Gregorio Del Pilar was a Filipino general who fought against Spanish colonial rule and later American occupation of the Philippines. He received his bachelor's degree from Ateneo Municipal de Manila in 1896 and joined the Philippine Revolution against Spain, distinguishing himself as a field commander. After Spain ceded the Philippines to the U.S., Del Pilar continued fighting against American forces as a general under Emilio Aguinaldo. He was killed in the Battle of Tirad Pass in 1899 while delaying American troops to allow Aguinaldo to retreat.
