Terminologies
O Holism: the idea that whole of the sick person
including their body, mind and way of the life
should be considered when treating them and
not just the symptom of the disease.
O Humanism: a system that thought consider
the solving of human problems with the help
of religious belief it emphasizes that fact the
basic nature of human is good.

O Balance: a situation in which different things
exists in equal , correct or good amount.
O Energy: the ability put effort and enthusiasm
into an activity work etc.
O Healing: the process of returning to normal
function after a period of disease or injury.
Introduction
O The practioners of Alternative system of
medicine(AYUSH) provide the bulk of
medical care to the rural people.
O The government of India has established a
National Institute of Homeopathy in Kolkata.
O A Central Council of Indian Medicine was
established in 1971 to prescribe minimum
standards of education in Indian Medicine.
AYURVEDA
O The Ayurveda is practiced throughout the India
and Siddha system was practiced only in Tamil
speaking area of south India.
O Ayurveda is known as knowledge of life
(Ayur-long, Veda-knowledge), that means this
is knowledge to prolong life.

O Ayurveda is a classical system of health care originating from the vedas
documented around 5000 years ago.
O As per the fundamental basis of Ayurveda, all objects and living bodies are
composed of 5 basic elements called the Pancha Mahabhoothas namely,
O Prithvi---Earth
O Jal-------- Water
O Agni------ Fire
O Vayu------ Air
O Akash---- Sky
O Ayurveda imbibes the humeral theory of Tridosha-
O Vata(air)
O Pitta (Fire)
O Kapha (Water) which are considered as the three phisiological entities in living
beings resposibles for all metabolic functions.

O The mental characters of human beings are
attributable to Satva, Rajas and Tamas which
are the psychological properties of life
collectively term as Triguna.
DIAGNOSIS AND
TREATMENT OF AYURVEDA
O The treatment in Ayurveda is individualized.
O It requires not only the diagnosis of disease to
prescribe medicine but also the Study of various
factors such as age and sex; temperature (prakriti);
sleep, rest and work pattern; diet, metabolic fire
(Agni).
O Treatment include preventive and curative
measures.
O Diagnosis in Ayurveda system is done on the basis
of history taking and examination of Pulse, urine,
feaces, tongue, eyes and sexual examination.
UNANI
O As name indicates Unani systems originated in
Greece.
O The foundation of Unani system was laid by
Hippocrates.
O It was introduced in India by Arabs and
Persians sometimes around the 11th century.
O The specialties of Unani system of medicine on:-
O Rheumatic and Arthritis,
O Jaundice,
O Filariasis,
O Eczema
O Sinusitis and
O Brochial asthma
O For the prevention of disease and promotion of health, the Unani
system advocates six essentials:
O Pure air
O Food and water
O Physical movement and rest
O Sleep and wakefulness and
O Retention of useful materials and evacuation of waste materials
from the body.
SIDDHA
O The siddha system of medicine is one of the
ancient system of medicine in India having its
close bend with Dravidian Culture.
O The term Siddha means achievements and
Siddharth are those who have achieved result
in medicine.
O The basic philosophy of Siddha is that there is
an intimate link between man and enviroment.
DIAGNOSIS AND
TREATMENT OF SIDDHA
O The diagnosis of disease involves identifying
its causes.
O Causative factors are identified by
examination of pulse, eyes, color of body,
tongue, status of digestive system, urine and
study of voice.
YOGA
O Yoga is a science which helps to co-ordinate
body and mind more effectively.
O It promotes mental, physical, social and
spiritual health.
O It also helps in prevention and cure of various
psychosomatic disorders, psychic and physical
disorders.
O Yoga is becoming very popular these days for
stress management.
HOMEOPATHY
O Homeopathy has been in practice for 170 years by
thousands of practioners and there are over a 100
Homeopathy journals world wide.
O Homeopathy is based on the theory of any
substance capable of producing artificial
symptoms on individuals can cure the same
symptoms in a natural disease.
O Dr. Christain Friedrich Samuel Hahnemannm a
German physician, scientifically examined this
phenomenon and codified the fundamental
principles of Homeopathy.
BASIC LAWS, DIAGNOSIS AND
TREATMENT METHODS
O There are four laws or principles.
O The law of Direction of cure:- It states that during
curative process the symptoms disappear in the reverse
order of its appearance.
O The law of Single Remedy:- Homeopathy generally
uses only a single medicine which has a true similarity
of symptoms with that of the remedy.
O The law of minimum dose:- The doses applied are the
minimum possible, just sufficient to correct the diseased
state.
O The theory of Chronic disease:- It states that the most
of the diseases are due to Syphilis and Sycosis in human
beings.
NATUROPATHY
O Naturopathy system is not only therapeutic but also it is a way
of life.
O It is based mainly on the application of simple laws of nature.
O It is reported to be effective in chronic , allergic-autoimmune
and stress disorders.
O The theory of the Naturopathy is based on;
O Simple eating
O Fasting
O Hydro-therapy
O Mud packs, massages
O Under water exercises
O Acupuncture, Acupressure.
CONCLUSION
O AYUSH system of medicine are well acceptable by
community, particularly in rural areas. Theses
medicines are economical, comparatively safe,
efficacious and easily available and can be
prepared from locally available resources. Main
streaming of AYUSH system of medicine and
revitalization of Local Health Tradition is a major
vision of NRHM. The AYUSH systems, especially
Ayurveda and Homeopathy play an important role
in the Health Care Delivery System in Kerala.

