The document discusses the negative impacts of bottled water on the environment, health, and finances. It notes that bottled water production uses vast amounts of plastic and fossil fuels, contributing to pollution and climate change. Studies have also found associations between BPA in bottled water and increased risks of heart disease and diabetes. Canadians spend over $15 billion annually on bottled water that is often no safer than tap water. The document recommends using water filtration systems instead of bottled water to avoid these issues and protect the environment and personal health.

Bottled Water: More Than Just a Story About Sales Growth; Stringent Federal, State and Industry Standards Help Ensure Safety, Quality and Good Taste
[New York] 09 Apr 2007:
ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The InternationalBottled Water Association (IBWA), in conjunction with Beverage MarketingCorporation (BMC), today released bottled water statistics for the year 2006,compiled by BMC. These numbers show that U.S. bottled water sales andconsumption continue to rise, as consumers increasingly choose bottled waterover other beverages.
The latest upward trend was reflected in 2006 when total bottled water volume exceeded 8.25 billion gallons, a 9.5 percent increase over 2005, and the 2006 bottled water per capita consumption level of 27.6 gallons increased by over two gallons, from 25.4 gallons per capita the previous year. Additionally, the wholesale dollar sales for bottled water exceeded $10.8 billion in 2006, an 8.5 percent increase over the $10 billion in 2005. These statistics demonstrate continued consumer demand and appreciation for the convenience and good taste of bottled water brands consumed on-the-go, during exercise, at restaurants or meetings, and at home or the office. However, consumers should also know that bottled water safety and quality result from multiple layers of regulation and standards at the federal, state and industry levels.
Bottled water is comprehensively regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a packaged food product, and has issued stringent standards for safety, quality, production, labeling, and identity. Along with the FDA's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), which are required of all foods, bottled water must comply with several other applicable regulations, including Standards of Identity, Standards of Quality and additional, specific bottled water GMPs. Being a packaged food product, bottled water is also bound by the Nutrition Labeling Education Act (NLEA) and the full range of FDA protective measures designed to enforce product safety and protect consumers. States also regulate bottled water inspections, sampling, analyzing and approving bottled water sources. Testing laboratory certification is another area where states may regulate bottled water. As part of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, IBWA members voluntarily utilize the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) for a science-based approach to bottled water production and safety. FDA recognizes HACCP as a key component of food safety and consumer protection.
"While all beverages have their role in a marketplace with an abundance of drink choices," says Stephen R. Kay, IBWA Vice President of Communications, "consumers are choosing bottled water as a refreshing, hydrating beverage and as an alternative to others that may contain calories, caffeine, sugar, artificial colors, alcohol or other ingredients, which they wish to moderate or avoid. For instance, during 2006, individual ...

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

A Solution For Bottled Water
1. Do you know all the facts of Bottled
water...
IF YOU DON’T THAN LET’S JUST SAY YOU ARE IN
FOR A SHOCK!!!!
You pollute the Earth....
You Risk your Health....
You spend and waste your Money.....
All for bottled water????
Think about this.....................
3. The Impact on Our Environment
According to a 2001 report of the World Wide
Fund for Nature (WWF), roughly 1.5 million
tons of plastic are expended in the bottling of
89 billion liters of water each year.
Statistics Canada says nearly one-third
of all Canadian households are
choosing bottled water over tap water,
and the data indicate those numbers
are still on the rise; plus 40% to 80% of
empty bottles end up as solid waste.
4. The Impact on Your Health
A study published in September 2008, examined BPA exposure in
humans. The study, which included 1,455 American adults, found
that 90% of participants had detectable levels of BPA in their urine.
Researchers said those with the highest levels of BPA
concentrations in their urine had nearly three times the odds of
cardiovascular disease, compared with participants with the lowest
levels of BPA. The study also found people with high BPA levels
had 2.4 times the odds of Type 2 diabetes in comparison with those
with the lowest levels.
Some forms of filtration and reverse osmosis systems can
be problematic as well in that they strip water of minerals,
essentially creating distilled (or dead) water, which can over
periods of prolonged use have the effect of actually
removing essential minerals from the body.
Water is the most essential nutrient – humans, animals and
plants can not live without it. Therefore, it is important to
ensure the water you consume and use has a high level of
vitality.

5. The Impact on Your Money....
According to the Polaris Institute - One billion
bottles of water are consumed by Canadians every
year. It takes three litres of water for the production
of a single plastic bottle, which contains an average
of one litre of water.
One billion bottles at an average cost of $1.50 totals
15 BILLION DOLLARS
6. Five Reasons to Avoid Bottled Water
1. Bottled water leads to water shortages
In Canada, we are not immune to the growing threats of water scarcity20% of municipalities have
faced shortages in recent years. According to Maude Barlow, Canada is a net exporter of bottled
water, selling its ancient glacier waters all over the world mostly for the profit of the foreign-owned,
big four water companies. ―Most provinces charge these companies next to nothing to extract this
water from springs and aquifers, and whole watersheds are now under threat from this practice,‖
she argues.
7. 2. Bottled water contributes to climate change
In an era when the world is dealing with the impacts of climate change, the bottled water industry
requires massive amounts of fossil fuels to manufacture. According to the Bow River Keeper, a
citizens’ group aimed at protecting the Bow River watershed, a quarter of the 89 billion litres of
bottled water consumed every year is consumed outside the country of its origin. Hence the
transportation of bottled water also produces large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. The
Bow River Keeper estimates that ―the manufacturing and transport of one kilogram bottle of Fiji
water consumes 26.88 kilograms of water (7.1 gallons) 0.849 Kilograms of fossil fuel (one litre or
0.26 gal) and emits 562 grams of greenhouse gases (1.2 pounds).‖
8. 3. Our landfills cannot support bottled water
Canadian municipalities are dealing with a waste management crisis and our landfills
cannot support the amount of garbage generated by the bottled water industry.
According to a recent Toronto Sun article, ―as few as 50 percent of the water bottles
Torontonians consume everyday are actually being recycled. That means as many as 65
million empty plastic water bottles per year end up as garbage in a landfill waste
site.‖ In some communities the percentage of bottled water ending up in landfills can
be as high as 80 percent.
9. 4. Bottled water is not safer
In order to persuade people to spend 200 – 3000 times what they spend on tap water,
bottled water companies advertise their product as a safer and healthier alternative.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Bottled water is regulated as a food product under
the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. As such, according to the Polaris Institute, water
bottling plants are inspected on average only once every three years. Regulation of tap
water on the other hand, is far more stringent. In general, municipal tap water is tested
continuously during and after treatment.
10. 5. Water is a human right
The bottled water industry has worked hard to undermine our faith in public water.
Canada has one of the best public drinking water systems in the world. The Council of
Canadians has focused its efforts on fighting for a national water policy that would
improve the public system and ensure clean drinking water standards for all
communities across the country because we believe water is a human right and should
be guaranteed to all people regardless of their ability to pay. We hope the wonderful
efforts to ban bottled water in schools across the country will also be coupled with
educating children to address the global water crisis by caring for and promoting water
as a public resource and a human right.
11. How can you help?
Research shows that for a fraction of the cost, everyone on the planet could
have safe drinking Water.

You think of Going Green

Mother Earth and your wallet Green
