Soft Body Caterpillar Robot More Efficient Than Current...
Adrian Hammer
Hypothesis:
Soft body caterpillar robot more efficient than current robots.
Topic:
To understand why the inspiration of the common caterpillar is used to create the next generation of
soft structure robots and what they will be used for once they are completed.
Description:
The caterpillar inspired robot is one of the first of its kind using a soft body to mimic that of its
inspired. This is one of the main major points of why I choose to pick this instead of any other biology
related topic simply because if it is the same size as a caterpillar it can be used in a vast majority of
different common day practices.
Relevance:
Since this a new improvement upon current robotic technology all its uses are currently unknown but
with the size of a caterpillar it can adapt to a variety of uses such as doctors. Currently doctors use
small cameras attached to a long wire to observe internals but now with this caterpillar it may be
possible to place this inside a body without the help of aesthetic in a few minutes instead of a lengthy
procedure.
Economically it can open up a variety of jobs in the robotics industry creating more work. This can
then be used to try new technologies, materials and replacing outdated technologies.
Ethically it can be used in a variety of medical practises. Just like stated above it can observe organs
and reduce surgery time. If someone had a blood clot inside them, instead of going into a lengthy
procedure of cutting someone open

Essay about The Change of Bond Girls
The Change of Bond Girls In Adams article Bond Girls:gender, technology and film she says that the
question, how have Bond girls changed? Blonder, dumber and thinner would not be an uncommon
reply. Some of the results of my questionnaire seemed to support this idea. When asking participants
to use one word [they] associate with Bond girls a massive 80% said sex . This showed me that the

I took notes on four main themes regarding; Bond s relationship and treatment of the women, the roles
of the women in the film (how key they were to the plot), and the social depiction and life of their
character in the film and their sexual relationship with Bond.
Through textual analysis I discovered that in three of the main themes excluding the latter there had
been significant development. Comparing two of the themes:Bond relationship and treatment of the
women and their importance to the plot in films throughout the franchise, I found that in earlier Bond
films throughout the Sean Connery era (Dr No. to Never say never again) and the beginning of the
Roger Moore era up to The man with a golden gun, generally showed Bond girls in a more
subordinate role to Bond. In Goldfinger Bond slaps a girl on the bottom and tells her man talk! when
his fellow agent arrives prompting her to leave, exhibiting her unimportance. Bond also tricks solitaire
into having sex with him by fooling her with trick cards in Live and let die. He also handles women
roughly, slapping them around for information or twisting their arms around their back (Dr No.). In
films such as The man with the golden gun girls such as Goodnight, is portrayed as being a hindrance

Color Vision Development in Infants
Color Vision Development in Infants: The Responsibility of Cone Types and Wavelength in Order of
Color Development It is a wonderful thing to witness a sunset and see all the various colors that occur
in our world. What would it be like if we didn t view the sunset with all the beautiful colors that are
perceived in it? According to Brown, Lindsey, Mcsweeney, and Walters, (1994) without factoring in
brightness, newborn infants cannot differentiate between colors. This was found by testing infants in
forced choice preferential looking experiments or FPL experiments (Brown et al., 1994). It is
astonishing to think that we haven t always viewed the world in various vibrant colors. So at what
point do we as individuals develop full color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Infants that were aged 4 weeks and 9 weeks were evaluated in a study that looked at red/ green color
and it was found that the responses to the stimuli for nine week old infants were greater in response to
the stimuli than four week old infants (Teller Palmer, 1996). Is it possible that the younger infants in
the study by Teller and Palmer (1996) had not yet fully matured their s cone receptors? At what age
does the color green develop in infants? Does the amount of s cones we have contribute and affect the
order in which we develop color? According to a blog by Jones (2013), a retinal neuroscientist and
photographer, tritanopia colorblind people have s (blue) cones absent and have issues deciphering
between blue and green, infants might not be able to see blue yet (Robin, 2014), so as a replacement
for blue, I am going to use gray as the comparing color. I predict that infants three weeks old will see
the green and gray colors differently, and have an increase in gaze time on the color green while
previously viewing gray or red.
Hypothesis
Infants that are three weeks old will be at the beginning stages of maturing s cones, which should
enable them to begin viewing green and will in turn prefer the color green (longer gaze time) because
it is new in their development of color. Independent variables of the study will be which color is
shown to the infants.

Andrew Carnegie A Captain Of Industry
Captains of Industry Captains of Industry were very important in the reconstruction of America after
the Civil War. These people s fortunes impacted the country very positively in its time of need. One of
these Captains is named Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania at the
young age of thirteen. After his father failing multiple times to start a handloom business, Carnegie,
like many commoners, worked as a labourer earning only $1.20 a week. Surprisingly, a game of
chequers between his uncle and manager of a local telegraph office is what led Carnegie on the road to
wealth and fortune. Andrew was known as a robber baron, or wartime profiteers who would
manipulate the stocks and bonds. Carnegie became the first

Chelan High School Research Paper
My school work and education are taken seriously. I know that my education will certainly affect my
future. My last two years at Chelan High School, I have found what I truly value in work that I will
take with me to college. I ve learned that when I don t understand a topic that the teacher is
explaining, I shouldn t be afraid to ask questions so I can grasp the idea. With all my assignments and
the heavily interactive projects, I perform strongly, even if I have a limited amount of time. Although
in my class, I understand that I m not the person with the best grades, but I still work strongly.
Throughout my life, I have been through harsh obstacles. With those obstacles, I have experienced
stress, and I believe that I work well under stress.

