Greece Economic Crisis Analysis
With the collapse of the Wall street financial market in 2008, Greece become the center of Europe's
economic crisis. With employment rates more than 25 percent, Greece is suffering from a financial
crisis equivalent to if not greater than the U.S. Great Depression. The source of the crisis originated
in the inefficient management of the Greece's economy and government finances. Additionally,
Greece's involvement in the euro zone reflected a monetary policy that was at odds with its fiscal
policy. The crisis resulted in troika providing emergency funds to pay off Greece international loans.
The cause of Greece's financial crisis was led by two factors. First, the country was undermined by
political misconduct consisting of extensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greece's banking system was locked and capital control measures were enforced constraining ATM
cash withdrawals to 60 euros a day and not allowing businesses to transfer payments [3].
The other aspect of Greece financial crisis is its membership to the euro zone. The euro zone was
developed for political intents to drive a firmer economic and monetary union within the 19
countries that employ a single currency in the European union. The monetary policy on how much
currency can be printed is regulated by the European central bank. The amount of money that can be
spent and where is based on each individual country's government. The European central bank is
more concentrated on keeping inflation under control then individual countries economic policies.
Therefore, Greece was incapable of employing its individual monetary policy to reduce its interest
rates or undervalue its currency to promote economic growth that corresponds to its fiscal and
political demands. The Greek population suffered greatly with the bailouts and austerity measures
employed by the creditors. Unemployment rates increased and are currently at 25 percent, in which
nearly half of the unemployed are under the age of 25. Additionally, those employed receive less
minimum monthly income currently at 684 euros than at the initiation of the crisis where the
minimum monthly income was 863 euros. Amongst the population, retirees have

Overview of Bureau of Economic Analysis
1. The current economic situation of the US compared with five years ago shows that the US was
entering recession then, and is coming out of downturn now. The Bureau of Economic Analysis
publishes GDP data. On a yearly basis, 2008 saw a decline of 0.3% based on chain 2005 dollars. The
slump accelerated in 2009 with a decline of 3.1%. Since then, the economy has grown 2.4%, 1.8%
and 2.2% respectively. Quarterly data shows a decline of 1.8% in Q1 2008, and Q4 2012 (the latest
data available) shows an increase of only 0.1%. While the slow rate of growth is less than ideal, the
economy is nevertheless performing better than it was at this point five years ago.
Two other major indicators come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate in
March 2008 was 5.1% and today it is 7.7%. The 5.1% figure is around normal for that period of
time, while today's figure is an improvement over the levels of the past four years. It is worth
considering that unemployment is a lagging indicator, but even with that it is clear that the economy
is doing more poorly today than it was in early 2008.
Another indicator is the inflation rate. The current CPI is 0.0% for the month of January. In March
of 2008 it was 0.4%. As monthly readings go, the 0.4% rate is fairly high, while 0.0% is below the
Fed's target rate. The inflation figure for early 2008 is a little bit misleading, as that period saw a
run–up in fuel prices. The core CPI number might be better to look at for that period.

Unit 38 Economic Environment Analysis
Unit 38: Business and the Economic Environment Assignment 1: Understand the impact on
businesses of changes in the economic environment Task 1 (P1) Explain the effects, of changes in
the economic environment on a selected business. My selected business is Next Retail PLC. Next,
styled as next, is a British multinational clothing, footwear and home products retailer headquartered
in Enderby, Leicestershire. The economic cycle is the natural fluctuation of the economy between
periods of expansion and contraction. Factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), interest rates,
levels of employment and consumer spending can help to determine the current stage of the
economic cycle. The economic cycle affects Next as if the economy is in a recession stage then
consumers will have less disposable income. It also affects Next positivity for example if the
economy is in the boom stage then sales are likely to increase due to a rise in consumer spending
because the public have more disposable income. Below is a diagram of the economic cycle. GDP
or Gross Domestic Product GDP is considered as a measure of how wealthy the country is. If the
economy was going through a Growth/Boom period, this would affect a lot of businesses in
different ways. It would affect Next as it means more people will be employed which leads to
people spending more as they have the money to do so. This will result in a higher profit for the
company as customers will have more money to

Immigrants: An Economic Analysis
Nowadays, the rate of immigration keeps increasing as the days go by. Typically you would believe
that they would locate in cities that are more prone to immigrants, but that is actually not the case. In
recent years, immigrants have actually located in cities that you would not even imagine, Nashville
for example. It's not typical for immigrants to locate in cities that are not known as having a higher
immigrant population. When I first read the article and found that out I was completely surprised.
Nashville being part of the list of cities that have a growing immigrant population astounded me. I
wouldn't have thought that a city that is highly known for its link with country music would be the
number one city with the fastest growth of foreign born population. I honestly imagined cities like
Los Angeles and Miami to be number one. Even though I was completely surprised by this, it kind
of makes me happy. It's a sign that we as a country are still evolving. It's a good change for us as a
country. Immigrants and their offspring lagging behind when it comes to economics does not
surprise me, but I do think that it's not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Major Economic System Analysis
James Madison, one of the founders of our country, said, "A good government implies two things:
first, fidelity to the object of government, which is the happiness of the people; secondly, a
knowledge of the means by which that object can be best attained (Federalist no.62)." All economic
systems are controlled by a government, therefore the goals are chiefly the same. Most economic
systems have the prosperity of their population as their ultimate goal, but they utilize different
methods to accomplish it.
With the risk of generalizing, I will give a brief overview of the major economic systems.
Capitalism applies a method based on selfishness; it operates under the assumption that if there is no
incentive than nothing will be done. Communism's basis is equality; ... Show more content on

For example, Scandinavian countries have higher income tax rates than the U.S. and the U.K.
according to the _______ Their tax rates generally favor the poor, and income inequality is
criticized.
Communist countries don't have the kind of taxes capitalist countries have; they take everything and
redistribute it amongst the people. In theory it is redistributed evenly, but generally only certain
people can buy more valuable things.
Taxes, as can be seen, display how a government runs and what it's philosophy is. How the taxes or
other income is utilized is another means by which we can know how and why an economic system
runs how it does. Most government expenditures can be classified as government programs, thus
those are what I am going to examine.
Capitalism views government programs as a necessary evil, inasmuch as capitalism is based on
letting the economy run without much interference. Capitalist countries normally have a police
force, and other basic government programs, but they don't normally have very extensive welfare
systems or government run health

Article Analysis Week 1 Economics 365
Week One Article Analysis ECO/365 January 16, 2012 Week One Article Analysis David Colander
defines economics as "the study of how human beings coordinate their wants and desires, given the
decision–making mechanisms, social customs, and political realities of the society" (Colander, 2010,
p. 4). Coordination in this definition refers to production content, method, recipients, and even
quantity. To think like an economist one must analyze every situation by comparing the costs and
benefits and make any decisions based on those findings (Colander, 2010). The study of
microeconomics zeroes in on the individual and analyzes how economic forces affect the choices he
or she makes. Economic forces will ensure that what people want ... Show more content on

Policy makers are taking part in decision–making processes previously conducted by managers and
officers on the board. As in the past, when government becomes involved it most likely will mean a
permanent change in its role (Beinhocker, Davis, & Mendonca, 2009). The change in
consumption patterns is due to the fact that the 80's and 90's saw high consumption by baby–
boomers financing their purchases. As the recession began the boomers faced retirement buried
under large amounts of debt. This easily brought buying to a halt and with the aging population and
depleted savings it will be a more slowly rise back to normal patterns. All industries are generally
affected by a recession. The trend outlined here is that businesses will continue to reshape
themselves during these times at an even higher rate. Taking advantage of opportunities that become
present can reshape a business's competitive environment and give them an advantage in this
economy. The final accelerated trend reviewed is the pattern of price instability. Over the past thirty
years companies grew to expect an overall steady price environment. This is no longer the case. The
article suggests that "rather than trying to accurately forecast inflation or deflation – an impossible
task – companies should focus on how they might manage price instability" (Beinhocker et al., 2009
p. 60). They recommend reviewing contracts with suppliers, wage agreements, policies on pricing,

U.s. Economy 's Economic Analysis
As indicated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), add up to generation in the U.S. economy
developed at a 2.1% clasp in the second from last quarter of 2015. In the second quarter, genuine
(GDP) was modified up to 3.9% development. There are a few issues with depending on GDP to
gage financial wellbeing, yet these are as yet promising signs for a nation battling through the
slowest post–retreat recuperation in its history. Positive financial numbers just add to assumptions
about a potential loan fee climb by the Federal Reserve heading into 2016. The Fed has not raised
loan costs since before the Great Recession, and no one is sure how markets will respond when an
expansion at long last arrives. A groundbreaking 0.25 Fed stores rate climb is stand out test the U.S.

