How Did You
Attract/Address Your
Audience?
By Myles Head
As can be seen in prior questions and my
research I looked towards magazines that
addressed the audience I was aiming for (15-22
year old males). I looked to see what their
headlines were, and what kind of content they
provided for their audience.
By looking at their main image, pug splash and
sell lines it is easy to find what the audience look
for in a magazine.
After looking at a few front covers from
the brand Q it is easy to see a trend
forming of what the audience like:
• Male artists/bands
• Festival information
• Album/singles information
On top of this I also conducted my own
research by handing out questionnaires.
From that I gathered a lot of information
that I could use when creating the
magazine:
• I found that the majority of the target
audience uses Spotify and other
streaming software. This suggest that
my audience are Technophiles.
• I also found that they the most eye
catching thing on a front cover should
be the main image.
Taking the feedback I used this to create
my front cover.
When working on my double page spread I attempted to give a
“actions speak louder than words” approach. I titled the article
“looking back at yesterday” and I wanted to reflect this in the
picture, so I had my model Alex Clarke first wear modern
clothing. I made him pull a pose that had him “looking back”
over his shoulder. I felt this reflected the article well.
Finally my contents page was the
easiest to address the targeted
audience from. I was able to do this
first by using the logo’s of Twitter,
Facebook and Spotify, this helped
address the Technophiles.
Next I used things like Demos to
attract the audience as I have found
that audience like free items, however
during the creation process I found the
futility of this as why would you have
a physical demo when you can just
listen to it on something like Spotify.
I included things like winning Concert
tickets and planning concerts. I also
included a “Charts” section as one of
the briefs I set myself earlier in the
project was to appeal to the reader
who wants to be “kept up-to-date.”

I was able to do this first by using the logo’s of Twitter, Facebook and Spotify, this helped address the Technophiles. Next I used things like Demos to attract the audience as I have found that audience like free items, however during the creation process I found the futility of this as why would you have a physical demo when you can just listen to it on something like Spotify. I included things like winning Concert tickets and planning concerts. I also included a “Charts” section as one of the briefs I set myself earlier in the project was to appeal to the reader who wants to be “kept up-to-date.”