Exploring Our Inner self in Cyberspace
Cyberspace is a new communication medium which enables us to understand our social behavior. In
the real world and virtual world, we understand ourselves by developing aspects of our identity.
However, in the virtual world, we can explore our inner self without rejection that may be experienced
in the real world. Cyberspace is, thus, a psychological space to build and form, explore and discover,
and accept and understand ourselves. To explain this, we must view this on an individual and
collective perspective. Identity in cyberspace allows an individual to construct themselves, and culture
in cyberspace allows individuals to engage in social interactions which involve identity ... Show more

In Donath and Palloff perspective, people use this psychological space to simply vent or act out their
fantasies and the frustrations, anxieties, and desires that fuel those fantasies. (Lopez Martinez, 2001)
This shows that we occasionally repress our true feelings and fantasies. Therefore, we go online and
feel comfortable in expressing our feelings and fantasies. Cyberspace is more of an opportunity to
better understand themselves, as a path for exploring their identity... (Lopez Martinez, 2001) It is clear
that cyberspace is limitless and this opens doors to find your true self. Since we can create different
characters and environments, we are playing a game of ourselves and discovering who we are and
who we wish to be. Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson believed ...play [is] a toy situation that allows us to
reveal and commit ourselves in its unreality. (Turkle, 1996) Cyberspace help people express
themselves using words and, in a humanistic perspective, this process is called self actualization. The
outcome is sometimes good because people report being more like their true self offline.
The Internet has evolved to become a social medium which allow people to communicate. This started
in the early 1990s, where critics claim the Internet will become an information highway. Then the
internet made room for cyberculture, an online space reserved for

Examples Of View Of Paul In Tangerine
The main point of this story, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, is how the people who are looked down
upon see from different points of view. An example of this is the main character, Paul, who is
considered blind by many and is often looked down upon in society, however, he often sees what
others do not and has excessive knowledge of the world around him. Even though he sees everything,
he does not say what he knows and others do not ask him, for they believe he has no knowledge of the
problems. After moving to Tangerine, he sees his brother doing horrible things and his parents none
the wiser. His friend suffers at the hands of his brother and is eventually killed, and afterwards, Paul
feels much guilt for the words unsaid. Since Paul is often looked down upon, he notices facts and
clues society does not, however he fears saying something, in which causes his friend to be murdered.

It is as if Paul lives in the sun and knowledge of the world, baring that burden while others in society
live in darkness with slight sliver of light from the moon believing they know the world to its full
extent when in reality they are blind and in the dark. This affects Paul since he possess ideas from
another point of view that others have no clue about. This is important because without the knowledge
that Paul posses, he would be like his none the wiser parents, which would affect the story a great
deal. For example, on page 152, Paul tells his friend, Don t do this. Don t come in here with attitude.
Paul knows how to adapt to the places around him and knows that by accepting the facts and the brunt
of the blow, they will accept him begin to

Hinduism And Confucianism Similarities
Matt, I do agree that there are similarities between Hinduism and Confucianism; however, despite
both societies, placing a premium hierarchy and authoritarianism, their internal motivations and
ethical paradigms are widely divergent. I am going to incorporate the input you provided on my
original thread regarding this topic as well. I tend to recycle my rhetoric so bear with me.
In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious
history in India. Emanating from the Vedas, the Upanishads and other religious texts, it was a fertile
field enriched by practitioners from different Hindu philosophical schools and late by Jain s and
Buddhists. Bar Council of India, History of Hindu Law in India ... Show more content on

Xin Ren, Tradition of the Law and Law of the Tradition: Law, State, and Social Control in China 19
(1997). Although both of them exerted a deep influence on China s state building as well as on its
moral and legal traditions, at the beginning, these two philosophies were bitterly opposed to each
other, as they were based on entirely different principles. Id. Despite their differences, Legalism and
Confucianism both endorsed the concept of the absolute monarchy. Id. China s current has a legal
system reflecting some aspects of contemporary civil and common law as practiced in the Western
legal traditions; however, China s legal system has often been based on Confucian philosophy, which
accentuates social control through moral education and a juridical priority regarding coded law and
criminal sanctions. Percy R. Luney, Jr., Traditions and Foreign Influences: Systems of Law in China
and Japan, 129 (1989).
In conclusion, the difference between Confucianism and Hinduism can be observed in their differing
worldview despite some overlap in social conventions. Hinduism s focus is on mystical objectives (not
to be confused with the law of India), as it dismisses reality as we understand it as illusionary.
Confucianism s focus is squarely on this world, and its chief emphasis is social and political

The City Of Macon County
Introduction
Bibb County, in central Georgia, was formed December 9, 1822. Geologically, Bibb County is located
on the fall line where the southern Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain. Before the arrival of European
settlers, the area had been a center of a series of Native American civilizations. The county sits on
249.76 square miles of land and there are approximately 622 people per square mile.
Robert Reichert is the mayor of the city of Macon which is a part of Bibb currently governed by a five
member County Commission, with four commissioners elected from individual districts in the county

