Greek Gods And Goddesses
The gods and goddesses of ancient greece were a big part of their history. Zeus was the reason why
they had the olympics. The olympics are all around the world now. There are many gods and
goddesses that have shaped events and objects we used today.
Zeus was the king of all the gods and goddesses. He was basically the ruler of everything. Zeus
could control the weather, Zeus was very concerned with the way you created guests and strangers.
If you treated them bad then you would make him mad. The symbol for zeus was the thunderbolt.
The spear butt, and the bronze helmet was dedicated to Zeus. When Zeus was a kid his mother kept
him in a cave for most his childhood. His cave was on mount dikte or mount ida in crete. The
olympic games was a festival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was the brother of Zeus. He was known for a bad temper, and was greatly feared because he had
the ability to make earthquakes happen. He was believed to make fresh water come up from the
earth. His symbols were a three prong spear, white horse carriage, and sometimes shown with a fish
and a dolphin. Offerings were made to Poseidon by sailors and fishermen. They hoped by pleasing
the god they would be blessed with calm seas. There was a large and important sanctuary dedicated
to Poseidon at Isthmia near Corinth. The Isthmian Games were dedicated to Poseidon and held
every two years at the god's sanctuary at Isthmia. They were the second most important games in

Greek Mythology: Gods and Goddesses
The ancients Greeks were polytheistic which means they used to worship many gods. In the past,
Greek gods and goddesses used to live at the top of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in
Greece. However, despite their great powers, gods and goddesses were much like humans, and
sometimes they had to come down to hearth to intervene in the affairs of mortals, involving men and
women, enemies, and sometimes lovers.
At the beginning of everything, Heaven and Earth had twelve sons and daughters called the Titans.
The youngest boy, named Cronos took his father's throne by force and married his sister Rhea. As a
result, his father Heaven cursed him: "One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were perfect in form and perfectly happy. They lived from eating the fruit on the trees and
never fell ill or died. However, they started to conspire and causing trouble to Zeus. Zeus–the–
shining melted them down and left only their spirits to watch over the next race of people, the ones
he cast from silver. The race of silver was beautiful and vain. They looked at themselves in the
dewponds and said; "So beautiful! We must be gods!" (McCaughrean14). They never turned their
silver face toward Mount Olympus and, in their pride, they thought the world was theirs.
Zeus buried the race of Silver in the ground and made the race of Bronze instead. They were no
sooner born that they picked up flints and used them for tools. They made axes and spades, and
began industriously to build. "This is better," said Zeus (McCaughrean 14–15). Then they made
swords, spears, arrows, clubs, and left the building to slaughter. By the time their war was finished,
Zeus had to begin all over again. The only thing that was left to him was Iron. The race of Iron
rusted and grew old. They worked and quarreled, loved and died. They worshipped the gods with a
fearful superstition, and bombarded Olympus with their prayers. In fact, they were human
(McCaughrean).
Zeus married his own sister Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy. He had his throne on the
highest top of Mount Olympus and was respected by all Gods and mortals. All the kings claimed
that they were created by

Durga Killing the Buffalo Demon is located in the fourth floor of Rubin Museum that the

made by gilt copper alloy in the 13th century in Nepal, which is about 11.125 inches height, 12.875
inches width and 7.375 inches depths. This magnificent sculpture of Durga is a jewel of Nepalese
art. She is believed to be a Hindu goddess. She has numerous personalities and she can destroy the
oak. Moreover, she has the ability to control the world in order. This sculpture is formed by three
figures. Durga's figure is in the center front with a very open pose. In India, the purpose of art was
never to imitate nature or to recreate reality through illusion while the goal was to produce an
idealized form. As we can see in the image one, Durga has an asymmetrically idealize body. Her
right foot is on a lion as her mount, and her left hand is stepping on Demon–buffalo. Durga

Gods And Goddesses In The Odyssey
Throughout Homer's epic The Odyssey, The gods and goddesses in Olympus think they are better
and more powerful than all mortals and even other gods and goddesses; in Calypso's philippic to
Hermes, she denounces this unfair hierarchy. Calypso has Odysseus trapped on her island in the
hopes of persuading him to be her husband. Of course, the gods come crashing in and tell Calypso
that they will not allow it. Calypso becomes enraged and calls the gods "unrivaled lords of jealousy"
because the more powerful gods are infamous for their liaisons with mortals, such as Zeus breaking
into the mortal woman Denae's prison cell, appearing as a golden shower, and impregnating Danae
(5: 156). However, when Calypso, a mere nymph, engages in a romantic relationship

Gods And Goddesses In The Odyssey
There are many Gods and Goddesses in the Odyssey that helped Odysseus get back home to Ithaca.
Many of these Gods and Goddesses helped Odysseus get home, but some made it harder for him to
get home. There were some who really wanted to help Odysseus get home, but others did not
because he did not obey very well on his way home. In the Odyssey, you can see how much easier it
was for Odysseus to get home when he obeyed, and how much harder it was when he did not obey.
Calypso, Helios and Athena were a few of the heroes that were involved in Odysseus getting back
home, whether it was difficult, or simple.
To begin, Calypso was a sweet Nymph. She was the daughter of the Titan Atlas, and lived on the
island of Ogygia. When Odysseus arrived at her cave, she was ... Show more content on

"Odysseus stopped for water in an area of the island of Sicily that was ruled by the sun god Helios"
(Philip Wilkinson, 73). Helios let Odysseus and his men stay at his palace one night. Helios had
warned them not to eat his cattle or they would be punished.
"Alldeathsare hateful to us, mortal wretches, but famine is the most pitiful, the worst end that a
man can come to." (The Odyssey, 1073). Odysseus fellasleep before his men did, and while he was
sleeping, his men ate Helios' cattle. When Helios was notified by one of his daughters that the men
had eaten his cattle, he told them that they were going to be punished for not obeying Helios' word.
When the crew got back on their boat to finish their journey back home, Zeus threw a lightning bolt
at the boat and destroyed the ship and killed all of the men, except Odysseus.
To finish off, Athena was the Goddess of Wisdom. She was also know as the Goddess of arts and
crafts for her weaving. She turned Arachne into a spider after beating her at a weaving competion.
Athena was the child of Metis and Zeus, and had several siblings. "She is usually shown as a warrior

