The document provides an overview of the packaged drinking water industry in India. It discusses the raw materials, manufacturing process, machinery used, sales and distribution, and problems faced by the industry. The key points are:
1) The packaged drinking water industry in India is growing rapidly due to increasing awareness of safe drinking water and a large population. Large brands like Bisleri and Kinley have established themselves successfully.

The document describes the production process, machinery needed, management team, and marketing strategy which includes an aggressive pricing strategy to compete with major players and an advertising campaign focusing on purity and refreshment. The document discusses the negative impacts of bottled water on the environment, health, and finances. It notes that bottled water production uses vast amounts of plastic and fossil fuels, contributing to pollution and climate change. Studies have also found associations between BPA in bottled water and increased risks of heart disease and diabetes. Canadians spend over $15 billion annually on bottled water that is often no safer than tap water. The document recommends using water filtration systems instead of bottled water to avoid these issues and protect the environment and personal health.
The Indian bottled water industry has grown rapidly in recent decades. Consumption has tripled from 1999 to 2004 and India now ranks among the top 10 consumers worldwide. This growth is due to failures in public water infrastructure that leave many urban and rural citizens without reliable access to safe drinking water. Bottled water companies have risen to fill this need, though the water can be hundreds of times more expensive than tap water. While the market is dominated by large national brands, many local and unregulated vendors also operate. Issues around the sourcing, treatment, and regulation of bottled water quality remain an ongoing concern.

Water is required not only to quench your thirst, but also to provide you with vital nutrients. Contaminants in water, on the other hand, may have a negative impact on your health. This is why you must pay attention not only to the water purification process but also to how you store water. Many of us have developed the habit of storing water in plastic bottles, which is harmful to our health.

The document summarizes the sources and treatment process of wastewater. It discusses how wastewater is produced from various household and industrial sources and flows into sewer systems. It then outlines the main steps of wastewater treatment plants, which include screening, grit removal, sedimentation, aeration, and disinfection. Large solids are screened out, while grit and sludge settle in tanks. Aerobic bacteria digest waste in aeration tanks and the clarified water is further treated before being released or used.
This document provides information about the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) movement against the construction of large dams on the Narmada River in India. The NBA, led by Medha Patkar, mobilized farmers, tribal people, environmentalists and human rights activists starting in 1985 to protest the Sardar Sarovar Dam project. They argue it will displace over 250,000 people and damage the environment and livelihoods. While proponents say it will provide power and water, the NBA advocates for alternative technologies with less environmental and social impact. The movement has gained international support and used protests, hunger strikes and media coverage to pressure decision makers.

SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER
TYPES OF DRINKING WATeR
About Water
97% of the water on the Earth is salt water. However, only 3% percent is fresh water; slightly over 2/3 of this is frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps.
The remaining unfrozen freshwater is found mainly as groundwater, with only a small fraction present above ground or in the air.
Fresh water is a renewable resource
Surface water
Surface water is water in a river, lake or fresh water wetland. Surface water is naturally replenished by precipitation and naturally lost through discharge to the oceans, evaporation, and sub-surface seepage
Ground Water
Sub-surface water, or groundwater, is fresh water located in the pore space of soil and rocks. It is also water that is flowing within aquifers below the water table
The document analyzes the demand and supply factors of the packaged drinking water industry in India. On the demand side, key drivers include a shortage of safe drinking water, increasing consumer awareness and purchasing power, and growth in domestic and foreign tourism. Supply is boosted by low production costs due to unregulated groundwater extraction. However, supply faces challenges from archaic laws, scarcity of raw materials like water, and issues with availability of labor, transportation and power. The packaged drinking water industry has experienced significant growth over the past decade and is expected to continue expanding.
This document provides biographical information about Reeti Bhattacharyya, a class 10 student, including her name, class, roll number, and school details. It then lists the various science and social science topics she has studied that relate to water, including chemistry, biology, physics, geography, political development, and economic development. The document proceeds to provide more details on several of these topics, including hardness of water, recycling water, water as a source of energy, water as a resource, and sustainability. It also discusses various water-related movements in India such as the Narmada Bachao Andolan.
Packaged Drinking Water with PET Bottles - Market Survey cum Detailed Techno...Ajjay Kumar Gupta
Water is the necessity of our daily life, it’s so important for us that we need clean, safe and sanitary water every day, and usually there’s a more strict inspection standard in the more advanced country.
Potable spring waters containing, sulphur iron, magnesium and other mineral salts occurring in certain regions are claimed to be beneficial to human metabolism. The therapitic value of such waters is questionable carbonated mineral waters also contain lithium salts.
There are two kinds of drinking water in the market. One is the natural water, which is called mineral water. The other is processed water coming from underground or from the pipe of water plant, which is called R.O. water, space water or pure water.

