GraphQL is a powerful way to bridge the gap between frontend and backend. Providing a typed API with introspection. This can be used for code generation or code completion. Because of some misconceptions it can be hard to combine GraphQL with Kafka, but it doesn’t need to be hard. After handling misconceptions like 'Kafka is just a message bus' and 'GraphQL is only for Graph databases' I will have a few demo's how both can be combined. It can be a clear way to make your event sourcing backend available to the frontend. GraphQL can be used to quickly setup a typed API, if you already use ksqlDB.

Until recently, however, that data didn't translate into usable information, so Zarkov was born. Zarkov is system that captures user events, logs them to a MongoDB collection, and aggregates them into useful data about user behavior and project statistics. This talk will discuss the components of Zarkov, including its use of Gevent asynchronous programming, ZeroMQ sockets, and the pymongo/bson driver.

Implementing OpenAPI and GraphQL services with gRPC

Behind every API there's code. REST and GraphQL are powerful interface abstractions but are not so great for writing code (we’re still looking for the programming language where every command is a GET, POST, PUT, or DELETE). When programmers work, they are usually making function calls, and an RPC framework like gRPC allows those functions to be written in a mixture of languages and distributed among many servers. This means that gRPC can be a great way to implement REST and GraphQL APIs at scale. We’ll share open source projects from Google that can be used to implement OpenAPI and GraphQL services with gRPC and give you hands-on experience with both.
