What is the process for Higher studies in abroad ?
IELTS is mainly the British version of this test. Because of this, some of the questions in this test may include British English, which
differs slightly from American English. IELTS is separated into four different sections – reading, listening, speaking and writing.
IELTS
Reading
The reading section is 60 minutes long and requires you to answer 40 different questions about various texts that may come
from magazines, academic journals, newspapers or novels.
Listening
The listening portion is shorter than the TOEFL listening section at 30 minutes long, yet still requires you to listen to lectures
or conversations and answer questions about what you just heard. You may have to be able to understand British, Australian
or Canadian accents in addition to American.
Speaking
The speaking portion differs greatly from the TOEFL speaking section since you will complete it in front of a
real person, and will last approximately 11-14 minutes. This portion is a lot more conversational, and may
be more intimidating than speaking into a microphone.
Writing
This section of the IELTS accepts British spellings of English words, which can be beneficial to those who are
more comfortable with British English. This section is 60 minutes long and requires you to write on two
different topics at a length of 150-250 words.

IELTS Question Type
TOEFL
TOEFL test is divided into four different sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. It is primarily the American version of this test.
Reading
Lasting 60-80 minutes and consisting of 36-56 questions, the reading portion of the TOEFL exam requires you to read 3-4 passages from a specific text and then
answer questions about the text. These texts are usually not very complicated and don’t require knowledge of very difficult vocabulary words.
Listening
Lasting 60-90 minutes and consisting of 34-51 questions, the listening portion of the exam requires you to listen to anything from classroom lectures to
casual conversations. Once listening to the audio, you must answer questions about what you just heard. The conversations are spoken in a standard
American accent.
Speaking
The speaking portion of the test lasts 20 minutes and you must speak about six different topics. These topics may include information from previous
sections, or may require you to speak about an opinion you have on a familiar topic. During this section, you’ll speak into a microphone which will record
your responses.
TOEFL iBT® Test Questions
Reading Section
Directions: The Reading section measures your ability to understand academic
passages written in English. You will read one passage and answer questions about
it. In the actual TOEFL iB T® test, you would have 20 minutes to read the passage
and answer the questions. Test takers with disabilities can request a time extension.
Meteorite Impact and Dinosaur Extinction
There is increasing evidence that the impacts of meteorites have had important effects on Earth,
particularly in the field of biological evolution. Such impacts continue to pose a natural hazard to
life on Earth. Twice in the twentieth century, large meteorite objects are known to have collided
with Earth.
5
If an impact is large enough, it can disturb the environment of the entire Earth and cause an
ecological catastrophe. The best-documented such impact took place 65 million years ago at the
end of the Cretaceous period of geological history. This break in Earth’s history is marked by a
mass extinction, when as many as half the species on the planet
10 became extinct. While there are a dozen or more mass extinctions in the geological record,
the Cretaceous mass extinction has always intrigued paleontologists because it marks the end
of the age of the dinosaurs. For tens of millions of years, those great creatures had flourished.
Then, suddenly, they disappeared.
15 The body that impacted Earth at the end of the Cretaceous period was a meteorite with a mass
of more than a trillion tons and a diameter of at least 10 kilometers. Scientists first identified
this impact in 1980 from the worldwide layer of sediment deposited from the dust cloud that
enveloped the planet after the impact. This sediment layer is enriched in the rare metal iridium
and other elements that are relatively abundant in a meteorite but
20 very rare in the crust of Earth. Even diluted by the terrestrial material excavated from the crater,
this component of meteorites is easily identified. By 1990 geologists had located the impact site
itself in the Yucatán region of Mexico. The crater, now deeply buried in sediment, was
originally about 200 kilometers in diameter.
25 This impact released an enormous amount of energy, excavating a crater about twice as large
as the lunar crater Tycho. The explosion lifted about 100 trillion tons of dust into the
atmosphere, as can be determined by measuring the thickness of the sediment layer formed

when this dust settled to the surface. Such a quantity of material would have blocked the
sunlight completely from reaching the surface, plunging Earth into a period
30of cold and darkness that lasted at least several months. The explosion is also calculated to
have produced vast quantities of nitric acid and melted rock that sprayed out over much of
Earth, starting widespread fires that must have consumed most terrestrial forests and
grassland. Presumably, those environmental disasters could have been responsible for the
mass extinction, including the death of the dinosaurs.
