Reasons Why the United States Failed in the Vietnam War
President Johnson ordered revenge air strikes against the patrol boat s bases. After that, Congress had
approved the resolution eighty eight to two and Johnson had been granted the powers to prosecute the
war in Vietnam. Senator Wayne Morse or Oregon voted against it, reminding McNamara that the
North Vietnamese patrol boat attacks had been provoked by U.S. presence in Tonkin Bay (Armstrong
52). It was apparent that the past of American policy in South Vietnam seemed to be leading America
into war. The United States had affiliated themselves with a policy that was a form of American
colonialism, of saving U.S. interests at the cost of the Vietnamese people. The Tonkin Resolution was
evidence. Prior to the war President Franklin D. Roosevelt had stated that American policy should be
changed, but no steps were taken to change it. In 1954, the U.S. refused to sign the Geneva Accord, so
from then on America claimed that North Vietnam was violating the accord by sending help to the
rebels against the South Vietnamese Government. But we decided not to go to the countries that
signed the agreement and who were responsible for its enforcement. But, instead we violated by
joining in the fighting. Every American person or item that was sent to South Vietnam was a violation.
In January 1965, five months after the Gulf of Tonkin incident, West Point graduate Richard Steinke
refused to join a unit operating in Vietnam (Schutts). Many knew that the decision to join the war was

Biographical Summary On Frankenstein
Biographical Summary Author Mary Shelley was born August 30th, 1797 to philosopher and writer
William Godwin and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Mary s mother passed away early in Shelley s life
and wasn t a prominent figure. Her father remarried another woman named Mary Jane Clairmont.
Shelley and her stepmother rarely got along so a female role model was not something Shelley
received in her early years. Clairmont refused to send Shelley to be educated at a school but has no
hesitation when sending her own daughter. Even without a formal education Shelley would still
attempt to seek knowledge through books and would often daydream to escape the everyday struggles
of her life at home. She also took up writing as an activity in which to ... Show more content on

It didn t get any easier when two more of Mary and Percy s children passed away at a young age. Only
one of their infants lived past their childhood and into adulthood. Years later, Mary was impacted with
another heartache when her husband drowned in 1822. Leaving Mary a widow at 24 to care for her
son and herself. She continued to write and eventually passed away at the age of 53 in 1851.
Critical analysis
The novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, was a piece written in 1817 during a time when women
weren t considered to be adequate authors. Shelley s work is both intriguing as it is thought provoking.
She brings to light the true nature of society and life altogether when tested. She factors in how the
outside world can influence our choices in writing. George Levine from The Ambiguous Heritage of
Frankenstein and Benjamin Truitt from Frankenstein Critical Analysis and Literary Criticism both
share their opinions about Shelley s piece of written work. Frankenstein is a story full of questions and
excitement. What is interesting about Shelley s novel is the absence of God and multiple female
characters. She ignores the proper way of conception and birth. Due to this, the science of what Victor
accomplished had gone awry. His goal while creating the monster was a perfect race in which they
would help mankind, even though the dream of the new race is...exploded in the end (Levine 12).

Aircraft Operations During World War I
World War I, although originating in Europe, affected people on a global scale. Advancements in
technology across the globe were at a peak, and flying was at the forefront. Later in the war
capabilities in the air, whether offensive or defensive, would play a pivotal role in the successes and
failures across all avenues of combat. The war started with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the
Archduke of Austria on June 28, 1914, by Slav nationals when the Archduke was in Sarajevo. As
Serbia declared war against Vienna, the governments of France and Russia quickly became involved.
Germany quickly entered into the fray, opposing France and Russia. Shortly thereafter, Great Britain
took the side of France and Russia forming the Entente Alliance.
The United States held a completely neutral stance for a great deal of time. Forty seven days from
September 26, 1918 November 11, 1918, of cold, combat hell fell upon more than 1.2 million
American troops at the campaign of Meuse Argonne. Two incidents that led to the United States
entering Word War I included the sinking of the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Meuse Argonne offensive was the final campaign, cost over twenty six thousand lives and was the
bloodiest operation during this era. Aircraft played a vital role during this campaign, which demanded
emplacement of Anti Aircraft Artillery units across the entire battlefield. Aircraft were normally small
were initially used for enemy reconnaissance. Although frequently used, airplanes were unreliable and
could not carry weapons. Anti Aircraft Artillery units utilized observation balloons (dirigibles) around
coalition bases. These balloons became easy targets for the enemy but were under the protection of
large anti aircraft guns. Even though the balloons were very flammable due to the hydrogen, they still
contributed greatly and effectively to the trench warfare of World War

Boorstin On Dissent And Disagreement
Boorstin makes a profoundly wise distinction between disagreement and dissent. Right after World
war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority groups started to
take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement that A liberal society
thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the lifeblood of democracy,
dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society during the 1960s, for the
expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is found in The Decline of
Radicalism which was published in 1969. Leading up to the 1960s, discrimination has only been a
disagreement, but in the 1960s, it became a dissension. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or the
cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from others
more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v Board of
Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating public schools,
in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from a disagreement to
disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that sparked national outrage.
The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South as the sit ins successfully
desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on Washington which is the site of
Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the government to take action concerning
the civil rights movement before more violence could occur. In the following years, The Voting Rights
Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen class from voting, and seeing that they were
threatened to not vote in the south, the government provided federal oversight of elections in places of
evident discrimination. Boostin explains, that the liberal society...is killed by dissension, which was
the case during the Civil Rights Movement. If the government had not given African Americans more
rights, the cancerous side, continued widespread rebellions against prolonged unfair treatment, would
have destroyed the American

Advantages Of Informal Lodging
Informal lodging Instead of Hotels
Most explorers have caught wind of the advantages of staying at an informal lodging rather than a
customary inn. Yet, just a little rate of them really wind up staying at a quaint little inn. I used to be
one of those individuals who stayed away from the little family claimed foundations. Presently I am a
believer. I think you could turn into a believer to.
For quite a long time I was reluctant to stay at a neighborhood informal lodging when voyaging. I
figure I was one of those individuals who simply stayed with the easy win. You realize what an inn
will be similar to generally. You may discover one that has a more agreeable bed than another. You
may discover one that has amazing water weight and in this way a wonderful shower. The vast
majority of them have moderately clean rooms.

There is a vastly more private environment at a quaint little inn against that with respect to a major
lodging. Arranging a go at this sort of convenience is likewise an awesome approach to meet new men
and ladies. Since there are a predefined amount of individuals that a quaint little inn will have the
capacity to oblige chances are that you basically may keep running into kindred visitors also amid the
day or at breakfast.
It is very traditional to request informal lodging to serve a whole breakfast dinner in the morning that
all visitors will be urged to go to. The feast is typically incorporated into aROOM PRICE and that is
one motivation behind why this sort of overnight settlement is called as a quaint little inn. It is not
extraordinary these days for this kind of hotel are putting forth more than just breakfasts to the guests.
A few may serve lunch or have a drink hour where visitor guests can blend.