Movie Reflection In The Movie 'Drai Santoshi Maa'
Movie Reflection
In the film "Jai Santoshi Maa" the goddess Santoshi Maa is depicted in many different forms.
Santoshi Maa is the "goddess of happiness", she has many forms in which she provides hope for the
people. She wears an elegant sari using the gesture of blessing with her hand, and at when she takes
her many different forms she has a very calm demeanor which provides hope for her devotees. This
idea of hope is shown in the movie multiple times, Satyawati, who is a very faithful devotee of
Santoshi Maa, falls in love with Birju who comes from a farming family. The two are able to get
married without any problems but the during this time Parvati, Brahmani, and Lakshmi had noticed
that Santoshi Maa had been becoming more and more popular and they get jealous. As a result of
this they decide that they wanted to torture Sarasvati as she was a big fan of Santoshi Maa. We see
this torment right on the day of the wedding as Satyavati's sister in laws are horrible human beings
who do everything in their power to bring her down. They give similar treatment to Birju as well as
they disrespect him, they feed him left overs and call him useless. This idea of feeding a son of the
family leftover as a sign of disrespect is still prominent in India today, because of the idea that
women are suppose to provide the men of the family with fresh cooked food not leftovers.
Eventually Birju gets fed–up with all this and leaves the house to prove his worth. When leaving the

The Greek Gods And Goddesses
Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some of them
hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through her two–sided role as an
influential women in society and her opposite qualities apparent during acts of mass destruction.
Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother Apollo
(Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by Hera, Zeus 's jealous
primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera,
Zeus took Leto to a floating island shielded from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there
because technically she was not on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60).
Artemis is the huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence 's safety and values virginity highly.
She is also called Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The cypress is her holy tree and
deer are especially holy to her in addition to her passion for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is
characterized as "...lover of the woods and the wild chase over the mountains," (Hamilton 31).
Artemis was a strong female from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to
Olympus by Zeus because of their amazing beauty. On their third birthday, when he pulled them up
to the heavens, he asked Artemis what gifts she would like. She knew exactly what she wanted and
promptly explained her six requests. First she

Essay On Ancient Greek Goddesses
Mythological Goddesses Athena and Aphrodite
Men and woman in Ancient Greece worshipped the Gods and Goddesses. Religion and mythology
was what gave the people of this time hope and purpose, they would pray to the Gods for everyday
needs and looked to them in many ways such as for help in war, health and agricultural. They
represented the civilization in the world. Woman however were viewed as inferior to men and
struggled to exist, considering their limited role in the society there were a group of goddesses who
played a huge part in Greek religion and Mythology. They were the two main Olympian Goddesses,
Athena and Aphrodite. Greek woman lived in a world where there were strict rules pertaining

These two Goddesses were entirely different from each other as well as completely opposite of the
ideal Greek woman. Aphrodite the Greek goddess of sexuality, beauty and fertility is seemed as one
of the most desirable woman in literature. According to Hesoid "she sprang from the foam of the sea
after Crosnus cuts off the genitals of her father Uranus and threw them into the sea. So even at the
early date her bring was touched with elements of mortality and erotiscm". [Bell 54]
Aphrodite seems to be the only goddess with an active sexual life. To try to control her sexual desire
her father Zeus arranged for her to marry one of the the most ugliest and lamiest Gods, Hephaestus.
She had many affairs and many lovers and children with several other Gods , before, during and
after her marriage. A trait you would rarely see encountered by Greek woman. Aphrodite was
desired by nearly all of the gods. She wore a magical girdle that made everyone fall in love with her.
The other goddesses during this time were extremely jealous of

Mythology was created by transmission of oral form into written forms. Poets such as Hesiod,
Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and others are responsible for the creation of mythology. People in
ancient Greece used storytelling to explain the world around them, because these stories included
Gods and Goddesses. Each of these Gods and Goddesses had an unique effect on the world around
them. The people of ancient Greece used sculptures, books, paintings to express how the Gods and
Goddesses made up the world around them. There are many mythological heroes of ancient Greece.

Greek Gods And Goddesses ( Immortals )
Have you ever wondered how many greek gods and goddesses(immortals) there really are or about
how they came to be? It is a fact that there are over 60 of them, but the twelve major ones are called
the olympians. Most people have probably heard of them at some point in time. Not only are there
immortal gods and goddesses, but also there are mortals(half bloods) that became immortal because
of something they did.
The first two immortals were hera and zeus they were also brother and sister.Their mother was rhea
and their father was cronus. Both parents were titans and it is said that cronus "swallowed his
children because he had been told that one of his descendants would dethrone him one day" rhea hid

Them being the twelve olympians, they are the highest of all the other gods and goddesses. That
being said hades, heracles, persephone, asclepius, eros, and hebe are also major gods and goddesses,
but are not included with the twelve. Some believe that the reason for this is because they don 't live
with the olympians for example hades and persephone live in the underworld. The geeks really
thought of everything when they thought of what each god or goddess would rule over, and what
their children would rule over. They must have studied about their gods and goddesses quit a bit in
order to make it this complicated. A few of the major immortals and what they ruled over are,Apollo
god of the Sun, Music, Medicine, Archery, and Prophesy, Artemis goddess of the Hunt, and Moon,
and Hermes god of Travelers, Thieves, Wanderers, Tricksters, and Messengers. Some of the minor
immortals and what they ruled over are, Hecate goddess of Witchcraft, Doorways, and Crossways,
Iris goddess of the rainbow, and Hebe minor goddess of Youth.

