This document provides dos and don'ts for safely using common hand tools like pliers, screwdrivers, and knives. It advises to use the proper tool for each task, keep tools maintained and stored safely when not in use, and avoid unsafe practices like using tools for purposes they were not designed for or playing with tools. Directions are given to illustrate an unsafe tool use scenario and identify true and false statements about tool safety tips. 8. DO'S
• Use pliers to cut hardened wire.
• Use a larger pair of pliers or bolt cutters if needed.
DONT'S
• Do not enlarge the handle length of pliers to gain more grip.
• Do not use pliers as a substitute for a wrench when turning
bolts and nuts. Pliers cannot grip bolts and nuts properly and
might slip.
• Do not use pliers as a hammer on the handle because it will
result in cracks or breaks.

9. DO'S
• Always use screwdriver tip that fits the slot of the screw.
• Use magnetic or screw-holding screwdrivers to fastened in
tight areas.
DONT'S
• Do not use screwdrivers as a pry bar, chisel, and punch stirrer
or scraper.
• Never use screwdrivers with broken handles.
• Never use pliers on a screwdriver for extra control. Only use
wrench or screwdrivers specifically designed to accept them

10. DO'S
• Always use a sharp blade because dull blades need greater
force and thus are more likely to slip.
• If the tool has a retractable blade, retract it instantly after
use, and retract it fully. Likewise, close scissors or snips when
not in use.
• Keep your hand away from the blade of knife because it might
cut your skin.
DONT'S
• Do not use knife to open cans or pry off objects. Blades are
brittle and can slip easily.
• Avoid horseplay with a tool in your hand.

11. • Ensure that you do not carry tools up or down a ladder in a
way that stops you from holding onto the ladder properly.
• Ensure that you are very careful when handing tools to
others. You should do it with care, and not to toss them.
• Ensure that pointed tools are in a toolbox, in a tool pouch or a
tool belt (pointed downwards) or in the hand, pointed away
from the body.
• Ensure that tools are never left lying around and are placed
in the storage when not in use.