Reflection About Friendship
My partner, Naeem Mohammad, and I met on December 9. During our last meeting together, we
drove around St. Louis and had dinner at Raising Cane s, while talking about college system and
family. Again, Naeem has greatly improved his English since our last meeting on November 18th. We
were able to talk more in detail about the Saudi Arabian college system and family back in Saudi
Arabia. This parallels a development breakthrough in my revival of Chinese: Siri can recognize me
speaking in Chinese. While not something I should be particularly proud of, I can make this
connection between this and development of Naeem s language throughout the semester. He can hold
longer conversations, and his vocabulary has improved to the point where he told me that he can skip
a level of English. This reminds me of being able to understand one s strengths and weaknesses,
because it can make a difference in how one approach life. This is key when we discussed the above
topics, where I rarely had to help him finish his sentences and can describe situations well. Speaking
of which, as Naeem drove me around St. Louis, we talked about the financial aid system at SLU and
the college system in Saudi Arabia, where I told him about 97% of the students here receive grants,
loans, and work study. In contrast, he told me that not only Saudi Arabian college is free, but students
also receive a $300 allowance per month. This is reminiscent of when my father went to college after
the universities in China opened after the Cultural Revolution, where tuition, and room and board
were free, and they also give a sum of money. In education in Saudi Arabia, Naeem attributes this to
not many people decide to continue with college, and I can attest that to China as well, where
education today is compulsory until the 9th grade. I perceived the initiative Naeem talked about back
in Saudi Arabia to improve the access of education to more people. It intrigues me how Saudi
Arabians approach education differently how the United States approach it. As I am going into the
medical field, I would want to note the differences in how I approach healthcare. It is not a business; it
s a universal right. I don t want to get involved with red tape and hidden

Pros And Cons Of The Scientific Revolution
Scientific Revolution
In 16th and 17th century Europe, the Scientific Revolution was occurring. This meant that
intellectuals were beginning to create meaning of the universe through mathematics and sciences.
Their new ideas clashed with the ideas of the late medieval times, like Scholasticism and Aristotelian
philosophy. The ideas of natural philosophers like Tycho Brahe, Rene Descartes, Galileo Galilei, and
Copernicus emerged to provide new interpretations of the world through science and math. During the
Scientific Revolution, social factors like sexism specifically hindered scientific work for females,
while political leadership and religion both had the ability to hinder and encourage scientific work.
Scientific work was encouraged by social factors like religion through religious people who believed
that science could contribute to proving God s greatness, and was also promoted through political
leaders. Not all religious people believed that scientific work was harming the thinking of others, in
fact, some believed it would help people achieve a greater understanding of God. For example, John
Calvin believed that astronomy was beneficial and should be continued because it reveals God s
wisdom (Doc. 2). During a time period where the belief in God was still prevalent, Calvin s purpose in
speaking about the advantages of astronomy was to teach believers that not all science is bad, some
sciences may help people understand God. Scientific work was also encouraged through

Gene Expression in Eukaryotes
Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include
Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in
prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes.
Transcription
Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use
DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different
language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot
work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or
cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped
and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the
unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the
template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters
that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more
transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the
transcription initiation complex.
The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves
downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis
continues downstream the new

Family Virtues Virtues are usually taught through the eyes of the wise, also known as the elder. In the
book The Lakota Way, by Joseph M. Marshall III, his tribe teaches virtues though story telling. The
virtues of the Lakota tribe and those of my family are more similar then I had anticipated, although we
do have our differences. The Lakota Way, stories and lessons for living, is a book written in 2001 by
Joseph M. Marshall III. Marshall dedicates his book to Kimberly Jo Schumidt and Joseph N. Marshall

In The Lakota Way, Koskalaka meets the deer woman and remembers what his grandmother had told
him and out of respect he declines her tempting offer to go with her. Just like Koskalaka respects his
elder grandmother my siblings also have learned that we must respect people and more the elder. In
the Lakota tribe, the grandmother said that when the Deer Woman takes them into her lodge she has
sex with them but, when they wake the deer woman is no longer there leaving the man forgetful of his
family and in search of the Deer Woman. Unlike the Lakotas, my family has gone out and seen their
own type of deer woman wether it be with drugs, sex, or lies, but never have they forgotten about the
rest of us. My family has learned to embrace one another when they have fallen into temptation, where
the Lakotas would cast them out. My relatives have gone through many hardships and difficult
situations but the morals have set into our heads like Koskalaka s grandmother set into his head. The
many men whom the Deer Woman lured into her lodge lost complete contact with their families and
thus themselves. They left their family s worried about where they could be and what could be
happening to them. The men became selfish and inconsiderate, and no longer showing the respect and
attention that they should have been showing to their family because of the Deer Woman. Dissimilar

Gender Roles In Northanger Abbey And Frances Burney
Everywhere we look, we see differences in race, gender, and status. Some people are held to a higher
standard and are given more privilege than others. This inequality is seen today and was seen
throughout the 18th century. Not many women have the courage to speak out about what happens, but
two brave female authors have done so. Jane Austen wrote Northanger Abbey and Frances Burney
wrote Evelina, and both novels bring to light the injustices women face. Both female authors used the
negative aspect of gender roles that come along with growing up as female to show that an individual
can surpass limitations and stereotypes through personal strength.
Northanger Abbey is a typical romance novel that has the ending that all readers anticipate the girl
falls in love with the boy and they live happily ever after. However, Catherine grows as an individual
and surpasses the stereotypical characteristics of a female during the time period. The novel brings to
light the gender roles that were instilled during the 18th century by using male characters that strongly
enforce what is believe during that time period.
Henry Tilney says, In marriage, the man is supposed to provide for the support of the woman; the
woman to make the home agreeable to the man; he is to purvey and she is to smile. But in dancing,
their duties are exactly changed; the agreeableness, the compliance, are expected from him, while she
furnishes the fan and the lavender water. (Austen 73). Henry jokingly

Literary Britic And Literary Criticism Of Arthur Miller
Literary Criticism
Arthur Miller has been nominated as one of the major dramatists of the twentieth century. He is an
American playwright, editor, essayist, and novelist who earned his reputation for more than sixty
years. He was a dramatist who believes to bring change to society by speaking about real issues that
occur in society. Miller best known plays are The Crucible , Death of a Salesman , All of my Sons ,
and The View from the Bridge . He was once married to the sex icon Marilyn Monroe which gave him
a temporarily Hollywood spotlight for his work and personal relationship. Sadly, Miller died in 2005
at the age 89 due to heart failure. Although his plays are memorable and recreated in today history.
Miller s theater work has been strongly influenced by a particular life experience that motivated him
to become this influential playwright and novelists. He was born and raised in New York City in 1915.
Miller was living comfortably until his father business hit rock bottom during the Great Depression.
For that reason, Miller allows writing to become an outlet during the hardship of the Great
Depression. He later took the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan and prove to himself
that he is capable of college work his freshman year. Starting from there, Miller turned his hands into
playwriting and major in English. He had a couple of setbacks during college but that encourage him

A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn
A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn
Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things.
Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an
enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every corner
of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and energy
climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear that this
symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the community.
Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises Tarry and the youth
of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s direction of Tarry Flynn
conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Church and the youth of 1930 s rural Ireland.
This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this.
In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world. Ireland
was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be practising
Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives and provided
the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of submission and
dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. The power of the church and their

plan is very important. MyRatePlan can help anyone find great wireless coverage at great prices with
only a few pieces of simple information such as zip code, the desired type of customized plan and how
much the shopper is currently paying for wireless phone service. What Type of Wireless Plan is
Preferred? There are three basic types of wireless cell phone plans available by nearly every wireless
phone company. These plans are single line plans, family plans and no contract plans. Each has their
own advantages and disadvantages in various scenarios, but it s important for every shopper to
solidify which plan would be most preferred to them. Single line plans are meant purely for use in one
phone only. This is the best route for people who don t have spouses or children who may want their
phones on the plan as well. Single line plans are much cheaper than family plans since they only cover
one device. Family plans are designed to cover various devices, and they add a lot of elbow room for
additional devices to be added in the future. Family plans are more expensive than single line plans,
but it s a much better option for people who want to add numerous devices such as ones belonging to
spouses and children to their plan. The reason for this is because family plans allow each user to share

What Is The Fashion Of Fashion In The 1960s
60s Fashion in America
The 1960s were a time of big change across the United States of America. Fashion was one of the
most memorable (parts) of the 60s. The 1950s sound was still popular and the waist tight skirts and
clean, sharp look was still worn by many. The style of fashion was new and unfamiliar to the people
who grew up in the 1940s and 50s. One of the most surprising trends was the box dresses that women
wore. They were very short and showed much more skin than the parents of the teenagers in that era,
would have liked. They were used to much more conservative types of clothing. Fashion evolved,
along with the new generation who inspired that fashion. Hairstyles and clothing changed, due to a
new era of icons and state of minds.
Hairstyles in the 50s were much more traditional and looked very conservative. They replicated the
styles of the 1930s and 40s. They had many more curls than the hairstyles of the 60s. The women
wore buffontants and flipped hair. Bouffants had hair above the crown of the head, covering the ears
and women who wore this style usually had shoulder length hair. Another popular women s style was
the flipped hair Usually worn with bouffants, the flipped hairstyle was one where the ends of the hair
were flipped in toward the face. Both hair styles were used in ads for clothes and products during the
60s, spreading the look across America with the help of icons. Flips and bouffants are most
characterized by the 60s, making them the most

Analysis Of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life...