Secondary Goddesses In Myth Universes
For the past centuries, many researchers dedicated their time and scholarly work to reveal more
about myth universes and how they developed throughout the history. In the 19th and early 20th
centuries, archeologists and other prehistorians proposed the idea that once there was a Great
Goddess who defined the meaning of the Mother Earth. The Great Goddess was powerful and
fertile: As the time went by and the societies evolved, she gave birth to many secondary goddesses,
and blessed them with her powers. However, instead of possessing all of the Great Goddess'
extraordinary abilities, these secondary goddesses played specialized roles within mythology
universes they belonged in. For example, Greek Goddess Hera owned the role of marriage protector,

The Evil Of Gods And Goddesses
Many years ago, the humans set ablaze the Earth. Destruction was all around their disfigured bodies,
and where life once thrived, it vanished into an abyss. The gods and goddesses were horrified, so
Zeus took charge. He ordered Hephaestus to create a human baby that's blessed with godlike
qualities. The child would seem to be a gift from the heavens, but in reality, she is going to destroy
the world in unforgiving heat. The child's name is Xiuhcoatl.
Zeus kept the child a secret from the rest, and years went by, and not a word was spoken about his
creation.

Within an instant, the god of thunder summons all his strength to produce winds that cause the
building to shake. Lightning flashes across the sky; the energy weaves through the ocean, and leaves
behind streaks. Disoriented, Hades and Poseidon, are forcefully grabbed by their necks and thrown
back to Earth. Zeus, drifts down, and opens his mouth. Yet, there is no sound coming out of him. All
of a sudden, Zeus, the mighty and powerful, Zeus, doesn't seem so powerful anymore. Eventually he
whispers, "I know I have been unfaithful, but this child you speak of must be killed. Hera shouldn't
have heard of this in the first place. She's not very fond of me, anyways. Why must you two make a
ruckus?" Poseidon, offended, shoots back with, "It wasn't us who betrayed our wives, we can't keep
cleaning up your messes. Who is this child anyways? You..." Zeus cuts Poseidon off, "No, you two
don't understand. She isn't half god. She's simply a human... I created her for the mortals,". "I don't
understand––why must she be killed?" Hades asks. Zeus looks up with his eyes that seem to be

nature over humans. This is evident in the Epic of Gilgamesh as the gods and goddesses depicted in
this epic poem demonstrate their powers by interacting with the mortals throughout the narrative.
During the epic, the several gods and goddesses interfered with the events of mankind and made

both wife and sister to Zeus and is regarded as the queen of the Gods. The Greek mythology cast the
goddesses as protectors and stewards of the feminine aspect. They are in control of love, fertility and
the bounties of the Earth. Like their male counterparts, they can possess great wisdom and be prone
to rash decisions.
Hera
Hera was both sister and wife to Zeus, both born to Cronus and Rhea. She was Goddess of women,

Examples Of Gods And Goddesses
This research deals with the dark representation of gods and goddesses in Greek mythology. The
research will explain the qualities and the behaviors of the Greek gods and goddesses by giving
examples of their actions from The Odyssey and Prometheus Bound.
The two major issues which will be discussed, in particular, are: firstly, the injustice of those gods
and goddesses while they are dealing with mortals. Their injustice will be clear through the ways in
which they punish their people. Secondly, the relationships between gods and goddesses in addition
to the affairs that they have had.
This research aims to apply the behaviors of the gods and goddesses on The Odyssey and
Prometheus Bound, and aims to find out the reasons behind why Greeks have represented their gods
and goddesses in this dark image.

Justice indicates equality. It means to treat all people in the same way. It is not to forget someone in
need and remember another one for no serious reason. It is a very hard task to achieve, so God
should be just in order to be a model for his people as Allah always does. But when it comes to the
Greek gods and goddesses, this sense of justice is absent in their deeds, and in contradiction, the
sense of injustice is obvious. It is the first time when I read about the leader of all gods (Zeus) who
forgets one of his people, and when the goddess Athena reminds him of Odysseus, he denies the fact
that he has forgotten him. Ironically, Zeus remembers Odysseus' great deeds, but he forgets that he is

In the first story of Creation (Genesis 1:27), we see how God creates both male and female at the
same time, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and

"...the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of
life; and man became a living soul. Realizing that he needed a helper (Genesis 2:18), God marched
all of the animals past Adam (Genesis 2:19–20) looking for a suitable animal. Finding none suitable,
God created Eve out of one of Adam's ribs. The term "helper" has historically been interpreted as
implying an inferior role for Eve, although some modern interpreters believe that the word can mean
a companion of equal status. "...the Hebrew word translated "helper" is used twenty–one times in the
Old Testament: twenty of these cases refer to help from a superior." In Genesis 2:27, Adam later
asserts his authority over Eve by naming her: "...she shall be called Woman, because she was taken

Hindu Goddess : A Religious Connecter For Hindu Women
The Hindu Goddess: A Religious Connecter for Hindu Women
The concept of the Hindu Goddess has maintained scholar's curiosity for many years. As the Hindu
Goddess is able to take many forms she also gains a variety of interchangeable representations. The
Hindu Goddess is worshiped all across the world as she has developed a kind of feminist
representation that many women are looking for in Religion today. This essay is going to focus on
the concept of the Hindu Goddess and the variety of meaningful attributes she has in Hinduism, as
well as the Important relationship and connectedness between the Hindu Goddess and the Hindu
woman. What connects the Hindu Woman and the Hindu Goddess includes the connection of the
female body, the importance of the Hindu Goddess as a powerful symbol to woman, and the
importance of the female and male relationship.
Beginning with a general background of the Hindu Goddess, most of the facts can come from the
Encyclopedia of Religion. The Hindu Goddess came of interest in Western cultures as of the 1970s
due to the fact that the United States was able to fund Southeastern research (McDermott 2005,

[The] stress on women 's experience and feminist perspectives; and the move from a reliance on
texts and elite viewpoints to an emphasis on local, oral, village contexts where goddesses tend to
thrive" (McDermott 2005, 3907). When finding research, McDermott

The Goddesses Of War In Greek Mythology
Goddesses of War Throughout different types of mythology, there are similarities and differences
between goddesses of war. In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of war. However, in Norse
mythology, the power of war lies in the hands of many different people, including Freya and the
Valkyries. When looking at the aspects of each, there is closeness between the different branches.
Regardless, there are still noticeable differences, which can be exemplified by Athena, Freya, and
the Valkyries. Athena, the goddess of war in Greek mythology, is perhaps one of the most well–

