The document discusses the facts and fallacies regarding hobo spiders. While hobo spiders were originally thought to be highly aggressive and their bites toxic, studies have shown this is not entirely accurate. Hobo spiders are typically less than two inches in diameter and create funnel-shaped webs, but they are not necessarily aggressive unless protecting an egg sac and their venom has only been proven to cause tissue necrosis in rabbits, not humans. The document aims to clarify misconceptions about hobo spiders and identify their key characteristics for proper identification.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
2. HOBO SPIDERS
The hobo spiders (scientific name Tegenaria agrestis)
belongs to the genus of funnel web spiders. They are often
confused with the Australian funnel web spiders.
This species was first discovered by in 1802 by naturalist
C.A. Walkenaer in Western Europe. They generally avoid
human settlements because of competition with other
spiders, such as the much larger Giant Domestic Spider.
Let us have a look at the facts and fallacies regarding this
aggressive spider
3. Fallacies Facts
Aggressiveness Hobo Spiders are
aggressive and will
attack unprovoked
Although known as The
Aggressive House
Spider, they generally
do not bite unless
forced to protect
themselves. If a hobo
spider is protecting an
egg sac, it may become
aggressive if it
perceives the egg sac
as being threatened
Web Construction All spiders who create
funnel shaped webs are
Hobos.
Not all spiders which
has funnel-shaped
webs are Hobo Spiders.
4. Fallacies Facts
Toxicity The bite of the Hobo
Spider can kill a rabbit
and cause serious
impact on a human.
Based on toxicology
studies done in the US
involving rabbits, the
bite of the Hobo Spider
can cause necrotizing
lesions. However, the
venom is not enough to
kill a rabbit, much more
a grown man.
Severity of the Bite A bite from the Hobo
Spider can cause tissue
death or necrosis.
The tissue necrosis has
been proven on the
case of Hobo Spider
bites for rabbits, but
supporting data on bites
inflicted on humans
have inconclusive data
on the actual severity of
the bite.
5. Fallacies Facts
Size Hobo Spiders can grow
up the size of the palm
of a grown man.
Hobo Spiders are
typically less than two
inches in diameter
(including the legs).
Habitat and Range Hobo Spiders can be
found in almost every
part of the world
The Hobos are
originally from western
Europe and has come
to the US via shipping
crates. Their habitat in
the US is in the Pacific
North West
6. HOW TO IDENTIFY HOBO SPIDERS
Spiders vary in appearance. So their identification is
difficult and can only be done by arachnologist.
However, the following characteristics can help in
identification of hobo spiders:
Hobo spiders lack the coloured bands found on
many spiders of the Agelenidae family where the leg
joints meet.
The abdomen has chevron (V-shaped) patterns
down the middle, with the chevrons pointing towards
the head.
Hobo spiders have a light stripe running down the
middle of the sternum