The World Of Osama Bin Laden
Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an
operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who s responsible for the
murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. Barack Obama If that did not give you
chills, then I do not know what will. Knowing that Osama Bin Laden is dead is one of America s
biggest reliefs. I never thought that this day will come. I chose Osama Bin s speech to the nation about
Osama Bin Laden being dead. In this paper, I am going to research and critically examine and
evaluate by using the five classical canons of rhetoric. I will explain into detail Obama s speech
dealing with the invention, organization, style, delivery, and memory. May 1, 2011 Barack Obama
presented a speech to the American nation and the world that Osama Bin Laden was dead. Obama did
this speech to inform the nation on the big news, but also to approve of his nation and other nations
that helped find and were able to capture and have him killed. As he speaks to the nation, he stands
next to an American flag. This suggests that he is proud of his nation and thankful for the country that
he is president of. Obama did not only just state that Osama Bin Laden was dead; he brought the
audience through a long journey on how they found Bin Laden. Invention is tied to the rhetorical
appeal of logos, being oriented to what an author would say rather than

Head Injuries
Head injuries are common among bicyclists who do not wear helmets, which come as no surprise,

2. Convertibility of Indian Rupee HISTORY
In 70 s and 80 s many countries switched over to the free convertibility of their currencies into foreign
exchange. By 1990, 70 countries of the world had introduced currency convertibility on current
account; another 10 countries joined them in 1991.
As a part of new economic reforms initiated in 1991, rupee was made partly convertible. From March
1992 under the Liberalized Exchange Rate Management scheme , in which 60% of all receipts on
current account (i.e. merchandise exports and invisible receipts) could be converted freely into rupees
at market determined exchange rate quoted by authorized dealers (AD), while 40% of them was to be
surrendered to Reserve Bank of India at the officially fixed exchange rate.
These 40% exchange receipts on current account was meant for meeting Government needs for
foreign exchange and for financing imports of essential commodities.
This partial convertibility of rupee on current account was adopted so that essential imports could be
made available at lower exchange rate to ensure that their prices do not rise much. Further, full
convertibility of rupees at that stage was considered to be risky in view of large deficit in balance of
payments on current account.
As even after partial convertibility of rupee, foreign exchange value of rupee remained stable. Full
convertibility on current account was announced in the budget 1993 94. From March 1993,

It seems to me that the logical response to educating any child is early intervention. There are many
subjects within our reading that were astonishing to me however the most surprising was that
kindergarten is not actually mandatory in most states, Vermont included. Early education is important
in providing a successful future for our children therefore, this is notable. I understand that people
have different theories about how early education should be applied and the freedom for parents to
decide how to do so is important nevertheless, parents also need to be educated on their options plus
successfulness of those option and theories. Theories being another topic that can be overwhelming.

Effects Of Justice In Snow Falling On Cedars
Crime can be defined as any action or omission which constitutes an offence and is punishable by law.
The representations of crime in fiction has developed and changed dramatically over centuries
according to shifts in values and perceptions. Each of the three texts Snow Falling on Cedars, Oceans

the redefinition of justice. Societies are always changing. This means that texts will always embody
different values according to their context and can influence the meaning and message of the texts.

Sociological Explanations Of Crime Essay
Sociological explanations of the causes of crime and deviance: an evalutation.
Unusual behaviour, such as cross dressing can be seen as deviant in some places, criminal in others
and acceptable else where. According to sociologist William Graham Sumner deviance is a violation
of established contextual, cultural, or social norms, whether codified by codified by laws or not.
According to Howard Becker 1963, defining deviance has is not a straightforward task. Deviance is
not the quality of the act. Rather it is a quality of how people react to what you do meaning answering
your phone in the street is acceptable behaviour and will not get a negative reaction, answering it in
the middle of an exam is considered rude and will receive a negative sanction, possibly a few bad
looks or exclusion from the examination room, answering your phone when in the witness stand

The 1967 Film The Battle Of The Algiers
The 1967 movie, The Battle of the Algiers, follows the story of the Algerian revolt against the French
government. The film, focusing mostly on the Arabs point of view, portrays an unstable period of time
during the French colonialization of Algeria. Throughout the movie, the gender politics shown are
greatly troubling to a modern audience, with women being treated like objects during the entire revolt.
This also ties to the idea of morality within the film, showing that the terrorists are heartless and
uncompassionate towards the French people. The film not only highlights the morality issues with the
Arabs, but also the French treatment of the Algerian revolutionaries.
The gender differences throughout the movie prove to be extremely unsettling,