Malaysia is a multi–cultural Southeast Asian country with a federal constitutional monarchy.
Malaysia originated from the Malay Kingdoms which were subject to the British Empire for a long
time. Malaysia gained independence in August 1957. Today, Due to Malaysia's natural resources, it
has an average GDP growth rate of 6.5% for around 50 years.
Malaysia has a very attractive GDP growth, due to its various strengths in its economy, healthcare,
abundance of natural resources and literacy. Malaysian economic strength is due to various factors

Furthermore, there is no value added tax and the corporate tax rate is 25%. This indicate that tax
burden in individuals is very low. However, the large government spending is recent years have led
to a budget deficit and a public debt which is 53% of GDP. Malaysian Government has to improve
its budget planning otherwise it will be in deep trouble in the future.
Additionally, although the literacy rate is high, the innovation is missing from the society. According
to Charles Santiago, Malaysia needs to improve innovation, otherwise the economy would be
paralyzed. Malaysia also needs to promote the export of value added products rather than primary
products. Therefore, Malaysians should focus on changing the curriculum in educational institutions
in order to encourage creativity and boost technological innovation.
Malaysia has a tremendous potential to grow due to its resources and the attractive and stable
financial environment. However, it also has a lot of challenges to overcome before it is able to
become a stable economically strong country. The government needs to control the corruption in the
country by encouraging transparency; it needs to manage its spending, revise the education system
of the country, and put more efforts into social welfare to reduce inequality and nepotism. Only after
these efforts could Malaysia move towards prosperity.

The Eritrean economy continues to face several challenges which are increasingly undermining
inclusive growth and job creation. One of the main factors that brought the Eritrean economy to the
level of recession is war. According to African Developmental Bank Group, Eritrea was engaged in
a border conflict with Ethiopia in 1998 to 2001. The war caused losing of millions of dollars and
hundreds of human casualties in both countries(10). The border conflict rose up in the less than a
decade after Eritrea became an independent country. This shows that how the economic progress of
the country in the nation rebuild strategy diverted to regional war, and cost the new country millions
of dollars in its few years of independence. This political instability influenced that level of
governmental spending in to war and caused tremendous economic destruction. According to Eritrea

Jamaica 's Economic Analysis On The Bank Of Jamaica
As it relates to Jamaica 's economic analysis of key indicators; let begin with the rate of exchange
for the major world currencies. Based on the Bank of Jamaica (2015) the weighted average rate for
one US dollar was J$116.22 as at 5th June, 2015 while one Canadian currency cost was sold for
J$93.04 and a pound sterling went for J$178.24. This means that the MES–Sim Corporation coming
from Canada will have more money to spend when the dollar is converted to the local Jamaica
dollar. The Jamaica Stock Market (Jamaica SE) decreased to 98401.81 Index Points in June 2015
from 98766.31 Index Points in May of 2015; the stock market in Jamaica averaged 47765.64 Index
Points from 1987 until 2015, reaching an all time high of 120385.40 Index Points in April of 2005

Global Economic Conditions and Market Analysis
Global economic conditions The global economic conditions have a direct bearing on the local
economic condition within the nation. This means that the product (SOC) has also be greatly
affected in terms of demand and distribution. The global economic growth has been noted to have
slowed down over 2012 and this trend is expected to be sustained over the next two years. This
means there will be a downgrade to the earlier projected growth rate, though there still will be a
growth rate, albeit at a lower pace than was hitherto foreseen. The UN Department of Economic and
Social affairs (2013) forecasts a 2.4% global growth in 2013 and a further 3.2% global growth in
2014. This means that the recovery from the job loss that was triggered in 2008 recession takes
longer. What this means for the local microeconomic situation in the country is that more people
prioritize the essential and basic goods first and considering the daily consumption supply as a
priority. This negatively impacts on my business since the cards that are exchanged globally,
particularly during the special seasons and occasions are often considered secondary needs hence
one would get into buying on either online or physically, if and when they shall have fulfilled their
primary needs.

operational tasks or concurrently produce complementary or distinct products or services instead of
singularly and separately producing products or services. In the long–term, a firm can lower average
and marginal costs through advantages in economies of scope. As an example, Liberty University
(LU) uses economies of scope by offering a wide spectrum of education specialties for the

With an abundance of complexities to consider, the size of a firm is one decision factor into whether
to downsize without changing wages or to keep all workers but reduce wages. Accordingly, a large
organization may have the capacity within the workforce to alleviate the need to downsize by
offering early retirement or buy–outs (van Dalen & Henkens, 2013). Therefore, the implementation
of an attrition program may be an appropriate response for a large organization in addition to
reducing wages for the remaining employees to return to a state of wage equilibrium. On the
contrary, losing a critical "go–to" employee in a small firm may adversely affect the ability of the
business to stay productive and profitable in the long–term (van Dalen & Henkens, 2013).

Economic Analysis ( Ks ) Essay
Economic Analysis (KS) The Federal Reserve reports in the Beige Book that was most recently
published on April 15, 2015, that throughout the twelve Federal Reserve Districts, which include,
Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis,
Kansa City, Dallas, and San Francisco, economic expansion continued to grow within most regions.
Consumer spending is on an upswing in Boston Philadelphia, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and San
Francisco, who all reported higher retail sales to the Federal Reserve, and attribute this partly to
consumers saving money on energy prices and spending that money on retail transactions. This can
have great potential benefit for Apple Inc. because it shows that consumers in these regions are
visiting retailers more and might be more apt to purchase Apple products. At the other end of the
spectrum the New York, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, and Dallas regions reported
mixed to slightly lower retail sales, and the Cleveland region reported that retail sales remained flat.
These reports could mean that people in these regions are less likely to spend money at retailers,
meaning they are less likely to spend their money on Apple products (U.S. Federal Reserve).
Demand for manufactured products, as reported to the Federal Reserve, were mixed during the
period. Although Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas, and San Francisco report an
increase on net of manufacturing,

1980's Economic Analysis
From the 1970s forward, countries that belonged to the socialist block were in deepening economic
difficulties. There was growing conviction among the public that the old political systems could not
solve the growing economic problems. In this chapter I will focus on four countries: Hungary,
Czechoslovakia, Russia, and China. By the late 1980s the public in these countries believed that
communist economic arrangements had failed and needed to be replaced rather than repaired. In
response, these economies have rejected all or, in the case of China, some of central planning. In
centrally planned economies (CPEs) prices do not represent actual costs, incentive systems are