Analysis Of The Great Mother Archetype
After consciousness passes through the uroboric stage, the next archetypal symbol Neumann offers
is that of the Great Mother. Similar to the uroboros, the Great Mother typically enters the mythical
realm as the first sexed being within it. Still possessing the ability to create without a partner, this
figure is often linked to nature, fertility and the unconscious. At this stage, the ego has not fully
established independence from its unconscious source, which is apparent in the sexed son–lovers,
created by the Great Mother to beget more creation unto her world (often at the sacrifice of the male
counterpart).
Diotima's variation of the origin of Love (Eros) demonstrates an interesting embodiment of the

In this way, the nature of Love is hermaphroditic, not in the sense that it hasn't escaped the uroboric

represents. Through its conscious will Love seeks to attain the fullness ardently desired by its
unconscious, willfully ignorant that any beauty or wisdom it holds will slip away the second he
grasps for a second handful. I find this origin not only provocative but also profoundly moving. I
also think it has interesting implications for Neumann's interpretation of the role of the feminine and
masculine within the Uroboros (and the Great Mother as well). Neumann himself says that, "Hunger
and food are the prime movers of mankind" (27). Applying this declaration to Diotima's myth, the
connection to Poverty as the prime mover is more than apparent. It is precisely this emptiness, this
lacking which drives her to join with Resource and create Love, and in this sense, it is she, not the
masculine element who acts as the "initial movement, the procreative thrust" (Neumann 18).
Essentially, Woman is always first, not just in presence, but in action and desire.

Moving on to what was actually assigned, I decided to examine the myth of Adonis and Aphrodite.
Since Neumann specifically mentions the many Greek myths in which beautiful male youths die

Greek Mythology: The Five Goddesses
Introduction
There is such diversity in Greek mythology just like there is in our own world. There are 5 gods and
5 goddesses that have unique characteristics, different traits and many people find them interesting
to learn about. The 5 gods are Poseidon who was lord of the sea, Zeus who was the ruler of the skies
and king of Mount Olympus, Hades who was god of the underworld, Ares who was the god of war
and Apollo who was the god of the sun. The funny thing about Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon is that
they were all brothers. The 5 goddesses are Athena who was goddess of wisdom and war, Aphrodite
who was goddess of love and beauty, Hera who was goddess of marriage and birth, Artemis who
was goddess of the hunt and childbirth and Demeter who was the goddess of the harvest. All these
gods and goddesses were part of what was known as the Olympians. The Olympians were a group
of gods and goddesses that fought together in wars and with mystical creatures. Many of these gods
were related in some way.

He tried to rape her and he was killed. She punished him and then made his hounds eat him alive.
Two festivals in Greece are celebrated in her honor. She armed herself with a bow and arrow. She

Greek Goddesses Essay
The Greek Goddesses
In Greek mythology the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus played a major role in everyday
life. The Greeks respected them and thought of the gods as all mighty.
In Ancient Greece the people honored and believe in the deities. Myths, poems, and epics
tell the stories and beliefs referring to the gods and goddesses. Many literary works
display the power and jobs of the goddesses. The Greek people lived to please the deities
in hope of gaining a better lifestyle. The goddesses of Greece acted as an important part of
Greek mythology ( Hamilton 28–35 ).
Historians placed the goddesses into categories. The first category included the

Athena held the city of
Athens sacred and this city took on her name. The owl symbolizes wisdom and Athena
referred to this as her sacred bird ( Hamilton 29 ). Athena created the olive tree and
therefore holds it sacred and important. The Greeks built a temple called the Parthenon
to honor Athena. With this temple built, the Greeks had somewhere to go to place their
offerings in front of the goddess. Many Greeks thought of Athena as most important of
the goddesses ( Pinset 100 ).
Some Greeks placed high importance on Aphrodite, the goddess of love and
beauty. Aphrodite loved men and most men returned her love while women honored her
for her beauty. The Romans called her Venus but still thought of her the same way the
Greeks did. Even though the daughter of Zeus and Dione, the story of Aphrodite's birth
has many variations. The most commonly told story says that the goddess rose from the
sea foam. Aphrodite held the myrtle tree sacred along with the dove and sometimes swan.
Most commonly written of in poems and myths, Aphrodite has many stories to go along
with her reputation. The Greeks placed the goddess of love in a very important position in
regards to everyday life ( Hamilton 32 ).
Hestia, or Vesta, was also a very important, but less well known deity. Hestia's
brother Zeus gave her the role of goddess of the hearth. Hestia protected the home and
family. The household had a

Greek Gods and Goddesses
There were two types of Olympic Gods: Celestial Deities and Earth Deities. The Celestial Deities
dwelled on Mount Olympus while the Earth Deities resided on, or under, Earth. There were twelve
Olympic Gods; however, because the tales of these gods started out orally, the gods and goddesses
classified as Olympians are not totally clear. Because the Twelve Olympians are not totally clear,
there are a possible fourteen gods and goddesses that could be classified as Olympians. The gods
and goddesses all had their place in Ancient Greece and were either worshipped or hated because of
their responsibilities and talents. The Greek Gods and Goddesses all had a great influence and
importance to Greek culture.

Reasons for Devotion to Hindu Goddesses
Reasons for devotion to Hindu goddesses Hinduism portrays feminine divinity in a more exalted
way than most other religions do. Though Hindu goddesses are usually depicted as consorts, wives
or companions to a Hindu god, cases exist in which they are worshipped independently; Tantrism
for example, where it is believed that women posses more spiritual power than men, thus men can
achieve divinity through union with a woman ("Tantrism"). Most villages reinforce the mother
aspect of goddesses and worship them individually as their protector, regarding them as having
originated in the area and thus being tied to the health and prosperity of the village (Caldwell).
Others who may devote themselves to a goddess might be in order to conquer or ... Show more

