Hardware
• The history of computing
hardware covers the
developments from early simple
devices to aid calculation to
modern day computers. Before
the 20th century, most
calculations were done by
humans. Early mechanical tools
to help humans with digital
calculations, like the abacus, were
referred to
as calculating machines or calcula
tors (and other proprietary
names). The machine operator
was called the computer.
Computer Hardware
Computer hardware:
Is the physical components of the computer , refers to the
tangible(things you can touch) components of a computer
system.
Hardware components are furthure
divided into three groups
• Input devices
• Output devices
• System unit
Responsible for
accepting and
processing the data
brought in by the input
devices.
Display information
on a screen,creates
printed copies or
generates sound.
Communicate with a
computer.we can use
input devices to enter
information and issue
commands.
Input Devices
Input Devices
• Keyboard: is a standard input device of most computers
used to type data into the computer.
• Mouse: is a hand-clicked device used for pointing and
moving objects.
• Joystick: is an input device which is commonly used for
computer games.
• Track ball: basically an upside down mouse.
• Light pen: a device to draw write or issue commands when
it touches a specially designed screen.
• Scanner: A scanner allows you to scan
documents, picture,or graphics and view them on the
computer.
• Microphone: used to input sound into a computer.
Output Devices
Output Devices
• Printer: an output device that produces text and graphics
on paper. Inkjet, laser and impact printer are examples.
• Monitor: the monitor is used to provide soft copy output.
• Multimedia projector: is a type of vedio projector for
displaying vedio, images or computer data on a screen or
other flat surface.
• Speaker: play sounds transmitted as electrical signals from
the sound card.
• Headphones: are a pair of small loudspeaker drivers worn
on or around the head over a user’s ear.
• Web cam: is a video camera that feeds or streams an image
or video in real time to or through a computer
network,such as the internet.