Liberalization means eliminating price controls and relaxing trade protection. It also means freeing
entry into production, services and trade. Liberalized markets process information better than central
planned economies and they allocate resources more efficiently. Stabilization means reducing
inflation and containing domestic and external imbalances. Stabilization is necessary for market
economies to grow. Hungary began liberalizing gradually in the 1960s. The reform process in
Hungary was beset by many setbacks, but it persisted over twenty years. Although Hungary in the
1980s was not a market based economy, the country was better prepared than the other countries for
the political liberalization of 1989–1990. Before 1989 there was an efficient system of resource
allocation and product distribution, avoiding both severe shortages and repressed inflation. There
was a small–scale private ownership sector, a two–tier banking system, a tax reform, and a corporate
law. In January 1991 Hungary adopted a gradualist program, involving a small devaluation of 15%,
a further liberalization of prices (up to 90% of the consumer prices by the end of 1991), and
restrictive fiscal, monetary, and incomes policies. This program was more ambitious and it also
included a further liberalization of

of a population. There are three unequivocal economic systems capitalist, socialism and mixed
economy (Cullen, Parboteeach, 2014, p.92).
After careful analysis and research, America's economic system best relates to a mixed economy,
which is consternation to me. While manufacturers have control over production and sells, the
government plays a role in economic decision. Individuals & corporations own the factors of
production; government enforces oversight on laws & legislature ("U.S. Economic System –

Here is a great example of how the internet has helped in price and product comparison: "a
consumer buying a car may not be informed fully about the safety features of various models or may
not have adequate information to evaluate the importance or usefulness of various options (e.g.,
antilock brakes, four–wheel drive, side cross beams to reduce the damage from a side collision). The
information asymmetry about those models or features is common and may allow an "aggressive"
sales person to exploit the buyer's ignorance" (Englander & Moy, 2003).
Another major utility of the internet is the ability to keep people connected. The internet allows
friends and family to pay a low monthly price for e–mail, instant message and the ability to speak
through a person's computer. People can actually dial out to another computer and hold a
conversation just as if they were on the phone.

Normative Analysis: The Two Types Of Economic Analysis

analysis answers the questions "what is?" or "what will be?" and normative analysis answers the
question "what ought to be". A normative analysis is telling someone how it should be and a positive
analysis is saying if something happens, what will be the outcome. Three examples of positive
analysis: o If a company shuts down, where will the employees work now? o If a college student
can't get financial aid or scholarships, how will they pay for college? o If gas prices continue to rise,
will more hybrid cars be bought? Three examples of normative analysis: o Should the government

i. Natural Resources – the resources we use from our environment to produce products and services.
Example – People cutting down trees to turn the wood into paper that people use all the time. j.
Factors of Production – the overall input resources that we are able to use to produce goods and

but has went up since then to $7.25 in 2015. Since the minimum wage price has gone up so has the

decision is made about producing the iMac. Some of the factors are: demand and supply, price

When prices are higher the demand decreases and the supply increases and vice versa. The market is
in equilibrium when supply and demand curves intersect. If the quantity of iMacs demanded and
quantity supplied are equal the market is in equilibrium. The price where the supply and demand
curves intersect is the equilibrium price or market clearing price. If the market price of iMac is
above the equilibrium price, quantity supplied is greater than quantity demanded, creating a surplus.
The price will decrease. Example: if Apple have a lot of iMac inventory that cannot sell we need to
decrease the price, the iMac quantity demanded will increase until equilibrium is reached. When the
market priced is below the equilibrium price, quantity supplied is lees then quantity demanded, we
have a shortage. Market price will increase because of this shortage. Example: iMac is always out of
stock, raising the price of iMac the iMac's quantity demanded will drop until equilibrium is reached.
Apple is a fierce competitor in several industries, ranging from personal computers to entertainment
media to mobile payment systems.

The National Bureau Of Economic Analysis (NBER)
The business cycle is a series of quantified ups and downs in economies across the world, similar to
the manner in which humans breathe. A positive breath inward to bring oxygen to the lungs, a
negative breath outward to push carbon dioxide out of the lungs, designed to keep the respiratory
system at equilibrium. Without the outward breath, the inward breath would not occur. The business
cycle works in the same manner ¬¬– expansions or "boom" periods acting as the breath inward, and
contractions or "recessions" acting as the breath outward. Both are necessary for an economy to
function, and one would not be able to exist without the other. This is the crux of the issue of
recessions: they are a necessary occurrence, not an evil, in the context ... Show more content on

High School Economics Class Analysis
At the beginning there was an ambivalence between economics and I. As a secondary school student
thinking about a future in Accounting, my educational influences, at the time, suggested I take an
economics class, they assured me that it would be very beneficial in my future endeavors. I was
quite skeptical because I had no idea what economics was about and the subject seemed arid in
comparison to classes like media arts, or drama. However, despite my skepticism, I took the class
anyway. It was challenging, and it was very arid but it was worth it. That high school economics
class taught me a very valuable lesson about Economics and about life. Economics is more than its
surface of supply and demand graphs or gross domestic product, it is about choices and how our
choices impact each other. The lesson on opportunity cost is one that always stayed with me, it is a
part of every decision I make whether I realize it or not. With this experience always in the back of
my mind, I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Finance at the University of Ottawa, hoping to

Economic Analysis and Strategies to Increase Spending
Economic analysis 2006 and 2011. The five year benchmarks selected for this analysis do not well
represent the fluctuations in the economy in the interim years, which have been substantial.
Naturally, the fiscal crisis of 2008 to 2010 had deep and enduring impact on the national and global
economies, but the "bookend" years of this analysis effectively obfuscate the volatility resident in
those years. Fiscal year 2008, for instance, the inflation rate reached nearly 5%, the unemployment
rate peaked in 2009, and the interest rate reached 5% in 2007. What this analysis does provide is a
look at the stabilization of the economy without the noise of the intervening fiscal crisis. Through
the monetary policy by The Fed during the fiscal crisis, efforts have been directed at maximizing
employment and price stability. As a result, the interest rate will remain low with no changes
anticipated until 2014. Inflation has stabilized, interest investments are low but gradually increasing,
and the unemployment rate is slowly dropping but is not expected to accelerate.

Envelopment Analysis In Economics
To measure efficiency performance of greenhouse tomato farms in Kosovo, this study used a non–
parametric data envelopment analysis (DEA). Production efficiency with input–oriented DEA is
analyzed under constant returns to scale (CRS) with the CCR model and variable returns to scale
(VRS) with the BCC model. The sample size consists of 94 greenhouse farms surveyed in all
regions of Kosovo. Greenhouse tomato farms under VRS had an efficiency range of 0.5<= E <1 for
a total of 35 farms, and 59 farms had an efficiency of one. Under CRS the range is from 0<= E <1
for 87 farms and only seven farms had efficiency scores of 1. The results from both models show

Human labor is shown in multiple studies as an influencing input variable (Alboghdady, 2014;
Theodoridis & Anwar, 2011). Identification of production inefficiencies with DEA aims to help
small greenhouse farmers lift themselves out of poverty.
A large body of literature has examined the usage of DEA as an efficiency measurement in
agriculture (Aktan & Samut, 2013; Liu, Zhang, XiuLi, & Li, 2015; Wang, Huo, & Kabir, 2008). Few
researchers have conducted research using it for the production efficiency of greenhouse tomatoes.
This study's objective is to provide the underlying support to understand the process of improving
the production efficiency of Kosovar greenhouse tomato farms.
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) under VRS and CRS with input focus is used to quantify
greenhouse tomato farms' efficiency performance. This non–parametric approach deals effectively
with scale issues. We use DEA's CCR model with CRS introduced by Charnes, Cooper, & Rhodes
(1978) and BCC model with VRS by Banker, Charnes, & Cooper (1984). Analysis is conducted
using R Programming with RStudio. Data preparation was performed prior to running the CCR and
BCC models. Correlation matrix, z–score distribution and Mahalanobis for outlier detection were
part of the respective preparation. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development in

