The grizzly bear is a large solitary omnivore found in parts of western North America. On average, grizzly bears stand 6 feet tall and weigh between 200-650 pounds, with lifespans reaching up to 30 years. Their diet consists of plants, fruits, nuts, berries, fish, and small or large mammals. Threatened by hunting and habitat loss, grizzly bears were listed as endangered in 1975 and are now protected in reserves in a few western states. Females typically have one or two cubs after a breeding season occurring in June.
