How Does Your Media Represent Particular Social
Groups?
Gender
• The gender within my magazine is predominately male and this is to reflect the rap / hip hop industry
which is typically more associated with males rather than females, especially in rap. The artists below
show that I have mainly used male artists and this is also due to the fact that my target audience is young
males. The clothing I have used throughout my magazines is also typically what you would expect of young
males, skinny jeans, snapbacks etc.
Content
• The content in my magazine is another way that I have represented particular social groups. The content in
my magazine talks about someone who had nothing and then became famous, this represents a lower
class of people and shows how it is possible to work up in the music industry. My magazine is aimed
towards hip hop and pop artists so the content inside my magazine reflects topics about artists they
should be interested in.
Age
• As I have previously said the targeted audience for my magazine is young aged males aged from around 16
– 26. To reflect age in my magazine the artists and pictures used include young people that are aged
within the age range of my targeted audience. Since the age of my target audience starts at 16 and this is
the beginning of becoming an adult I have used more explicit language on some pages as shown in the
example below. The colour scheme and font throughout my magazine has also been used due to the age
of my magazine being young males, this means that I have used a professional yet simple font that stands
out.

  • 1. How Does Your Media Represent Particular Social Groups?
  • 2. Gender • The gender within my magazine is predominately male and this is to reflect the rap / hip hop industry which is typically more associated with males rather than females, especially in rap. The artists below show that I have mainly used male artists and this is also due to the fact that my target audience is young males. The clothing I have used throughout my magazines is also typically what you would expect of young males, skinny jeans, snapbacks etc.
  • 3. Content • The content in my magazine is another way that I have represented particular social groups. The content in my magazine talks about someone who had nothing and then became famous, this represents a lower class of people and shows how it is possible to work up in the music industry. My magazine is aimed towards hip hop and pop artists so the content inside my magazine reflects topics about artists they should be interested in.
  • 4. Age • As I have previously said the targeted audience for my magazine is young aged males aged from around 16 – 26. To reflect age in my magazine the artists and pictures used include young people that are aged within the age range of my targeted audience. Since the age of my target audience starts at 16 and this is the beginning of becoming an adult I have used more explicit language on some pages as shown in the example below. The colour scheme and font throughout my magazine has also been used due to the age of my magazine being young males, this means that I have used a professional yet simple font that stands out.