Difference Between Financial Analysis And Economic Analysis
Financial Analysis and Economic Analysis
Financial analysis of the project compare benefits and costs incurred to the firm or induvial, while
the economic analysis compare the benefits and costs incurred to whole society or economy.
Undiscounted Measures of Project Worth
The basic difference between these two measures is the consideration of time value of money in the
project investment. Undiscounted measures do not take into account the time value of money, while
discounted measures do take the time factor in calculations. There are five types of undiscounted
measures of project worth:
1. Ranking by Inspection
2. Payback Period
3. Proceeds per unit outlay
4. Average annual proceeds per unit of outlay
5. Average income on book value of investment

Average income on book value of investment
This is the ratio of "average income to the book value of the assets". We calculate average income
by subtracting "depreciation" from "average net value of incremental production (proceeds)" stated
in percentage terms. We get depreciation by dividing capital cost by number of years. "Average
book value" is calculated by dividing capital cost by 2. Now we will compare "average income on
book value of investment" and select the one which gives highest value and highest rank.
Discounted Measures of Project Worth:
Discounted measures of project worth take time value of money under consideration. The most
common means of doing this is to subtract year–by–year the costs from the benefits to get the
"incremental net benefit stream" the so–called cash flow and then to discount that. To calculate
discounted measures of a project worth, we need to choose a discount rate for calculating all
methods. There are four types of discounted measures of project worth:
1. NPW=Net present worth (value)
2. IRR=Internal rate of return
3. B/C=Benefit cost ratio
4. N/K=net benefit investment

Republican party leads with most seats in Congress, and the U.S. Economy is on the rise. The first
two factors have a hand in how well the economy is doing. With a new president in office, there
have been some recent changes to policies and government regulations. Currently, a new tax reform
is being proposed for the 2017 tax year, which looks to cut 1.5 trillion dollars towards business and

sources used to evaluate the environmental scan: social, economic, technological, competitive, and

to target specific groups for higher sells (Kerin et al., 2016). With technological advancements
products that were once out of reach of the average consumer are now obtainable. Together with the
economy on the rise, companies have seen an increase in sells with their products. Today's market is

that practice poor social and environmental responsibilities can suffer loses in revenue and consumer
loyalty (Kerin et al., 2016). Under the new tax reform bill, small business will receive more of a

Watchers is a company that has been around for the last 50 years and has been developing their
brand of giving out weight loss services and products that make them a leading weight management
service all over the world. Weight Watchers, without a doubt the largest single player in the highly
disjointed industry has over 45 years of industry experience and like many of its competitors, is
constantly changing its core program so as to become more useable to and petition to a lot of its
members. Since November 2010, it appears that the company has been able to hit a marketing sweet
spot that will lead them to a long term period of profitability that will keep rising. Weight Watchers
Food Co. is revising their trade marketing structure to a big test this year with the start of their new
strategy which involved the "Points Plus program," marketing plan (Denos, 2009). This will be part
of their first major trade and consumer advertising. This is something to take advantage of especially
since people are in the diet season. The company is reorganizing in order to set parallel roles for
consumer and trade promotions managers and likewise bringing down the wall that divides
marketing and sales. The change in this marketing strategy is the first key step in a procedure aimed

Estimates show that plans with a greater number of plan offerings are valued more (Dunn, 2010).
Elasticity of Kaiser Heath Insurance
There are several approaches to estimating the elasticity of insurance offered by employment
companies. The first is to apply distinctions in the premiums expressed by them to identify their
price consideration. Another approach is to use the distinctions in tax ratios over cities or sates to
recognize the price elasticity of recommended insurance. Insurance plans often contain hundreds of
plan features that affect out of pocket pay to consumers and may be changed as easily as the
premium on the plan. These out of pocket pay benefits may be particular important in the market
where a minor of beneficiaries are enrolled in zero premium plans and a large portion of
beneficiaries income is spent on out of pocket pay. The demand reveals that out of pocket pay have a
significant weight on surplus. There is a wide difference in the amount paid to different plans across
the country, with HMO plans being paid more than traditional Medicare and PPO plans being paid
even more (Dunn, 2010). The demand for health insurance may be elastic if an increase in price
would lead to more than a decrease in subscribers. The HMO would lose profits by raising price.
Elastic demand is necessary for there to be a motivation to reduce price (Enthoven, 1993).

United States Economic Analysis
To predict the State of the United States (US) Economy is a constant and complicated duty.
Professionals utilize economic indicators that may either confirm or predict long–term trends:
lagging and leading indicators, respectively. This paper will attempt to asses the State of the US
Economy as relatively strong by analyzing six comprehensive and representative economic
indicators: Consumer Price Index, Unemployment, Gross Domestic Product, the S&P 500, Existing
Home Sales, and Personal Income and Outlays. The first indicator of the economy to be analyzed is
that of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This index is widely considered to be the benchmark
inflation guide to the US economy. Essentially, it compares a wide base of products from year to
year that are commonly bought and used by consumers on a daily basis. Because it can only gauge
the general trend of inflation and cannot inherently make any predictions, the CPI is considered to

unemployed for fifteen weeks or longer. Because this indicator can only confirm the long–term
trend of unemployment it is considered a lagging indicator. In the most recent U–3 report, the
unemployment rate held steady at 5%. This figure is close to what is considered full employment by
economists (4.7% unemployment), and consequently bodes well for the overall economy. Moreover,
since the last economic downturn, the Great Recession, the unemployment rate has consistently
declined (from a peak of 10% in November 2009), indicating that the US economy is growing and
that more Americans are able to sustain themselves and thus pump more money back into the
economy with their expenditures. Therefore, the current unemployment figure is indicative of the

For each measure, I attempt to build the best empirical mapping as made available by my data. First,
I calculate a firm's value by adding the book value of debt to the market value of equity. I measure
profitability as net income over firm value, financial leverage as book debt over market equity,
capitalization as book equity over assets, growth as market equity over book equity, and volatility as
the quarterly standard deviation of daily log returns. For ease of replication, I collect these variable
definitions into the appendix. Note that although the growth variable appears similar to the usual
Tobin's q measure of non–bank firms, banks by design have a large proportion of their assets held as
debt in the form of deposits, so the usual approximation of neglecting liabilities does not apply. For
bank–specific variables, I also compute total income as non–interest income plus net interest
income. I construct the non–interest income ratio (NIIR) by dividing non–interest income by total
income, the non–bank subsidiary ratio (NBSR) by dividing the count of non–bank subsidiaries
(NAICS codes not equal to 5221) by total subsidiaries, and normalize loans and debt by dividing by
value. All figures use the fullest available information. All tables drop all observations missing any

Economic Analysis Of Unemployment And Its Impact On Gdp
Economic Analysis of Unemployment and its Impact on GDP in Developed Countries Paul
Kuechenmeister Econ 4331W August 3rd, 2014 Introduction This study examines the impact of
unemployment rates to a developed economies growth rate. This paper will be built off of the most
distinguished idea addressing the relation of economic growth and unemployment, Okun's Law .
Okun's Law that assesses the relation between unemployment and economic growth is one of
linearity . Okun's Law is the idea that there is a natural level of unemployment and when the level of
unemployment is above the natural rate, economic growth suffers. This paper aims prove correlation
between the level of unemployment and level of economic growth in developed countries. This
dissertation will utilize a linear regression model for a cross–country regression analysis. The type
of unemployment used in this dissertation will be aggregate unemployment, while drilling down and
separating out structural, frictional and cyclical unemployment would be ideal in running a