  • 2. Terminologies O Holism: the idea that whole of the sick person including their body, mind and way of the life should be considered when treating them and not just the symptom of the disease. O Humanism: a system that thought consider the solving of human problems with the help of religious belief it emphasizes that fact the basic nature of human is good.
  • 3. Cont….. O Balance: a situation in which different things exists in equal , correct or good amount. O Energy: the ability put effort and enthusiasm into an activity work etc. O Healing: the process of returning to normal function after a period of disease or injury.
  • 4. Introduction O The practioners of Alternative system of medicine(AYUSH) provide the bulk of medical care to the rural people. O The government of India has established a National Institute of Homeopathy in Kolkata. O A Central Council of Indian Medicine was established in 1971 to prescribe minimum standards of education in Indian Medicine.
  • 5. AYURVEDA O The Ayurveda is practiced throughout the India and Siddha system was practiced only in Tamil speaking area of south India. O Ayurveda is known as knowledge of life (Ayur-long, Veda-knowledge), that means this is knowledge to prolong life.
  • 6. Cont… O Ayurveda is a classical system of health care originating from the vedas documented around 5000 years ago. O As per the fundamental basis of Ayurveda, all objects and living bodies are composed of 5 basic elements called the Pancha Mahabhoothas namely, O Prithvi---Earth O Jal-------- Water O Agni------ Fire O Vayu------ Air O Akash---- Sky O Ayurveda imbibes the humeral theory of Tridosha- O Vata(air) O Pitta (Fire) O Kapha (Water) which are considered as the three phisiological entities in living beings resposibles for all metabolic functions.
  • 7. Cont….. O The mental characters of human beings are attributable to Satva, Rajas and Tamas which are the psychological properties of life collectively term as Triguna.
  • 8. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF AYURVEDA O The treatment in Ayurveda is individualized. O It requires not only the diagnosis of disease to prescribe medicine but also the Study of various factors such as age and sex; temperature (prakriti); sleep, rest and work pattern; diet, metabolic fire (Agni). O Treatment include preventive and curative measures. O Diagnosis in Ayurveda system is done on the basis of history taking and examination of Pulse, urine, feaces, tongue, eyes and sexual examination.
  • 9. UNANI O As name indicates Unani systems originated in Greece. O The foundation of Unani system was laid by Hippocrates. O It was introduced in India by Arabs and Persians sometimes around the 11th century.
  • 10. O The specialties of Unani system of medicine on:- O Rheumatic and Arthritis, O Jaundice, O Filariasis, O Eczema O Sinusitis and O Brochial asthma O For the prevention of disease and promotion of health, the Unani system advocates six essentials: O Pure air O Food and water O Physical movement and rest O Sleep and wakefulness and O Retention of useful materials and evacuation of waste materials from the body.
  • 11. SIDDHA O The siddha system of medicine is one of the ancient system of medicine in India having its close bend with Dravidian Culture. O The term Siddha means achievements and Siddharth are those who have achieved result in medicine. O The basic philosophy of Siddha is that there is an intimate link between man and enviroment.
  • 12. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF SIDDHA O The diagnosis of disease involves identifying its causes. O Causative factors are identified by examination of pulse, eyes, color of body, tongue, status of digestive system, urine and study of voice.
  • 13. YOGA O Yoga is a science which helps to co-ordinate body and mind more effectively. O It promotes mental, physical, social and spiritual health. O It also helps in prevention and cure of various psychosomatic disorders, psychic and physical disorders. O Yoga is becoming very popular these days for stress management.
  • 14. HOMEOPATHY O Homeopathy has been in practice for 170 years by thousands of practioners and there are over a 100 Homeopathy journals world wide. O Homeopathy is based on the theory of any substance capable of producing artificial symptoms on individuals can cure the same symptoms in a natural disease. O Dr. Christain Friedrich Samuel Hahnemannm a German physician, scientifically examined this phenomenon and codified the fundamental principles of Homeopathy.
  • 15. BASIC LAWS, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT METHODS O There are four laws or principles. O The law of Direction of cure:- It states that during curative process the symptoms disappear in the reverse order of its appearance. O The law of Single Remedy:- Homeopathy generally uses only a single medicine which has a true similarity of symptoms with that of the remedy. O The law of minimum dose:- The doses applied are the minimum possible, just sufficient to correct the diseased state. O The theory of Chronic disease:- It states that the most of the diseases are due to Syphilis and Sycosis in human beings.
  • 16. NATUROPATHY O Naturopathy system is not only therapeutic but also it is a way of life. O It is based mainly on the application of simple laws of nature. O It is reported to be effective in chronic , allergic-autoimmune and stress disorders. O The theory of the Naturopathy is based on; O Simple eating O Fasting O Hydro-therapy O Mud packs, massages O Under water exercises O Acupuncture, Acupressure.
  • 17. CONCLUSION O AYUSH system of medicine are well acceptable by community, particularly in rural areas. Theses medicines are economical, comparatively safe, efficacious and easily available and can be prepared from locally available resources. Main streaming of AYUSH system of medicine and revitalization of Local Health Tradition is a major vision of NRHM. The AYUSH systems, especially Ayurveda and Homeopathy play an important role in the Health Care Delivery System in Kerala.