35 Several other mass extinctions in the geological record have been tentatively identified with
large impacts, but none is so dramatic as the Cretaceous event. But even without such
specific documentation, it is clear that impacts of this size do occur and that their results
can be catastrophic. What is a catastrophe for one group of living things, however,
40may create opportunities for another group. Following each mass extinction, there is a
sudden evolutionary burst as new species develop to fill the ecological niches opened by
the event.
Impacts by meteorites represent one mechanism that could cause global catastrophes and
45seriously influence the evolution of life all over the planet. According to some estimates,
the majority of all extinctions of species may be due to such impacts. Such a perspective
fundamentally changes our view of biological evolution. The standard criterion for the
survival of a species is its success in competing with other species and adapting to slowly
changing environments. Yet an equally important criterion is the ability of a species to
50survive random global ecological catastrophes due to impacts.
Earth is a target in a cosmic shooting gallery, subject to random violent events that were
unsuspected a few decades ago. In 1991 the United States Congress asked NASA to
investigate the hazard posed today by large impacts on Earth. The group conducting the
55study concluded from a detailed analysis that impacts from meteorites can indeed be
hazardous. Although there is always some risk that a large impact could occur, careful
study shows that this risk is quite small.
1. The word “pose” on line 2 is closest in meaning to
a. claim
b. model
c. assume
2. In paragraph 2, why does the author include the information that dinosaurs had
flourished for tens of millions of years and then suddenly disappeared?
a. To support the claim that the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous
is the best-documented of the dozen or so mass extinctions in the
geological record
b. To explain why as many as half of the species on Earth at the time are
believed to have become extinct at the end of the Cretaceous
c. To explain why paleontologists have always been intrigued by the mass
extinction at the end of the Cretaceous
d. To provide evidence that an impact can be large enough to disturb the
environment of the entire planet and cause an ecological disaster
3. Which of the following can be inferred from paragraph 3 about the location of the
meteorite impact in Mexico?
a. The location of the impact site in Mexico was kept secret by geologists
from 1980 to 1990.
b. It was a well-known fact that the impact had occurred in the Yucatán
region.
c. Geologists knew that there had been an impact before they knew where it
had occurred.
d. The Yucatán region was chosen by geologists as the most probable impact
site because of its climate.
4. According to paragraph 3, how did scientists determine that a large meteorite had
impacted Earth?
a. They discovered a large crater in the Yucatán region of Mexico.
b. They found a unique layer of sediment worldwide.
c. They were alerted by archaeologists who had been excavating in the
Yucatán region.
d. They located a meteorite with a mass of over a trillion tons.
TOEFL question
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for
most Graduate Schools in the United States.Prospective graduate students seeking admission into most
fields (except business administration) are required to take the GRE test. It is a computer based test.
The current GRE general test is composed of verbal, quantitative and analytical writing sections.
Please note that GRE subject tests are no longer offered in Bangladesh.
GRE
The GRE General Test features question types that closely reflect
the kind of thinking you'll do in graduate or business school.
•Verbal Reasoning — Measures your ability to analyze and
evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from
it, analyze relationships among component parts of sentences and
recognize relationships among words and concepts.
•Quantitative Reasoning — Measures problem-solving ability
using basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data
analysis.
•Analytical Writing — Measures critical thinking and analytical
writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate and support
complex ideas clearly and effectively.

What score do I need on the TOEFL to be admitted?
Each college or university sets its own TOEFL/IELTS score requirements, so consult each school’s admissions
requirements. Many schools require an iBT TOEFL score of 80 or a CBT TOEFL score of 213. In Bangladesh, the
internet-based or iBT TOEFL is offered at several institutions. You must enroll for the TOEFL test in advance as
space is limited.
SAT I (Reasoning Test) and SAT II (Subject Test)
These exams are for undergraduate applicants. The SAT I tests general academic ability and
educational background. SAT II subject tests are often required for financial aid applicants, specific
academic majors, and those applying to highly competitive schools.