Naked Economics Chapter 6 Analysis
In the twelve key elements of economics, the second element states, "There is no such thing as a
free lunch." The author described how spending money on one particular thing means that we are
sacrificing the chance to spend money on something else or if we do one specific thing, we give up
the chance to do something else. In chapter nine, Schiff used an allegory to illustrate this same idea.
The allegory he used was when the senator, Franky Deep, realized the people enjoyed getting things
for free, but they did not like to pay taxes. After a monsoon, he took this as an opportunity to
develop a government reconstruction program. This program made it look like the people on the
island were getting the reconstruction for free, but really, the citizens were still paying for the work.
Therefore, even though the people thought the reconstruction was free, it truly was not. One recent
even that relates to this idea was in an article called, "Everything the Government 'Gives' Someone
Must Be Taken from Taxpayer Dollars." This article states that there is no such thing as the
government giving something away free for the price of nothing. While the government has over
eighty welfare programs to provide individuals free housing, cash, food, and medical care, these
programs are not free. Instead, they are funded for by taxpayers. The fourth element in the twelve
key elements of economics states, "Trade promotes economic progress." This element focused on
the fact that products are

Other groups such as the U.S Chamber of Commerce work on behalf of a wider range of business in
general, helping the entire economy and not just once section of it. Since they are very well funded,
business groups are amongst the most influential because they have the money to go above and
beyond. Promoting interests of private companies and corporations by seeking tax changes,
administrative changes, and other business gains are just some of the many benefits this group 3
strives for. Every business and business industry is different, and because of that, sometimes groups
do not always agree with one another. When this occurs, advocates for the industries will usually
work against one another in achieving each of their goals. Labor groups represent specific unions in
aiding the attempt of increased wages and improving the conditions in which workers strive in.
Unions exist all around the country big and small. Individual workers from a small union might
have minimum say or power alone but when they team together they can wield compelling results.
Labor unions have declined in the recent times but workers that brand together often seek the results

Analysis Of Australi Engines For Economic Growth
Tyler Strunk
Australia: Engines for Economic Growth Australia is a large and diverse country and this diversity is
reflected in the different types of reception businesses receive within their borders. Australia has
both private and government owned businesses. The term government owned business is often
interchangeable with the term SOE (State ownership enterprise). In Australia, these SOEs provide
public goods such as in the case of national defense and merit goods like public health and
education (PwC, 2015, p. 14). In addition, they provide necessary societal needs, such as in the case
of Snowy Hydro throughout Australia and SA Water in South Australia, by providing electricity and
water to the country. Government owned businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Herald states, "the survey found that consumers believe they're getting better value for money
from their banking, insurance, mobile phone and internet service providers than from their
electricity supplier. It also found that consumers are finding the barriers to switching providers too
high, and that they feel there are no real alternatives" (Hatch, 2016). Private businesses aren't
exempt from these complaint either, with the ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer
Commission) handling consumer issues in order to help ensure Australian markets stay fair for
consumers but competitive for the economy (A.C. Commission, 2015). There are many factors that
contribute to the success of businesses in Australia. Australia provides a safe, low–risk environment
in which to do business, it is said that Australia's labor force is among the most skilled and diverse
in the world. Australia has strong economic and cultural ties with the fast–growing Asia–Pacific
region due to their close proximity and a shared time zone. It is also a benefiting factor to businesses
that "the Australian Government promotes business investment in their country and international
trade with Asia (Australian Trade and Investment Commission, 2017). In Australia, and especially in
businesses owned by the indigenous population, success is not only measured by monetary gain.

the market would have already done it."–Any website with economic jokes. However, the method
that the market mentioned is being measured is neither the best nor the only way to measure
economic progress of a country. Page 200 of Naked Economics quotes, "Any measure of economic
progress depends on how you define progress. GDP just adds up the numbers. There is something to
be said for that." I believe that the narrator is giving a caveat that GDP is simply the culmination of
numerical values from consumption, investment, government spending, and net exports and despite
being useful, should not be the primary measurement of economic progress. Wheelman also states
that any alternative measurement tools vary based on different people's judgement of what to take

progress in developing countries, but not as obvious when comparing developed countries (198). In
the US, policymakers do take into account unemployment, poverty, economic inequality,
demographics, and happiness for fiscal policies, but these are still not technically included in the
GDP, which skews the accurate condition of a country making it very hard to compare with other

