An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a collection of functions that provide much of the functional capabilities in complex software systems. Most customers are accustomed to interacting with a graphical user interface on the computer. But, many customers do not realize the much of the functionality of a program comes from APIs in the operating system or program's dynamic-link libraries (DLL). So, if the business logic or core functionality is exposed via an API call then and if we want to find functional bugs sooner than API testing may be an approach that provides additional value in your overall test strategy. Additionally, API testing can start even before the user interface is complete so functional capabilities can be tested while designers are hashing out the "look and feel." Futures, actors or iteratees make code easier to write and reason about, and in this talk I'll show a simple solution to make them easier to debug. The tool I present integrates well with the Eclipse plugin for Scala, and shows how a "reactive debugger" might look like.

If you are writing a stateless web application backed up by a database, there is a good chance Elixir is a great fit. However, this is not where it shines. In this talk, we will discuss how to architect Elixir applications in order to leverage the features of the language and of its runtime.
We will look at this both from a lower level, talking about the architecture of processes inside an Elixir application, as well as from a higher perspective of writing Elixir services and architecting systems to play to Elixir's strengths.
We will see practical use cases and discuss design patterns.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
