Yoga
Therapy for
Human
Welfare
Empirically it is observed
that bodily ailments upset
the mind. Mental unrest
has its impact on the
body.How the body & mind
are related is still an
unsolved mystery.
Research at Indus valley
revel that Yoga has been practiced
in India from prehistoric times.
Vedas consists of 2 portions viz.
1.Karma kanda (ritual part) &
2.Jnana kanda (knowledge part).
The ritualistic part in Vedas has
no mention of Yoga. Yoga found
place in Upanishads.
Yoga like all other
sciences, combines theory
with practical application.
It is essential to have clear
knowledge of theory to
practice Yoga. Upanishads
teach inseparable
relationship
between Conscious soul and
Divine spirit. All religions
speak of meditation in one form
or other. Wrong practice of
Yoga may harm body & mind.
To start with it is always ideal
to have a master to learn for
better results.
Of the 10 principal Upanishads
considered as very ancient, the
most popular is Kathopanishad
makes specific mention of
Adhyatma Yoga-meditation on the
inner self. It says “firm control of
the senses is Yoga.
Then yogi becomes free from all
vagaries of mind. The yoga can
be acquired and lost.” The first
signs of entering Yoga are
lightness of the body, health,
desirelessness, clear
complexion, sweet voice,
agreeable odour and scantiness
of excretions.
Yoga is for him who is
moderate in food recreation,
works, sleep and wakefulness
Yoga destroys all sorrows. Yogi
gains infinite happiness, which
is beyond senses. Yoga as
taught in the most ancient
scriptures cannot be
undertaken
incorrectly. When the brain ceases
to function due to irreparable loss
of consciousness, physicians
declare this state as brain death.
However life still lingers in the
body, as the heart continue to
supply blood.
The scientific study of
evolution is confined only the
biological aspects, but man is
primarily concerned with the
evolution of mind. Scientists
are unable to know the
nature of relationship
between body and mind.
According to WHO nearly 35%
of the global population is
suffering from mental
degeneration due to the inability
of the mind to cope with the rapid
changes in the external
environment.
Yoga unfolds vast potential
of the human mind for
higher thinking,
sublimation of emotions
and strengthening of will.
Pursuit of excellence and
perfection
in all fields of human
endeavor is facilitated by the
practice of Yoga. Yoga is not
monopoly of any religion,
sect and nation. Yoga is
meant for the welfare of entire
mankind.