Greece Economic Crisis Analysis

 • 1. Greece Economic Crisis Analysis With the collapse of the Wall street financial market in 2008, Greece become the center of Europe's economic crisis. With employment rates more than 25 percent, Greece is suffering from a financial crisis equivalent to if not greater than the U.S. Great Depression. The source of the crisis originated in the inefficient management of the Greece's economy and government finances. Additionally, Greece's involvement in the euro zone reflected a monetary policy that was at odds with its fiscal policy. The crisis resulted in troika providing emergency funds to pay off Greece international loans. The cause of Greece's financial crisis was led by two factors. First, the country was undermined by political misconduct consisting of extensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greece's banking system was locked and capital control measures were enforced constraining ATM cash withdrawals to 60 euros a day and not allowing businesses to transfer payments [3]. The other aspect of Greece financial crisis is its membership to the euro zone. The euro zone was developed for political intents to drive a firmer economic and monetary union within the 19 countries that employ a single currency in the European union. The monetary policy on how much currency can be printed is regulated by the European central bank. The amount of money that can be spent and where is based on each individual country's government. The European central bank is more concentrated on keeping inflation under control then individual countries economic policies. Therefore, Greece was incapable of employing its individual monetary policy to reduce its interest rates or undervalue its currency to promote economic growth that corresponds to its fiscal and political demands. The Greek population suffered greatly with the bailouts and austerity measures employed by the creditors. Unemployment rates increased and are currently at 25 percent, in which nearly half of the unemployed are under the age of 25. Additionally, those employed receive less minimum monthly income currently at 684 euros than at the initiation of the crisis where the minimum monthly income was 863 euros. Amongst the population, retirees have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 3. Overview of Bureau of Economic Analysis 1. The current economic situation of the US compared with five years ago shows that the US was entering recession then, and is coming out of downturn now. The Bureau of Economic Analysis publishes GDP data. On a yearly basis, 2008 saw a decline of 0.3% based on chain 2005 dollars. The slump accelerated in 2009 with a decline of 3.1%. Since then, the economy has grown 2.4%, 1.8% and 2.2% respectively. Quarterly data shows a decline of 1.8% in Q1 2008, and Q4 2012 (the latest data available) shows an increase of only 0.1%. While the slow rate of growth is less than ideal, the economy is nevertheless performing better than it was at this point five years ago. Two other major indicators come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate in March 2008 was 5.1% and today it is 7.7%. The 5.1% figure is around normal for that period of time, while today's figure is an improvement over the levels of the past four years. It is worth considering that unemployment is a lagging indicator, but even with that it is clear that the economy is doing more poorly today than it was in early 2008. Another indicator is the inflation rate. The current CPI is 0.0% for the month of January. In March of 2008 it was 0.4%. As monthly readings go, the 0.4% rate is fairly high, while 0.0% is below the Fed's target rate. The inflation figure for early 2008 is a little bit misleading, as that period saw a run–up in fuel prices. The core CPI number might be better to look at for that period. ... • 5. Unit 38 Economic Environment Analysis Unit 38: Business and the Economic Environment Assignment 1: Understand the impact on businesses of changes in the economic environment Task 1 (P1) Explain the effects, of changes in the economic environment on a selected business. My selected business is Next Retail PLC. Next, styled as next, is a British multinational clothing, footwear and home products retailer headquartered in Enderby, Leicestershire. The economic cycle is the natural fluctuation of the economy between periods of expansion and contraction. Factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), interest rates, levels of employment and consumer spending can help to determine the current stage of the economic cycle. The economic cycle affects Next as if the economy is in a recession stage then consumers will have less disposable income. It also affects Next positivity for example if the economy is in the boom stage then sales are likely to increase due to a rise in consumer spending because the public have more disposable income. Below is a diagram of the economic cycle. GDP or Gross Domestic Product GDP is considered as a measure of how wealthy the country is. If the economy was going through a Growth/Boom period, this would affect a lot of businesses in different ways. It would affect Next as it means more people will be employed which leads to people spending more as they have the money to do so. This will result in a higher profit for the company as customers will have more money to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 7. Immigrants: An Economic Analysis Nowadays, the rate of immigration keeps increasing as the days go by. Typically you would believe that they would locate in cities that are more prone to immigrants, but that is actually not the case. In recent years, immigrants have actually located in cities that you would not even imagine, Nashville for example. It's not typical for immigrants to locate in cities that are not known as having a higher immigrant population. When I first read the article and found that out I was completely surprised. Nashville being part of the list of cities that have a growing immigrant population astounded me. I wouldn't have thought that a city that is highly known for its link with country music would be the number one city with the fastest growth of foreign born population. I honestly imagined cities like Los Angeles and Miami to be number one. Even though I was completely surprised by this, it kind of makes me happy. It's a sign that we as a country are still evolving. It's a good change for us as a country. Immigrants and their offspring lagging behind when it comes to economics does not surprise me, but I do think that it's not a ... • 9. Major Economic System Analysis James Madison, one of the founders of our country, said, "A good government implies two things: first, fidelity to the object of government, which is the happiness of the people; secondly, a knowledge of the means by which that object can be best attained (Federalist no.62)." All economic systems are controlled by a government, therefore the goals are chiefly the same. Most economic systems have the prosperity of their population as their ultimate goal, but they utilize different methods to accomplish it. With the risk of generalizing, I will give a brief overview of the major economic systems. Capitalism applies a method based on selfishness; it operates under the assumption that if there is no incentive than nothing will be done. Communism's basis is equality; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Scandinavian countries have higher income tax rates than the U.S. and the U.K. according to the _______ Their tax rates generally favor the poor, and income inequality is criticized. Communist countries don't have the kind of taxes capitalist countries have; they take everything and redistribute it amongst the people. In theory it is redistributed evenly, but generally only certain people can buy more valuable things. Taxes, as can be seen, display how a government runs and what it's philosophy is. How the taxes or other income is utilized is another means by which we can know how and why an economic system runs how it does. Most government expenditures can be classified as government programs, thus those are what I am going to examine. Capitalism views government programs as a necessary evil, inasmuch as capitalism is based on letting the economy run without much interference. Capitalist countries normally have a police force, and other basic government programs, but they don't normally have very extensive welfare systems or government run health ... Article Analysis Week 1 Economics 365 Week One Article Analysis ECO/365 January 16, 2012 Week One Article Analysis David Colander defines economics as "the study of how human beings coordinate their wants and desires, given the decision–making mechanisms, social customs, and political realities of the society" (Colander, 2010, p. 4). Coordination in this definition refers to production content, method, recipients, and even quantity. To think like an economist one must analyze every situation by comparing the costs and benefits and make any decisions based on those findings (Colander, 2010). The study of microeconomics zeroes in on the individual and analyzes how economic forces affect the choices he or she makes. Economic forces will ensure that what people want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Policy makers are taking part in decision–making processes previously conducted by managers and officers on the board. As in the past, when government becomes involved it most likely will mean a permanent change in its role (Beinhocker, Davis, & Mendonca, 2009). The change in consumption patterns is due to the fact that the 80's and 90's saw high consumption by baby– boomers financing their purchases. As the recession began the boomers faced retirement buried under large amounts of debt. This easily brought buying to a halt and with the aging population and depleted savings it will be a more slowly rise back to normal patterns. All industries are generally affected by a recession. The trend outlined here is that businesses will continue to reshape themselves during these times at an even higher rate. Taking advantage of opportunities that become present can reshape a business's competitive environment and give them an advantage in this economy. The final accelerated trend reviewed is the pattern of price instability. Over the past thirty