AP English
15 November 2015
The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One Day in the Life of
Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian prison inmate, Shukhov, through a
standard day in the gulag system. The novel displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane
conditions and how he deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides
insight into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of prisoners hold.
By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a platform from which he can
bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an
important role in the structure on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters,
sections, or parts in the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day
that drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the camp: No
zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how soon is reveille? How long till
work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of time elongation is done with the lack of specific
times; events are only described chronologically and specific times are rarely used. Personal time is a
precious resource for the prisoners, or zeks. To the zeks, time in the prison camp is a contradiction
because there is too much of

Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan
We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including;
tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans
that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account, American
Opportunity Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees.
There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child s college. The plan will help
families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and prepaid.
Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose the savings
plan, it comes with different options to invest the family s money in. The account will either increase
or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family to pre pay all of
the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a private college.
Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally tax free. Therefore,
the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529 plan does not have to

Here in America, everywhere actually, terrorism is taken extremely seriously.
America has dealt with many situations the wrong way, for example, the encounter with the Native
Americans. What has America done wrong in regards to terrorism and terror suspects, and how can we
as a country change it for the better and still be aggressive in keeping terror out of our country? The
Geneva Convention rules were put into place to protect prisoners of war, soldiers, and civilians. It
describes in full detail how these people should be treated and how our country should deal with
civilians, soldiers, and prisoners of war in all different aspects. But, months after the tragic event of
September 11, 2001, the president, George Bush declared that members of the al Qaeda and others
were not entitled to the formal protections of the Geneva Convention (Washington Post). Who protects
the detainees from inhumane treatment, abuse, and other vicious and cruel treatment? America in its
entirety should accept accountability for the repetitive acts of inhumane cruelty and torture towards
the detainees. They need to redirect that aggression and focus it towards finding effective non life
threating ways to protect. The punishment should ultimately fit the crime as long as the punished is
the actual threat to our nation.

Sinus And Skull Base Surgery
Intra Operative Image Guidance in Sinus and Skull Base Surgery
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) using rigid endoscopes has developed into becoming the
mainstay treatment for opening obstructed outflow tracts of the paranasal sinuses. However,
limitations surrounding FESS have resulted in intra operative Image Guidance Systems (IGS) to
improve outcomes in complex skull base procedures. A principal limitation of the endoscopic
endonasal approach is the availability of only a two dimensional view, with surgeons instead
localising instruments based partly on their depth of penetration and tactile sensation. The restricted
nature of the sinonasal tract and the complex arrangement of adjacent vital structures (carotid artery,

IGS were first developed for the application in neurosurgical procedures to determine precise
anatomical locations, which was deemed to be primordial. The 1970 s saw the trial of computed
tomography (CT) assisted location systems for focal destruction in stereotactic brain surgery. (3 5)
These early devices impeded efficient sinus surgery with the need for reference frames fixated to the
cranium and positioning of fiducial markers. During the 1980 s, multiple systems were constructed to
bypass the need for reference frames, localising instead by acoustic or ultrasound triangulation or even
articulated arms. During this timeframe, referencing was always in accordance to fiducial markers.(6)
Innovative systems dedicated to endonasal surgery progressed in the 1990s through the use of infrared
diodes and opaque radio markers.(7 9) In 1994, the Americans were the first to describe computer
assisted endoscopic sinus surgery, using a frameless stereotactic system with attached articulated arms
of an ISG viewing wand.(10) The technology pertaining to intraoperative IGS in endoscopic sinus and
skull base surgery continues to develop.
IGS using either electromagnetic or optical based technologies are designed to localise surgical
instruments in the operative field. Both technologies allow for: real time detection of the position of
instruments in three dimensional imaging; are accurate to within 2mm;

Duty Honor Country Speech Summary

The Militaries Unspoken Will
The Speech Duty, Honor, Country was delivered by General Douglas MacArthur to the Cadets of the
Military Academy in West Point, New York. General Douglas MacArthur was being awarded with the
Sylvanus Thayer Award to commend the General for all his hard work and devotion to the Military.
The Award is a memorable tribute to the ideals that inspired the late General Sylvanus Thayer, who
was also known as the Father of West Point . In General Douglas MacArthur s Duty, Honor, Country
speech, he used rhetorical appeals, diction, and repetition to convey his thoughts about the Military
and its present leaders along with its future leaders.

period in his military career was marked by frequent promotions and led to posts in countries around
the world, including the Philippines, Japan, Mexico and, in 1914, France. In 1918 he participated in
the St. Mihiel, Meuse Argonne and Sedan offensives, during which he repeatedly distinguished
himself as a capable military leader. Upon returning from Europe, MacArthur became the
superintendent of West Point, a post he held for the next three years. During this time he was
promoted to brigadier general of the Army. In 1930, MacArthur was promoted to general and selected
as the Army chief of staff. Over the next few years his efforts were primarily devoted to maintaining a
military that, like the rest of the country, was crippled by the Great Depression. He also spoke
frequently of what he considered to be the increasingly serious threat of Communism, both in the
United States and abroad. In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt chose MacArthur as his military
adviser to the Philippines and sent him there to establish a defensive military force. In July 1941,
MacArthur was recalled to active duty and became commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific. A

The Stress Self Assessment Focused On My Stressors Essay
The Nature of Stress self assessment focused on my stressors. I learned that most of my stressors were
chronic; mainly dealing with school and socializing. The stressors were categorized as mental and
spiritual, although I did notice missing family and friends could fall under spiritual and emotional.
Another thing I learned was most of my stressors were caused from my move to Bismarck. For
example, living far from home, new job, and not having close friendships. This form of assessment
didn t work for me because I found I was focusing on the negative and felt more stressed after seeing
all my stressors in a list. The Signs of Stress assessment focused on my personal symptoms of stress. I
previously noticed these happened, but I never drew the connection to stress. For example, I normally
have very clear skin, but every once in awhile I ll break out. The effects of stress are physiological.
Now that I have a list of my signs of stress, I am able to recognize when situations like break outs
happen what is really going on. The Personality Survey was to determine if I had a hardi personality.
Before starting the assessment, I predicted I would be classified with the hardi personality because I
handle stress well. The categories I scored highest on were I consider myself an optimist , I approach
new situations with the idea that I will learn something valuable , and I am strong willed . The one I

The Power Of Flattery In King Lear
In the year 1605, the oldest daughter of an elderly man claimed her father was senile and no longer
could make decisions on his own. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate.
The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and
dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have
been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear
showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of
love and flattery.
In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters
Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him
the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and
authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father,
Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear
since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be
married to the king of France without any dowry. He then divides his kingdom between the two
daughters who flattered him, Goneril and Regan. Brian Sheerin in his article, Making Use of Nothing:

When voting, people are usually going to vote for their own personal well being. Although voters may

