How Crucial a Performance Appraisal Practice Inside the Self-organizing Team?...Scrum Day Bandung
In traditional team structure, the software development team manager does the hiring, firing, promoting, and distributing bonus through individual performance appraisal. How about in a full self-organizing team context? How can the team decide those actions? Does the team need to do this self-performance appraisal? If the team need that, then who should be involved? Does the result need to be transparent? Who will make the final decision? etc.
In this talk, I will share how Titansoft did it. What were the problems we faced? How did our people react to these? What will be our next improvement on this topic? How did we know that we are ready for these actions?
In this quality assurance training, you will learn Agile. Topics covered in this session are:
• Agile Approach
• What does the Agile Manifesto Mean?
• 12 Principles of Agile
• Central: Incremental and Iterative Development
• Agile Methods
• Scrum Lifecycle
• Agile Methods – Scrum
• Scrum Values

An Agile mindset believes that diverse teams with complementary skills are best equipped to thrive in today’s business environments.
Many organizations, working with Agile methodologies, talk about changing mindsets. I know from extensive experience that Agile principles and practices by themselves will not lead to this kind of transformation. A real Agile transformation is about not just doing Agile, but being Agile.
‘Follow Agile’ mindset will only help us get into the water but ‘Being Agile’ mindset will help us swim in the current. Most Agile implementations fail and their practitioners cannot tell why. Managers jump onto the Agile bandwagon, and quickly discover that the change runs much deeper and wider than they’d been told. Worse yet, people decide for or against Agile without understanding it properly. It does not have to be this way. This will be an interactive workshop leading toward the Agility.

Enterprise Agile Coaching - Professional Agile Coaching #3Cprime
“Agile coach” is a term that is thrown around pretty loosely these days. But what exactly is an agile coach? How do they differ from the more tactical roles, like ScrumMaster? And how do organizations find the agile coaches that are right for them?
In the final session of our “Professional Agile Coaching” series, we’ll examine how organizations can build an Enterprise Agile Coaching strategy. We’ll look at:
• When to use an external versus internal coach
• How to choose a coach with the abilities your team/organization needs
• The differences between team and enterprise agile coaching
• Creating a communication plan with your agile coach
• Developing an internal agile coaching organization
This session will help organizations make the best use of both internal and external coaches in order to ultimately build the deep internal skills and knowledge necessary for a successful agile transformation.

Scrummaster Needed Desperately at LAST Conf 2016 in Melbourne, AustraliaBernd Schiffer
There is a lot of reluctance within organisations to place ScrumMasters, let alone to spend money to hire them. Surely this role can be done by one of the developers, right? After all, it’s only a minor role, isn’t it? Far from it! The ScrumMaster is a full-time role. Without it, who can take care of the agile process on behalf of a busy Scrum team?
One way to help teams and management understand the value of the ScrumMaster’s role is to show them the volume and importance of tasks a ScrumMaster can fulfil, and the consequences of what happens if nobody takes care of these tasks. This session not only presents the 42 tasks of a ScrumMaster’s role but will clearly show that every Scrum team needs a ScrumMaster.

A Very Large Enterprise Agile Transformation: Lessons Learned at SalesforceTechWell
When the agile consultants leave, how do you ensure that the enterprise agile transformation sticks, evolves, and grows throughout the organization? What challenges will you face? What support must be in place to address the challenges? Like software products, the real cost of an agile transformation occurs after the initial rollout. Salesforce.com has sustained an enterprise agile transformation for more than seven years. Mike Register shares the major challenges Salesforce faced and how they addressed them―challenges that include scaling coaching within a very large enterprise (230 teams and growing rapidly) and effectively emphasizing the foundation principles behind the practices. Mike describes what has worked and not worked during their agile journey. He enumerates the primary support structures that need to be in place to support long term enterprise agile transformation. Mike also explores the cultural and leadership aspects necessary to support large scale agile adoption that sticks.

Services-Oriented Architecture (SOA) provides principles for designing software applications as suites of independently deployable services with a bare minimum of centralized management of these services. Benefits of SOA include the ability to learn/combine/grow/deliver these services to please customers, anticipating failures and handling change.
If your organization struggles to deliver fast across multiple teams, fails to anticipate failure or handle rapid change, the 14 principles behind Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) applied to organizations offer a solution. We call this Service Oriented Teams (SOT).
In this session we will learn the benefits of modeling your organization in Services Oriented Teams (SOT). This includes improved information flow, ability to expose internal functionality, organizational flexibility, service re-use, lower development and management costs, configuration flexibility. We will do this by applying SOA principles and methods to Agile teams in an all-hands-on-deck workshop, using LEGO®’s as team modeling tools, and SOA methods as teams’ interfaces.
Learning Outcomes:
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn:
- an introduction to Services Oriented Architecture and how applying this to organizational design helps to promote high performing, learning and highly effective teams
- how SOTs operate as self-orchestrated ecosystems of teams that are, in fact, Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS)
the benefits of modeling organizational structure to influence the architectural direction of your product (Conway’s law)
- why SOA principles are as relevant for teams as they are for software architecture
- how to design organizations to maximize flow of product - with fewer handoffs and better communication
- why change management is no longer needed with teams’ ability to adapt “baked in” to the organization
- how to define smart team interfaces to accelerate independent delivery
- how SOT teams can configure/reconfigure so that other teams are not impacted
- how to build teams to promote knowledge, knowledge reuse, and growth
- how to focus on the bare minimum of centralized management of SOT.
- how investing, nurturing, developing high performing teams is mandatory
- when standard patterns for org design should be broken to remove bottlenecks
- the benefit of avoiding Conway law silos by organizing teams in service oriented teams responsible for development and delivery

