GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

5. INDOOR POLLUTION - - It DOES Affect You ! EPA TESTED FOR 20 DIFFERENT HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS ●1] 11 CONSISTENTLY FOUND IN ALL HOME LOCATIONS IN 4 STATES ●2] INDOOR EXCEEDED OUTDOOR POLLUTION BY 5 TO 10 TIMES FOR EVERY CHEMICAL, IN EVERY SEASON, IN EVERY CITY. Potential Effects “CAUSED BY” or “AGRAVATED BY” Pollution ! Nervous System Effects Lung Cancer Itchy Eyes Snoring Reproductive Effects Irritability Hyperactivity Dry Throat Cardiovascular Effects AM Cough Sneezing Allergies Respiratory Distress Depression Asthma Nausea Afternoon Slump Blue Moods Lethargy Nose Bleed Forgetfulness Dizziness Headache Uneasy Sleep HOW - - Is all this possible ? *REF: EPA docs - - EPA 402-k-93-007; EPA 402k-95005; EPA 400-r-92-012
16. UV Lights … issue with distance from UV bulb and exposure time
17.
18. Filters & plates become constant source of pollution, high maintenance, cost and have limited effect on VOCs, odors, bacteria, viruses, mold & mildew
19. How is mold, mildew, bacteria, viruses, odors removed on surfaces inside a room?
22. Typical Air Particle Size Distribution Don’t Be Fooled ! It’s the “Small Sizes” < 0.5 um that are Numerous & Dangerous ! 300-400 million/m3 97% Of Weight ( 28+52+11+6= 97%) But not a big health threat ! Most filter mfgs. spec their product on “weight” not “count”. But 98.5 % Of Particle Count is < 0.5 um A big health threat 98.5
23. A PARTICULATE STUDY It Stays Around For A Long time ! Average Size of Human Hair
26. Ozone & Ion Technology Ozone reduces odors and VOC’s including mold, bacteria & virus. Ozone is effective even at low levels Fresh Air technology incorporates 2 forms of Ionization: Needlepoint - 2M ions/cu cm “RF Ionizer Effect” produced by an electromagnetic pulse to excite particles inducing a charge and reducing particles. Ions are charged particles which travel out into the environment, charging particulate in the air, which then attracts oppositely charged particles, allowing them to gain sufficient mass to be filtered or fall to the ground.
33. Germicidal UV (254 nm) Effectiveness is dependent upon distance, intensity and exposure time
34. 254nm UV Activates the Catalyst Photoelectric Effect: The conversion of light to electricity
35. The Catalyst Hydrophilic Coating “Hydrophilic” – means the coating absorbs water vapor (H2O) from the air, creating an abundance of Hydrogen and Oxygen for creation of friendly oxidizers Optimum Humidity is 40-60%
41. AOP formation of “Friendly Oxidizers” These oxidizers are then picked up in the air stream and dispersed throughout the building …ACTIVELY purifying contaminants! OH- O2 - Hydroxyl Radicals 0OH Hydroxides OH- Super Oxides O2- Hydrogen Peroxide H2O2 Ozonide Ions O3- Ozone O3 O3- 0OH H2O2 O3 H2O2 O3- - Broad Spectrum UV Light O2 0OH OH- O3
42.
43. The RCI cell is NOT an ozone generator, (emits ≤ .02 PPM Ozone), in fact can help regulate O3 levels.
44. Provides redundancy of oxidizers which react up to 40x faster than ozone alone & without irritation.
45. AOP reactants remain effective after leaving cell as a “Purifying Plasma”… dispersed throughout the building ACTIVELY purifying contaminants.
58. Significant Comments By Dr James Marsden, Kansas State University who is Recognized as foremost authority in microbial control: 1. “The Chinese government uses RCI & low level ozone(.02 ppm) technology to reduce the risk of SARS in subways and buses.” 2. One of the largest cruise ship/ theme park and hotel chains achieved a 99.9% reduction of the Norwalk virus. This (RCI) technology is now being employed in their hotel rooms, cruise ships, animal care facilities, ice machines and dumpsters.
59. What About Deadly Germs? ●They travel on airborne particles ●They stay alive in the air and on surfaces for long lengths of time indoors, But not outdoors ●Some are becoming resistant to antibiotics
60. GERM HOT ZONES The University of Arizona study identified prime common areas harboring cold and flu-causing germs and the bacteria count per square inch: ● Kitchen sponges and dishcloths -- 7 billion ● Kitchen faucets -- 229,000 ● Office phones -- 25,000 ● Desktops -- 21,000 ● Office toilet seats -- 49
61. Environments most contaminated with body fluids and the percentage of their surfaces that tested positive: ● Daycare -- 46% ● Playgrounds -- 36% ● Bus travel -- 35% ● Gyms -- 28% ● Theatres -- 26% ● Restaurants -- 14% ● Work -- 11% ● Medical offices -- 10%
62. Once you have a baseline…you have the ability to compare BEFORE and AFTER implementation of the RCI Tech.
63.
64.
65. How is RCI Applied? ●Free-Standing Portable Units for up to 3000 sq. ft. ● In-Duct Units for Residential and Commercial Sizing ● Portable Travel Unit for Cars, RVs, Boats and Hotel Rooms, etc. ● Room-size units for Nursing Homes, Small Office Spaces, Studios, etc. ● Commerical/Industrial Units for Specialized Use
69. What you need to know.. Three points to remember about RCI Purification Technology……. 1. The only Air Purification Technology which combines up to five nature based technologies to synergistically clean indoor air like nature cleans air outdoors using: • Two types of Ionization to reduce particles • UV and a Catalyst to create Oxygen & Hydrogen based friendly oxidizers to reduce microbial contaminants (Photo Catalytic Oxidation) • Low-level ozone to reduce odors 2. The only residential Air Purification Technology recognized by the NASA Space Foundation and awarded Certified Space Technology status 3. The only Air Purification with validation testing from multiple universities proving the ability to reduce up to 99.99% of Particulate, Mold, Fungi, Bacteria and Viruses.
