Desalination and water reuse Norredine GhaffourWANA forum
The document discusses water desalination and reuse as solutions for increasing water supply in the Western Asia and North Africa (WANA) region. It notes that the WANA region has high population growth and water scarcity issues. Desalination and water reuse are presented as options that can provide reliable, secure water supplies independent of climate variations. The market for desalination in the region has grown significantly in recent years and continues to grow. Relevant desalination technologies currently used are described, including challenges around energy use and environmental impacts. The role of renewable energy sources in powering desalination plants is also examined.
Texas Molecular provides underground injection disposal services for liquid industrial wastes at its Deer Park facility. It injects over 60 million gallons of waste annually into two wells permitted by the EPA and TCEQ. The facility offers bulk storage and receives wastes by truck, rail, and containers 24/7. Underground injection is a safe, low-risk method to dispose of large volumes of hard-to-treat wastes according to EPA regulations.

We started Project "PAANI“ (Hindi for water) and researched deeply on the subject. We found that the current water-filtering technologies create 60-70% water wastage and also carry a lot of additional costs like electricity, non-recyclable plastic bodies and filters, branding and marketing costs. They also eliminate the most needed minerals like Magnesium, Sodium and Potassium and don’t fulfil natural hydration needs of body. Causing illnesses.

Electronically powered instruments like ultrasonic and sonic scalers provide advantages over manual scaling including reduced time, improved debris removal, and less operator fatigue. They have been shown to effectively remove plaque, calculus, bacteria, and endotoxins while conserving root surfaces. However, limitations include reduced tactile sensitivity, aerosol production posing infection risks, and interference with cardiac pacemakers in some cases. Recent developments aim to address these limitations and improve effectiveness.

It provides an overview of EcoQuest's 20-year history developing their Radiant Catalytic Ionization technology, which uses ionization, ultraviolet light, and a photocatalytic process to purify air. University testing has shown their technology can reduce particulate matter, mold, bacteria, and viruses on surfaces by up to 99.99%.

Presentazione dei risultati di 20 anni di ricerca sul campo del biologo Sergey Gashchak del Chernobyl Center for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology
Ultrasonic and sonic scalers were introduced in the 1950s as powered alternatives to manual instrumentation for removing supra and subgingival calculus. They use high frequency electrical or air pressure vibrations transmitted through interchangeable tips to remove deposits via mechanisms like cavitation. Studies found hand and powered instrumentation are similarly effective in reducing plaque, calculus, and pathogens and improving periodontal outcomes. While powered instruments provide improved access in furcations and heavy calculus, both techniques are important for periodontal therapy. Precautions are needed with powered instruments to prevent tissue damage or interference with devices like pacemakers.
The document discusses turbidity and turbidimeters. It defines turbidity as the cloudiness of water caused by suspended particles, which can impact water quality. Common causes of turbidity include phytoplankton, sediments from erosion, resuspended sediments, waste discharge, urban runoff and algae growth. The document outlines how turbidity is measured using turbidimeters and the principles behind the measurements. It provides an example specification for the Hach Model 850 turbidimeter. The overall document examines turbidity, its causes and risks, as well as methods for measuring and analyzing turbidity levels.

This document discusses various methods for disposing of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants. It describes common waste disposal techniques like decay in storage, vitrification, geological disposal in deep underground repositories, and reprocessing waste materials. The document concludes that proper disposal of nuclear waste remains a challenge and that most waste is currently stored using steel cylinders or placed in deep geologic formations to isolate it from the biosphere.
The document discusses ultrasonic scalers, including their definition, types, parts, differences from manual scalers, advantages, disadvantages, and tips. Ultrasonic scalers use high-frequency vibrations to remove plaque, calculus, and inflamed tissue from teeth and gums. There are two main types - piezoelectric and magnetostrictive. Key parts include the handpiece, cable, water control, power switch, and tips. Ultrasonic scalers are more efficient than manual scalers at removing calculus, require less space, and reduce treatment time and operator fatigue. However, they require water evacuation and can produce contaminated aerosols. The document also outlines four common types of ultrasonic
This document discusses indoor air quality problems and solutions. It notes that since the 1970s, energy-efficient buildings have reduced ventilation and trapped more pollutants indoors. This has led to issues like sick building syndrome and increased rates of asthma and allergies. Passive technologies like filters and ionizers have limitations in addressing airborne pathogens. The document proposes that active technology using radiant catalytic ionization is more effective by producing oxidizers that purify the air and deactivate mold, bacteria, viruses and other contaminants. University studies showed this technology reduced microbial populations on surfaces by up to 99.97% and improved indoor air quality.
This document discusses various irrigating solutions used during root canal treatment. It begins with a brief history of irrigants, from water and proteolytic enzymes to chelating agents and sodium hypochlorite. The ideal properties of irrigants are listed as well as the goals and role of irrigation. Various classes of irrigants are classified and described in detail, including acids, chelating agents, oxidizing agents, and others. Individual irrigants such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, and citric acid are also discussed in regards to their properties, actions, and effectiveness at tissue dissolution, antibacterial activity, and smear layer removal.
Endodontics is blessed with wide range of irrigants. Biomehcanical peparation of root canal system is not only based on shaping the dentinal walls but also on the biological debridement of the canal and periapical region. Irrigation dynamics is the key behind the every successful root canal procedure.
This document defines key terms related to ecology, including abiotic and biotic factors, producers, consumers, decomposers, niches, food webs, succession, sampling methods, and population estimation techniques. It discusses various abiotic factors like temperature, light availability, and water that influence organisms. Biotic factors include predation, competition, and disease. Sampling methods are described for estimating populations and community characteristics, including quadrat sampling, transects, and capture-mark-recapture for animals.

It describes the parts, power, frequency, tips, and proper use of ultrasonic scalers. Precautions, limitations, and clinical debridement procedures using ultrasonic scalers are also summarized.
This document discusses various types of waste and waste management. It provides definitions and sources of different categories of waste like biomedical waste, radioactive waste, e-waste, and municipal solid waste. It also describes the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle in waste management. Common waste disposal methods like landfills and incineration are explained.