By party identification, political scientists mean a psychological attachment to a party rather than a
rational choice based on the party s aims, promises or practises. It has a lot to do with a party s public
image which is also a big deciding factor amongst non partisan voters.
The media has a lot to do with a party s image, as it is the main and often only way many people
receive information about politics. The media in Britain is free, and is not controlled by the
government, meaning broadcasters are able to decide the content of political broadcasts. However
guidelines issued by the IBA and BBC ensures political balance and impartiality. A channel will
normally present balanced argument by using representatives of different political parties or groups.
How a party is perceived through the media is vital for gaining public support. The national press
often shows strong party bias. Many people read newspapers and until recently many actively
supported the Conservative Party and urged readers to vote Conservative. Tabloid newspapers tend to
be highly partisan with news, opinion and party propaganda mixed together. Many national
newspapers since 1997 have supported labour , one of the biggest shifts being in the Sun s support.
It is through the media that a party s public image is formed. Voter perceptions of the competence or

Flannery O Connor s Everything That Rises Must Converge...
The story that i ve decided to do my literature essay on is Flannery O Connor s Everything That Rises
Must Converge . The story starts off with a son, a recent college graduate who currently sells
typewriters, escorting his mom on the bus to her exercise classes. Throughout the whole story it gives
many hints towards the son, Julian s irritation of his mother. The mother would brag about how her
grandfather owned slaves at a plantation, and would speak out loud to other strangers how she was
glad that the bus she was hopping on didn t have any black people on it. It was very clear in the story
that Julian s mother was racist but Julian didn t feel the same way about African Americans. Julian
actually wanted to embrace black people and wanted to know more about them. When he sat on the
bus, he would ponder thoughts of one day having a long conversation with an intellectual black
person, or maybe even bringing home an African American girlfriend one day. Suddenly black people
start to hop on the same bus as Julian and his mother. His mother starts to be overly nice to the African
Americans, the type of nice where you can tell that her true feelings for the person is pity. Theres key
detail where Julian s mother is wearing an ugly hat that doesn t actually fit her appearance, however
there is a black female who has the exact same hat on and it looks better on herself. She becomes
upset when she sees her son sitting next to one of the black men, but she doesn t say anything.

Too many standards: Cynthia Schmeiser, president and chief operating officer of ACT s education

State learning standards are often too wide and not deep enough. [High school teachers] are trying to
cover too much ground more ground than colleges deem necessary in the limited time they have with
students. (Olson, 2007, p. 20) 2. Standards that are not of equal importance: ACT s 2005 06 National
Curriculum study showed that college instructors largely disapproved of their state s academic content
standards. Two thirds of those who responded said their state standards prepared students poorly or
very poorly for college level work. High school teachers, on the other hand, felt differently, with a
majority responding that their state standards prepared students well or very well for college level
work (Marklein, 2007). Not all state standards are of equal importance, and what students get tested
on may not be what is most important. 3. Standards that lack unidimensionality: Marzano cites the

The Reality Of Romanticism In Madame Bovary

The reality of Romanticism
Realism is a literary movement and artistic movement of the 19th century where authors give an exact
representation of society, nature and people as they are. Throughout this century, numerous problems
were emerging in society in Europe because of the Industrial revolution which took place between
1760 until around 1840. Problems such as poverty, poor working conditions, poor living conditions,
and life was no longer a fairy and these changes influenced art and literature. In France, many writers,
painters and artists represented the reality of life in their works.
Gustave Flaubert as well as many other French artists described their society with as much detail and
honesty as they could possibly fit. They wanted art to be a testament of the contemporary society and
the romantic works did not quite represent life accurately. The artists of the realism period valued
science over supernatural, dirty truth over beautiful lies and sometimes they were criticized for
exposing problems of the society that no one dared to expose, such as the role of women in society.
After publishing Madame Bovary, Flaubert received a lot of criticism for his work. The main character

romantic antagonist. The fact that he is an impostor and a liar was probably Flaubert s way to show a
contrast between realism and romanticism. Every character has so much to tell about society at the
time, and we can expect it to be

The Presidency Of 44th Us President Barak Obama
The presidency of 44th US President Barak Obama has been marked with rather prominent and
significant shifts in policy, reverberating throughout many areas of the country. One of the president s
most controversial proposals that has yet to be fully acted upon is providing a pathway to citizenship
for undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States. Supporters of the legislation point
to a variety of moral and economic reasons to justify their position while opponents retaliate with their
own concerns about the fairness of this policy action. For many against this pathway, citizenship is a
delicate conceptual idea that already has a clearly defined pathway within the United States.

It can further be argued that Aristotle is solely interest in the actions of the citizen in regard to their
virtue than simply their relative nature or disposition. In order to have a great appreciation for biology,
it could be argued that one should have a basic understanding and appreciation of the cells that
compose all life on Earth. In the same vein, a chemist might be more appreciative of chemical
reactions when they are able to understanding the reactions happening at the molecular level between
the elements involved. Much in the same way, Aristotle as an appreciator of the state attempts to gain
a better understand of what makes up that state by proclaiming, a state is composite, and, like any
other whole, made up of many parts; these are the citizens, who compose it. (Arist. Pol. III,1, 2).
When trying to demystify the term of citizenship, Aristotle is quick to dismiss multiple commonly
associated definitions. For example, many would assume that living in a state is enough to make one a
citizen of said state. However, as Aristotle argues, there are a variety of people that live in the state
such as women and slaves that do not have the ability to exercise certain political rights and also lack
the ability to be a citizen. This definition can generally be agreed upon even when relating it back to
the world today where numerous people can live in a state but not be citizens, such as the
aforementioned undocumented immigrants in the

Introduction Of Louis Vuitton Malletier
Louis Vuitton Malletier, most commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton, was established in 1854 by
Louis Vuitton, who pursued his impetuous passion for the fashion industry by constructing his own
luxury fashion retail company. Louis Vuitton, who was only 10 when his mother passed away, decided
to leave his home at the age of 13, alone and on foot, bound for Paris. He traveled for more than two
years, taking odd jobs to feed himself along the way and staying wherever he could find shelter, as he
walked the 292 mile trek from his native Anchay to Paris. He arrived in 1837, at the age of 16. After
arriving, Louis noticed the wide spread poverty, but what really peaked his interest was how Paris was
being transformed by the industrial revolution. Vuitton met a successful box maker and packer named
Monsieur Marechal, who took Louis on as an apprentice to his craft. In 19th century Europe, box
making and packing was a highly respectable and urbane craft. A box maker and packer custom made
all boxes to fit the goods they stored and they personally loaded and unloaded the boxes. It took
Vuitton only a few years to stake out a reputation amongst Paris s fashionable class as one of the city s
premier practitioners of his new craft. In 1854 at age 33, Vuitton married 17 year old Clemence Emilie
Parriaux. Soon after the marriage, he left Marechal s shop, and inaugurated his own workshop of box

This activity is a combination of good quality content like information, personal views, opinions,

the good quality content makes online social media a rich source of information, consumption of poor
quality content can degrade user experience, and have inappropriate impact in the real world. In

Essay On Marshmallow Testing
Do your impulses affect your future? In 1968 an experiment was done trying to prove this very thing
called the Marshmallow test. This test would try and see how well a child can control their impulses
for sugary treats. The test went well and after many years they checked back on the children to see
how this little test is correlated to their high school test scores. Its results were quite stunning with
both the first test of the 60s and the second test in the 70s trying to see how to alter the results with
different variables
The first experiment started by bringing a group of children, about the age of four, and presenting
them with a simple option, they can either take the marshmallow at anytime or wait fifteen minutes
and get two marshmallows. Needless to say most kids took the first Marshmallow instead of waiting.
The average wait time was just a measly two minutes. It wasn t until their High school years that they

Some say because they are so young it s hard to tell whether or not the marshmallow was a sufficient
driving point. There is also the huge variable of whether or not the kids are hungry or not. That could

