now the third leading cause of death among young teenagers, (Lynch, 2016) it is clear,
detention is not the solution to the problem. Meditation on the other hand, helps the students to focus

Analysis of Major General (MG) William Garrison s decision making during the Battle of Mogadishu

advantage during military ground operations. As commander of Task Force Ranger (TFR), MG

Effects Of Post Colonialism
Postcolonialism
The term postcolonialism has become so diverse and unorganized that it is somehow impossible to
define it clearly or describe what its study may imply.
Postcolonialism often means anti colonialism and is synonymous with post independence. This word
has variable implications and may refer to a collection of studies which are always changing. Loomba
(1998) said that it is a vague condition for people anytime and anywhere all over the world . The
dependence of this theory on the literary, cultural and post structural theories makes it even vaguer (p.
17).
Post colonialism may then refer in part to the period after colonialism, but the question arise: after
whose colonialism? After the end of which colonial empire? Isn t it unacceptably ... Show more

He claims that this implication covers the fact that this word belongs to the political theory and that it
is also assigned to the period after decolonization (16).
The implications of post in postcolonialism have always been a matter of discussion. Most critics
claim that the word postcolonialism concerns the processes, effects of and reactions to colonialism
from the sixteenth century up to the neo colonialism of the present day.
Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is
temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a
substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a
country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is culturally
and economically dependent (p. 7).
Childs Williams (1997) declared that one meaning of post in post colonialism can be related to those
theories which are not chronological but consider this word conceptually. In this sense it relates to
every text which its concept transcends or goes beyond the colonialism (p.

Major Determinants of Interest Rates
Major Determinants of Interest Rates
Inflation
Inflation is a factor that decisively affects the nature or outcome of interest rates. Inflation is an
increase in prices of goods and services over time (Financial Institutions, Instruments and Markets,
2012). Inflation is the natural byproduct of a robust, growing economy. No inflation, or deflation (the
lowering of prices), is actually a much worse economic indicator. Also, in a healthy economy, wages
rise at the same rate as prices. A standard explanation for the cause of inflation is too much money
chasing too few goods This is also called the demand pull theory. For several possible reasons, more
money is being spent than normal. This could be because interest rates are low and ... Show more

In other words, the rate at which one currency can be exchanged for another (Investopedia, 2012).
Exchange rates play a fundamental role in Australia s level of trade. Exchange rates are among the
most watched, analysed and governmentally manipulated economic measures, but exchange rates
matter on a smaller scale as well because an example being they impact the real return of an investor s
portfolio (Investopedia, 2012). Exchange rates and interest rates, as well as inflation, are all
interconnected. Higher interest rates offer lenders, such as Australia s four big banks; ANZ, NAB,
Commonwealth and Westpac, a higher return compared to other countries...however lower interest

The Conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire and the Success...
The successes of mystery religions in the Roman world were greatly influenced by the Roman
expansion, especially the conquest of Greece by the Roman Empire where their cultures and traditions
were adopted and modified (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). This was the foremost reason of the initial
spread of mystery religions, especially the cult of Hellenised Isis, in Rome. In addition, the political
trade involving grains and slaves also played a significant role in the extended reach of the Hellenised
cult of Isis among the Romans (Bowden 2010, p. 161). Moreover, the practices of the religion were
considered to be appealing to the women and the poor. Gender equality was promoted and the distinct
barriers between the different social classes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conquest on Greece in particular, had led to a significant increase in the number of educated
Greek slaves entering Rome (Perry et al. 2013, p. 126). According to Cumont, slaves were spreading
their beliefs to the gods of their respective countries (1956, p. 24). It is therefore not surprising for
mystery cults to enter and succeed in the Roman world. The mystery religion of Isis, for example, was
considered to be the most successful mystery religion above all (Ferguson 1970, p. 106). This is due to
the belief that Isis was ... [the] highest of the god ... (Apuleius Golden ass ex. 11.1). In addition, the
practice of Roman religion could be seen as polytheistic. Hence, people tended to yearn for greater
blessings from the gods and goddesses. In this case, Isis was considered to be an option. Moreover,
Romans valued the different practises of their conquered states and even assimilated those practises
into their own (Perry et al. 2013, p. 122). The conquests of numerous states, therefore, not only
allowed Isis cults to succeed in Roman world but also provided Rome for its necessary resources.
Political trade was another reason for the successes of mystery religions in the Roman world. To
illustrate, the cult of Isis was able to succeed in Rome through the political agreement between Rome
and Egypt in the early first century BC (Bowden 2010, p. 161; Kamm 1995, p. 96). According