How much money do I need to study in the U.S. for one year?
The amount of money you need depends on which school you chose to attend. Tuition for
one year can range from $10,000 to $30,000.
Some of the most expensive universities cost as much as $40,000 per year. You will also
need $6,000-$12,000 to coverliving expenses.
Expenses will vary greatly based on where in the U.S. your school is.
When you apply for a student visa, your sponsors must submit financial documentation that demonstratestheir
ability to pay fo
the full course of your education, including both tuition and living expenses. Sponsors must have the entire
amount needed for the
first year of education (tuition and living ex-penses) readily available in liquid assets, such as in bank
accounts.For subsequent
years, the sponsor needs to be able to document Income sources from which future tuition and living expenses
willcome, such as
wages from a job.
Who can be your financial sponsor
Requirement of a scholarship
Competition for financial aid is intense, especially at the undergraduate level. Nonetheless, in 2009 outstanding Bangladeshi
students received more than $900,000 in scholarships and financial aid. Private universities are more likely to offer financial aid
for undergraduate study. Often financial aid does not cover the entire cost of tuition and living expense
What is the time to apply for financial aid?
Include your financial aid application in your admission application packet. The deadline for financial aid applications is usually in
January or February (if you are applying for a September admission).
How kind job can get while you am studying in the U.S.?
The terms of American student visas (F-1) only allow you to work in an on-campus job or in an internship approved by the university.Typically,
these jobs will not pay enough to cover tuition, but can help you meet your living
expenses.
How to apply for this loan
1. Set up a student finance online account.
2. Log in and complete the online application.
3. If needed, include details of your household income and get your parents or partner to
support your application.
4. If needed send in proof of. identity

If you can’t apply online, use the form finder to get the forms you needed.
In few situations the loan repayments are cancelled like, if the borrower dies and becamedisabled to work.
It can also be cancelled after a certain period of time, usually 30 years, or when the borrower reaches a certain age.
If you have a disability like, long-term health condition, mental health condition or any specific
learning difficulty. You can apply for: -
Disable student’s allowances.
Access to learning fund.
Disable students
Study in the U.S. without taking TOEFL
Almost all American universities require international students to take an internationally
recognized test of English language. TOEFL is the most broadly recognized test in the
United States. Some schools may accept IELTS scores, but be sure to check the admission
requirements of each university to which you plan to apply.
Where can I study
 There are so many options available to go and study. It also depends
on what subject you are going to study and how much money you
are able to spend.
 USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia are most popular
choices.
 There are also countries like Germany, Finland and Norway where
students get quality international degree.
How can I process my application?
 Students should first select their subject they want to study.
 Then, select which University you want to go.
 Carry out all the research on what university to go
 Ask for support from experienced individuals if you are confused
How to get Visa?
 Visit your chosen country’s relevant websites, Embassy or visa
information centres near you.
 Gather all the information on what documents you require
 Avoid giving any false documents and information
 Get help from individuals or Agents like ‘Go Beyond’ if you are
confused
I don’t have enough financial backup, what should I do?
 Getting a full scholarship would be a great idea. Students with
strong education background and determination can apply for
scholarships.
 Prepare yourself for GRE/GMAT, research and apply for scholarship.
 If you cant get scholarship you might want to try countries where
education is free. Norway, Finland and Germany would be best
choice.
 However, Students will have to bear their living expenses in most
cases.
Can I earn money and pay Tuition fee?
 we would jut say No. If you are a genuine student and want to study
in highly expensive good institution, you should be prepared to
have backup from someone back home.
 Yes it is possible to earn living expenses through working part time
during term time and full time during holidays.
 But, It would be really hard for anyone to keep good results while
working too much to earn money.

How much students goes to abroad for abroad in bangladesh(2000-2013)
Just as the increase in domestic tertiary enrolment reflects an underlying surge in demand over the last ten to 15
years. Just over 7,900 Bangladeshis pursued higher education abroad in the year 2000, but that number had
tripled by 2013.
UNESCO tells us that an estimated 24,112 Bangladeshi students went abroad that year, with a fairly balanced
distribution among major study destinations.