The last thing is that it could all just be a coincidence but that is highly unlikely. So it may be wrong in
its endeavors to prove how willpower and impulse affect us.
In summary, the marshmallow test is very influential and well thought out experiment. It tries to prove
the idea of willpower and that had never gotten any attention from science until that point and now it s
one of the leading experiments on willpower to this day. Whether or not the concern with odd

How Did The Gold Rush Affect Immigration
The Gold Rush had an enormous impact on immigration globally, as it brought people from all over
the people. People from countries such as China, Mexico, France and other parts of Europe came to
California in hopes of finding gold and living a happy life. Not only did the presence of immigrants
help the cities grow physically, the immigrants who came from across the globe helped the cities grow
culturally and economically. These immigrants brought with them their own language, culture, and
beliefs. They helped make California very rich and diverse in culture. Particularly, it was the Chinese
immigrants, who came in large numbers in search for gold. These immigrants boosted by economy by
working in factories and eventually building the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to history.com, At the time, the population of the territory consisted of 6,500 Californians
(people of Spanish or Mexican descent); 700 foreigners (primarily Americans); and 150,000 Native
Americans . As immigrants began settling in, the population of California territory grew exponentially.
As stated in history.com, the non native language of the California territory was some 100,000 by the
end of 1849. This was a hundred times was than the population in California prior to the discovery of
gold (1848). In 1845, the population in the city of San Francisco was around 400, but by 1860, when
the rush had decelerated, the population was well over 56,000. The state s population by the end of
1860 was 380,000. The immigrants who traveled to California were very diverse, coming from China,
Mexico, Ireland, France, and even as far as Australia. France alone drew 30,000 immigrants. China
attracted 20,000 immigrants in the year 1852 alone, as many as 2,000 immigrants arrived in a single
day. (Rice) Even though there was a rich diversity in the ethnicity, there was a small diversity in
gender as nine out of every ten forty niners were male. Gold mining reached its highest point by 1852
and by then, about 81 million dollar worth of gold was taken out of the

Chris Brown s Cash Isn T Easy
Breezy Ain t Yeezy, So Gettin Cash Isn t Easy Remember way back in January when Chris Brown was

classy response? Obviously, someone is looking to get a check or start some sh*t, Brown starts his

Jason Derulo video. She came to Vegas and she probably came to my room and was too ugly to get in.
We ll, it s been over a month now, so it s time for another Chris Brown meltdown rant. Granted when
it comes to rants he isn t Kanye. Apparently he isn t Kanye when it comes to fashion either, thus this
latest episode. Brown was showing off his new clothing line Black Pyramid on Instagram. Fans
noticed more than the clothes, they noticed the prices: $70 shirts, $90 shirts, $98 sweatpants and
hoodies. When the fans started to comment on the prices instead of the clothing, Brown took offense.

Roe Vs Wade Research Paper
Ever since I can remember abortion has been a very controversial issue to talk about. Roe v. Wade was
a Supreme Court landmark case on this controversial issue. This case was the beginning of a national
debate that continues to date. This case took place in Texas, before the case the law said that unless
you need to save the woman s life because they are endangered then abortion is illegal. The decision
in this case made it legal for women to decide. To this day people are fighting against this. Pro choice
are people who are pro having the choice to have an abortion or not. There are a lot of people who
would just like to make an abortion illegal. I am pro choice and thanks to Roe v. Wade the right for a
woman to decide what she wants to do with her own body was fought against the U.S. Supreme court.
Instead of ending the debate of abortion this decision only made it worse. People who were against it
multiplied and strengthened their groups. As R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist ...

Nixon never publicly commented on the decision but when the Nixon tapes were release you could
hear that he said sometimes abortion are necessary, although things concerned him about it. Other
presidents who have supported it and continue to do so are Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack
Obama. In the 2008 elections it was revealed that Normal L. McCorvey had endorsed Republican
candidate Ron Paul. McCorvey said I support Ron Paul for president because we share the same goal,
that of overturning Roe v Wade (Ertelt, Steven L.). Who would have thought that the original Roe
would then want to overturn the case. Norma L. McCorvey became a pro life advocate in 1995. She
does not want women using this as a form of birth control she says women have come up to her
thanking her for their five or six abortions. This is why states like Texas have taken it upon them to

Contrast Between Love and Violence in Shakespeare s Romeo...
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford upon Avon in the time of Elizabeth I. Romeo Juliet is one
of his most famous plays and has always been extremely popular in mainstream and in contemporary
media, mainly because the ideals and issues brought up in the play are still very valid in modern times.
The play revolves around the, aptly named, Romeo Juliet and their forbidden love and their struggle to
love one another with each others families, Capulets and Montagues, feuding with each other,
underneath the romanticism it is a story of a plan going wrong. I am going to analyse and interpret
how two very contrasting things; love and violence relate to each other in the play, the effect they have
on the characters and the events that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing that can be used as evidence to show this is a feud is the sheer length of the affair, in
which there is several fights with no sign of either side backing down, until the Prince shows up and
declares that if there are anymore disagreements there will be dire consequences, the fact of the Prince
getting involved also shows that the feud is a big thing, that, and the punishment of death if there is
another fight, shows this is a full throttle family war underpinning the whole play affecting and
infecting everything, mainly Romeo and Juliet s love for each other, everything would ve been fine if
not for the families feuding. Other, more subtle, conflicts in the play are Romeo s feelings for Rosaline
as well as Juliet, Romeo thought that Rosaline was a nice girl whom he could love, but she turned out
to be shallow and so he is sad, during this time he is questioned by Benvolio, his cousin, something of
note here is that Romeo seems to be expressing his thoughts on the conflict between the Montagues
and Capulets at one point he says: O

Erich Remarque s Magnum Of All Quiet On The Western Front
The First World War, or the ill named War to End all Wars, was one that brought hell to Earth and
mankind. For the first time in history, industry had appeared to make killing efficient. In static
trenches, young men from around the world were killed by artillery kilometres away, poison gas, and
disease. All nations in the conflict experienced the creation of a Lost Generation; men who lost their
lives, limbs, or the ability to live a normal life. Paul Baumer, the young German protagonist of All
Quiet on the Western Front becomes a member of this sad generation through his sad journey to the
ultimate elixir, death. In Erich Remarque s magnum opus All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul
Baumer is faced by various emotionally jarring tests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Germans repel the French, Paul and his company push back, and for a moment, turn from men
to animals. While running and killing Paul illustrates, We have lost all feeling for one another. We can
hardly control ourselves when our glance lights on the form of some other men. We are insensible,
dead men, who through some trick, some dreadful magic, are still able to run and to kill (Remarque
55). This moment demonstrates the damage that has occurred. Paul already considered himself a dead
man, a men that has lost all humanity. It is this moment that is the first step in the hero s slow demise,
in which he loses all joy and hope. It is impossible for, in the conditions described, to be able to return
home; death becomes the only elixir. Hence, it only takes two more events in his short life for Paul
Baumer to realise this elixir. After the initial French Offensive, Paul is given time to recover, getting
leave and additional training. But, when he returns back to the front, he reaches the climax of the
journey, as he kills a man in close quarters. While on a night expedition into No Man s Land, Baumer
is surprised by a Frenchman, but is able to swiftly recover and, to his understanding, kill him. But in
the morning, Paul is confronted with the truth: Then, he opens his eyes... The body is perfectly still