Compare And Contrast The Jacobson V Massachusetts
Introduction
Hippocrates, directed his fellow physicians to help and do no harm (McCormick, 2013) which
basically brought to the bare the fact that, considerations of respect for persons and for justice have
been present in the development of societies from the earliest times.
The Jacobson v Massachusetts was in 1905 was based on a conflict between Jacobson and the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, over the validity on whether the state could coerce Jacobson to be
vaccinated. In order to control the local small pox epidemic, the State of Massachusetts adopted a
statute which required citizens who forfeited vaccination at any point during the previous 5 years to
either be vaccinated or in default pay a fine. Jacobson, based on his own conviction and thoughts,
refused both to be vaccinated and pay the fine with a claim that a previous vaccination was
detrimental to the health of himself and his son. He sued the state on the basis that the statutes adopted
by the State infringed on his liberty as enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, a plea
which was rejected by the the Massachusetts Supreme Court with a subsequent appeal to the United
States Supreme Court also upholding the statutes of the state.

The Importance of Leadership, Values and Vision in Successful Fashion Retailing.

RFRM4005: Identifying the M and E in Team
Introduction
The retail company which has been selected is Next, due to the long successful leadership skills from
CEO Simon Wolfson. This essay is going to look at how Simon has managed to keep Next running
and how he successfully leads his management team.
Looking at the history of Next it is seen that the previous CEO David Jones saw potential in Simon,
from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to rebuild their
shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since 1997 helping to
plan of the company putting it together.
How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running
successfully.
Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officer in 2001, the role was passed down
from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report
from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and
promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. If Wolfson s promotion had been blind
nepotism, the whole company would have suffered the consequences by now. Instead it has flourished.
The quote mentions the fact that if Simon didn t take over the business it may not have flourished

The Crying Of Lot 49
Trystero and the world around Oedipa are only simulations due to the fact that they have become so
layered with hyperrealism and even more simulations with all the characters Oedipa meets. She is
convinced that she is either uncovering a powerful conspiracy or she is going insane, but willing to go
wherever her investigation leads her in order to find meaning and truth behind it anyway. However,
for Baudrillard, ...it is dangerous to unmask images, since they dissimulate that fact that there is
nothing behind them (Baudrillard 169). In other words, in Oedipa s quest to unmask the clues she
finds, they are all simulations based upon other simulations without any truthful meaning at their core.
The Crying of Lot 49 depicts these layers of simulation through the clues Oedipa finds that are
supposed to reveal the truth behind the word Tristero. Her first introduction to the word Tristero comes
from her encounter of the painting, Bordando el Manto Terrestre. The real life painting by Spanish
exile, Remedios Varo, which depicts women, embroidering a kind of tapestry which spilled out the slit
windows and into a void, seeking hopelessly to fill the void (Pynchon 11). A further analysis is that
she herself is one of these women in the painting, forever weaving the clues and signs she receives,
but ultimately attempting to fill an infinite void.
Next, Oedipa hears the word Trystero in a play called The Courier s Tragedy (Pynchon 49) Then she
sneaks backstage to find

The Efficacy Of Ck2 Inhibitors Essay
AML xenograft model: For the proposed studies to test the efficacy of CK2 inhibitor in AML, we have
transduced the human AML cell line, U937 and human APML cell line, HL60 with a lentiviral vector
carrying the luciferase gene. The luciferase producing U937 and HL60 cells were injected via the tail

Peter Singer s argument that supports giving more money to charity is filled with convincing points,
but many objections to his argument are not addressed in his essay. The idea that people are entitled to

s argument. Singer somewhat addresses this objection, explaining that he met a man with the same
opposition and wanted to talk to him about how people who earn large sums of money often times do
so due to favorable social circumstances. Although this is true, it does not support the idea that people

charity. Although this would help others, it would remove the same incentive to earn money for

need these things to survive, it allows people in our society to work harder to earn things they want to

The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay
The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and
Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer
uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters.
Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over
peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly
speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative;
in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ...

Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to feel
himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware
of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as
to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her.
Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives
are far more admirable.
Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned
plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here,
before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized
and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you
are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the
preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place?
Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus
respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my side . . .
you with your gentle temper, all your gentle