Kali then proceeds to kill all the asuras in a frenzied manner, later offering the heads of their leaders
Chanda and Munda to Durga. Her second appearance is in the follow chapter, where she battles
Raktabija, and assures success by sucking all of his blood so he could not reproduce anymore, per
Durga's command, while she slayed him ("Devimahatmya" ch. 7–8). Another myth ties Kali with
Parvati, telling of an army of demons that threatens the safety of the world. Men cannot slay them,
and so Shiva calls for his wife to aid them in battle. Parvati accepts the responsibility, swallowing
the poison stored in Shiva's throat and morphing into Kali. However, she becomes too drunk with
the poison and, after defeating all the demons, threatens to destroy the world herself with her berserk
dance. In an attempt to subdue his wife, Shiva then lays on the floor in front of Kali, who in her
delirious state does not notice his presence and steps on him. Shamed that she had showed such
disgraceful behavior, she bites her tongue in humiliation. The last scene of the above tale is
illustrated in a lot of imagery, and while the tale itself has a lot of variations, many Hindus will
arrive at the same resolution. It is in this perception that many contradictions lie. Another question
rises, "What does Kali's tongue–biting really mean?" Most Hindus will claim that it is to show
shame, which is what the action means in Bengali culture,

Female Goddesses In Hindu Women
On one hand Female goddesses also act as a powerful role models for Hindu women by setting an
example of how the ideal Hindu woman must be. Goddesses such as Devi and Parvati were usually
seen as consorts of the male Gods. These goddesses inspire women to diligently serve their
husbands while still following the dharmas set for them by their caste and society. In a sense, the
Goddesses' beauty, grace, and even charismatic behavior is expected by the married women in the
Hindu society. Some goddesses also show Hindu women to be more strong and take control over
their actions and mistakes. For example, Goddess Durga, is considered to be a very good role model
of Feminist movements in India. It is said that she represents the violent and destructive ... Show

This being said, the goddesses also tend to be overshadowed by the male gods. They are often
shown as passive consorts of the male gods and are therefore often considered to be less important
than the more prominent male deities. This can lead to the assumption that the Indian women must
serve their husbands just as the female deities serve their consorts. The female deities are also not a
part of the Hindu trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) that represent the gods of creation,
preservation and destruction. As the trimurti represents some of the most powerful gods in the Hindu
religion, the fact that none of the female deities are part of it, almost gives off a sense that they are
not as powerful as the male deities. The goddesses also show that the women's destiny is to
sometimes even sacrifice herself for her husband. One big example of this was Sati. Sati, the
daughter of Daksha Prajapati was the married to Lord Shiva against her father's wishes and lived
with the lord on the mountain of Kailasha. Because he did not approve this marriage, Daksha
Prajapati invited every god to his yajna other than Lord Shiva

Belief In Gods And Goddesses
During ancient times the greeks believed in Gods and Goddesses. The ancient Gods were just like
people but they also were super human and had powers. What made them like humans were that
they did fall in love with other Gods and people, they played tricks on each other, and did different
unique things that made them like humans. What made them Gods were that they had powers and
ruled above a cloud palace that was over Mount Olympus. While they ruled and lived there they also
watched over the greek civilians below. Some of the Gods interfered with their lives and did things
that interrupted them as well. Not all Gods were like that. They also helped with their life style,
wars, and many other things that would help them through their life in general. The Gods were not
always obedient. Many of them did unfaithful things to one another and humans as well. Zeus was
one of the Gods that were unfaithful to his wife Hera. He would come down to earth and trick
women turning into animals, or a human to get women to fall in love with him. Zeus was a king of
all the other Gods. Zeus had lighting bolt powers and used them upon any other God that disobeyed
him. He also had two brothers their names were Poseidon and the other was Pluto (but known as

The Goddesses : The Gods
Distinctly, the goddesses designated in this chapter occur in the midst of the earliest pagan deities
indicated in numerous ancient writings; particularly, the ones frequently linked to the land of
Canaan. In fact, several of the goddesses that promoted idolatry and prostitution exist unequivocally
in the King James Version of the Bible, such as Ashtoreth, Diana and Lilith. Although, the word
'prostitute' exists merely once (Lev 19:29), still, prostitution happens to become identified with
various words; such as "whore(s), whoredom(s), harlot(s), pollute or polluted;" (which can mean
prostitute) that encounters being referenced frequently. Intrinsically, the prophets of the Bible
caution against whoring after the other gods and goddesses; whereby, the cult prostitutes developed
among the numerous idols the Israelites lusted after.
In addition, the term 'goddess' takes place only five times in the manuscript; however, there occurs
various terminology used to reference her high existence. The word abomination(s) has several
meanings, but essentially leans toward disgust. Conspicuously, Joseph Campbell in the "Power of
Myth," with Bill Moyers states, "The term for the Canaanite goddess that occurs in the Old
Testament is [abomination]." (The word appears 152 times, with additional variations.) In addition,
from the beginning to the end the Bible's reference on the abomination evokes an unclean
association with someone or something outside their belief in God's holiness.

Empire's Queen of the Night identity is a mystery. She seems more akin to a demoness with her

What Are Greek Gods And Goddesses
The documentary "Gods and Goddesses" introduces and explains various figures of Greek
mythology and the presumed powers they held over the human world. It also provides explanation
of Greek heroes, rituals, and stories that traveled throughout Ancient Greece and other cultures. It's
through the use of interviews with historical experts and Greek artifacts that the documentary
provides a detailed introduction of Greek mythology and the ancient civilization it thrived in.
A notable topic of the documentary, made the clear by experts, was the contrasts of Greek
mythology to the religions of other ancient cultures, which allows viewers to truly get a sense of
how different the gods were from civilization to civilization. As mentioned in the video one of the
most revolutionary aspects of Greek mythology was the depiction of gods and goddesses as humans,

criticizing of Greek gods, which came to be because of the Greeks looked onto the actions and

conclusion that the heroic stories that involve the divinities were like fables to the Greeks, stories