years companies grew to expect an overall steady price environment. This is no longer the case. The article suggests that "rather than trying to accurately forecast inflation or deflation – an impossible task – companies should focus on how they might manage price instability" (Beinhocker et al., 2009 p. 60). Economy 's Economic Analysis As indicated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), add up to generation in the U.S. economy developed at a 2.1% clasp in the second from last quarter of 2015. In the second quarter, genuine (GDP) was modified up to 3.9% development. There are a few issues with depending on GDP to gage financial wellbeing, yet these are as yet promising signs for a nation battling through the slowest post–retreat recuperation in its history. Positive financial numbers just add to assumptions about a potential loan fee climb by the Federal Reserve heading into 2016. The Fed has not raised loan costs since before the Great Recession, and no one is sure how markets will respond when an expansion at long last arrives. A groundbreaking 0.25 Fed stores rate climb is stand out test the U.S. economy confronts as the new year approaches. Work constrain investment is still generally low. Government officials keep on racking up gigantic shortages and back them with modest credit. Furthermore, the whole worldwide money related framework is wavering since China 's economy at last hindered following quite a while of insatiable development. One of the main factors that brought the Eritrean economy to the level of recession is war. According to African Developmental Bank Group, Eritrea was engaged in a border conflict with Ethiopia in 1998 to 2001. The war caused losing of millions of dollars and hundreds of human casualties in both countries(10). The border conflict rose up in the less than a decade after Eritrea became an independent country. This shows that how the economic progress of the country in the nation rebuild strategy diverted to regional war, and cost the new country millions of dollars in its few years of independence. This political instability influenced that level of governmental spending in to war and caused tremendous economic destruction. According to Eritrea Finance Ministry report, Government spending was 3.4 millions dollars in 1990 's. These amount were implemented in several infrastructure building, social and educational facilities and many other basic and fundamental implementations. • 21. Global Economic Conditions and Market Analysis Global economic conditions The global economic conditions have a direct bearing on the local economic condition within the nation. This means that the product (SOC) has also be greatly affected in terms of demand and distribution. The global economic growth has been noted to have slowed down over 2012 and this trend is expected to be sustained over the next two years. This means there will be a downgrade to the earlier projected growth rate, though there still will be a growth rate, albeit at a lower pace than was hitherto foreseen. The UN Department of Economic and Social affairs (2013) forecasts a 2.4% global growth in 2013 and a further 3.2% global growth in 2014. This means that the recovery from the job loss that was triggered in 2008 recession takes longer. What this means for the local microeconomic situation in the country is that more people prioritize the essential and basic goods first and considering the daily consumption supply as a priority. With an abundance of complexities to consider, the size of a firm is one decision factor into whether to downsize without changing wages or to keep all workers but reduce wages. Accordingly, a large organization may have the capacity within the workforce to alleviate the need to downsize by offering early retirement or buy–outs (van Dalen & Henkens, 2013). Therefore, the implementation of an attrition program may be an appropriate response for a large organization in addition to reducing wages for the remaining employees to return to a state of wage equilibrium. On the contrary, losing a critical "go–to" employee in a small firm may adversely affect the ability of the business to stay productive and profitable in the long–term (van Dalen & Henkens, 2013). Economic Analysis ( Ks ) Essay Economic Analysis (KS) The Federal Reserve reports in the Beige Book that was most recently published on April 15, 2015, that throughout the twelve Federal Reserve Districts, which include, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansa City, Dallas, and San Francisco, economic expansion continued to grow within most regions. Consumer spending is on an upswing in Boston Philadelphia, St. Louis, Minneapolis, and San Francisco, who all reported higher retail sales to the Federal Reserve, and attribute this partly to consumers saving money on energy prices and spending that money on retail transactions. This can have great potential benefit for Apple Inc. because it shows that consumers in these regions are visiting retailers more and might be more apt to purchase Apple products. At the other end of the spectrum the New York, Richmond, Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, and Dallas regions reported mixed to slightly lower retail sales, and the Cleveland region reported that retail sales remained flat. These reports could mean that people in these regions are less likely to spend money at retailers, meaning they are less likely to spend their money on Apple products (U.S. Federal Reserve). Demand for manufactured products, as reported to the Federal Reserve, were mixed during the period. There was growing conviction among the public that the old political systems could not solve the growing economic problems. In this chapter I will focus on four countries: Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Russia, and China. By the late 1980s the public in these countries believed that communist economic arrangements had failed and needed to be replaced rather than repaired. In response, these economies have rejected all or, in the case of China, some of central planning. In centrally planned economies (CPEs) prices do not represent actual costs, incentive systems are absent, losses of unprofitable state–owned enterprises are automatically ... The reform process in Hungary was beset by many setbacks, but it persisted over twenty years. Although Hungary in the 1980s was not a market based economy, the country was better prepared than the other countries for the political liberalization of 1989–1990. Before 1989 there was an efficient system of resource allocation and product distribution, avoiding both severe shortages and repressed inflation. There was a small–scale private ownership sector, a two–tier banking system, a tax reform, and a corporate law. In January 1991 Hungary adopted a gradualist program, involving a small devaluation of 15%, a further liberalization of prices (up to 90% of the consumer prices by the end of 1991), and restrictive fiscal, monetary, and incomes policies. Positive analysis answers the questions "what is?" or "what will be?" and normative analysis answers the question "what ought to be". Three examples of positive analysis: o If a company shuts down, where will the employees work now? o If a college student can't get financial aid or scholarships, how will they pay for college? o If gas prices continue to rise, will more hybrid cars be bought? If the quantity of iMacs demanded and quantity supplied are equal the market is in equilibrium. The price where the supply and demand curves intersect is the equilibrium price or market clearing price. If the market price of iMac is above the equilibrium price, quantity supplied is greater than quantity demanded, creating a surplus. The price will decrease. Example: if Apple have a lot of iMac inventory that cannot sell we need to decrease the price, the iMac quantity demanded will increase until equilibrium is reached. When the market priced is below the equilibrium price, quantity supplied is lees then quantity demanded, we have a shortage. Market price will increase because of this shortage. As a secondary school student thinking about a future in Accounting, my educational influences, at the time, suggested I take an economics class, they assured me that it would be very beneficial in my future endeavors. The five year benchmarks selected for this analysis do not well represent the fluctuations in the economy in the interim years, which have been substantial. Naturally, the fiscal crisis of 2008 to 2010 had deep and enduring impact on the national and global economies, but the "bookend" years of this analysis effectively obfuscate the volatility resident in those years. Fiscal year 2008, for instance, the inflation rate reached nearly 5%, the unemployment rate peaked in 2009, and the interest rate reached 5% in 2007. What this analysis does provide is a look at the stabilization of the economy without the noise of the intervening fiscal crisis. Through the monetary policy by The Fed during the fiscal crisis, efforts have been directed at maximizing employment and price stability. Undiscounted Measures of Project Worth The basic difference between these two measures is the consideration of time value of money in the project investment. Average income on book value of investment This is the ratio of "average income to the book value of the assets". We calculate average income by subtracting "depreciation" from "average net value of incremental production (proceeds)" stated in percentage terms. We get depreciation by dividing capital cost by number of years. "Average book value" is calculated by dividing capital cost by 2. Now we will compare "average income on book value of investment" and select the one which gives highest value and highest rank. Discounted Measures of Project Worth: Discounted measures of project worth take time value of money under consideration. The most common means of doing this is to subtract year–by–year the costs from the benefits to get the "incremental net benefit stream" the so–called cash flow and then to discount that. To calculate discounted measures of a project worth, we need to choose a discount rate for calculating all methods. There are four types of discounted measures of project worth: 1. NPW=Net present worth (value) 2. IRR=Internal rate of return 3. B/C=Benefit cost ratio 4. N/K=net benefit investment