Analysis Of Ayer s Moral Responsibility
Ayer s problem with holding one morally responsible for their actions when caused deterministically
is based on the fact the determinists believe that all decisions are based on casual laws which say that
one s destiny is already formed and one can not change the outcome. This gives people the illusion of
free will. The believe they can decide between say two cars, A or B, but in fact based on casual laws
they were determined, even before birth, to choose car A. Ayres states that with situations like this we
can not hold them morally responsible for their choosing of car A as it was not their choice to begin
with. According to Ayer the problem with holding someone responsible for accidental errors is that
they simply could not control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with Ayer that his first solution lead to a dead end when trying to disprove determinism. It only
made sense that going back to ones past and using previous choices made only gave the same results
to the choice being made at that present moment. Ayer did an excellent job with his second solution
and eliminating causation as an argument against free will and instead replacing it with constraints.
Once the term constraint was implemented it all began to make sense. Of course your free will is
revoked once somebody puts you into a situation where you are forced to do an action that you
normally would not have done. When he finishes by implementing his new solution of the three
conditions for what must happen in order for you to have free will he describes everything we
consider when describing free will. His only mistake is to allow somebody with a mental disorder
such as kleptomania to be excused from free will. While they may not be able to stop them selves
from stealing they are surely not making the choice to seek out help for their disorder. This is why I do
not feel that mental disorders should fall under the absences of free will. In all we do have free will
and one choice does determine other choices we must make throughout our lives. Those choices are
not determined by the universe because the events that happen in our lives are spontaneous and as I
stated before

