The method described in this presentation is just one way of pulling the build off, mostly based on what my team did. There is no doubt that there might be better ways. The purpose of this presentation was for the newbies to see how the various mechnicals come together, their relative proportions, sizes, positions, layouts, etc.
Also, I shall carry out corrections and revisions from time to time, so that more information can be passed on effectively to successive BAJA aspirants.
All Terrain Vehicle specifications and analysis for VIRTUAL BAJA SAE 2016 India. The report is prepared by students of Mechanical Engineering from Tezpur University
•SAE Baja is an Inter-colligate off road racing competition where the top engineering colleges in India successfully fabricate and race there all-terrain vehicles.
•The competition has various automotive giants like Mahindra, General motors etc. powering the event.
•The contest challenges each team to function as a firm whose objective is to design, fabricate, market and race off their vehicles that would be evaluated on a variety of manufacturing angles by various professionals from the sponsoring automotive companies.

Design failure modes and effects analysis (dfmea) of an all terrain vehicleeSAT Journals
Abstract Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) organizes a student engineering design competition named Baja in which an All-terrain vehicle (ATV) is designed and fabricated by undergraduate engineering students. ATV is a vehicle that can run on a wide variety of terrains and travels on low-pressure tires with a seat straddled by the operator. SAE BAJA involves designing and fabrication of a modified and scaled down smaller version of ATV. Starting from initial design and analysis to actual fabrication of ATV, everything is done by the students. As in any engineering design, there is a constant need to design a safe and sustainable vehicle. This involves predicting and defining all failure modes in the initial design step itself. An effective method of doing this failure analysis is DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), which is an extension of popular Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) technique and is done in the design stage. In this paper DFMEA technique is used to list out all modes of failure for various components of the ATV, its causes, effects and ways of preventing it. Risk Priority Number methodology of FMEA is used to find out the components which are more susceptible to failure and needs more attention than others. Keywords: All Terrain Vehicles (ATV), Baja SAE, Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Risk Priority Number (RPN)
A go-kart, also written as go-cart (often referred to as simply a kart), is a type of open-wheel car. Go-karts come in all shapes and forms, from motorless models to high-powered racing machines. Some, such as Superkarts, are able to beat racing cars or motorcycles on long circuits.

54. MY PROFILE..
I had the wonderful opportunity to be the captain of the much acclaimed 'Car#8-
BOSCH Team Stratos, BIT', the team representing the institution at the BAJA
SAEINDIA 2010 Competition, held at NATRAX, near Indore, M.P. This was the first
time such an attempt was made in our college and were the only ones from
Bangalore.
Apart from being the skipper, I had a major role in the design phase of the all-terrain
vehicle (ATV), using CATIA V5 extensively in part design, assembly, anthropometric
analysis and use of in-built analysis package. I was involved in marketing as well,
with the team getting major sponsorship backing from Bosch Ltd., among many
other prominent companies. I’ve created the Team sponsorship brochures. Also have
designed and implemented all the electrical systems in the car.
My team consisted of 20 brilliant 4th, 3rd and 2nd year mechanical students. Our car
was used to inaugurate the event as our team had won laurels for having the Best
Design Report.
We got our first podium finish at the BIAE ATV University Challenge when we finished
at 2nd place in a 21Km endurance race.
55. A FEW TIPS..
You are most likely to have one shot at BAJA. So, keep reliability of all
aspects largely within spec.
Test, test and test more. Parts break when you least expect. This is
that sort of terrain. I suggest atleast a month’s testing.
Never EVER underestimate your opponents.
Rule: OEM parts are ALWAYS more reliable than custom made ones.
Respect the track. Its professionally crafted to reduce your car to
shreds. This is where your worst case scenario is your most likely
scenario.
56. MY BEST WISHES TO ALL FUTURE BAJA
ASPIRANTS!!
-Manish O.
