Aims of TCOL
● Bring teachers of Bangalore South 3 block
together
– Use ICT for new creative methods of teaching
– Use ICT to get useful teaching-learning materials
– Students learning ICTs
– Learn together as a community
– Support one another and take help
– To bring ideas of STF into school level practices
● Initial HM orientation (June)
– Prioritise Maths and Kannada
Work done so far
● Mathematics
– Block level workshops - 4 workshops conducted so far
– School level work in Domlur and Immadahalli
– Resources for foundation learning + class X
● Kannada, Science, Social Science
– Block level workshops
– School level work in Domlur and Immadahalli
– Begur, Agara will begin Jan 2015
– Resources for foundation learning
● ICT lab
– All schools have minimum 5 working computers
– Students learning in Immadahalli lab, will begin in Begur
● All schools have own website for sharing information, plans
and achievements
Our learnings
● Status of learning of students at entry level (class
8) quite poor
● Bridge programme insufficient
● Need to work with basics with children
● Children at different levels of learning
● Conflict between 'covering syllabus' and 'self
paced learning' / CCE
● Teachers are supporting one another and learning
– Sharing ideas, materials, question papers
– Email with block level and state level teachers
– Whatsapp for quick sharing of information

  • 1. Bangalore South 3 Block Head Teachers – Community of Learning December 2014
  • 2. Aims of TCOL ● Bring teachers of Bangalore South 3 block together – Use ICT for new creative methods of teaching – Use ICT to get useful teaching-learning materials – Students learning ICTs – Learn together as a community – Support one another and take help – To bring ideas of STF into school level practices ● Initial HM orientation (June) – Prioritise Maths and Kannada
  • 3. Work done so far ● Mathematics – Block level workshops - 4 workshops conducted so far – School level work in Domlur and Immadahalli – Resources for foundation learning + class X ● Kannada, Science, Social Science – Block level workshops – School level work in Domlur and Immadahalli – Begur, Agara will begin Jan 2015 – Resources for foundation learning ● ICT lab – All schools have minimum 5 working computers – Students learning in Immadahalli lab, will begin in Begur ● All schools have own website for sharing information, plans and achievements

Our learnings ● Status of learning of students at entry level (class 8) quite poor ● Bridge programme insufficient ● Need to work with basics with children ● Children at different levels of learning ● Conflict between 'covering syllabus' and 'self paced learning' / CCE ● Teachers are supporting one another and learning – Sharing ideas, materials, question papers – Email with block level and state level teachers – Whatsapp for quick sharing of information
  • 5. Plans ● Continue COL for mathematics and Kannada teachers ● School level intensive work ● Block level work – Workshops for teachers, special focus on Mathematics and Kannada – Make all ICT Labs functional / working – Student instruction – Teacher use for creating and sharing resources ● School 'quality improvement plan' for 2015-16

Expectations? ● ICT lab in schools for student and teacher learning ● Strengthen school academic infrastructure for use in teaching learning – Library – Science lab ● Support teachers learning – New resources – New methods ● Identify and address key challenges in school ● Block level community of learners ● Community linkages ● Improve/strengthen teaching-learning processes and institutional capacities
