HOW DOES YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT
PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUPS?
Tara Pang
Stereotypes Covered face-
Could forewarn the crime being taken out,
general ideology/ stereotype of this group of
people would be this as they look as if they
have more power/ authority. Also, the covered
face may connote a characters personality. For
example, a dark full, threatening person.
Black clothing-
Black is associated with power,
elegance, formality, death, evil, and
mystery
Black is a mysterious color associated
with fear and the unknown. It usually has
a negative connotation as black denotes
strength and authority; it is considered
to be a very formal, elegant, and
prestigious.
Male character, which is who generally carries out a heist- links to
the connotations shown throughout of a crime genre opening
sequence.
This character is a male and fits in with the teens section of age,
which also relates to the characters within my opening sequence.
This shows a low social class, and means they come from a
middle-classed family background, but have developed less.
Society may feel intimidated by these specific characters due to
the clothes they wear, the explicit language they use, and the
way they act in an environment.
Weapons portray a crime genre based opening
sequence due to the fact they are a part of crime and
are used in things such as heists, as a form or
protection, as well as a tool. These are carried around to
feel safer, or to get out in case of emergency to harass,
or threaten someone coming in their way. This follows
the correct connotations of a gang member.
Hoods are up, showing
less skin and a more
unknown identity.The
ideology of this group of
people would be that
their identity id hidden
due to the fact many
crimes are committed,
in which they will then
be harder to find if they
don’t get caught.
Surrounding are quiet and suspicious- general
stereotype for an area in which crime is taking
place. Also, this type of environment is also
where crime based objects would be found,
such as needles, and drugs. This demonstrates
an urban area, fitting in with an urban tribe,
attracting this specific tribe. Also, a crime
based environment would consist of lower
classed people, however we challenged this as
within our location, this was an area of middle
class/ higher class.
Above is two images of my characters which star in my opening sequence. These images portray negativity and link to the typical
stereotypes of a gang member at the age of 16 with a lower class. The fact they are wearing black hoodies, and Harry is wearing a
scarf across his face, this demonstrates and forewarns of crime, as they are trying to hide themselves as much as possible. The
background within both characters shots, is slightly blurred, and small in terms of objects. This draws more attention to the
characters faces, whilst drawing small amounts of attention to the creepy background.