Analysis Of The Machine Stops
The Machine Stops is a short, science fiction story written by E.M. Forester. Set in a post apocolypic
dystopian society, the two main characters, Vashti and Kuno, as well as everyone else, live
underground with the help of the Machine. The Machine provides every single person and their needs,
including the air they breath, because the surface of the Earth can no longer sustain mankind. Not only
does the Machine give every necessity to its people, it also provides the Book, which contains rules to
help the people survive. This often leads the people to worship the Machine as a type of deity. In the
book The Machine Stops , which was written by E.M. Forester, the main characters Vashti and Kuno
have multiple differences with few similarites. Vashti and Kuno are completely different in apperance.
When being introduced to Vashti, the book describes her as a swaddled lump of flesh a woman, about
five feet high, with a face as white as a fungus. (Forester 1). This is a very strong and disturbing
representation of a women. This implies that Vashti doesn t move much due to inactiveness, and also
implies that she doesn t go outside much, more or less because of the fact that she lives underground.
On the other hand, Kuno has a very athletic build. When being introduced to Kuno, we learn that he
was sent away as a baby because all babies were sent away from their mothers at birth. We also learn
that Kuno possessed some kind of physical strength, because he escaped the Machine,

La Vita Nuova
The promise of a new life at a wedding is an optimistic rebirth; the loss of a lover is an obligatory
uprooting. Allegra Goodman s La Vita Nuova records the changed life of a freshly dumped bride to
be. As she endures her altered life, Amanda occupies herself by babysitting her student Nathaniel.
Amanda uses irony, dark humor, and juxtaposition as a coping mechanism; instead of facing the new
life she has to live, she uses sardonic reflection to elongate her mourning period.
When Amanda digs up memories of her ex fiancé, her timing and choice of anecdote help her wallow
in rejection for longer. Reflecting on her breakup, she says We had too many differences... For
example, I loved him and he didn t love me (Goodman). She proves this with the things she
remembers her fiancé saying to her. There are two basic types of ex fiance quotes: insults with witty
retorts from Amanda and compliments contrasted with Amanda s current cynical views. As an
example of the former, while spending time with Nathaniel, Amanda thinks of her fiance s cutting
words: It s hard to be with you, her fiancé had said. I feel like I m suffocating. Open a window,
Amanda had said (Goodman). Instead of living in the moment and enjoying Nathaniel s company, she
insists on dwelling on the past.

its darkness, responding to a compliment with You re not supposed to say that... You re supposed to

When you think of great moms throughout television past they exhibit the same list of endearing

qualities but they have evolved. Real moms today are typically balancing a full time career, a family
and a social life. Katie Otto, from the show American Housewife, possess numerous qualities

She and her husband Greg have three children, Taylor, Oliver and Anna Kat. Greg is a college
professor in the stuffy town of Westport where they rent a modest home and drive a mini van. The
Westport community is a rich one; mansions and luxury cars surround the Otto s. Needless to say they
do not exactly fit in. That might bother some moms but not Katie, she doesn t try to be someone she is
not.
She is quick witted, confident and unapologetic which doesn t boast well with the other moms in
town. She doesn t care about material things or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pain, Acute Pain And Chronic Pain
Pain is an experience that involves both the mind and the body. It is an uncomfortable feeling that
signals your brain that there may be something wrong with your body. Pain is an irritating and
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience which may be caused by a damage in the tissues, one s
beliefs or thoughts, or environmental stressors such as one s job or traffic. Pain is a significant stress
both physically and emotionally. It may cause discomfort, distress or agony. It may be steady or
throbbing. It maybe stabbing, aching or pinching.
In the past, many people thought that pain was a result of a damaged tissues. However now the
researchers have come to find out that pain is an intricate process that might or might not include
tissue damage and most likely involves social, psychological and emotional factors, which can either
cause, increase, or decrease painful sensations.
There are two types of pain, acute pain and chronic pain.
Acute pain is a short lasting pain, which can be easily described and observed. Acute pain begins
suddenly and is a sharp pain. It s a warning of a disease or a threat to the body. Acute pain might be
just mild and may last for a moment, or it may be severe and last for weeks or months. Acute pain
does not last longer than 6 months. If the pain lasts longer than 6 months than it may proceed on to
chronic pain.
Chronic pain tends to affect a person s whole life including a change in their personality, the activities

