CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM
Background of Study
TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms globally, with a
significant impact on the younger generation. TikTok's rise has prompted discussions about
its positive and negative effects on users, particularly on high school students. This study
aims to explore the positive and negative impacts of TikTok on students of BNHS.
Statement of Problem
This study aims to answer the following questions:
1.What are the positive effects of TikTok on the students of BNHS?
2. What are the negative effects of TikTok on the students of BNHS?
3. How does the use of TikTok affect the academic performance of the
students of BNHS?
4. How does the use of TikTok affect the mental health of the students of
BNHS?
5.How does the use of TikTok affect the privacy of the students of BNHS?
Assumption of Problem
This research assumes that TikTok has both positive and
negative effects on the students of BNHS. It also assumes
that the use of TikTok may affect the academic
performance, mental health, and privacy of the students.
Significance of Study
This study is significant as it provides insights into the effects of
TikTok on the youth. It also serves as a basis for creating awareness
and promoting responsible use of social media platforms. Moreover,
this study can contribute to the development of guidelines for the
use of TikTok in schools.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
This research focuses on the students of BNHS who use
TikTok. It aims to gather data on the positive and negative impacts
of TikTok on the academic performance, mental health, and privacy
of the students. However, this study does not include other social
media platforms, and it does not cover the perspectives of teachers,
parents, and other stakeholders.
Defination of Terms
TikTok - a video-sharing app that allows users to create and share short
videos.
BNHS - an acronym for the name of the school where the research is
conducted. (Barangobong National High School)
Academic performance - refers to the students' performance in school-
related activities such as tests, quizzes, and assignments.
Mental health - refers to the state of a person's emotional, psychological,
and social well-being.
Privacy - refers to the ability of individuals to control access to their
personal information.
CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITETURE ABOUT TIKTOK
FOREIGN LITERATURE
United States TikTok (in Chinese: DouYin; formerly known as musical.ly) currently represents
one of the most successful Chinese social media applications in the world. Since its founding in
September 2016, TikTok has seen widespread distribution, in particular, attracting young users to
engage in viewing, creating, and commenting on “LipSync-Videos” on the app. Despite its success
in terms of user numbers, psychological studies aiming at an understanding of TikTok use are
scarce. This narrative review provides a comprehensive overview on the small empirical literature
available thus far. In particular, insights from uses and gratification theory in the realm of TikTok
are highlighted, and we also discuss aspects of the TikTok platform design. Given the many
unexplored research questions related to TikTok use, it is high time to strengthen research efforts
to better understand TikTok use and whether certain aspects of its use result in detrimental
behavioral effects. In light of user characteristics of the TikTok platform, this research is highly
relevant because TikTok users are often adolescents and therefore from a group of potentially
vulnerable individuals.
The associated literature and studies of the current investigation are presented in this part.
Tiktok is one of the various social networking sites that are available nowadays. Tiktok is a
social media network that boasts 800 million active members globally since its introduction in
2016. TikTok’s influence on students has provided them with a platform to entertain its viewers.
According to Dilon’s study (2021), TikTok, like other social media platforms, has its share of
influencers, and the 15-second video format attracts what is known as meme machines.
Influencers who make money off of views, likes, comments, and shares are known as meme
machines. When someone who is influenced by the app is pleased with how viewers react by
commenting or liking the published Tiktok, it is reported. According to Yang (2020), when
viewers “like'' a video on Tiktok, they are expressing their enthusiasm for the content, and if
they leave a remark, they are expressing their desire to connect and enhance one another’s
videos. Meanwhile, Iodice and Papapicco’s study (2021) demonstrates that they are theorizing a
distinct type of social impact, or “fun,” that is characteristic of the social network and the
period. But Fund also observed that negatively, TikTok is highly addictive, and many users,
especially teens, spend hours on it daily and it has become a serious distraction to students.
Simrin (2020) recognized that TikTok is a source of moral entertainment for young people, as
well as a platform for publicity, learning new things, and providing new opportunities for
volunteering and internship for students. On the other hand, she also recognized that TikTok is
designed to be addictive, saying “It’s incredibly easy to fall down the TikTok hole and suddenly
reemerge hours later having lost an entire day.”
Synthesis of the related literature and studies
LOCAL STUDIES

in the world as of November 2018. It has also gained 4th position in the world subsequently at least
CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the method of research used, the respondents of the study, the data gathering instruments
and procedures, validation, statistical treatment of data, Sampling scheme and treatment of data.
The researcher will employ the quantitative method and used descriptive design to determine the impact of
using TikTok in BNHS.This method will use to gather data about varying subjects and is undertaken when the
investigator is after probing or exploring areas where little is known about the research problem. Also to collect ,
analyze and summarize the positive and negative impacts of using TikTok in BNHS.The descriptive quantitative
research design wich is a quantitative research method attempts to collect information for statistical analysis of the
collecting data.To conduct our study we the researcher will apply questionnaire to the student while it's break time or
recess and they will answer our questions by a printed questions.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This data aims to know the extent to which condition can be obtained among these subjects (Formplus. 2021).It
allows the gathering and collection of information and statistical analysis of numerical data to assess the impact of
using TikTok in BNHS students.
Subject of the study and sampling Scheme
The respondents of the study was the Grade-10 that studied at the BNHS S.Y.2022-2023.The researcher will
apply questionnaire into student in a section of BARANGOBONG National highschool about the negative and
positive impact of using TikTok in BNHS.
Data gathering intrument
Once the permit to conduct the study is granter by our dearest panel, a request will be forwarded to the
principal of concerned school for the administration of the survey questionnaire .
The questionnaire will be distributed to the respondents from Grade 10 student of Barangobong National
Highschool.Subsequently, the retrieval of the instrument will do a week after the respondent's answered the
questionnaires.
Collection of data
This study will be conducted on the public school of students in secondary school of BNHS during the School
Year 2022-2023.
The respondents of the study were the 2 out of 26 in public students from secondary school of
Barangobong Villasis Pangasinan who were using TikTok at the BNHS from Grade-10 section area.
Statistical treatment of data
The respondents were selected regardless of the students of
Barangobong National Highschool.
A convenient sample is one that is drawn from a source that is
conveniently accessable the the researcher (Andrade,2020) This
sampling is a technique wherein the researcher relies on his or her own
judgement when choosing members of the population to the participate
of the study.
CHAPTER 4 PRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter present the data gathered, the results of the statistical analysis done
and interpretation of findings. These are presented in tables following the sequence of the
specific research problem regarding the positive and negative effects of using TikTok in
BNHS.
INTRODUCTION
DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS
This study is about the negative and positive impact of using TikTok in BNHS thus
respondents of user are considered very important demographics characteristics in our findings
and are presented under the following.
The student respondents will purposely be chosen because the researchers believe that
through purposive sampling. They can obtain a representative sample by using a text judgement.
Which can also result in saving time.
The respondents of the study it was an equivalent to 29 students. The questionnaire will be
contributed in various student and answer the printed questions.
CHAPTER V
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
