4. Human Immunodeficiency Virus
HIV Basics:
• A virus that attacks a persons immune systems
• People can get HIV through anal or vaginal sex
• Or by sharing needles and drug infection equipments with person
who has HIV
• Can be pass by pregnant woman during her pregnancy, childbirth or
later breast feeding.
5. To prevent getting HIV
• Take medicine called PrEP, ( if you are at high risk)
• Always wear condom or clean needles.
• Or choose not to have sex or inject drugs
6. PrEP – “ Pre-exposure Prophylaxis ”
• A medicine that can prevent HIV
• PrEP is for people who are HIV-negative and at risk
of getting HIV
• Is highly effective for preventing HIV through sex or
injection drug use
• PrEP does not protect against other sexually
transmitted diseases. Only condoms protect against
STDs
7. HIV Testing
• Ages 13 to 64 should get tested for HIV at least once in
their lifetime.
• If you are high risk factors get tested more often
• If you continue to inject drugs and share needles or
other infection equipments.
• Sexually active gay or bisexual should get tested every 3
to 6 months
8. HIV Prevention
• Get tested or treated for other STDs
• Choose other sexual activities with little to no risk on
getting HIV such as oral sex.
Oral sex – can transmit STDs such as chlamydia,
Gonorrhea, Syphilis.
• Always inject clean needles or drug injection equipment
• If a sex partner has HIV encourage them to take HIV
medicine.
9. Living with HIV
• No cure but can be controlled with treatment
• If diagnosed start HIV treatment right away
• Take the medicine as prescribed the amount of HIV in
your blood. Viral load can become low that test cant
detect it is called “ Undetectable “
• If pregnant having undetectable viral load can greatly
reduce the chance of passing HIV to your baby.
11. What does HIV have to do with my job? Can
I get HIV at work?
- HIV transmission is only possible when a
person has direct contact with blood, semen,
vaginal fluid or breastfeeding.
12. Can I get HIV from someone dishes? What
about using the same stapler or copy
machine?
-cannot get HIV from casual contact, sharing
bathroom, handshakes, sneezing or
coughing or using same office equipment of
the person with HIV.
13. How should I treat someone with HIV?
-should be treated with the same respect as
someone who doesn’t have HIV. The
personal medical information is private and
are cannot be discriminate in the workplace.
15. HIV and AIDS act of 2019
Establish – policies , programs to prevent
spread of HIV
Adopt – a multi-sectoral approach by
ensuring that the center of the process are
the government.

Ensure – access to Aids and HIV related services by
eliminating the climate stigma and discrimination
that surrounds the person living with
Extended Scope of Education – to eradicate
conditions that aggravates the spread of HIV which
include poverty, gender inequality, marginalization,
and ignorance.
17. Sec. 29: HIV testing
If the person is fifteen (15) to below
eighteen (18) years of age, consent to
voluntary HIV testing shall be obtained from
the child without the need of consent from a
parent or guardian.