Why Do Goddesses Mirror
The Goddesses' Mirror by David Kinsley, displays goddesses from various distinct cultures. Every
single goddess is known due to unique and special attributes. Many goddesses are associated with
the earth and the fertility linked with the earth. Three of the goddesses focused in this book are from
the Hindu tradition (Durga, Lakshmi, and Sita), while the other two are from the religious tradition
of Mesopotamia and Egypt (Inanna and Isis) respectively. All these goddesses have distinct factors,
but the real questions are; what characteristics make them the goddess and does those who share the
same characteristics also a goddess? This paper will be focusing on the numerous factors that make
a divine feminine, a "Goddess," and how the goddesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not necessarily. There are some goddesses who fall prey to this view of patriarchal culture. There
are pieces of evidence in Kinsley's textbook to support this idea. To begin with, Inanna, who is a
Mesopotamian goddess, a goddess of love, beauty, sex, desire, fertility, and political power. Even
though she has so much power, she is still seen as a submissive character, for example, when she
offered Gilgamesh everything in return for his love, she is insulted for being outspoken, and her
character was questioned. On the other hand, Indian goddesses such as Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, and
Sita are central even in the patriarchal culture. Durga and Kali are even considered to be powerful
and independent than the male deities, and they can easily dominate them (xvii). Hinduism seems to
teach that goddesses are essential and does not necessarily imply sexual equality. Besides, female
power, creativity, and authority in the religious domain do not necessarily suggest a higher female
status. Indeed, sometimes the same text can contain an elevated goddess theology and a low
estimate of women's status. For example, the author of the Devi Bhagavata Purana, a text that
praises the "Great Goddess" above all other deities, and interestingly also despises women

Comparison Of Greek Gods And Goddesses
All throughout history there are many documentations of different cultures and their many gods and
goddesses. Many of these cultures did not have just one god or goddess, they had several. In ancient
Greece there are said to be twelve Olympian Gods and Goddesses that preside in Mount Olympus.
Although there are many different variations and myths, there are the main twelve Olympians: Zeus,
Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Ares, and Hermes.

was given this name so people would not have to say his name out loud for fear that they would die.

the earth. (1) He was married to Persephone, Demeter's daughter. It is said that Hades kidnapped her