British Economic History, 1952-1963
Assess the period of 1952 1963
The period of 1952 1963 was in the heart of what is known as ‘the golden age , which saw wide scale
growth of GDP and investment in Western Europe. The distinguishing features of the post war period
as identified by Matthews was of full employment, chronically rising prices, an abnormal ratio of
domestic investment to income and relatively high growth in income per capita by historical
standards. In this epoch of British history government policy principally tried to manage the level of
inflation, the balance of payments, the level of investment, the rate of growth and the level of
employment. The tools available to the government can broadly be divided into two categories
manipulating the level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of the policy should not be overestimated due to the fact that comparisons of UK
investment levels, fig 7, and those averages in Western Europe, fig 8, reveal that the UK is still
comparatively lagging. The increase in the investment rate did however hold significance for the level
of inflation during the period which was attributed to the shortage in the labour market. Sargent argues
that the higher levels of investment, fig 7, in new machinery led to a greater requirement of labour
than was released through the scrapping of old equipment and the growth of the labour market,
leading to wage push inflation. The period of 1952 1963 saw chronic rises in, prices as illustrated in
fig 4 and though the threat of inflation was of significant concern in the implementation of policies the
conservative government never really managed to control the rate of increases. There were
consecutive attempts to bring the level of inflation down with the government maintaining a current
account surplus throughout the period. Many of the policies were still deemed as having too high of an

In 1931 a frequent chess player and insurance agent from liverpool england named William Hebert
Wallace was given a telephone message 25 minutes before he arrived to his chess club. the message
requested him to call from an address across town at 7:30pm the following day to discuss insurance

address given to him did not exist. flustered, wallace returned home to find his wife brutally beaten to
death. after calling the authorities, the police believed WALLACE was the prime suspect, and sent the
fake message to himself to have an alibi. however the man who took the call for wallace was positive
the voice didn t belong to wallace at all and a delivery boy also spoke with the victim around the same
time wallace was all the way across town, so unless William Wallace was the flash it was highly
unlikely he was responsible for this crime. unfortunately police decided to arrest wallace for the
murder and he was almost convicted, but the court of criminal appeal decided to overturn the

The Battle of Bunker Hill Essay examples
The Battle of Bunker Hill traces back to December 1773, when a group of Colonists dressed as
Mohawk Indians boarded three ships from the East India Company. These rebels led by Sam Adams
proceeded to dump chests filled with tea into the Boston Harbor. This act, known as the Boston Tea
Party, was the result of years of exploitation and mistreatment from the British; it was the breaking
point for the Colonists and symbolized a shift in their loyalty. As punishment the British imposed the
Intolerable Acts, which set the stage for the Boston Massacre, and the Battle of Lexington and
Concord. At Lexington and Concord the British were unprepared for an ensuing American militia and
were forced to retreat to the Charlestown peninsula where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prescott planned to fortify Bunker Hill in order to disrupt British maneuvers and provide area defense.
However, for reasons unknown Prescott and over 1200 of his men moved past Bunker Hill and
fortified a hill even closer to the British encampment, Breed s Hill. That morning the Colonists
frantically worked to build a fortification, a redoubt, and a rail fence that extended from the hill to the
shore. 1 The British soon noticed the structure, and at 0200 British sentries notified General Howe of
the activities. However, like General Gage, Howe regarded the Colonists militia as an undisciplined
and untrained group of amateurs. So he dismissed the actions of the Colonists and did not immediately
notify Gage. Howe s failure to report the Colonists activities serves as Gage s first mistake in the
operations process of mission command. Gage rightfully viewed his army and navy as superior to the
Colonists militia in every way. He knew the British military had hundreds of years experience at war,
were uncontested at sea, had conquered two continents, and were better armed. He also knew the
Colonists had little experience at war, no naval force, and limited arms and munitions. In
consideration of these facts Gage did not recognize the Colonists as a viable threat. Moreover, he
completely underestimated the power of their resolve as well as their capabilities. Subsequently, he
didn t feel the need to create Commander s

Improving Affordability Through Curbing Cost Increases
institutions rarely think of approaches toward this goal. According to the report published by Lumina
Foundation, Putting Colleges on Notice: Crafting Smarter Strategies to Improve Affordability through
Curbing Cost Increases, college leaders are either failing to pay attention, failing to prioritize, or
failing to act on the affordability issue (Fryar and Carlson, 2014, p.3). Current efforts to improve
affordability are halted by the insufficient attention and the lack of knowledge, evidence, and
thoughtful strategy regarding the role of institutional leaders (p.3). In a 2008 survey, the Iron Triangle:

Institutional leaders, as the entrepreneur for organization culture and value, their perception of the
conflict between cost and quality, and the quality first mindset will shape the organization culture and
influence institution s efforts toward affordability.
As discussed by Fryar (2014), if leaders perceive efforts to improve affordability as threats to the
quality of their institution, efforts toward promoting affordability will be halted. Furthermore,
prioritizing quality let college leaders seek for more stable and dependable financial sources. Tuition
and fees, as one of the controllable and dependable source, will be the first choice for institution to
maintain quality and avoid risk (Fryar, 2014). The dominant ideology that links price with quality in
higher education institutions, or in other words, quality is maintained on the base of accumulation of
tangible resources and the higher the price is, the better the education will be, is the root problem for
the ineffective institutional affordability movements.
Reducing Student Debt Burden Higher debt burden for students may increase their probability to