IThe UK was the leading choice among Bangladeshi students in 2013 (4,204, or 17.44% of the total), followed by
the US with 3,664 students (15.20%), Australia with 3,603 (14.94%), Malaysia with 2,003 (8.31%), and Canada with
1,530 students (6.35%). Add Japan and the 1,364 Bangladeshi students that it hosted in 2013.

How to Score good Marks During your Education Abroad
#1 Create A Time Table
This is by far the most important thing to do in order to
organize your studying antics. You should create a time
table keeping in mind the total number of hours you’re
expecting to spend in the lecture halls, university campus,
and out with friends.
#2 Arrange Your Room
How to Score good Marks During your Education Abroad
You will not be able to concentrate on your studies if you live
in a place that is cluttered and disorganized. You should keep
your belongings well organized in the room. The boxes and
suitcases that you do not intend to use often should not take
up the major area within the students room.
How to Score good Marks During your Education Abroad
#3 Understand Instead of Mugging up
When you learn the portions or sit down to
study, you should make sure that you
understand what you’re reading. You should
not mug up portions just because it seem
important from an exam point of view. If you
mug up portions, you might not be able to
recollect the important points if the examiner
twists the questions or provide you with
scenario-based queries.
How to Score good Marks During your Education Abroad
Using mnemonics is also a fantastic way to
learn your portions easily. This will be of
amazing help especially on the days before
your assessments and exams. Split down
the complex portions in your syllabus in
such a way that you can relate to it easily.
#4 Use Mnemonics

  • 6. IELTS is mainly the British version of this test. Because of this, some of the questions in this test may include British English, which differs slightly from American English. IELTS is separated into four different sections – reading, listening, speaking and writing. IELTS Reading The reading section is 60 minutes long and requires you to answer 40 different questions about various texts that may come from magazines, academic journals, newspapers or novels. Listening The listening portion is shorter than the TOEFL listening section at 30 minutes long, yet still requires you to listen to lectures or conversations and answer questions about what you just heard. You may have to be able to understand British, Australian or Canadian accents in addition to American.
  • 7. Speaking The speaking portion differs greatly from the TOEFL speaking section since you will complete it in front of a real person, and will last approximately 11-14 minutes. This portion is a lot more conversational, and may be more intimidating than speaking into a microphone. Writing This section of the IELTS accepts British spellings of English words, which can be beneficial to those who are more comfortable with British English. This section is 60 minutes long and requires you to write on two different topics at a length of 150-250 words.

  • 9. TOEFL TOEFL test is divided into four different sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. It is primarily the American version of this test. Reading Lasting 60-80 minutes and consisting of 36-56 questions, the reading portion of the TOEFL exam requires you to read 3-4 passages from a specific text and then answer questions about the text. These texts are usually not very complicated and don’t require knowledge of very difficult vocabulary words. Listening Lasting 60-90 minutes and consisting of 34-51 questions, the listening portion of the exam requires you to listen to anything from classroom lectures to casual conversations. Once listening to the audio, you must answer questions about what you just heard. The conversations are spoken in a standard American accent. Speaking The speaking portion of the test lasts 20 minutes and you must speak about six different topics. These topics may include information from previous sections, or may require you to speak about an opinion you have on a familiar topic. During this section, you’ll speak into a microphone which will record your responses.
