How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary
texts?By Nafees gulfraz
The task
 The ancillary task seemed like a relatively straight forward task, the task
required us to create a album cover (including the inside) and a
magazine advert. To achieve the best out come myself and Danielle
my group member, decided to take on the biggest roles for this task. I
decided to create the magazine advert, Danielle decided to create
the outside of the album cover and left me to do the inside. The reason
why me and Danielle decided to take the bigger roles is because, I
study Graphic design at A level and Danielle studies Photography, we
both have excellent Adobe Photo Shop knowledge. A lot of graphic
design is needed when creating a magazine article, you need to know;
what fonts to use, logos, layout and etc.
Style of the ancillary task:
 Before we began to create the piece we needed to know the style of our piece and the
Script style. For our video we decided to do an RNB look which was more unique in
comparison to the Hall Of Fame video, we did this by the dress code of both
characters in the music video; wearing leather jacket, puffed up jacket with fur and
rest of clothing black. We also did this by the cutting rate, location and etc.
 We decided to take a picture of the characters in the tunnel and in the same clothing
they were wearing in the video. By taking the picture in the tunnel which was the
same location as the video and in the same clothing as the video the magazine
article had a link with the video. We looked at the script album covers and magazine
adverts to see how they posed for the camera and tried making our characters do
the same type of poses but differently.
Album Cover
 The images were token with a high quality camera to achieve the best finish. For the
background of the album cover Danielle has used a gradient effect starting from the
middle and working its self out. The reason why we chose to take a picture of a Skelton
is because, the Skelton demonstrates just as ones skin may fade but the bones will
always remain. Once you join the hall of fame you may fade but your name will
always remain.
 We have included the same font/logo which we have seen on all The Scripts albums. This
makes it look more professional. The logo is also found on the inside of the album
cover and magazine advert. For both the front and the back, Danielle has used the
rule of third technique for the composition of the Skeletons. The technique aligns the
subject with the points which creates more tension energy and interests in the
composition instead of simply centring the subject. She has also included a list of
they're other songs at the back of the album cover.

 For the inside I decided to include the entrance of the
tunnel as the image. By looking at this image the
audience will know its from our video. I placed the
Scripts' logo towards the top, the logos is also on both
sides of the album cover. I placed a black box with the
opacity turned down, layered on top of this box was
text reading, FEATURING THE NO.1 SINGLE ‘HALL OF
FAME’. I did this because I was linking it to the magazine
advert. I then designed the CD of the album. I decided
to use the image from the ‘Hall of Fame’ video because
that is they're number one single. I also included the
logo which again can be found on the magazine
advert and album cover. I changed the opacity down
of the image, this makes the logo stand out more.

 For the magazine advert to link with the album cover, I have
used the Scripts’ logo. I have placed the logo towards
the bottom centre. Below that I have included the name
of our video ‘Hall of Fame feat. will.i.am’. For the
magazine advert to link with the video, I have taken the
image of the characters in the same location as the
video, also have made the charters wear the same
clothing as they did in the video. I have made the
characters pose to similar poses of the Scripts other
adverts to give it a professional out come. I have kept
the colour theme of the font as same as the album
cover. I have included logos and rating for advertising
purposes towards the bottom. These are placed in a
black box with the opacity turned down.
How the album cover
help to sell the product?
 We have included the Scripts logo, this will
help to sell our product because the
Script are well know artist; with a huge
fan base. By seeing this logo the
audience knows who's the artist of the
album is and whether or not to buy it.
 The back of the album cover has 12 songs,
which will further persuade the audience
to purchase our product, your don’t just
get one of their best songs you get 11
more as well.
 The image of the Skelton catches peoples
attention because of its unique look,
which will attract customers too see what
it is.
How the magazine adverts
helps to sell the product?
 It includes the Scripts’ logo which I've spoken
about in the previous slide. It has the rating
of the music, which is 5 starts; meaning the
album is awesome and perfect, which
further means you can give it to anyone as
a gift because it has gotten 5 stars it must be
good. I have also included ‘OUT NOW’,
which tells the audience its available now to
purchase, it just released. It features the no.1
single ‘SUPERHEROES’, this will attract the
audience who like that song as well as the
audience who like ‘Hall of Fame. Its has two
big brands selling it, which means its for a
big audience not a niche market.
Which magazines would our
advert be in?
Our magazine advert will be in one of the
big branded magazines with big
audience. Example of these type of
magazines are on the left. Vibe, XXL,
Clash and etc are example of these type
of magazines. By including the advert in
these types of magazines, our video will
become more popular because of the
audience size which will increase sales for
our product.
Technological Convergence
 ITunes and other music sellers like amazon, hmv and etc will help to sell
our product. Music channels like kiss, MTV base and etc will also
promote our video which will increase sales in iTunes, amazon and
etc. This is what you call technological convergence when
technological systems evolve towards performing similar tasks.

  • 6. Magazine Advert  For the magazine advert to link with the album cover, I have used the Scripts’ logo. I have placed the logo towards the bottom centre. Below that I have included the name of our video ‘Hall of Fame feat. will.i.am’. For the magazine advert to link with the video, I have taken the image of the characters in the same location as the video, also have made the charters wear the same clothing as they did in the video. I have made the characters pose to similar poses of the Scripts other adverts to give it a professional out come. I have kept the colour theme of the font as same as the album cover. I have included logos and rating for advertising purposes towards the bottom. These are placed in a black box with the opacity turned down.
  • 7. How the album cover help to sell the product?  We have included the Scripts logo, this will help to sell our product because the Script are well know artist; with a huge fan base. By seeing this logo the audience knows who's the artist of the album is and whether or not to buy it.  The back of the album cover has 12 songs, which will further persuade the audience to purchase our product, your don’t just get one of their best songs you get 11 more as well.  The image of the Skelton catches peoples attention because of its unique look, which will attract customers too see what it is.
  • 8. How the magazine adverts helps to sell the product?  It includes the Scripts’ logo which I've spoken about in the previous slide. It has the rating of the music, which is 5 starts; meaning the album is awesome and perfect, which further means you can give it to anyone as a gift because it has gotten 5 stars it must be good. I have also included ‘OUT NOW’, which tells the audience its available now to purchase, it just released. It features the no.1 single ‘SUPERHEROES’, this will attract the audience who like that song as well as the audience who like ‘Hall of Fame. Its has two big brands selling it, which means its for a big audience not a niche market.
  • 9. Which magazines would our advert be in? Our magazine advert will be in one of the big branded magazines with big audience. Example of these type of magazines are on the left. Vibe, XXL, Clash and etc are example of these type of magazines. By including the advert in these types of magazines, our video will become more popular because of the audience size which will increase sales for our product.
  • 10. Technological Convergence  ITunes and other music sellers like amazon, hmv and etc will help to sell our product. Music channels like kiss, MTV base and etc will also promote our video which will increase sales in iTunes, amazon and etc. This is what you call technological convergence when technological systems evolve towards performing similar tasks.