The Extinction Of The Neanderthals
The question of the coexistence and the potential interaction between the last Neanderthal and the
earliest intrusive populations of anatomically modern humans in Europe has been a topic of debate.
The extinction of the Neanderthals occurred during the latter part of the last glaciation which was
characterized by a rapidly changing climate, cold conditions and corresponding vegetation and faunal
turnover. However, it coincided with the expansion of modern humans out of Africa during the Late
Pleistocene. Thus, it has been an ongoing debate on whether the extinction of the Neanderthals was
due to competition with anatomically modern humans or due to climate change. It is argued that the
inability for the Neanderthals to adapt to climate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Neanderthals survival methods were being compromised by the changing environment as they
were not equipped with the right physique or technology to survive in plain dominated environments.
The change in climate also helped to boost the expansion of anatomically modern humans. Eriksson
A., et al (2012) used a model that quantified the effects of past climate change on demography of
modern humans takes into consideration past demographic events and estimated the effect of climate
on atomically modern humans (Eriksson A., et al, 2012). The model shows a positive relationship
between climate and the expansion of modern humans. Humans were equipped with technology that
were favored after the environment changed to a plain dominated one and thus this change in
environment offered opportunities for human ambush hunters (Finlayson, 2004). They were able to
travel longer distances and shoot further, which gave them a greater advantage when it comes to
attacking these plain mammals (Markova A.K, et al, 2002). This relationship between climate change
and anatomically modern humans further restrains the Neanderthals. The Neanderthals are not only
less efficient in sourcing for food due to their inability to adapt their methods to the changing
environment, but are also faced with resource competition from the modern humans. It is widely
acknowledged that the body form of the Neanderthals indicates that they were biologically adapted for
the cold. However, this

Alcohol And The Liver Research Paper
Alcohol can have negative effects on liver function. When alcohol is consumed the body starts trying
to metabolize it but has no way of doing so. The liver then has to work detoxify and remove the
alcohol from the bloodstream. Once the liver finishes the oxidation process, the alcohol becomes
water and carbon dioxide. If the alcohol accumulates in the body, it may destroy cells and organs. The
oxidative metabolism prevents this from happening. When too much alcohol is ingested at once, the
toxins take a toll on the body, starting with the liver. The oxidative metabolism of the alcohol creates
molecules that lead to a condition called fatty liver. Research supports that fatty liver, the early stage
of alcoholic liver disease, develops in nearly

hours that resulted into starvation. He was mistreated and realized the American dream wasn t as easy

shows you the struggle Jurgis went through with money and it wasn t a fair life for him. When Jurgis
lost both Ona and his son Antanas he was begging and a drunk man gave him a 100 dollar bill, that
next day he enters a bar to receive change but the bartender tells him he has to buy a drink first, once
he does the bartender only gives him 97 cents and refuses to give him his change. Jurgis then gets in a
fist fight with him but then is sent to Jail. Once he was a prison he realized the life of crime was the
best way to survive as an immigrant, then Jurgis finally loses his hope of getting that American dream
he always wanted. Jurgis had a good reason to feel like this because he kept getting turned down by
jobs and had nowhere to stay, he was homeless.
The tittle of the book was misleading because I thought it was going to be about nature, but once you

Archery History
It only takes milliseconds for an arrow to hit a target, but it has taken 50,000 years for Archery to
become the sport it is today. There is a long history before the war weapon was turned into a sport for
all ages. The first step to learning archery is getting the proper equipment and knowing how to
properly use it. Shooting the arrow correctly takes practice and skill. Archery has changed vastly since
the time it was created, because it has advanced and improved.
The skill of archery has been around for more than 50,000 years. Humans have used archery since the
dawn of history, first for hunting, warfare, and in Modern Times for sport. inquired Pauline Edwards.
(). Originally bow and arrow sets were used for hunting. The first bows were made of one material and
were quite short. The Egyptians eventually made a composite bow, a bow made from many different
materials. They stretched sheep intestines to make the string needed for the bow to function. The
Chinese are rumored to have developed the crossbow which is a horizontally mounted bow that shoots
somewhat like a pistol. Around the same time as the Chinese were developing the crossbow, the
Japanese invented two new forms of archery, Kyudo Yabusame. Kyudo is the Japanese martial art of
archery, which includes rhythmic movements and meditative concentration. Yabusame is a form of
traditional archery where the archer is on a horse. In the year 1415, longbow archers from England
helped defeat the French in the Battle of Agincourt. The mid 13th century held advancements to

Autism Is A Complex Disability Essay
Autism is a complex disability, as the way it manifests in each child differs in severity across
numerous characteristics. Children diagnosed with autism qualify to receive special services and a
free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment under the federal legislation,
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 15). Autism was added to IDEA
in 1990 as a new disability category. The legislation defines autism as a developmental disability
significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident
before age 3 that adversely affects a child s educational performance (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 301).
The Rules for the Provision of Special Education from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
of Washington state also outlines eligibility and individualized education programs for children
diagnosed with autism (Rules for the Provision of Special Education, p. 11 46). Furthermore, the DSM
diagnoses autism when a child shows qualitative impairments in social interaction, communication,
and restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities (Hunt Marshall,
2012, p. 302).
In 2011, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that on average, 1 in 10 children each
year are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (Hunt Marshall, 2012, p. 304). However, the
number of children diagnosed with autism in recent years is