  • 2. Jackie Monologue I wish I could ve done something differently, I wish I knew my daughter had these crazy thoughts in her head. How could I have never noticed? How could I not notice the tension between my own two children. It all started Friday afternoon during lunch, Jill, Jack, my husband Jessie and I were all sitting at our old barn wood dinner table, In the middle of our formal dining room with light grey walls and deep red accent wall. On that wall we have a bunch of picture of Jack and Jill growing up, most of them are Jack but no one ever seems to notice. We don t have too many picture considering Jack and Jill are only 13 and haven t gone to any school dances. They are both very similar looking as babies, same weight, same green eyes, brown hair and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The police are at our house trying to figure out what caused the accident but there are no leads yet. I might have to take this into my own hands. I walk outside to the hill, there are no obvious holes in the side of the hill where they were coming down, I don t think this was an accident. As I walked up the hill, I could smell the fresh cut grass and see the bright green color. As I got closer to the well I could hear the leaves blowing on the wind as I got goosebumps on my arms from the breeze. I put my hand on the old stone well my hands instantly got cold and I could hear the water trickling in the well. I look to my left and I see Mary and her lambs in their pasture. She s staring at me, we make eye contact and she quickly looks away. I started walking toward her thinking she could have known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Teenage Pregnancy Is A Large Concern Throughout The World Teen pregnancy is a large concern throughout the world. This is especially true in the United States (US). In the U.S. teenage pregnancy affects 750,000 girls annually. (Silvers, 2014) According to Kate Blackman, 1 in 4 teens get pregnant before the age of twenty and 1 in 5 teen moms will have a second child by the age of twenty. (2015) Social media shows many aspects about teenage pregnancy and parenthood. Because of this many young adults get to see the reality behind this subject. Even though on the surface of a magazine cover or on the internet it may seem like teenage pregnancy is glamorized in social media, this is not the case. There are many ways that the media truly shows the struggles of being a teen mother. Since magazines are meant to entertain they will not show this but almost all other social media areas will. This helps make a statement about it. Social media helps to deglamorize and prevent teenage pregnancy. Research has shown that social media is a large factor in the reduction of teenage pregnancy. Social media reduces the amount of face to face interaction between young adults which results in less opportunities for sexual activity. Between 2013 and 2014 teenage pregnancy rates dropped by approximately 6.8% (Bennett, 2016). This evolution of social media caused this. It has changed how young people interact and communicate with each other. Clare Murphy states that the media is often portrayed as paving the way for risky behaviour. She continues by ... • 5. Mona Lisa and Last Supper 1. The Last Supper is a mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Duke Lodovico Sforza. It represents the scene of The Last Supper from the final days of Jesus as depicted in the Bible. The painting is based on John 13:21, in which Jesus announced that one of his 12 disciples would betray him. The painting is one of the most well known and valued in the world; unlike many other valuable paintings, however, it has never been privately owned because it cannot be moved. Тhe painting measures 460 × 880 cm and can be found in the refectory of the convent (монастырь) of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The theme was a traditional one for refectories (трапезная; столовая), but Leonardo s interpretation gave it much greater realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believed, through early copies, that Jesus feet were in a position symbolizing the forthcoming crucifixion. A first restoration was attempted in 1726 by Michelangelo Bellotti, who filled in missing sections with oil paint then varnished the whole. The last restoration took 22 years and on May 28, 1999 the painting was put back on display, although intending visitors are required to book ahead and can only stay for 15 minutes. When it was unveiled, considerable controversy was aroused by the dramatic changes in colours, tones, and even some facial shapes. James Beck, professor of art history at Columbia University and founder of ArtWatch International, has been a particularly strong critic. 5. The Last Supper in culture A fine 16th century oil on canvas copy is conserved in the abbey of Tongerlo, Antwerp, Belgium. It reveals many details that are no longer visible on the original. The Roman mosaic artist Giacomo Raffaelli made another life sized copy (1809 1814) in the Viennese Minorite Church. A play has also been written called The Living Last Supper, in which the painting is depicted on stage and the twelve disciples break from the group individually and address the audience. My response is usually always the same, I stayed at home most of the summer, or I went to visit my aunt that lives in Dallas once again, but that was not the case this year. For my cousin s 15th birthday, my aunt, uncle, brother, two cousins, and I decided to take a road trip to Florida. Two months ago, I not only had the opportunity to go on another family vacation, but I was also able to scratch off Universal of my bucket list. Thankfully the ride had to go on hold due to some technical difficulties, so we decided to go on other rides instead. Then, we went on Dudley Do Right s Ripsaw Falls, a colorful water ride with an epic fall. which we loved so much that we went on it multiple times. After the rain went away, we went into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter; the scenery was breathtaking, they had all the details down perfectly and the gloomy weather made it ten times better.. There we got to go on both Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which was my favorite ride out of all of them, and the Dragon challenge. Jackson s thought experiment about Mary challenges the thesis that the actual world is entire physical. In a scenario given by Jackson is the story of the black and white room. There, a scientist named Mary lives her entire life in black and white. Mary has never seen everything except black and white, and knows everything she needs to know about the calibration of the brain when one sees the color red or blue. • 8. The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell GS 435 Book Review The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell By: Jordan Petruska Professor Tom Deligiannis Friday October 9, 2015 The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars, academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded to fifty countries with the ... The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the rest of the world stands. It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life. The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War, where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan, increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Color Code Importance of Color Code The Color Code is a book written by Taylor Hartman. This book talks about four personality colors, and how a person of a certain color would act in different situation. The book shows what would motivate someone, and what they should avoid or be aware of in their personality type. The Color Code can improve one s school, relationship, and job success if applied to one s life correctly. Learning the color code matters because it is important for a student to gain a better understanding of oneself. Gaining understanding of oneself and those around you can help ones solve conflict whether it s in school, or a work place. For example, let s say there has been a conflict in the work environment between you and another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My core personality colors were both the colors red and white, which is odd since their core motives are almost opposites, red being power, white being peace. As I read further into the book, I found that when I am surrounded by other people with white personality colors, my red personality color will come out, and lead the group with confidence and precision. But, when I am surrounded with a group of red or yellow personality colors, my white personality would show, and I tend to close off and want to be left alone by the others. By understanding this concept, I try to plan accordingly by choosing groups that contains people with white personality traits. By doing this, it helps me have a better learning experience and gives me the ability to experience leadership. Furthermore, I now understand that when other people try to take over the situation and try to order me to do something, that causes