  • 2. Reasons Why the United States Failed in the Vietnam War President Johnson ordered revenge air strikes against the patrol boat s bases. After that, Congress had approved the resolution eighty eight to two and Johnson had been granted the powers to prosecute the war in Vietnam. Senator Wayne Morse or Oregon voted against it, reminding McNamara that the North Vietnamese patrol boat attacks had been provoked by U.S. presence in Tonkin Bay (Armstrong 52). It was apparent that the past of American policy in South Vietnam seemed to be leading America into war. The United States had affiliated themselves with a policy that was a form of American colonialism, of saving U.S. interests at the cost of the Vietnamese people. The Tonkin Resolution was evidence. Prior to the war President Franklin D. Roosevelt had stated that American policy should be changed, but no steps were taken to change it. In 1954, the U.S. refused to sign the Geneva Accord, so from then on America claimed that North Vietnam was violating the accord by sending help to the rebels against the South Vietnamese Government. But we decided not to go to the countries that signed the agreement and who were responsible for its enforcement. But, instead we violated by joining in the fighting. Every American person or item that was sent to South Vietnam was a violation. In January 1965, five months after the Gulf of Tonkin incident, West Point graduate Richard Steinke refused to join a unit operating in Vietnam (Schutts). Many knew that the decision to join the war was not a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Biographical Summary On Frankenstein Biographical Summary Author Mary Shelley was born August 30th, 1797 to philosopher and writer William Godwin and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Mary s mother passed away early in Shelley s life and wasn t a prominent figure. Her father remarried another woman named Mary Jane Clairmont. Shelley and her stepmother rarely got along so a female role model was not something Shelley received in her early years. Clairmont refused to send Shelley to be educated at a school but has no hesitation when sending her own daughter. Even without a formal education Shelley would still attempt to seek knowledge through books and would often daydream to escape the everyday struggles of her life at home. She also took up writing as an activity in which to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It didn t get any easier when two more of Mary and Percy s children passed away at a young age. Only one of their infants lived past their childhood and into adulthood. Years later, Mary was impacted with another heartache when her husband drowned in 1822. Leaving Mary a widow at 24 to care for her son and herself. She continued to write and eventually passed away at the age of 53 in 1851. Critical analysis The novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, was a piece written in 1817 during a time when women weren t considered to be adequate authors. Shelley s work is both intriguing as it is thought provoking. She brings to light the true nature of society and life altogether when tested. She factors in how the outside world can influence our choices in writing. George Levine from The Ambiguous Heritage of Frankenstein and Benjamin Truitt from Frankenstein Critical Analysis and Literary Criticism both share their opinions about Shelley s piece of written work. Frankenstein is a story full of questions and excitement. What is interesting about Shelley s novel is the absence of God and multiple female characters. She ignores the proper way of conception and birth. Due to this, the science of what Victor accomplished had gone awry. His goal while creating the monster was a perfect race in which they would help mankind, even though the dream of the new race is...exploded in the end (Levine 12). Victor Frankenstein ... • 4. Aircraft Operations During World War I World War I, although originating in Europe, affected people on a global scale. Advancements in technology across the globe were at a peak, and flying was at the forefront. Later in the war capabilities in the air, whether offensive or defensive, would play a pivotal role in the successes and failures across all avenues of combat. The war started with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austria on June 28, 1914, by Slav nationals when the Archduke was in Sarajevo. As Serbia declared war against Vienna, the governments of France and Russia quickly became involved. Germany quickly entered into the fray, opposing France and Russia. Shortly thereafter, Great Britain took the side of France and Russia forming the Entente Alliance. The United States held a completely neutral stance for a great deal of time. Forty seven days from September 26, 1918 November 11, 1918, of cold, combat hell fell upon more than 1.2 million American troops at the campaign of Meuse Argonne. Two incidents that led to the United States entering Word War I included the sinking of the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anti Aircraft Artillery units utilized observation balloons (dirigibles) around coalition bases. • 5. Boorstin On Dissent And Disagreement Boorstin makes a profoundly wise distinction between disagreement and dissent. Right after World war II (1945), the American Society experienced a great cultural change as minority groups started to take a stand against discrimination. Such a stand bolsters Boorstin s statement that A liberal society thrives on disagreement but is killed by dissension. Disagreement is the lifeblood of democracy, dissention is its cancer. This description clearly relates to the society during the 1960s, for the expression he uses, Dissent is the great problem of America today, is found in The Decline of Radicalism which was published in 1969. Leading up to the 1960s, discrimination has only been a disagreement, but in the 1960s, it became a dissension. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the Civil Rights Movement in full force, it was time the government took serious action, or the cancer would spread. The ongoing racism at the time, made African Americans feel apart from others more than ever. Such isolation can be visible in the complete negligence of the Brown v Board of Education decision. Instead of following the Warren Court s decision of desegregating public schools, in places like Little Rock Arkansas, schools were still segregated. The transfer from a disagreement to disension marks a time in which African Americans led several protests that sparked national outrage. The Woolworth Sit in, for example, had significant impact on the South as the sit ins successfully desegregated lunch counters and other public places. The March on Washington which is the site of Martin Luther King Jr. s I have a dream speech , convinced the government to take action concerning the civil rights movement before more violence could occur. In the following years, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed the prevention of black citizen class from voting, and seeing that they were threatened to not vote in the south, the government provided federal oversight of elections in places of evident discrimination. Boostin explains, that the liberal society...is killed by dissension, which was the case during the Civil Rights Movement. If the government had not given African Americans more rights, the cancerous side, continued widespread rebellions against prolonged unfair treatment, would have destroyed the American ... • 7. Reflection About Friendship My partner, Naeem Mohammad, and I met on December 9. During our last meeting together, we drove around St. Louis and had dinner at Raising Cane s, while talking about college system and family. Again, Naeem has greatly improved his English since our last meeting on November 18th. We were able to talk more in detail about the Saudi Arabian college system and family back in Saudi Arabia. This parallels a development breakthrough in my revival of Chinese: Siri can recognize me speaking in Chinese. While not something I should be particularly proud of, I can make this connection between this and development of Naeem s language throughout the semester. He can hold longer conversations, and his vocabulary has improved to the point where he told me that he can skip a level of English. This reminds me of being able to understand one s strengths and weaknesses, because it can make a difference in how one approach life. This is key when we discussed the above topics, where I rarely had to help him finish his sentences and can describe situations well. Speaking of which, as Naeem drove me around St. Louis, we talked about the financial aid system at SLU and the college system in Saudi Arabia, where I told him about 97% of the students here receive grants, loans, and work study. In contrast, he told me that not only Saudi Arabian college is free, but students also receive a $300 allowance per month. This is reminiscent of when my father went to college after the universities in China opened after the Cultural Revolution, where tuition, and room and board were free, and they also give a sum of money. In education in Saudi Arabia, Naeem attributes this to not many people decide to continue with college, and I can attest that to China as well, where education today is compulsory until the 9th grade. I perceived the initiative Naeem talked about back in Saudi Arabia to improve the access of education to more people. It intrigues me how Saudi Arabians approach education differently how the United States approach it. As I am going into the medical field, I would want to note the differences in how I approach healthcare. It is not a business; it s a universal right. • 8. Pros And Cons Of The Scientific Revolution Scientific Revolution In 16th and 17th century Europe, the Scientific Revolution was occurring. This meant that intellectuals were beginning to create meaning of the universe through mathematics and sciences. Their new ideas clashed with the ideas of the late medieval times, like Scholasticism and Aristotelian philosophy. The ideas of natural philosophers like Tycho Brahe, Rene Descartes, Galileo Galilei, and Copernicus emerged to provide new interpretations of the world through science and math. During the Scientific Revolution, social factors like sexism specifically hindered scientific work for females, while political leadership and religion both had the ability to hinder and encourage scientific work. Scientific work was encouraged by social factors like religion through religious people who believed that science could contribute to proving God s greatness, and was also promoted through political leaders. Not all religious people believed that scientific work was harming the thinking of others, in fact, some believed it would help people achieve a greater understanding of God. For example, John Calvin believed that astronomy was beneficial and should be continued because it reveals God s wisdom (Doc. 2). During a time period where the belief in God was still prevalent, Calvin s purpose in speaking about the advantages of astronomy was to teach believers that not all science is bad, some sciences may help people understand God. • 9. Gene Expression in Eukaryotes Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes. Transcription Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the transcription initiation complex. The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis continues downstream the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Lakota tribe, the grandmother said that when the Deer Woman takes them into her lodge she has sex with them but, when they wake the deer woman is no longer there leaving the man forgetful of his family and in search of the Deer Woman. My family has learned to embrace one another when they have fallen into temptation, where the Lakotas would cast them out. My relatives have gone through many hardships and difficult situations but the morals have set into our heads like Koskalaka s grandmother set into his head. The many men whom the Deer Woman lured into her lodge lost complete contact with their families and thus themselves. They left their family s worried about where they could be and what could be happening to them. • 11. Gender Roles In Northanger Abbey And Frances Burney Everywhere we look, we see differences in race, gender, and status. Some people are held to a higher standard and are given more privilege than others. This inequality is seen today and was seen throughout the 18th century. Not many women have the courage to speak out about what happens, but two brave female authors have done so. Jane Austen wrote Northanger Abbey and Frances Burney wrote Evelina, and both novels bring to light the injustices women face. Both female authors used the negative aspect of gender roles that come along with growing up as female to show that an individual can surpass limitations and stereotypes through personal strength. Northanger Abbey is a typical romance novel that has the ending that all readers anticipate the girl falls in love with the boy and they live happily ever after. However, Catherine grows as an individual and surpasses the stereotypical characteristics of a female during the time period. The novel brings to light the gender roles that were instilled during the 18th century by using male characters that strongly enforce what is believe during that time period. Henry Tilney says, In marriage, the man is supposed to provide for the support of the woman; the woman to make the home agreeable to the man; he is to purvey and she is to smile. But in dancing, their duties are exactly changed; the agreeableness, the compliance, are expected from him, while she furnishes the fan and the lavender water. (Austen 73). Henry jokingly ... • 13. A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things. Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every corner of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and energy climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear that this symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the community. Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises Tarry and the youth of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s direction of Tarry Flynn conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Church and the youth of 1930 s rural Ireland. This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this. In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world. Ireland was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be practising Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives and provided the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of submission and dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. Single line plans are meant purely for use in one phone only. This is the best route for people who don t have spouses or children who may want their phones on the plan as well. Single line plans are much cheaper than family plans since they only cover one device. Family plans are designed to cover various devices, and they add a lot of elbow room for additional devices to be added in the future. Family plans are more expensive than single line plans, but it s a much better option for people who want to add numerous devices such as ones belonging to spouses and children to their plan. • 16. What Is The Fashion Of Fashion In The 1960s 60s Fashion in America The 1960s were a time of big change across the United States of America. Fashion was one of the most memorable (parts) of the 60s. The 1950s sound was still popular and the waist tight skirts and clean, sharp look was still worn by many. The style of fashion was new and unfamiliar to the people who grew up in the 1940s and 50s. One of the most surprising trends was the box dresses that women wore. They were very short and showed much more skin than the parents of the teenagers in that era, would have liked. They were used to much more conservative types of clothing. Fashion evolved, along with the new generation who inspired that fashion. Hairstyles and clothing changed, due to a new era of icons and state of minds. Hairstyles in the 50s were much more traditional and looked very conservative. They replicated the styles of the 1930s and 40s. They had many more curls than the hairstyles of the 60s. The women wore buffontants and flipped hair. Bouffants had hair above the crown of the head, covering the ears and women who wore this style usually had shoulder length hair. Another popular women s style was the flipped hair Usually worn with bouffants, the flipped hairstyle was one where the ends of the hair were flipped in toward the face. Both hair styles were used in ads for clothes and products during the 60s, spreading the look across America with the help of icons. David Cheng Ms. Chappell AP English 15 November 2015 The Effect of Structure on Purpose in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn follows a Russian prison inmate, Shukhov, through a standard day in the gulag system. The novel displays Shukhov s struggle to survive through inhumane conditions and how he deals and tolerates his suppressive and endless lifestyle. The novel provides insight into the differing ideals and philosophical views that the very diverse groups of prisoners hold. By using tools such as perspective and time, Solzhenitsyn provides a platform from which he can bring multiple levels of meaning to an otherwise monotonous and uneventful account. Time plays an important role in the structure on One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The lack of chapters, sections, or parts in the book keep the narration continuous, creating the effect of an elongated day that drags on. In the following passage, Shukhov reveals the how time is perceived in the camp: No zek ever lays eyes on a clock or watch... All a zek needs to know is how soon is reveille? How long till work parade? Till dinnertime? (171) . The effect of time elongation is done with the lack of specific times; events are only described chronologically and specific times are rarely used. • 21. Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including; tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account, American Opportunity Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees. There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child s college. The plan will help families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and prepaid. Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose the savings plan, it comes with different options to invest the family s money in. The account will either increase or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family to pre pay all of the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a private college. Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally tax free. Therefore, the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529 plan does not have to be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control of the account. The account owner can withdraw funds at any time, but non qualified withdrawals will earn income tax and a ten percent tax. Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate. The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of love and flattery. In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father, Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be married to the king of France without any dowry. The story starts off with a son, a recent college graduate who currently sells typewriters, escorting his mom on the bus to her exercise classes. Throughout the whole story it gives many hints towards the son, Julian s irritation of his mother. The mother would brag about how her grandfather owned slaves at a plantation, and would speak out loud to other strangers how she was glad that the bus she was hopping on didn t have any black people on it. It was very clear in the story that Julian s mother was racist but Julian didn t feel the same way about African Americans. Julian actually wanted to embrace black people and wanted to know more about them. When he sat on the bus, he would ponder thoughts of one day having a long conversation with an intellectual black person, or maybe even bringing home an African American girlfriend one day. Suddenly black people start to hop on the same bus as Julian and his mother. His mother starts to be overly nice to the African Americans, the type of nice where you can tell that her true feelings for the person is pity. The Reality Of Romanticism In Madame Bovary Darrell Ahouansou Mrs DeVaney Lovinguth ENG 272 research paper 11/22/2014 The reality of Romanticism Realism is a literary movement and artistic movement of the 19th century where authors give an exact representation of society, nature and people as they are. Throughout this century, numerous problems were emerging in society in Europe because of the Industrial revolution which took place between 1760 until around 1840. Problems such as poverty, poor working conditions, poor living conditions, and life was no longer a fairy and these changes influenced art and literature. In France, many writers, painters and artists represented the reality of life in their works. Gustave Flaubert as well as many other French artists described their society with as much detail and honesty as they could possibly fit. They wanted art to be a testament of the contemporary society and the romantic works did not quite represent life accurately. The artists of the realism period valued science over supernatural, dirty truth over beautiful lies and sometimes they were criticized for exposing problems of the society that no one dared to expose, such as the role of women in society. In the same vein, a chemist might be more appreciative of chemical reactions when they are able to understanding the reactions happening at the molecular level between the elements involved. Online Social Media And Social Networking Essay Malicious URL Detection First Author1, Second Author2, Third Author3 1Details author1@email.com 2Details author2@email.com 3Details author3@email.com Abstract: Online social media services like Facebook witness an exponential increase in user activity when an event takes place in the real world. This activity is a combination of good quality content like information, personal views, opinions, comments, as well as poor quality content like rumours, spam, and other malicious content. Although, the good quality content makes online social media a rich source of information, consumption of poor quality content can degrade user experience, and have inappropriate impact in the real world. In addition, the enormous popularity, promptness, and reach of online social media services across the world makes it essential to monitor this activity, and minimize the production and spread of poor quality content. Multiple studies in the past have analysed the content spread on social networks during real world events. However, little work has explored the Facebook social network. Two of the main reasons for the lack of studies on Facebook are the strict privacy settings, and limited amount of data available from Facebook, as compared to Twitter. With over 1 billion monthly active users, Facebook is about times bigger than its next biggest counterpart Twitter, and is currently, the largest online social network in the world. In this literature survey, we review the existing research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Essay On Marshmallow Testing Do your impulses affect your future? In 1968 an experiment was done trying to prove this very thing called the Marshmallow test. This test would try and see how well a child can control their impulses for sugary treats. The test went well and after many years they checked back on the children to see how this little test is correlated to their high school test scores. Its results were quite stunning with both the first test of the 60s and the second test in the 70s trying to see how to alter the results with different variables The first experiment started by bringing a group of children, about the age of four, and presenting them with a simple option, they can either take the marshmallow at anytime or wait fifteen minutes and get two marshmallows. Needless to say most kids took the first Marshmallow instead of waiting. The average wait time was just a measly two minutes. It wasn t until their High school years that they would check up on the kids they experimented with. The results showed that kids did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some say because they are so young it s hard to tell whether or not the marshmallow was a sufficient driving point. There is also the huge variable of whether or not the kids are hungry or not. That could ve been a big or the biggest factor against the experiment being false in its impulse based research. The last thing is that it could all just be a coincidence but that is highly unlikely. So it may be wrong in its endeavors to prove how willpower and impulse affect us. In summary, the marshmallow test is very influential and well thought out experiment. It tries to prove the idea of willpower and that had never gotten any attention from science until that point and now it s one of the leading experiments on willpower to this day. Whether or not the concern with odd variables affecting the test are true, you cannot deny the fact that willpower and our impulse help shape who we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing crops in flat and fertile areas and hunting were important to the Inca, because without food, they can t survive. They would keep their soil fertile, they used llama dung, which was one of the animals they worshiped, along with Alpacas. And for hunting, they used spears to kill animals and nets to catch them. So the farms and hunting will be shown around the center and the left and right corners (crops on the left where the Inca village is, and the hunters will go somewhere around the top left of the exhibit) of the exhibit. In order to have farming tools and weapons, they had to build/craft in order to farm or hunt. The most important people there in the Inca were their government/leaders, because without the government/leaders they wouldn t know how to work things out together with one another. They will be shown to the center front of the exhibit. Making clothes were another job that some Inca had to do, because without clothes, they can get cold during winter. The Incas made clothes using llama wool and animal skins. This could be shown somewhere around the village, showing someone making/hanging clothes. Teaching was another important job. Teaching helped children learn to talk, write, and learn to do many other things. Without it, children would grow up not knowing how to communicate while working, writing, and not even knowing how to do jobs. Teaching will be shown around where the mountains are, which will be ... This case was the beginning of a national debate that continues to date. This case took place in Texas, before the case the law said that unless you need to save the woman s life because they are endangered then abortion is illegal. The decision in this case made it legal for women to decide. To this day people are fighting against this. Pro choice are people who are pro having the choice to have an abortion or not. Romeo Juliet is one of his most famous plays and has always been extremely popular in mainstream and in contemporary media, mainly because the ideals and issues brought up in the play are still very valid in modern times. The play revolves around the, aptly named, Romeo Juliet and their forbidden love and their struggle to love one another with each others families, Capulets and Montagues, feuding with each other, underneath the romanticism it is a story of a plan going wrong. Other, more subtle, conflicts in the play are Romeo s feelings for Rosaline as well as Juliet, Romeo thought that Rosaline was a nice girl whom he could love, but she turned out to be shallow and so he is sad, during this time he is questioned by Benvolio, his cousin, something of note here is that Romeo seems to be expressing his thoughts on the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets at one point he says: O ...