Characteristics Of An Effective Counselor
Characteristics of an Effective Counselor
Desirée M. Ericksen
Liberty University
Abstract
This paper reviews four published papers and/or studies that have researched the characteristics of
effective counselors. Each of the papers/studies list their own set of characteristics, but share a
common thread of empathy, compassion, warmth, genuineness and emotional stability. After
reviewing each paper and research study, additional analysis was applied to the above five
characteristics with the hope of creating a more thorough understanding of what characteristics will
assist in the journey of becoming an effective counselor.
Characteristics of an Effective Counselor Counseling is an age old profession. A counselor is someone

Brown, 1996).
First, to understand the importance of a counselor s characteristics, it should be understood that a
counselor uses him/herself as a tool in assisting clients in various ways. Carroll stated:
When human beings [counselors] work they use themselves as the main focus of their work, they
infuse themselves into it, they become it; it is them at work, not just work done by them. Their work
changes from being a job, or indeed even a career, to becoming an extension of themselves, of who
they are. (Carroll, 2001, p. 77)
Therefore, empathy, genuineness, warmth, compassion and emotional stability are not only
characteristics of effective counselors, they should be considered the foundation of what a counselor
is.
Literature Review
Carl Roger s (1957) wrote an article for the Journal of Consulting Psychology to help address the
conditions necessary for therapeutic change. Rogers listed six conditions of which three conditions are
specifically applied to the therapist: unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and
congruence (Rogers, 1957) Rogers expounded on congruence as being the most significant quality by
saying
The third condition is that the therapist should be, within the confines of this relationship, a congruent,
genuine, integrated person. It means that within the relationship he is freely and deeply himself, with

Similarities Of Grendel And Beowulf
This essay is a character analysis that compares and contrast the two main characters of the epic
Beowulf . The essay informs the reader of the traits the two characters have in common including their
cocky personalities and their impossible strength. It also mentions the many opposing characteristics
of the two characters including how brave or cowardly they are, and weather or not they want to help
or hurt people. Many direct quotes from the epic Beowulf are also within the essay to help support
each allegation, giving proof to the characteristics identified.
Compare and Contrasting Beowulf and Grendel
There is a hero and a villain in every story, we have: Batman and The Joker, Spider Man and The
Green Goblin, Thor and Loki, and of course Beowulf and Grendel. In the epic Beowulf our two main
characters are Beowulf the hero of the story, and Grendel the evil demon who terrorized the world. In
the epic, Beowulf and Grendel are noticeably different, but at the same time alike in many ways. The
people in the story may not have notice the similarities, but they could not be hidden from the peering
eye of the reader. In the story Beowulf was was brave, while Grendel was cowardly, Beowulf was
helpful, while Grendel only wanted to hurt people; in comparison, they were both unnaturally strong
and very arrogant.
To begin, one of the many ways that Beowulf was different than Grendel is that Beowulf was brave.
Every night Grendel snuck into Herot Hall to destroy King Hrothgar s men. He did this while hiding
in the shadows, sneaking around in the dead of night, and attacking while the men we asleep and at
there most vulnerable. These are not the characteristics the brave, these are the characteristics of a
foul, loathsome, cowardly beast. Mean while, Beowulf liked to meet a problem head on, in this case
the problem was Grendel himself. Determined Beowulf sailed to Denmark to defeat Grendel, telling
Hrothgar that he will take Grendel s life with his bare hands. As told in the story, That mighty
protector of men/ Meant to hold the monster till it s life/ leaped out (Raffel, 1963, l. 366 368). And
when Beowulf got the chance to do just that, Grendel took the cowards road, Grendel s one thought