me to be more angry and stubborn. Realizing this ahead of time, I make sure that I prepare myself to be acceptable to other people s points of view and suggestions, no matter how much my red personality wants to take control of the situation. Overall, I apply the personality concepts to myself by planning ahead of time to avoid situations that may bring negative consequences, and knowing when I might get mad, so I can also avoid conflict. Especially when interacting with others for school projects, I realize what situations cause me to want to take over and possible step on other people s toes. Identifying these situations help me to let others have a chance to learn and experience things, rather than taking over. In conclusion, the Color Code can improve success in the future by helping to avoid conflict, having an understanding of others, and how to be more considerate toward other people of different personality ... The school district did not offer them the same rights as any other students, they did not give them classes to get ready for college. Thousands of students who attended high school in Los Angeles were fed up of being treated like if they were less than anyone else. They decided to take action and thirteenth students organized blowouts. Students started walkouts because they were being mistreated and discriminate. They were not offered the same rights as a white teenager. Also, they were not allowed to speak Spanish at any time during School hours. Chicanos were dropping out of school and not graduating, only 1 out 4 students were graduating because they were treated unequally. Mexican American students throughout the Southwest held a 60% high school dropout rate. If they did graduate, they averaged an 8th grade reading level. Due to Anglo centric internal school policies, many Chicano students were fielded to vocational training or classes for mentally disabled. The schools would not do anything to help them and made sure they graduated high school. Not many Chicanos were going to college after high school because they were not given the opportunity to go. According to Frost and Sullivan Transportation, fuel economy has risen to among the top three important factors for current vehicle purchase (Brooke). In the automotive industry, there are drastic improvements and innovations in vehicular technology. In order to produce Bazin s true continuity and reproduce situations more realistically, the filmmaker must choose an effective editing system, refrain from interrupting the flow of images, and use minimal editing, proven through the two films Bicycle Thieves (Neorealist Cinema) and Stagecoach (CHC). Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is culturally and economically dependent (p. 7). • 30. The Efficacy Of Ck2 Inhibitors Essay AML xenograft model: For the proposed studies to test the efficacy of CK2 inhibitor in AML, we have transduced the human AML cell line, U937 and human APML cell line, HL60 with a lentiviral vector carrying the luciferase gene. The luciferase producing U937 and HL60 cells were injected via the tail vein into NOD.Cg Rag1 Il2rg/SzJ (NRG) mice. After 3 5 days, engraftment of AML cells was confirmed by bioluminescence imaging documenting one log increase in quantitative signal measured by the IVIS Xenogen reader. Pilot results in two animals demonstrate that both U937 and HL60 luciferase producing cells successfully established leukemia (Fig 6). Thus, we have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed experiments by establishing two luciferase tagged AML murine xenografts models in which to assess therapeutic efficacy of CX 4945. Experimental approach: 2.1) Test the therapeutic efficacy of CX 4945 in AML cell line derived murine xenograft model We will use 4 6 weeks old female, NOD.Cg Rag1tm1Mom Il2rgtm1Wjl/SzJ (NRG) mice to create AML xenograft models. Ten mice per treatment group will be injected with 2x106 luciferase expressing U937 cells via tail vein. After confirming engraftment by using bioluminescence imaging, treatment with CX4945 will be initiated. Visible signal or one log increase in signal will be used as indication of engraftment. The treatment group will receive CX4945 at 100mg/ kg via oral gavage, five days a week for three weeks and the control group will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Peter Singer Charity Peter Singer s argument that supports giving more money to charity is filled with convincing points, but many objections to his argument are not addressed in his essay. The idea that people are entitled to their money and therefore can do whatever they want with it is one of the biggest opposition to Singer s argument. Singer somewhat addresses this objection, explaining that he met a man with the same opposition and wanted to talk to him about how people who earn large sums of money often times do so due to favorable social circumstances. Although this is true, it does not support the idea that people should be obligated to spend their money on charity, even if the money they earned was through lucky circumstances that others have not experienced. Although this would help others, it would remove the same incentive to earn money for pleasure and the reward of spending money on things we enjoy. Even though we do not nessasarly need these things to survive, it allows people in our society to work harder to earn things they want to spend money on. Spending money is good for our economy and if we instead, donate all of the extra money we earn to charity, we are removing large amounts of american money from our economy to be given away to other countries. Singer supports the idea that those who are able to provide for themselves should be obligated to donate extra money to charity and foreign aid. Helping those in need is a good action, but an excessive amount of money being removed from America and placed into other countries economies could lead to many suffering in our own country. Not only could the removal of large amounts of money affect our own economy negatively, but also could create a dependency problem between developing countries and the aid we ... • 35. The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to feel himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that he is aware of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives are far more admirable. Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When her fears are realized and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are you to [Astyanax], now you are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of pride: How can one justify the preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one fought for in the first place? Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my side . . . you with your gentle temper, all your gentle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of Ayer s Moral Responsibility Ayer s problem with holding one morally responsible for their actions when caused deterministically is based on the fact the determinists believe that all decisions are based on casual laws which say that one s destiny is already formed and one can not change the outcome. This gives people the illusion of free will. The believe they can decide between say two cars, A or B, but in fact based on casual laws they were determined, even before birth, to choose car A. Ayres states that with situations like this we can not hold them morally responsible for their choosing of car A as it was not their choice to begin with. According to Ayer the problem with holding someone responsible for accidental errors is that they simply could not control the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with Ayer that his first solution lead to a dead end when trying to disprove determinism. It only made sense that going back to ones past and using previous choices made only gave the same results to the choice being made at that present moment. Ayer did an excellent job with his second solution and eliminating causation as an argument against free will and instead replacing it with constraints. Once the term constraint was implemented it all began to make sense. Of course your free will is revoked once somebody puts you into a situation where you are forced to do an action that you normally would not have done. When he finishes by implementing his new solution of the three conditions for what must happen in order for you to have free will he describes everything we consider when describing free will. His only mistake is to allow somebody with a mental disorder such as kleptomania to be excused from free will. While they may not be able to stop them selves from stealing they are surely not making the choice to seek out help for their disorder. This is why I do not feel that mental disorders should fall under the absences of free will. In all we do have free will and one choice does determine other choices we must make throughout our lives. Those choices are not determined by the universe because the events that happen in our lives are spontaneous and as I stated before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
