Question 2 “how effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts?”
Brand recognition A brand can take many forms, including a name, sign, symbol, color combination or slogan. Our brand image that we have used for our media project can be seen in the top right hand corner. We created this as our logo and brand image because it seemed suitable to tie all of our ancillary task, digipack and music video together, because with the narrative of the music video, the whole narrative was based on the main protagonist seeing the error of his ways and starting back from the first scene, hence the track name ‘square 1’ and the logo ‘1’.  For our brand logo and identity we wanted to create a brand image that would straightaway let the audience know which artist they were seeing being portrayed.  We also wanted it to be instantly recognisable and a clear cut logo and brand image so people could see it clearly.  We created this brand identity as it was the one thing that tied all our texts and video together as it was the one aspect that all of our texts had in common : the number and phrase ‘1’.
Digipack brand identity  Our brand logo can be clearly seen on the front cover of our album in the top right hand corner and also on the left inside panel at the bottom left of the panel.  We decided that we had to put our brand logo on our album cover because it would ensure that people would remember the artist through his brand image and as soon as they saw this logo elsewhere they would remember our artist.  The logo 1 here on our digipack fits in with the album name reform and denotateschange, and going back to the original and back to basics.  The way we infused our logo and brand image with the digipack was a brilliant idea that made the digipack even better than it was and it also gave it some meaning and presence throughout all the media texts that we produced.
Magazine advertisement  In our magazine ancillary task  there are infact two brand logos involved in it, one in the top right hand corner but more effectively, the different shaped boxes in the centre of the page that form a number one.  This idea was our inspiration to create the brand identity and logo that we did, as it was during the production of this ancillary task that our group realised that this was one strong thing that all of our pieces that we had produced( ancillary, digipack and music video) all had in common, and basically they all denotated change, reform, simplicity and going back in time to change the artists attitude and personality, which in this magazine advert can be seen through a range of different poses and attitudes, e.g.  Lying down = relaxed Bent over = bossy and controlling Cross legged = patient and calm  These attitudes and poses are then infused with the brand logo and image, which then creates a kind of containment or isolation for change in attitude of the artist and making him see the error of his ways .
Music video  The brand identity of the artist has been carried on into the music video and has been strongly represented throughout the music video.  Just the title of the track ‘square 1’ immediately alerts the audience of the brand image and so they straight away think of the artist and the album cover and magazine advertisement.  The narrative of the music video is also closely linked in with the brand identity and image of the main protagonist because the narrative and plot of the video is that the protagonist (faheem) has personality and attitude problems and doesn't care about anybody, but he bumps into the secondary character which is the artist, and he takes control over the protagonist and makes him see the error of his ways and so helps him change his attitude and go back to how he was before, a normal person.  I think that because the narrative of the music video and also the track title square 1, this gives our coursework project a little bit of speciality as it was no coincidence that all our pieces of work that were produced had a single factor in common, ‘1’.  Throughout the lyrics of the song and the music video the artist keeps referring ‘back to square 1’, and he also thinks himself that something's not right , ‘ its not straight everything ain’t cool’. Because our brand image and identity for the artist is so deeply rooted into all our pieces that we produced, there was no better logo to create other than the simple ‘1’ logo which we could say reinforces the whole project and because of this strong brand image and logo, it gives our coursework that final edge which brings all the strings together and ties them within each other.

  • 1. Question 2 “how effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary texts?”
  • 2. Brand recognition A brand can take many forms, including a name, sign, symbol, color combination or slogan. Our brand image that we have used for our media project can be seen in the top right hand corner. We created this as our logo and brand image because it seemed suitable to tie all of our ancillary task, digipack and music video together, because with the narrative of the music video, the whole narrative was based on the main protagonist seeing the error of his ways and starting back from the first scene, hence the track name ‘square 1’ and the logo ‘1’. For our brand logo and identity we wanted to create a brand image that would straightaway let the audience know which artist they were seeing being portrayed. We also wanted it to be instantly recognisable and a clear cut logo and brand image so people could see it clearly. We created this brand identity as it was the one thing that tied all our texts and video together as it was the one aspect that all of our texts had in common : the number and phrase ‘1’.
  • 3. Digipack brand identity Our brand logo can be clearly seen on the front cover of our album in the top right hand corner and also on the left inside panel at the bottom left of the panel. We decided that we had to put our brand logo on our album cover because it would ensure that people would remember the artist through his brand image and as soon as they saw this logo elsewhere they would remember our artist. The logo 1 here on our digipack fits in with the album name reform and denotateschange, and going back to the original and back to basics. The way we infused our logo and brand image with the digipack was a brilliant idea that made the digipack even better than it was and it also gave it some meaning and presence throughout all the media texts that we produced.
  • 4. Magazine advertisement In our magazine ancillary task there are infact two brand logos involved in it, one in the top right hand corner but more effectively, the different shaped boxes in the centre of the page that form a number one. This idea was our inspiration to create the brand identity and logo that we did, as it was during the production of this ancillary task that our group realised that this was one strong thing that all of our pieces that we had produced( ancillary, digipack and music video) all had in common, and basically they all denotated change, reform, simplicity and going back in time to change the artists attitude and personality, which in this magazine advert can be seen through a range of different poses and attitudes, e.g. Lying down = relaxed Bent over = bossy and controlling Cross legged = patient and calm These attitudes and poses are then infused with the brand logo and image, which then creates a kind of containment or isolation for change in attitude of the artist and making him see the error of his ways .
  • 5. Music video The brand identity of the artist has been carried on into the music video and has been strongly represented throughout the music video. Just the title of the track ‘square 1’ immediately alerts the audience of the brand image and so they straight away think of the artist and the album cover and magazine advertisement. The narrative of the music video is also closely linked in with the brand identity and image of the main protagonist because the narrative and plot of the video is that the protagonist (faheem) has personality and attitude problems and doesn't care about anybody, but he bumps into the secondary character which is the artist, and he takes control over the protagonist and makes him see the error of his ways and so helps him change his attitude and go back to how he was before, a normal person. I think that because the narrative of the music video and also the track title square 1, this gives our coursework project a little bit of speciality as it was no coincidence that all our pieces of work that were produced had a single factor in common, ‘1’. Throughout the lyrics of the song and the music video the artist keeps referring ‘back to square 1’, and he also thinks himself that something's not right , ‘ its not straight everything ain’t cool’. Because our brand image and identity for the artist is so deeply rooted into all our pieces that we produced, there was no better logo to create other than the simple ‘1’ logo which we could say reinforces the whole project and because of this strong brand image and logo, it gives our coursework that final edge which brings all the strings together and ties them within each other.