  • 2. Soft Body Caterpillar Robot More Efficient Than Current... Adrian Hammer Hypothesis: Soft body caterpillar robot more efficient than current robots. Topic: To understand why the inspiration of the common caterpillar is used to create the next generation of soft structure robots and what they will be used for once they are completed. Description: The caterpillar inspired robot is one of the first of its kind using a soft body to mimic that of its inspired. This is one of the main major points of why I choose to pick this instead of any other biology related topic simply because if it is the same size as a caterpillar it can be used in a vast majority of different common day practices. Relevance: Since this a new improvement upon current robotic technology all its uses are currently unknown but with the size of a caterpillar it can adapt to a variety of uses such as doctors. Currently doctors use small cameras attached to a long wire to observe internals but now with this caterpillar it may be possible to place this inside a body without the help of aesthetic in a few minutes instead of a lengthy procedure. Economically it can open up a variety of jobs in the robotics industry creating more work. This can then be used to try new technologies, materials and replacing outdated technologies. Ethically it can be used in a variety of medical practises. Just like stated above it can observe organs and reduce surgery time. If someone had a blood clot inside them, instead of going into a lengthy procedure of cutting someone open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about The Change of Bond Girls The Change of Bond Girls In Adams article Bond Girls:gender, technology and film she says that the question, how have Bond girls changed? Blonder, dumber and thinner would not be an uncommon reply. Some of the results of my questionnaire seemed to support this idea. When asking participants to use one word [they] associate with Bond girls a massive 80% said sex . This showed me that the general opinion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I took notes on four main themes regarding; Bond s relationship and treatment of the women, the roles of the women in the film (how key they were to the plot), and the social depiction and life of their character in the film and their sexual relationship with Bond. Through textual analysis I discovered that in three of the main themes excluding the latter there had been significant development. Comparing two of the themes:Bond relationship and treatment of the women and their importance to the plot in films throughout the franchise, I found that in earlier Bond films throughout the Sean Connery era (Dr No. to Never say never again) and the beginning of the Roger Moore era up to The man with a golden gun, generally showed Bond girls in a more subordinate role to Bond. In Goldfinger Bond slaps a girl on the bottom and tells her man talk! when his fellow agent arrives prompting her to leave, exhibiting her unimportance. Bond also tricks solitaire into having sex with him by fooling her with trick cards in Live and let die. He also handles women roughly, slapping them around for information or twisting their arms around their back (Dr No.). In films such as The man with the golden gun girls such as Goodnight, is portrayed as being a hindrance to Bond and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Color Vision Development in Infants Color Vision Development in Infants: The Responsibility of Cone Types and Wavelength in Order of Color Development It is a wonderful thing to witness a sunset and see all the various colors that occur in our world. What would it be like if we didn t view the sunset with all the beautiful colors that are perceived in it? According to Brown, Lindsey, Mcsweeney, and Walters, (1994) without factoring in brightness, newborn infants cannot differentiate between colors. This was found by testing infants in forced choice preferential looking experiments or FPL experiments (Brown et al., 1994). It is astonishing to think that we haven t always viewed the world in various vibrant colors. So at what point do we as individuals develop full color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Infants that were aged 4 weeks and 9 weeks were evaluated in a study that looked at red/ green color and it was found that the responses to the stimuli for nine week old infants were greater in response to the stimuli than four week old infants (Teller Palmer, 1996). Is it possible that the younger infants in the study by Teller and Palmer (1996) had not yet fully matured their s cone receptors? At what age does the color green develop in infants? Does the amount of s cones we have contribute and affect the order in which we develop color? According to a blog by Jones (2013), a retinal neuroscientist and photographer, tritanopia colorblind people have s (blue) cones absent and have issues deciphering between blue and green, infants might not be able to see blue yet (Robin, 2014), so as a replacement for blue, I am going to use gray as the comparing color. I predict that infants three weeks old will see the green and gray colors differently, and have an increase in gaze time on the color green while previously viewing gray or red. Hypothesis Infants that are three weeks old will be at the beginning stages of maturing s cones, which should enable them to begin viewing green and will in turn prefer the color green (longer gaze time) because it is new in their development of color. Independent variables of the study will be which color is shown to the infants. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people s fortunes impacted the country very positively in its time of need. One of these Captains is named Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania at the young age of thirteen. After his father failing multiple times to start a handloom business, Carnegie, like many commoners, worked as a labourer earning only $1.20 a week. Surprisingly, a game of chequers between his uncle and manager of a local telegraph office is what led Carnegie on the road to wealth and fortune. My last two years at Chelan High School, I have found what I truly value in work that I will take with me to college. I ve learned that when I don t understand a topic that the teacher is explaining, I shouldn t be afraid to ask questions so I can grasp the idea. With all my assignments and the heavily interactive projects, I perform strongly, even if I have a limited amount of time. Although in my class, I understand that I m not the person with the best grades, but I still work strongly. Throughout my life, I have been through harsh obstacles. With those obstacles, I have experienced stress, and I believe that I work well under stress. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Internet Exploring Our Inner self in Cyberspace Cyberspace is a new communication medium which enables us to understand our social behavior. In the real world and virtual world, we understand ourselves by developing aspects of our identity. However, in the virtual world, we can explore our inner self without rejection that may be experienced in the real world. Cyberspace is, thus, a psychological space to build and form, explore and discover, and accept and understand ourselves. To explain this, we must view this on an individual and collective perspective. Identity in cyberspace allows an individual to construct themselves, and culture in cyberspace allows individuals to engage in social interactions which involve identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Donath and Palloff perspective, people use this psychological space to simply vent or act out their fantasies and the frustrations, anxieties, and desires that fuel those fantasies. (Lopez Martinez, 2001) This shows that we occasionally repress our true feelings and fantasies. Therefore, we go online and feel comfortable in expressing our feelings and fantasies. Cyberspace is more of an opportunity to better understand themselves, as a path for exploring their identity... (Lopez Martinez, 2001) It is clear that cyberspace is limitless and this opens doors to find your true self. Since we can create different characters and environments, we are playing a game of ourselves and discovering who we are and who we wish to be. Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson believed ...play [is] a toy situation that allows us to reveal and commit ourselves in its unreality. (Turkle, 1996) Cyberspace help people express themselves using words and, in a humanistic perspective, this process is called self actualization. The outcome is sometimes good because people report being more like their true self offline. The Internet has evolved to become a social medium which allow people to communicate. This started in the early 1990s, where critics claim the Internet will become an information highway. Then the internet made room for cyberculture, an online space reserved for ... • 8. Examples Of View Of Paul In Tangerine The main point of this story, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, is how the people who are looked down upon see from different points of view. An example of this is the main character, Paul, who is considered blind by many and is often looked down upon in society, however, he often sees what others do not and has excessive knowledge of the world around him. Even though he sees everything, he does not say what he knows and others do not ask him, for they believe he has no knowledge of the problems. After moving to Tangerine, he sees his brother doing horrible things and his parents none the wiser. His friend suffers at the hands of his brother and is eventually killed, and afterwards, Paul feels much guilt for the words unsaid. Since Paul is often looked down upon, he notices facts and clues society does not, however he fears saying something, in which causes his friend to be murdered. ... It is as if Paul lives in the sun and knowledge of the world, baring that burden while others in society live in darkness with slight sliver of light from the moon believing they know the world to its full extent when in reality they are blind and in the dark. This affects Paul since he possess ideas from another point of view that others have no clue about. This is important because without the knowledge that Paul posses, he would be like his none the wiser parents, which would affect the story a great deal. For example, on page 152, Paul tells his friend, Don t do this. Don t come in here with attitude. Paul knows how to adapt to the places around him and knows that by accepting the facts and the brunt of the blow, they will accept him begin to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Hinduism And Confucianism Similarities Matt, I do agree that there are similarities between Hinduism and Confucianism; however, despite both societies, placing a premium hierarchy and authoritarianism, their internal motivations and ethical paradigms are widely divergent. I am going to incorporate the input you provided on my original thread regarding this topic as well. I tend to recycle my rhetoric so bear with me. In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious history in India. Emanating from the Vedas, the Upanishads and other religious texts, it was a fertile field enriched by practitioners from different Hindu philosophical schools and late by Jain s and Buddhists. Although both of them exerted a deep influence on China s state building as well as on its moral and legal traditions, at the beginning, these two philosophies were bitterly opposed to each other, as they were based on entirely different principles. Id. Despite their differences, Legalism and Confucianism both endorsed the concept of the absolute monarchy. Id. China s current has a legal system reflecting some aspects of contemporary civil and common law as practiced in the Western legal traditions; however, China s legal system has often been based on Confucian philosophy, which accentuates social control through moral education and a juridical priority regarding coded law and criminal sanctions. Percy R. Luney, Jr., Traditions and Foreign Influences: Systems of Law in China and Japan, 129 (1989). In conclusion, the difference between Confucianism and Hinduism can be observed in their differing worldview despite some overlap in social conventions. Hinduism s focus is on mystical objectives (not to be confused with the law of India), as it dismisses reality as we understand it as illusionary. Confucianism s focus is squarely on this world, and its chief emphasis is social and political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barack Obama If that did not give you chills, then I do not know what will. Knowing that Osama Bin Laden is dead is one of America s biggest reliefs. I never thought that this day will come. I chose Osama Bin s speech to the nation about Osama Bin Laden being dead. In this paper, I am going to research and critically examine and evaluate by using the five classical canons of rhetoric. I will explain into detail Obama s speech dealing with the invention, organization, style, delivery, and memory. May 1, 2011 Barack Obama presented a speech to the American nation and the world that Osama Bin Laden was dead. Obama did this speech to inform the nation on the big news, but also to approve of his nation and other nations that helped find and were able to capture and have him killed. As he speaks to the nation, he stands next to an American flag. This suggests that he is proud of his nation and thankful for the country that he is president of. Obama did not only just state that Osama Bin Laden was dead; he brought the audience through a long journey on how they found Bin Laden. By 1990, 70 countries of the world had introduced currency convertibility on current account; another 10 countries joined them in 1991. As a part of new economic reforms initiated in 1991, rupee was made partly convertible. From March 1992 under the Liberalized Exchange Rate Management scheme , in which 60% of all receipts on current account (i.e. merchandise exports and invisible receipts) could be converted freely into rupees at market determined exchange rate quoted by authorized dealers (AD), while 40% of them was to be surrendered to Reserve Bank of India at the officially fixed exchange rate. These 40% exchange receipts on current account was meant for meeting Government needs for foreign exchange and for financing imports of essential commodities. This partial convertibility of rupee on current account was adopted so that essential imports could be made available at lower exchange rate to ensure that their prices do not rise much. Further, full convertibility of rupees at that stage was considered to be risky in view of large deficit in balance of payments on current account. As even after partial convertibility of rupee, foreign exchange value of rupee remained stable. Full convertibility on current account was announced in the budget 1993 94. From March 1993, ... The distinguishing features of the post war period as identified by Matthews was of full employment, chronically rising prices, an abnormal ratio of domestic investment to income and relatively high growth in income per capita by historical standards. The success of the policy should not be overestimated due to the fact that comparisons of UK investment levels, fig 7, and those averages in Western Europe, fig 8, reveal that the UK is still comparatively lagging. The increase in the investment rate did however hold significance for the level of inflation during the period which was attributed to the shortage in the labour market. Sargent argues that the higher levels of investment, fig 7, in new machinery led to a greater requirement of labour than was released through the scrapping of old equipment and the growth of the labour market, leading to wage push inflation. The period of 1952 1963 saw chronic rises in, prices as illustrated in fig 4 and though the threat of inflation was of significant concern in the implementation of policies the conservative government never really managed to control the rate of increases. There were consecutive attempts to bring the level of inflation down with the government maintaining a current account surplus throughout the period. Many of the policies were still deemed as having too high of an inflationary risk, such as the expansionary policies of 1952 1955 where tax cuts were offered during a period where the economy was overheating suffering chronic inflation.