  • 1. Greek Gods And Goddesses The gods and goddesses of ancient greece were a big part of their history. Zeus was the reason why they had the olympics. The olympics are all around the world now. There are many gods and goddesses that have shaped events and objects we used today. Zeus was the king of all the gods and goddesses. He was basically the ruler of everything. Zeus could control the weather, Zeus was very concerned with the way you created guests and strangers. If you treated them bad then you would make him mad. The symbol for zeus was the thunderbolt. The spear butt, and the bronze helmet was dedicated to Zeus. When Zeus was a kid his mother kept him in a cave for most his childhood. His cave was on mount dikte or mount ida in crete. His symbols were a three prong spear, white horse carriage, and sometimes shown with a fish and a dolphin. Offerings were made to Poseidon by sailors and fishermen. They hoped by pleasing the god they would be blessed with calm seas. There was a large and important sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon at Isthmia near Corinth. • 3. Greek Mythology : Gods And Goddesses Carine Kessie ENG 2010–29 Van De Water April 21, 2017 Greek Mythology: Gods and Goddesses The ancients Greeks were polytheistic which means they used to worship many gods. In the past, Greek gods and goddesses used to live at the top of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece. However, despite their great powers, gods and goddesses were much like humans, and sometimes they had to come down to hearth to intervene in the affairs of mortals, involving men and women, enemies, and sometimes lovers. At the beginning of everything, Heaven and Earth had twelve sons and daughters called the Titans. The youngest boy, named Cronos took his father's throne by force and married his sister Rhea. As a result, his father Heaven cursed him: "One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were perfect in form and perfectly happy. They lived from eating the fruit on the trees and never fell ill or died. However, they started to conspire and causing trouble to Zeus. Zeus–the– shining melted them down and left only their spirits to watch over the next race of people, the ones he cast from silver. The race of silver was beautiful and vain. They looked at themselves in the dewponds and said; "So beautiful! We must be gods!" (McCaughrean14). They never turned their silver face toward Mount Olympus and, in their pride, they thought the world was theirs. Zeus buried the race of Silver in the ground and made the race of Bronze instead. They were no sooner born that they picked up flints and used them for tools. They made axes and spades, and began industriously to build. "This is better," said Zeus (McCaughrean 14–15). Then they made swords, spears, arrows, clubs, and left the building to slaughter. By the time their war was finished, Zeus had to begin all over again. The only thing that was left to him was Iron. The race of Iron rusted and grew old. They worked and quarreled, loved and died. They worshipped the gods with a fearful superstition, and bombarded Olympus with their prayers. In fact, they were human (McCaughrean). Zeus married his own sister Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy. He had his throne on the highest top of Mount Olympus and was respected by all Gods and mortals. All the kings claimed that they were created by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, she has the ability to control the world in order. This sculpture is formed by three figures. Durga's figure is in the center front with a very open pose. In India, the purpose of art was never to imitate nature or to recreate reality through illusion while the goal was to produce an idealized form. • 7. Gods And Goddesses In The Odyssey Throughout Homer's epic The Odyssey, The gods and goddesses in Olympus think they are better and more powerful than all mortals and even other gods and goddesses; in Calypso's philippic to Hermes, she denounces this unfair hierarchy. Calypso has Odysseus trapped on her island in the hopes of persuading him to be her husband. Of course, the gods come crashing in and tell Calypso that they will not allow it. Calypso becomes enraged and calls the gods "unrivaled lords of jealousy" because the more powerful gods are infamous for their liaisons with mortals, such as Zeus breaking into the mortal woman Denae's prison cell, appearing as a golden shower, and impregnating Danae (5: 156). • 9. Gods And Goddesses In The Odyssey There are many Gods and Goddesses in the Odyssey that helped Odysseus get back home to Ithaca. Many of these Gods and Goddesses helped Odysseus get home, but some made it harder for him to get home. There were some who really wanted to help Odysseus get home, but others did not because he did not obey very well on his way home. In the Odyssey, you can see how much easier it was for Odysseus to get home when he obeyed, and how much harder it was when he did not obey. Calypso, Helios and Athena were a few of the heroes that were involved in Odysseus getting back home, whether it was difficult, or simple. To begin, Calypso was a sweet Nymph. • 11. Movie Reflection In The Movie 'Drai Santoshi Maa' Movie Reflection In the film "Jai Santoshi Maa" the goddess Santoshi Maa is depicted in many different forms. Santoshi Maa is the "goddess of happiness", she has many forms in which she provides hope for the people. She wears an elegant sari using the gesture of blessing with her hand, and at when she takes her many different forms she has a very calm demeanor which provides hope for her devotees. This idea of hope is shown in the movie multiple times, Satyawati, who is a very faithful devotee of Santoshi Maa, falls in love with Birju who comes from a farming family. The two are able to get married without any problems but the during this time Parvati, Brahmani, and Lakshmi had noticed that Santoshi Maa had been becoming more and more popular and they get jealous. As a result of this they decide that they wanted to torture Sarasvati as she was a big fan of Santoshi Maa. We see this torment right on the day of the wedding as Satyavati's sister in laws are horrible human beings who do everything in their power to bring her down. They give similar treatment to Birju as well as they disrespect him, they feed him left overs and call him useless. This idea of feeding a son of the family leftover as a sign of disrespect is still prominent in India today, because of the idea that women are suppose to provide the men of the family with fresh cooked food not leftovers. Eventually Birju gets fed–up with all this and leaves the house to prove his worth. When leaving the goddess send a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Greek Gods And Goddesses Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some of them hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through her two–sided role as an influential women in society and her opposite qualities apparent during acts of mass destruction. Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother Apollo (Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by Hera, Zeus 's jealous primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera, Zeus took Leto to a floating island shielded from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there because technically she was not on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60). Artemis is the huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence 's safety and values virginity highly. She is also called Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The cypress is her holy tree and deer are especially holy to her in addition to her passion for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is characterized as "...lover of the woods and the wild chase over the mountains," (Hamilton 31). Artemis was a strong female from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to Olympus by Zeus because of their amazing beauty. On their third birthday, when he pulled them up to the heavens, he asked Artemis what gifts she would like. She knew exactly what she wanted and promptly explained her six requests. First she ... It is a fact that there are over 60 of them, but the twelve major ones are called the olympians. Most people have probably heard of them at some point in time. Not only are there immortal gods and goddesses, but also there are mortals(half bloods) that became immortal because of something they did. The first two immortals were hera and zeus they were also brother and sister.Their mother was rhea and their father was cronus. Both parents were titans and it is said that cronus "swallowed his children because he had been told that one of his descendants would dethrone him one day" rhea hid zeus away until he was old enough to ... They must have studied about their gods and goddesses quit a bit in order to make it this complicated. • 21. Secondary Goddesses In Myth Universes For the past centuries, many researchers dedicated their time and scholarly work to reveal more about myth universes and how they developed throughout the history. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, archeologists and other prehistorians proposed the idea that once there was a Great Goddess who defined the meaning of the Mother Earth. The Great Goddess was powerful and fertile: As the time went by and the societies evolved, she gave birth to many secondary goddesses, and blessed them with her powers. However, instead of possessing all of the Great Goddess' extraordinary abilities, these secondary goddesses played specialized roles within mythology universes they belonged in. • 23. The Evil Of Gods And Goddesses Many years ago, the humans set ablaze the Earth. Destruction was all around their disfigured bodies, and where life once thrived, it vanished into an abyss. The gods and goddesses were horrified, so Zeus took charge. He ordered Hephaestus to create a human baby that's blessed with godlike qualities. The child would seem to be a gift from the heavens, but in reality, she is going to destroy the world in unforgiving heat. The child's name is Xiuhcoatl. Zeus kept the child a secret from the rest, and years went by, and not a word was spoken about his creation. The millions of grains of sand form around the outer edges of Poseidon's feet. Within an instant, the god of thunder summons all his strength to produce winds that cause the building to shake. Lightning flashes across the sky; the energy weaves through the ocean, and leaves behind streaks. Disoriented, Hades and Poseidon, are forcefully grabbed by their necks and thrown back to Earth. Zeus, drifts down, and opens his mouth. Yet, there is no sound coming out of him. All of a sudden, Zeus, the mighty and powerful, Zeus, doesn't seem so powerful anymore. Eventually he whispers, "I know I have been unfaithful, but this child you speak of must