Dissertation on behavioral finance and its impact on portfolio investment dec...Rahmatullah Pashtoon
Extreme volatility has plagued financial markets worldwide since the 2008 Global Crisis. Investor sentiment has been one of the key determinants of market movements. In this context, studying the role played by emotions like fear, greed and anticipation, in shaping up investment decisions seemed important. Behavioral Finance is an evolving field that studies how psychological factors affect decision making under uncertainty. This thesis seeks to find the influence of certain identified behavioral finance concepts (or biases), namely, Overconfidence, Representativeness, Herding, Anchoring, Cognitive Dissonance, Regret Aversion, Gamblers’
Fallacy, and Mental Accounting, on the decision making process of individual investors in the Indian Stock Market. Primary data for analysis was gathered by distributing a structured questionnaire among investors who were categorized as (i) young, and (ii) experienced. Results obtained by analyzing a sample of 74 respondents, out of which 12 admitted to having suffered a loss of at least 50% because of the crisis, revealed that the degree of exposure to the biases separated the behavioral pattern of young and experienced investors.
Gamblers’ Fallacy, Anchoring and Representative and Herding bias were seen to affect the young investors significantly more than experienced investors.
Behavioral finance integrates psychology into traditional finance to explain why people make irrational financial decisions. It studies concepts like representativeness heuristic, loss aversion, fear of regret, herding, anchoring, illusion of control, and prospect theory. Behavioral finance recognizes that investors do not always act rationally as assumed by conventional finance. It provides insights into common cognitive biases and established behaviors that influence investment decisions.

Cybersecurity risks affect all senior executives in an organization. While the CEO may want to delegate cybersecurity to the CTO, effective programs require input from multiple stakeholders. A comprehensive understanding of technical, financial, and regulatory risks is needed to develop an appropriate strategy. Regular communication to the CEO should focus on trends, risks, and major incidents rather than technical details. Quantifying potential financial losses from data breaches can help obtain support for necessary security investments.
Family offices are set to deploy over $30 billion in fresh and reallocated capital to hedge funds in the next 12 months, according to a Barclays study. Specifically, family offices will make $4 billion in fresh investments and reshuffle $29 billion of existing investments, with the capital flowing primarily to long/short equity, event-driven, and global macro strategies. At the same time, an effort by fund-of-funds manager Attalus Capital to transition to single-manager hedge funds has largely failed, with its assets shrinking to just $300 million as clients did not redeploy capital to its new funds.
The SEC is now requiring hedge fund managers to appoint a Chief Information Security Officer to oversee cybersecurity. This has prompted funds to search for candidates to fill this role. Potential candidates include the CTO, CRO, CCO, or outsourcing the work. However, the role requires expertise in technology, risk management, and compliance. Additionally, the person in the role may face personal liability if a breach occurs. As a result, funds are struggling with how to structure the position and provide appropriate resources and support.
The client, a hedge fund with over $21 billion in assets, hired 2Secure Corp to perform a penetration test of their public-facing web application. The tester was able to bypass the password reset mechanism using SQL injection. To address this, 2Secure recommended the client use parameterized queries, double up single quotation marks in user input for SQL queries, and use stored procedures for database access. The client received a detailed report with recommendations to mitigate the findings. In conclusion, the penetration test helped the client improve the security and control of their web application.
A law firm with over 10 branch locations hired a security firm to audit their network security. The audit had 3 phases: discovery of all network devices, creation of network diagrams, and assessment of management access practices, device hardening practices, and network policies. The assessment highlighted any omissions in security settings and adherence to industry standards. A final report was generated that both technical and non-technical stakeholders could understand. The security firm concluded it delivered greater security, visibility and control over the law firm's infrastructure.
The document discusses a case study of an incident response policy created for a software development company. The policy established a process for handling incidents that included documenting events, preserving evidence, creating an alert system, assessing damage, and reviewing responses to update policies. The policy now governs the company's response to issues affecting electronic resources like intrusions, data misuse, and hardware/software failures. Most companies ignore the risk of not having an incident response policy, and the key question is how an organization will react when an incident does occur.
Threats to mobile devices are more prevalent and increasing in scope and complexity. Users of mobile devices desire to take full advantage of the features
available on those devices, but many of the features provide convenience and capability but sacrifice security. This best practices guide outlines steps the users can take to better protect personal devices and information.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
