Posterous recently deployed Riak to serve as their content cache. In this talk, Julio Capote will cover why the engineering team chose Riak for the use case. He'll also share some details on the old post cache and its problems, what solutions they evaluated, and how they settled on Riak.
This deck represents our current thinking about the best way to build enterprise SaaS software in 2015 - using a variety of techniques from several disciplines.
Since I wrote this I have also become very interested in resilience engineering and the notion that web developers are primarily engaged in the construction of socio-technical systems. When I rewrite this I plan to talk about how we should try to minimize mean-time-to-recover (MTTR) instead of mean-time-between-failures (MTBF), and how continuous deployment grows a safety culture around your operations.
I redacted most of the examples that illustrate these points because they use sensitive code examples or URLs. If you want to see the rest of slides, join us!

Engage 2020: Hello are you listening, There is stream for everythingFrank van der Linden
The world is changing in a event driven world
Event driven architecture is not a new technology. IBM MQ is already 25 years old.
The popularity is increasing, because it is a robust, decoupled way to exchange data.
Today there are new popular 'new kids on the block'. Kafka is one of them and gets lots of attention also in the enterprise.
The principle however are still the same, called Pub Sub principle.
HCL will add to the App Dev pack the possibility to consume and produce to a broker/stream.
There are frameworks who helps you to focus on the business logic.
In this session I will explain this principle and show you that is not that difficult to make use of it. Connect your existing code to a service bus or queue, producing and consuming.
NCUG 2019: Spring forward: an introduction to Spring boot and Thymeleaf for (...Frank van der Linden
The world of (XPages) developer is moving fast. Customers rethinking platforms and solutions. Spring Boot makes it easy to create stand-alone, production-grade Spring based Applications that you can "just run". In combination with Thymeleaf can it be good alternative for your XPages applications.
In this session I give an introduction of Spring Boot and Thymeleaf and how to get started. I will show the differences and similarities between Spring Boot in combination with Thymeleaf and XPages.
I will explain the challenges I faced when moving an application.
Devops and Immutable infrastructure - Cloud Expo 2015 NYCJohn Willis
You often hear the two titles of "DevOps" and "Immutable Infrastructure" used independently.
In his session at DevOps Summit, John Willis, Technical Evangelist for Docker, will cover the union between the two topics and why this is important. He will cover an overview of Immutable Infrastructure then show how an Immutable Continuous Delivery pipeline can be applied as a best practice for "DevOps." He will end the session with some interesting case study examples.

Automating everything with Microsoft FlowJaap Brasser
Microsoft Flow is a great workflow automation tool, but most likely PowerShell is not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Flow. In this session I will show how to integrate Microsoft Flow in PowerShell scripts and vice-versa and to highlight the benefits that this provide. This demo-heavy session will feature a lot of PowerShell code and live demos.¬¬¬
Using Microsoft Flow to automate our workflows, automatically retweet based on certain hash tags and how powershell.cool was built entirely by content collected and generated by Microsoft Flow. Also Sheep.
Azure Functions are a great new addition to the Azure stack that allow us to repeatedly automate tasks in a cheap and efficient manner. In this session we will go into what Azure Functions are, what features and functionality and the different ways of applying them in real-world scenarios.

From Code to the Monkeys: Continuous Delivery at NetflixDianne Marsh
At Netflix, we continue to improve upon our continuous delivery process. We thrive in a hybrid environment, where every developer is able to deploy code, and with that freedom comes the responsibility for ensuring that our customers are not negatively impacted. We have constructed Open Source tools toward a Continuous Delivery solution. In this presentation, from QConSF 2013, you will learn about our tool chain so that you can determine which make sense in your environment.
Wilko Nienhaus - continuous delivery release the right thing, done right, at ...DevConFu
Want to know how to release software better? Heard about Continuous Delivery before, but didn't know where to start?
Continuous Delivery is a strategy for improving the software delivery process, through various development practices and a strong focus on automation. Come and find out what value Continuous Delivery brings to agile development teams and how you can release high quality software more often. There will be a practical demo too, showing some of the tooling and mindset that makes it possible.
Evolve or Die! How many times havethey told you, „You still coding in that?“. Come to this session to discover the infamous land of legacy ColdFusion applications, their why and existence motivations. We will then discover how to finally evolve them and take them to the wonderful land of Modern ColdFusion. Come and be inspired to kill the legacy monsters that have haunted you for far too long. We will deliver you once and for all of these inhumane beasts, so you can be proud of writing kick-ass applications with kick-ass tools in ColdFusion. Evolve or Die!
Make It Cooler: Using Decentralized Version Controlindiver
A commonly used version control system in the ColdFusion community is Subversion -- a centralized system that relies on being connected to a central server. The next generation version control systems are “decentralized”, in that version control tasks do not rely on a central server.
Decentralized version control systems are more efficient and offer a more practical way of software development.
In this session, Indy takes you through the considerations in moving from Subversion to Git, a decentralized version control system. You also get to understand the pros and cons of each and hear of the practical experience of migrating projects to decentralized version control.
Version control is often used in conjunction with a testing framework and continuous integration. To complete the picture, Indy walks you through how to integrate Git with a testing framework, MXUnit, and a continuous integration server, Hudson.

Ellisha Heppner, Grant Management Lead, presented an update on APNIC Foundation to the PNG DNS Forum held from 6 to 10 May, 2024 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
2. Agenda
• Quick intro to Magine
• Camilo who???
• Intro to Jenkins evolution at Magine
• What benefits we see on the current platform
• Demo!!!
• Questions and discussion
But feel free to interrupt and ask for questions
or clarifications at any time
4. Camilo
@camiloribeiro
camilo@camiloribeiro.com
• Brazilian, Software Engineer and Fika enthusiast
• Started breaking systems in 2005
• Today tries to keep them from breaking in first place
• Worked as tester, developer and Infra/Ops
• Uses Jenkins since Hudson times
• Automation freak
• Before Magine, worked at ThoughtWorks and Klarna
6. How it was before
• Copy from previous job
• Needed jenkins person on the team
• Usually needed Infra/Ops support
• Kept old habits and bad design from job to job
• Not automated at all
8. How it got better
• All automated with delivery-pipeline plugin
• Tons of groovy code (we found out it to be a problem)
• No need for jenkins “specialist” on team, but highly
dependent on infra/ops
• Hard to customize while reusing (just as complex as
coding)
• Several more jobs created (one job/step)
• Drive-model off devops mentality
10. How the pipeline is now
1. Single file is added to any repository/branch on
the organisation
2. A new pipeline line is created on that brach
3. Works :)
11. Benefits of the pipeline now
• Highly flexible
• Super easy to reuse in a Team Level
• Credentials can be used without knowing them
• Enforces ownership of pipelines by the teams
• No dependency on Infra/Ops for anything*
• Fully automated
13. How the Jenkins is now
• Both Master and Agentes are created by Ansible Scripts and
provisioned with packer on AWS
• They have all needed libs and docker installed
• Master starts the day with zero instances and uses autoscaling
groups to increase capacity depending on demand
• On idle the agentes are turned off to save money
• Jenkins / Github organisation integration provides easy access to
code and integration with PR and events
• AMI Access to Master and Agents
• Use some NFSs to keep caches shared on agents (ex: sbt cache)