be killed. Hera shouldn't have heard of this in the first place. She's not very fond of me, anyways. Why must you two make a ruckus?" Poseidon, offended, shoots back with, "It wasn't us who betrayed our wives, we can't keep cleaning up your messes. Who is this child anyways? You..." These deities are characterized by embodying some form of divine nature over humans. This is evident in the Epic of Gilgamesh as the gods and goddesses depicted in this epic poem demonstrate their powers by interacting with the mortals throughout the narrative. During the epic, the several gods and goddesses interfered with the events of mankind and made their impact on the lives of the characters. While they played their part, the gods in this story demonstrated human–like characteristics, which is a common archetype in ancient stories such as this epic. • 29. Examples Of Gods And Goddesses This research deals with the dark representation of gods and goddesses in Greek mythology. The research will explain the qualities and the behaviors of the Greek gods and goddesses by giving examples of their actions from The Odyssey and Prometheus Bound. The two major issues which will be discussed, in particular, are: firstly, the injustice of those gods and goddesses while they are dealing with mortals. Their injustice will be clear through the ways in which they punish their people. Secondly, the relationships between gods and goddesses in addition to the affairs that they have had. This research aims to apply the behaviors of the gods and goddesses on The Odyssey and Prometheus Bound, and aims to find out the reasons behind why Greeks have represented their gods and goddesses in this dark image. But when it comes to the Greek gods and goddesses, this sense of justice is absent in their deeds, and in contradiction, the sense of injustice is obvious. It is the first time when I read about the leader of all gods (Zeus) who forgets one of his people, and when the goddess Athena reminds him of Odysseus, he denies the fact that he has forgotten him. The broad variety of female deities in the ancient myth traditions, rituals and religions of the world is incredibly immense. Their geographical and chronological diversity is surprising. Perhaps, this image, this ancient manifestation of the concept of the maternal deity, and its symbolism could be the most common feature of the archaeological findings of the ancient world. After Poseidon sunk the Phaiacians' ship, he was looking for Odysseus, but Athena put a mist over the island so that he could not see him and she could guide him to the suitors, the men who wanted his wife for themselves, to get revenge. • 43. Analysis Of The Great Mother Archetype After consciousness passes through the uroboric stage, the next archetypal symbol Neumann offers is that of the Great Mother. Similar to the uroboros, the Great Mother typically enters the mythical realm as the first sexed being within it. Still possessing the ability to create without a partner, this figure is often linked to nature, fertility and the unconscious. At this stage, the ego has not fully established independence from its unconscious source, which is apparent in the sexed son–lovers, created by the Great Mother to beget more creation unto her world (often at the sacrifice of the male counterpart). Diotima's variation of the origin of Love (Eros) demonstrates an interesting embodiment of the Great Mother Archetype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, the nature of Love is hermaphroditic, not in the sense that it hasn't escaped the uroboric stage development with an undeveloped germ–like ego floating in a vast sea of unconsciousness; but rather that this god, this spirit, this being marks a true return of the fundamental unity the uroboros represents. Through its conscious will Love seeks to attain the fullness ardently desired by its unconscious, willfully ignorant that any beauty or wisdom it holds will slip away the second he grasps for a second handful. I find this origin not only provocative but also profoundly moving. I also think it has interesting implications for Neumann's interpretation of the role of the feminine and masculine within the Uroboros (and the Great Mother as well). Neumann himself says that, "Hunger and food are the prime movers of mankind" (27). Applying this declaration to Diotima's myth, the connection to Poverty as the prime mover is more than apparent. It is precisely this emptiness, this lacking which drives her to join with Resource and create Love, and in this sense, it is she, not the masculine element who acts as the "initial movement, the procreative thrust" (Neumann 18). Essentially, Woman is always first, not just in presence, but in action and desire. * * * Moving on to what was actually assigned, I decided to examine the myth of Adonis and Aphrodite. Another myth ties Kali with Parvati, telling of an army of demons that threatens the safety of the world. Men cannot slay them, and so Shiva calls for his wife to aid them in battle. Parvati accepts the responsibility, swallowing the poison stored in Shiva's throat and morphing into Kali. The female deities are also not a part of the Hindu trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) that represent the gods of creation, preservation and destruction. The Goddesses : The Gods Distinctly, the goddesses designated in this chapter occur in the midst of the earliest pagan deities indicated in numerous ancient writings; particularly, the ones frequently linked to the land of Canaan. In fact, several of the goddesses that promoted idolatry and prostitution exist unequivocally in the King James Version of the Bible, such as Ashtoreth, Diana and Lilith. Although, the word 'prostitute' exists merely once (Lev 19:29), still, prostitution happens to become identified with various words; such as "whore(s), whoredom(s), harlot(s), pollute or polluted;" (which can mean prostitute) that encounters being referenced frequently. Intrinsically, the prophets of the Bible caution against whoring after the other gods and goddesses; whereby, the cult prostitutes developed among the numerous idols the Israelites lusted after. In addition, the term 'goddess' takes place only five times in the manuscript; however, there occurs various terminology used to reference her high existence. The word abomination(s) has several meanings, but essentially leans toward disgust. It also provides explanation of Greek heroes, rituals, and stories that traveled throughout Ancient Greece and other cultures. It's through the use of interviews with historical experts and Greek artifacts that the documentary provides a detailed introduction of Greek mythology and the ancient civilization it thrived in. A notable topic of the documentary, made the clear by experts, was the contrasts of Greek mythology to the religions of other ancient cultures, which allows viewers to truly get a sense of how different the gods were from civilization to civilization. As mentioned in the video one of the most revolutionary aspects of Greek mythology was the depiction of gods and goddesses as humans, rather than other religions from Egypt and Mesopotamia which had divinities that were associated with animals like lions. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As someone who hardly has any prior knowledge of Greek mythology I found this documentary to be very effective in introducing the most important divinities of ancient Greek culture. The speakers throughout the video delve into how the gods and goddesses shaped the lives of Greeks both in positive and negative aspects. One of the greater explanations was both the general honoring and criticizing of Greek gods, which came to be because of the Greeks looked onto the actions and outcome of the gods to help them strive for perfection within humans. Thus, I came to the personal conclusion that the heroic stories that involve the divinities were like fables to the Greeks, stories that taught moral lessons on how to live. Thus, the substance of the documentary for me is what is most effective, because it's provoking and not just simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gods And Goddesses Essay Carter Ronca Professor Robinson February 10, 2015 First Unit Assessment Essay Gods and Goddesses The beginning of religion coexists with the beginning of humans trying to take control over the world and protect themselves and limit their vulnerability to the outside forces. The need of early human society is the same everywhere. This need of protection eventually evolves down the road to the need for freedom and escape from pain. The development of central governments would lead to the formation of divine kings and empires. This growth would unify the different goals and the needs of the people. • 76. Why Do Goddesses Mirror The Goddesses' Mirror by David Kinsley, displays goddesses from various distinct cultures. Every single goddess is known due to unique and special attributes. Many goddesses are associated with the earth and the fertility linked with the earth. Three of the goddesses focused in this book are from the Hindu tradition (Durga, Lakshmi, and Sita), while the other two are from the religious tradition of Mesopotamia and Egypt (Inanna and Isis) respectively. All these goddesses have distinct factors, but the real questions are; what characteristics make them the goddess and does those who share the same characteristics also a goddess? This paper will be focusing on the numerous factors that make a divine feminine, a "Goddess," and how the goddesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not necessarily. There are some goddesses who fall prey to this view of patriarchal culture. There are pieces of evidence in Kinsley's textbook to support this idea. To begin with, Inanna, who is a Mesopotamian goddess, a goddess of love, beauty, sex, desire, fertility, and political power. Even though she has so much power, she is still seen as a submissive character, for example, when she offered Gilgamesh everything in return for his love, she is insulted for being outspoken, and her character was questioned. On the other hand, Indian goddesses such as Durga, Kali, Lakshmi, and Sita are central even in the patriarchal culture. Durga and Kali are even considered to be powerful and independent than the male deities, and they can easily dominate them (xvii). Hinduism seems to teach that goddesses are essential and does not necessarily imply sexual equality. Besides, female power, creativity, and authority in the religious domain do not necessarily suggest a higher female status. Indeed, sometimes the same text can contain an elevated goddess theology and a low estimate of women's status. For example, the author of the Devi Bhagavata Purana, a text that praises the "Great Goddess" above all other deities, and interestingly also despises women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
