3. What is Counselling?
Counselling is the process in which a client and counselor sit down and use
an allocated amount of time to discuss about the clients stressful or
emotional feelings.
It is the act of helping the client see clearly through a certain problem which
enables the client to focus on their feelings with a goal of facilitating
positive change.
It is a relationship of trust between the counselor and the client, the
counselor will inform the client regarding the policy of confidentiality
initially and through sessions of counseling problems will be addressed with
a goal of facilitating positive change.

4. Counselling and psychotherapy
• Psychotherapy and counselling are very similar but not exactly the
same.
• Counselling is a helping approach that highlights the emotional and
intellectual experience of a client.
• Psychotherapy is based on the psychodynamic approach- it is based on
the client recalling earlier experiences ad exploring how such
experiences affect their current problem.

5. How is counselling related to mental health?
• People seek counseling for many different things.
• Counseling is for mental illness as well as for specific life stresses,
such as a toxic workplace with a bullying boss.
• Some mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression can be cured at
an early stage with the help of counselling
• The main purpose of counselling is to reverse the effects of poor
mental health issues people experience.
