Yoga: Pathway to mind enlightenment and personality enhancementPrabhjotKaur375
This presentation will open up realms of knowledge about various forms of yoga and their health benefits whereby leading to enlightenment of mind and enhancement of personality...
Yoga is a mind and body practice. Various styles of yoga combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. Yoga is an ancient practice that may have originated in India. It involves movement, meditation, and breathing techniques to promote mental and physical well-being.
The tree that bends doesn’t break!
As human beings, it is inevitable that we have our share of ups and downs. Something always pushes us down, throws us off-balance and makes us uneasy. During such moments, it is imperative that we stop, take a step back and observe ourselves objectively to understand how long it takes us to bounce back to normalcy once again. The faster we can disentangle ourselves from events of the past, the faster we begin experiencing freedom in the present.
This is where Yoga comes in, to rescue us from this vicious negative spiral of mental and emotional whirlpools that suck us down into the depths of despair. Yoga may be understood as a conscious and evolutionary path that enables us to break free from our conditioned patterns (samskara) that take us nowhere.

Abstract
Asana practice is often seen as the main element of yoga although it is only one part of all system. Yoga class may give the toned body but as always, optimal health is just as much about what is on the inside.
To function optimally in life, we have to take care not just of the physical body but also internal functioning and mental and spiritual state. All is deeply connected between each other.
Introduction
The word “Sattvic,” or “Sattvikam”, appears in many Hindu texts on Yoga, and is translated to “in the mode of goodness” in English. In the Srimad Bhagavad-gita’s Chapter 17, Text 7, it states that each food is placed into one of three categories, which coincide with the three modes of material nature: goodness (Sattva), passion (Rajas), and darkness (Tamas). In the following three texts (verses) it states the following: “Foods in the mode of goodness increase the duration of life, purify one's existence and give strength, health, happiness and satisfaction. Such nourishing foods are sweet, juicy, fattening, and palatable. Foods that are too bitter, too sour, salty, pungent, dry and hot, are liked by people in the modes of passion. Such foods cause pain, distress, and disease. Food cooked more than three hours before being eaten, which is tasteless, stale, putrid, decomposed and unclean, is food liked by people in the mode of ignorance.”
What is Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient oriental discipline that emerged from mystical and philosophical concepts. Etymologically, yoga means to “add”, “join”, “unite” or “attach” (Sanskrit yoga) where the body (anga), mind (chitta), emotions and the soul (atma or atman).
Yoga is unification of mind through awareness during the practice, body through asanas and spirit through meditation and breath.
Yoga is a journey inward for self-discovery to bring harmony in all areas of life through body-mind connection. All Yogis can gain many benefits of yoga on and off the mat. Yoga is much more than twisting and bending body…
Definition of Yoga
Sage Patanjali defined Yoga as “To still the movement of the mind is Yoga”.
Patanjali Yoga Sutras define the eight limbs of Raja Yoga as:
1. Yamas: Guidelines for external discipline
2. Niyamas: Guidelines (duties) for internaldiscipline
3. Asanas: The practice of physical postures
4. Pranayama: The practice of breathing techniques to control prana (the vital force)

You will be surprised at how many health benefits Yoga has to offer. From offering relief from stress and weight management to improving your overall health, this ancient practice can help you live an ideal life.
The word yoga is regularly deciphered as "association" or a technique for discipline from the Sanskrit word "yuj" (to burden or tie). A male expert is known as a yogi, a female specialist, a yogini.
Practice of Yoga helps in getting better focus of mind. Meditation, being part of Yoga, teaches you how to focus better and achieve more from any activity. Dharana, which means narrowed focus on a subject by restricting Chitta (mind) is one of the 8 limbs of Ashtangayoga. It teaches you to get rid of all other thoughts from the mind and focus on the target. People have benefited enormously in terms of focus of mind by doing meditation (Dhyana) and Dharana throughout all ages.

89. MANAGE FOOD & WATER
IN YOUR DIET TO KEEP HEALTHY
• Take 2-4 glasses of water in empty stomach in morning. Do relaxed abdomen breathing. It will help to
remove the stuck wastes which usually adhere to intestinal walls and prevent absorption and also
cause fermentation & Flatulence thereafter. Water absorbs fast, circulate fast & evacuate fast in
morning.
• Breakfast should be light because stomach is in rest position & has to work instantaneously.
• Before lunch take a glass of water one hour before meals. It will clean the stomach with fresh gastric
juices & acid ready to receive food.
• Take only 60 ml of water with meals to make a good paste of eaten food to churn in stomach well.
Keep at least one third of stomach empty, only two third of stomach should be filled with meals &
water.
• Do not take water at least 2-3 hours after meals .Because if we drink water full of stomach that will
make difficult in churning of food in stomach, with feeling of heaviness in abdomen & dullness,
lethargic feeling. The food should remain in stomach at least for 2-3 hours. Therefore it is
recommended to take water 2-3 hours after eating food to clean the stomach after the function of
stomach to digest meals is over.
• The water taken just after meal will wipe off the undigested food from stomach towards duodenum,
Which further ferments in intestines to cause flatulence. The digestive juices & acid in stomach will
be diluted which will not be having enough concentration to complete the digestion. Further they will
cause Constipation.
• Evening time is time for intake of fruit. Take a seasonal fruit always because it contains maximum
ingredients in its full active form.
• Again take a glass of water one hour before dinner. Take dinner at 8 pm so that before sleep you can
drink water or milk.
