2. Palawan Bearcat
• Also known as Binturong
• A nocturnal animal that is neither a bear nor a
cat but a species of civet
• Its head and body measures 61 to 96
centimeters in combined length
• Can live up to 20 years
3. Habitat
• Its natural habitat is in trees of forest canopy
in rainforest of South-east asia
• What makes it endemic in Palawan is that the
subspecies Arctictis binturong whitei can only
be found there

• They are omnivorous
• They feed mainly on fruits but they also eat
birds, rodents and such
6. Reproductive Conditions
• The bearcats attain sexual maturity after
about two years.
• Female Binturongs are believed to be capable
of timing the birth of their offspring
• They were born blind and cannot hear and
rely solely on their mother to provide them
with milk.
• Weaned by the time they are 2 months old
and reach their adult size after a year.

• The Binturong’s fur can be used as medicine
• Their musk glands emit an odor reminiscent
of popcorn
• Binturongs are sometimes kept as pets
• They are listed by the IUCN as a endangered
species