  • 10. TOEFL iBT® Test Questions Reading Section Directions: The Reading section measures your ability to understand academic passages written in English. Meteorite Impact and Dinosaur Extinction There is increasing evidence that the impacts of meteorites have had important effects on Earth, particularly in the field of biological evolution. Such impacts continue to pose a natural hazard to life on Earth. Twice in the twentieth century, large meteorite objects are known to have collided with Earth. 5 If an impact is large enough, it can disturb the environment of the entire Earth and cause an ecological catastrophe. The best-documented such impact took place 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous period of geological history. This break in Earth’s history is marked by a mass extinction, when as many as half the species on the planet 10 became extinct. While there are a dozen or more mass extinctions in the geological record, the Cretaceous mass extinction has always intrigued paleontologists because it marks the end of the age of the dinosaurs. For tens of millions of years, those great creatures had flourished. Then, suddenly, they disappeared. 15 The body that impacted Earth at the end of the Cretaceous period was a meteorite with a mass of more than a trillion tons and a diameter of at least 10 kilometers. Scientists first identified this impact in 1980 from the worldwide layer of sediment deposited from the dust cloud that enveloped the planet after the impact. This sediment layer is enriched in the rare metal iridium and other elements that are relatively abundant in a meteorite but 20 very rare in the crust of Earth. Even diluted by the terrestrial material excavated from the crater, this component of meteorites is easily identified. By 1990 geologists had located the impact site itself in the Yucatán region of Mexico. The crater, now deeply buried in sediment, was originally about 200 kilometers in diameter. 25 This impact released an enormous amount of energy, excavating a crater about twice as large as the lunar crater Tycho. The explosion lifted about 100 trillion tons of dust into the atmosphere, as can be determined by measuring the thickness of the sediment layer formed Copyright © 2015 by Educational Testing Service. All rights reserved. ETS, the ETS logo and TOEFL IBT are registered trademarks of Educational Testing Service (ETS). 31569 when this dust settled to the surface. Such a quantity of material would have blocked the sunlight completely from reaching the surface, plunging Earth into a period 30of cold and darkness that lasted at least several months. The explosion is also calculated to have produced vast quantities of nitric acid and melted rock that sprayed out over much of Earth, starting widespread fires that must have consumed most terrestrial forests and grassland. Presumably, those environmental disasters could have been responsible for the mass extinction, including the death of the dinosaurs. 35 Several other mass extinctions in the geological record have been tentatively identified with large impacts, but none is so dramatic as the Cretaceous event. But even without such specific documentation, it is clear that impacts of this size do occur and that their results can be catastrophic. What is a catastrophe for one group of living things, however, 40may create opportunities for another group. Following each mass extinction, there is a sudden evolutionary burst as new species develop to fill the ecological niches opened by the event. Impacts by meteorites represent one mechanism that could cause global catastrophes and 45seriously influence the evolution of life all over the planet. According to some estimates, the majority of all extinctions of species may be due to such impacts. Such a perspective fundamentally changes our view of biological evolution. The standard criterion for the survival of a species is its success in competing with other species and adapting to slowly changing environments. Yet an equally important criterion is the ability of a species to 50survive random global ecological catastrophes due to impacts. Earth is a target in a cosmic shooting gallery, subject to random violent events that were unsuspected a few decades ago. In 1991 the United States Congress asked NASA to investigate the hazard posed today by large impacts on Earth. The group conducting the 55study concluded from a detailed analysis that impacts from meteorites can indeed be hazardous. Although there is always some risk that a large impact could occur, careful study shows that this risk is quite small. 1. The word “pose” on line 2 is closest in meaning to a. claim b. model c. assume 2. In paragraph 2, why does the author include the information that dinosaurs had flourished for tens of millions of years and then suddenly disappeared? a. To support the claim that the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous is the best-documented of the dozen or so mass extinctions in the geological record b. To explain why as many as half of the species on Earth at the time are believed to have become extinct at the end of the Cretaceous c. To explain why paleontologists have always been intrigued by the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous d. To provide evidence that an impact can be large enough to disturb the environment of the entire planet and cause an ecological disaster 3. Which of the following can be inferred from paragraph 3 about the location of the meteorite impact in Mexico? a. The location of the impact site in Mexico was kept secret by geologists from 1980 to 1990. b. It was a well-known fact that the impact had occurred in the Yucatán region. c. Geologists knew that there had been an impact before they knew where it had occurred. d. The Yucatán region was chosen by geologists as the most probable impact site because of its climate. 4. According to paragraph 3, how did scientists determine that a large meteorite had impacted Earth? a. They discovered a large crater in the Yucatán region of Mexico. b. They found a unique layer of sediment worldwide. c. They were alerted by archaeologists who had been excavating in the Yucatán region. d. They located a meteorite with a mass of over a trillion tons. Just over 7,900 Bangladeshis pursued higher education abroad in the year 2000, but that number had tripled by 2013.