The company is reorganizing in order to set parallel roles for consumer and trade promotions managers and likewise bringing down the wall that divides marketing and sales. The change in this marketing strategy is the first key step in a procedure aimed at re–generating the company's sales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 60. Business Proposal Economic Analysis The United States health care system relies heavily on private health insurance, which is the main source of coverage for most Americans. According to the Center of Disease Control, approximately 58% of Americans have private health insurance. The primary public programs are Medicare, a federal social insurance program for seniors and certain disabled individuals and Medicaid, also referred to as Medical. These two are funded jointly by the federal government and states but managed at the state level, which covers certain very low income children and their families. Health advocacy companies initiated to become visible to assist patients muddle through the complexities of the healthcare system (Wikipedia, 2014). In 2010 President Obama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Estimates show that plans with a greater number of plan offerings are valued more (Dunn, 2010). Elasticity of Kaiser Heath Insurance There are several approaches to estimating the elasticity of insurance offered by employment companies. The first is to apply distinctions in the premiums expressed by them to identify their price consideration. Another approach is to use the distinctions in tax ratios over cities or sates to recognize the price elasticity of recommended insurance. Insurance plans often contain hundreds of plan features that affect out of pocket pay to consumers and may be changed as easily as the premium on the plan. These out of pocket pay benefits may be particular important in the market where a minor of beneficiaries are enrolled in zero premium plans and a large portion of beneficiaries income is spent on out of pocket pay. The demand reveals that out of pocket pay have a significant weight on surplus. There is a wide difference in the amount paid to different plans across the country, with HMO plans being paid more than traditional Medicare and PPO plans being paid even more (Dunn, 2010). The demand for health insurance may be elastic if an increase in price would lead to more than a decrease in subscribers. The HMO would lose profits by raising price. Elastic demand is necessary for there to be a motivation to reduce price (Enthoven, 1993). Marginal Cost & Marginal Revenue Marginal revenue is calculated by dividing the difference in total ... • 64. United States Economic Analysis To predict the State of the United States (US) Economy is a constant and complicated duty. Professionals utilize economic indicators that may either confirm or predict long–term trends: lagging and leading indicators, respectively. This paper will attempt to asses the State of the US Economy as relatively strong by analyzing six comprehensive and representative economic indicators: Consumer Price Index, Unemployment, Gross Domestic Product, the S&P 500, Existing Home Sales, and Personal Income and Outlays. The first indicator of the economy to be analyzed is that of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This index is widely considered to be the benchmark inflation guide to the US economy. Essentially, it compares a wide base of products from year to year that are commonly bought and used by consumers on a daily basis. Because it can only gauge the general trend of inflation and cannot inherently make any predictions, the CPI is considered to be a lagging economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The official measure of unemployment is the U–3 index which is the percentage of the labor face unemployed for fifteen weeks or longer. Because this indicator can only confirm the long–term trend of unemployment it is considered a lagging indicator. In the most recent U–3 report, the unemployment rate held steady at 5%. This figure is close to what is considered full employment by economists (4.7% unemployment), and consequently bodes well for the overall economy. Moreover, since the last economic downturn, the Great Recession, the unemployment rate has consistently declined (from a peak of 10% in November 2009), indicating that the US economy is growing and that more Americans are able to sustain themselves and thus pump more money back into the economy with their expenditures. Therefore, the current unemployment figure is indicative of the strong state of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For each measure, I attempt to build the best empirical mapping as made available by my data. First, I calculate a firm's value by adding the book value of debt to the market value of equity. I measure profitability as net income over firm value, financial leverage as book debt over market equity, capitalization as book equity over assets, growth as market equity over book equity, and volatility as the quarterly standard deviation of daily log returns. For ease of replication, I collect these variable definitions into the appendix. Note that although the growth variable appears similar to the usual Tobin's q measure of non–bank firms, banks by design have a large proportion of their assets held as debt in the form of deposits, so the usual approximation of neglecting liabilities does not apply. For bank–specific variables, I also compute total income as non–interest income plus net interest income. I construct the non–interest income ratio (NIIR) by dividing non–interest income by total income, the non–bank subsidiary ratio (NBSR) by dividing the count of non–bank subsidiaries (NAICS codes not equal to 5221) by total subsidiaries, and normalize loans and debt by dividing by value. All figures use the fullest available information. All tables drop all observations missing any relevant variables. I report all ratios in percentage terms. To control for outliers outside the scope of this paper, all ratios are winsorized at the 1% level, where the sample is across all available bank– quarters in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic Analysis Of Unemployment And Its Impact On Gdp Economic Analysis of Unemployment and its Impact on GDP in Developed Countries Paul Kuechenmeister Econ 4331W August 3rd, 2014 Introduction This study examines the impact of unemployment rates to a developed economies growth rate. This paper will be built off of the most distinguished idea addressing the relation of economic growth and unemployment, Okun's Law . Okun's Law that assesses the relation between unemployment and economic growth is one of linearity . Okun's Law is the idea that there is a natural level of unemployment and when the level of unemployment is above the natural rate, economic growth suffers. This paper aims prove correlation between the level of unemployment and level of economic growth in developed countries. This dissertation will utilize a linear regression model for a cross–country regression analysis. The type of unemployment used in this dissertation will be aggregate unemployment, while drilling down and separating out structural, frictional and cyclical unemployment would be ideal in running a regression, the data is simply not present for the subset of countries used in this analysis. This study examines 25 developed countries unemployment rate per capita and GDP growth rate per capita from 1991 to 2012. Literature Review Arthur Okun published a paper in 1962 examining the relationship between unemployment rates and economic growth. Okun's paper focused on the United States post–war due to the spurt of economic growth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 72. Naked Economics Chapter 6 Analysis In the twelve key elements of economics, the second element states, "There is no such thing as a free lunch." The author described how spending money on one particular thing means that we are sacrificing the chance to spend money on something else or if we do one specific thing, we give up the chance to do something else. In chapter nine, Schiff used an allegory to illustrate this same idea. The allegory he used was when the senator, Franky Deep, realized the people enjoyed getting things for free, but they did not like to pay taxes. After a monsoon, he took this as an opportunity to develop a government reconstruction program. This program made it look like the people on the island were getting the reconstruction for free, but really, the citizens were still paying for the work. Therefore, even though the people thought the reconstruction was free, it truly was not. One recent even that relates to this idea was in an article called, "Everything the Government 'Gives' Someone Must Be Taken from Taxpayer Dollars." This article states that there is no such thing as the government giving something away free for the price of nothing. While the government has over eighty welfare programs to provide individuals free housing, cash, food, and medical care, these programs are not free. Instead, they are funded for by taxpayers. The fourth element in the twelve key elements of economics states, "Trade promotes economic progress." This element focused on the fact that products are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Boundless, 2016). Being the largest category of all interest groups, it includes organizations that represent big business such as the American Petroleum Institute. Routed mainly around ideas to benefit the members and keep the economy running, large corporations and unions also have offices in the group. Within the economic interest group includes categories such as business, labor, professional, and agricultural interests. Since money has a great influence in capitalist societies, economic interest groups are very powerful and contain many members. Usually, they are very well funded because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other groups such as the U.S Chamber of Commerce work on behalf of a wider range of business in general, helping the entire economy and not just once section of it. Since they are very well funded, business groups are amongst the most influential because they have the money to go above and beyond. Promoting interests of private companies and corporations by seeking tax changes, administrative changes, and other business gains are just some of the many benefits this group 3 strives for. Every business and business industry is different, and because of that, sometimes groups do not always agree with one another. When this occurs, advocates for the industries will usually work against one another in achieving each of their goals. Labor groups represent specific unions in aiding the attempt of increased wages and improving the conditions in which workers strive in. Unions exist all around the country big and small. Individual workers from a small union might have minimum say or power alone but when they team together they can wield compelling results. Labor unions have declined in the recent times but workers that brand together often seek the results desired. "The American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 76. Analysis Of Australi Engines For Economic Growth Tyler Strunk Australia: Engines for Economic Growth Australia is a large and diverse country and this diversity is reflected in the different types of reception businesses receive within their borders. Australia has both private and government owned businesses. The term government owned business is often interchangeable with the term SOE (State ownership enterprise). In Australia, these SOEs provide public goods such as in the case of national defense and merit goods like public health and education (PwC, 2015, p. 14). In addition, they provide necessary societal needs, such as in the case of Snowy Hydro throughout Australia and SA Water in South Australia, by providing electricity and water to the country. Government owned businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Herald states, "the survey found that consumers believe they're getting better value for money from their banking, insurance, mobile phone and internet service providers than from their electricity supplier. It also found that consumers are finding the barriers to switching providers too high, and that they feel there are no real alternatives" (Hatch, 2016). Private businesses aren't exempt from these complaint either, with the ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission) handling consumer issues in order to help ensure Australian markets stay fair for consumers but competitive for the economy (A.C. Commission, 2015). There are many factors that contribute to the success of businesses in Australia. Australia provides a safe, low–risk environment in which to do business, it is said that Australia's labor force is among the most skilled and diverse in the world. Australia has strong economic and cultural ties with the fast–growing Asia–Pacific region due to their close proximity and a shared time zone. It is also a benefiting factor to businesses that "the Australian Government promotes business investment in their country and international trade with Asia (Australian Trade and Investment Commission, 2017). • 78. Measure Economic Progress Analysis "How many economists does it take to change a light bulb? None. If the light bulb needed changing the market would have already done it."–Any website with economic jokes. However, the method that the market mentioned is being measured is neither the best nor the only way to measure economic progress of a country. Page 200 of Naked Economics quotes, "Any measure of economic progress depends on how you define progress. GDP just adds up the numbers. There is something to be said for that." I believe that the narrator is giving a caveat that GDP is simply the culmination of numerical values from consumption, investment, government spending, and net exports and despite being useful, should not be the primary measurement of economic progress. Wheelman also states that any alternative measurement tools vary based on different people's judgement of what to take into account. Similarly, I agree with Wheelman. With the government focusing on GDP and increasing investment and spending, the US was able to end the negative feedback of the recession. Utilizing GDP was successful here, but increased spending and sole focus on GDP might not help a country that's faced with economic downturns due to political instability or an epidemic. Even with the development of the HDI by the UN, it is good at measuring progress in developing countries, but not as obvious when comparing developed countries (198). In the US, policymakers do take into account unemployment, poverty, economic inequality, demographics, and happiness for fiscal policies, but these are still not technically included in the GDP, which skews the accurate condition of a country making it very hard to compare with other ...
