A comprehensive walkthrough of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The presentation was made for AAA Molybdenum Products, Inc. and it was meant to train employees on the most common hazardous materials used at the company. Disclaimer: most of the information is still pertinent, but updates to the Code always occur. Please make sure you are using the most up-to-date versions of your CFR 49 manual and IATA manual.

• The Scope of this Training Program:
o Introduce “Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49” (a.k.a. 49 CFR)
• How to use Hazardous Materials Table
• Packaging, Labeling, and Marking
• Creating a Bill of Lading for Hazardous Materials Ground Shipment
o Introduce IATA Handbook
• Familiarize with IATA Handbook

4. Testing
• The Hazardous Materials Certification Training Program has
provided you with sufficient knowledge to allow you to
prepare any Hazardous Material or Dangerous Good shipment
• Familiarity and comfort with HazMat shipping can only occur
through practice and experience
• All HazMat employees must go through an adequately
prepared training program in order to be HazMat Certified

5. Testing
• In order to complete the HazMat Training program, each
trained employee must prove proficiency
• Once an employee is trained, Recurrent training must occur at
least every 3 years in order to be proficient in 49 CFR and at
least every 2 year in order to be considered current in IATA
• “Any person who in the course of their employment directly affects hazardous
materials transportation must be trained and tested in General Awareness,
Function Specific, and Safety, in the appropriate regulations and must include
a security component”

6. Testing
• Once the employee has demonstrated adequate proficiency in
training, the employer/trainer must document the training
• AAA Molybdenum’s exposure to corrosive materials is
thankfully limited, however, this training program is meant to
cover all possibilities, to teach understanding, and to provide
the means to be flexible with all Hazardous Materials

• What will you need for testing?
o Internet Access in order access the 49 CFR

o Up-to-date copy of the IATA Manual
o Pen/Pencil and Paper
o After completion, submit all paperwork and answers to the HazMat Training Manager
o Answer all questions

• The Hazardous Materials Training Proctor will provide the
paper test