Many executives feel agile is something those techies do behind closed doors. This is both a misunderstanding and a major risk to achieving a real shift and impact. In this session we will talk about business agility as an existential capability in the 21st century and how lean/agile process/structure/culture achieve it. Even non-executives will learn language that will help them break the glass ceiling by getting support from those at the top.
Agile From the Top Down: Executives & Leadership Living Agile by Jon StahlLeanDog
I believe that executives must practice what they preach. If they want teams to be transparent and agile, they need to practice themselves and lead by example. This talk will share some Agile & Lean techniques, applied in a new way, to help organizations understand their constraints so they can transparently carry forward their journey to becoming Agile. “Seeing the Whole” includes customers, projects, applications, people, leadership, financials and Standard Work. We will propose creating a BVR (Big (I mean big) Visual Room), refactoring the PMO and suggest some practices to help support this journey. Executives are challenged to lead by example and be transparent. - Jon Stahl

What needs to be true? Patterns of engineering agilityAndy Norton
What practices help us to scale in a sustainable way for the people behind the process? What capabilities do we need to be intentional about, and what techniques can we leverage? - what needs to be true?
Organizations have been adopting agile at an ever increasing rate. These transformations typically involve bringing a horde of consultants, sending a bunch of people to agile certification classes and then followed with up with a lot of rigor around agile principles, values, and mindsets.
While this process can be successful they are could be so much more by looking at the entire process of developing and delivering software - specifically product thinking and technical practices (DevOps) .
In this presentation we will look at how all of these things work together to take your agility to the next level. It will cover what happens if you only adopt some these practices and walk you through how you can bring these ideas to your organization.
Normalizing agile and lean product development and aimRussell Pannone
The what, why, and how of agile and lean product (system-software) development and delivery is not one persons vision alone; to become reality it needs to be a "shared" vision through negotiation and compromise between individuals, the team and the organization.
The following is a set of norms for your agile and lean product (system-software) development teams to rally around and evolve.
AWS re:Invent 2016: Lift and Evolve – Saving Money in the Cloud is Easy, Maki...Amazon Web Services
Every enterprise knows by now that it can save money by simply lifting and shifting workloads to the cloud, but many are missing the larger opportunity to also make money by moving. While quick costs savings are good for the bottom line, they do little to move the top line numbers. To achieve both savings and earnings, corporate thinking about technologies must change in order to enable faster processes leveraged enterprise-wide. In this session we will explore multiple customer success stories where the customers have evolved from leveraging basic compute and storage products (EC2 and S3) to integrating new services into operations by leveraging Lambda, DynamoDB, CodeDeploy, etc. Once this is achieved, enterprises are enabled to manage and deploy code rapidly in a programmatic and elastic secure network, ensuring governance and security standards across the globe. We will look at the migration process trusted by hundreds of clients as well as how to cope with the process and people components that are so important to enable agility, while focusing heavily on the technology. The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) and 2nd Watch story will dive deep into the technology that allows TCCC to manage hundreds of AWS Accounts, hundreds of workloads, thousands of instances, and hundreds of business partners around the globe. TCCC’s Configuration Management System has Puppet at the core and relies on over a dozen core and emerging AWS products across accounts, availability zones and regions. This complex and globally-available system ensures all of TCCC’s workloads in AWS meet corporate policies but also allows for rapid scale of both consumer and enterprise workloads. Session sponsored by 2nd Watch.

Session "Comparing Ways to Scale Agile" at the Agile Product and Project Manager Meetup in Melbourne, Australia.
These days organisations are looking for support to scale their Agile environment. There’s a difference between having one Agile team on its own, or to have several Agile teams providing value to the customer and interacting with each other.
This session will give an overview and comparison of all the different Agile scaling approaches out there, i.e.:
* Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
* Evidence-Based Management (EBMgt)
* Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD)
* Enterprise Transition Framework (ETF)
* Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS)
* ScALeD Agile Lean Development

Be a survivor in transition process from BA chronicle to product mastery - Ar...Scrum Day Bandung
According to Versionone annual state of agile report (2017), 58% of organizations that are respondents use Scrum as a framework for developing software. The popularity of scrum is increasingly growing as time goes on. In practice, when an organization adopts scrum as their framework, there are several adjustments to the roles that occur. And, one of the most common adjustments that occur to fill in the product owner roles at the time of Scrum adoption usually comes from a business analyst.
That is why, journey transitioning roles from Business Analyst to Product Owner became very interesting to discuss. Many cases occur in the transition field, the role is only labeling. Changes occur not comprehensively, of course, this will have implications for the results of adopting scrum to be sub-optimal.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

Exploring Innovations in Data Repository Solutions - Insights from the U.S. G...Globus
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has made substantial investments in meeting evolving scientific, technical, and policy driven demands on storing, managing, and delivering data. As these demands continue to grow in complexity and scale, the USGS must continue to explore innovative solutions to improve its management, curation, sharing, delivering, and preservation approaches for large-scale research data. Supporting these needs, the USGS has partnered with the University of Chicago-Globus to research and develop advanced repository components and workflows leveraging its current investment in Globus. The primary outcome of this partnership includes the development of a prototype enterprise repository, driven by USGS Data Release requirements, through exploration and implementation of the entire suite of the Globus platform offerings, including Globus Flow, Globus Auth, Globus Transfer, and Globus Search. This presentation will provide insights into this research partnership, introduce the unique requirements and challenges being addressed and provide relevant project progress.
First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

48. Two Movements, One Goal
Agile and DevOps are the primary means by which organiza9ons are driving these changes. They share much in common: faster delivery cycles, smaller increments (or

different things. Agile emphasizes team interac9ons, culture, and values, while DevOps emphasizes delivery pipelines and flow. But, Agile is also concerned with
