Experience
LCPL, ENGINEER REGIMENT, BRITISH FORCES - SEPTEMBER 2005 - TO DATE
My trade is a Driver / Operator / Trainer and daily tasks include, manage and maintain the fleet, transporting
objects and / or people. I undertake in house training and conversion courses from civilian vehicles to military
vehicles for all ranks.
My main work experience has been as a driver of various civilian and military / armoured vehicles. The
vehicles include17 Seater mini-bus, UST (Unit Support Tankers), man trucks from 6T - 15T, which include
HIAB / crane & drop load, and MASTIFF 2PE specialist engineer vehicle, Foden Medium Dump Truck 6x6.
As part of the Royal Engineers I am expected to be adaptable and versatile and an all rounder. During my
present tour of Afghanistan my title is driver / commander / instructor. However, this is not exhaustive of my
role. It would not be unusual for me to be helping out with the carpenters, brickies and plant operators.
Given the sensitive nature of my job I am unable to go in to lengthy details.
Working with explosives is also a big part of being in the Royal Engineers. During my last tour of Afghanistan
I was in charge of putting in new drainage ditches and culverts for the FOB’s (forward operating bases). This
role meant that I had to perform explosive digging to make drainage ditches. This was required because of
the bedrock, which we were unable to remove through the use of a JCB etc. I also have experience of using
different kinds of explosives, detonators, and initiators.
LABOURER - MORSONS INTERNATIONAL - JAN 2004 - SEPTEMBER 2005
Working shifts on the London Underground tracks
My duties included snagging work, re-railing, re-sleepering and in general ensuring that all the tracks were
safe. I worked within a team of 3-10 guys depending on the size of the job we had to do. We would have a
meeting prior to any job commencing where we would decide what tools and supplies we needed. This was
essential to ensure that we took everything we needed as we could not return to collect anything. Tools of
the trade included jack hammers and air drills.
Occupational health and safety and timelines were crucial in this position because of the high risk of
electrocution.
WAITER - OCEAN BASKET - MARCH 2003 - SEPTEMBER 2003
In the few months while I waited for my working visa for the UK and various monies to come through, I
worked at Ocean Basket seafood restaurant in Garsfontein South-Africa.
My duties there were nothing outside of the extraordinary for a waiter and therefore require no further
introduction.
PROTECTION OFFICER - SBV SERVICES - OCTOBER 1998 - SEPTEMBER 2003
Delivering, collecting and transporting large amounts of money for all of the South African Banks and the
National Reserve of South-Africa. Other duties included supplying ATM machines.
For the purpose of this role I trained in the use of firearms and protection.
I am unable to provide detailed information on this job due to the sensitive nature of the position.
