The National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) is run by the Government of India under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to control six vector-borne diseases: malaria, dengue, lymphatic filariasis, Kala Azar, Japanese Encephalitis, and Chikungunya fever. The program addresses environmental, socioeconomic, and climate risk factors. It was launched in 1977 and divides areas into those with annual parasite incidence over or under 2, implementing different prevention and treatment strategies accordingly. The program also includes the Enhanced Malaria Control Project supported by the World Bank and the use of insecticide-treated bed nets to control vectors and protect individuals.