Packed drinking water is water that has been
filtered and disinfected in some way, such as by
filtration, UV or ozone treatment, or reverse
osmosis (RO), and then packaged in plastic or
glass bottles or pouches for our use. A liquid
cannot contain sweeteners or chemical additives
(other than flavours, extracts, or essences) and
must be calorie-free and sugar-free to be
considered "bottled water."
3. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
PET, also known as PETE or Polyethylene
Terephthalate, is a solid, rigid synthetic fibre
derived from ethylene glycol and terephthalic
acid. PET is used in almost every plastic water
bottle on the planet. But what are the
characteristics that make it such an excellent
food packaging material? PET containers are
not only lightweight, but they also do not react
biologically with food.
PET
4. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Apart from that, PET is a durable, non-reactive,
cost-effective, and shatterproof material that is
likely to save the day. PET's protection in food,
beverage, and personal care products, as well as
pharmaceutical and medical applications, has
been acknowledged by health authorities all
over the world. One of the main reasons why
many manufacturers choose PET is that it is
100% recyclable and highly sustainable.
5. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
It can be recovered and recycled several times –
– into personal care product tubes, carpet and
clothing fibres, vehicle components, building
materials, industrial strapping, and other
packaging materials, for example.
7. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Fluoridated water is water that has had
fluoride applied to it. Water labelled "For
Infants" or "Nursery" falls into this group.
Ground water is water that comes from an
underground source with a pressure that is
equal to or greater than atmospheric pressure.
8. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Hydrogen water is similar to carbonated water
in that it contains dissolved hydrogen gas.
Mineral water is water from a mineral spring
that contains salts and sulphur compounds,
among other minerals. It comes from a
geologically and physically covered underground
water supply that can be tapped from one or
more bore holes or springs. This water cannot
have any minerals attached to it.
9. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Purified water is water that has been purified by
the use of distillation, deionization, reverse
osmosis, or other appropriate methods.
"Demineralized water" is another term for
purified water.
Sparkling water produces the same amount of
carbon dioxide as it did when it first emerged
from the source. After therapy, the carbon
dioxide can be removed and replaced.
10. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Spring water- Water that emerges from an
underground formation and flows naturally to
the Earth's surface is known as spring water.
Sterile water– this form of water meets
sterilization standards, such as those outlined
in the United States Pharmacopoeia's "sterility
tests."
12. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
MANUFACTURINGPROCESS
Hypo Chlorite Dosing System:
The process begins with raw water being
pumped into water tanks for chlorination.
Dosing pumps are used to chlorinate them with
an HDPE hypochlorite solution. It removes
living microorganisms from the water and
stores them in tanks with PVC pipes and a level
indicator.
13. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Sand Filtration:
The water is pumped through the sand filter
unit under pressure. This device is used to
isolate turbid particles. When raw water is
released, it travels downward through the sand
bed. It traps particles that are suspended in the
air. However, these sand beds must be
maintained on a regular basis.
14. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Activated Carbon Filtration:
After chlorination, raw water can have an odour,
colour, or minute particles. To get rid of them,
there are huge activated carbon reservoirs.
Water is purified and ready for the next phase
after passing through these carbon tanks.
15. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Anti Scalent Dosing:
Precipitation is needed for elements such as
salts, calcium, and magnesium that are present
in excess quantities. If they reach the solubility
limit, the water nutrient level is jeopardized.
The Reverse Osmosis System:
The RO method removes dissolved solids from
the water after it has been cleaned. It's a device
that passes highly concentrated water through
a semi-permeable membrane with micro filters.
16. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Adding Mineral System:
The taste of RO-treated water with low TDS is
unpleasant. Physical minerals are applied to the
tank at this point to give it a flavour and
nutrient level. It also controls the amount of
TDS in the water.
17. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
UV Filteration:
Although the RO water is free of impurities, it
can redevelop after extended storage. As a
result, an ultraviolet steriliser with high ultra-
violet ray filters eliminates even the tiniest
chance of any microorganism redeveloping.
18. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
Ozone Generator:
It is important to maintain high quality
standards in mineral water. As a result, before
bottling, the water is passed into Ozone tanks.
Purified water is given a boost of oxygen via this
process. The oxygenated water is now ready for
bottle filling via the bottling unit's pumps and
pipes.

INDIANSCENARIOOFBOTTLEDWATERMARKET
The demand for bottled water in India is primarily due to a
lack of safe drinking water due to an enormous increase in the
population, inflow of foreign students and visitors, poor
quality of tap water, and the ease with which bottled water
can be obtained, as well as a rise in health awareness. Since
the government has failed to provide safe drinking water in all
areas, private players have stepped in to fill the void while
also establishing a thriving market.
20. www.entrepreneurindia.co www.niir.org
The best mineral water companies in India are concentrating
on increasing market share through effective marketing
strategies and appealing packaging. The market was worth Rs
