2. INTRODUCTION
In recent times due to effects of pollution and global
warming there is a need for generating power from
renewable sources. The reason for generating
power using gravity is that it is available all over
the Earth, abundant and consistent too. In this
project, the gravitational energy of a heavy particle
is converted to the electrical energy. When the
heavy particle falls down from a higher altitude to a
lower one,its potential energy is converted into the
kinetic energy. Then this energy is converted to
electricity by using a synchronous motor.
3. ABSTRACT Cont.…..
With the increasing of the altitude of the load, the
lighting time increases. If load increases, power
production also increases, but the lighting time
decreases.
4. THE PROBLEM
20% OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION DO NOT
HAVE ACCESS TO ELECTRICITY.THAT'S 1 IN
5 PEOPLE.
With a growing world population, this number is
projected to remain the same for the next 20
years. Without electricity, most of these people have
no other option but to use kerosene lamps to light
their homes.
5. THE PROBLEM Con….
A typical lamp is made by taking an
empty bottle or tin can, putting a wick
in the middle, filling it with fuel and
lighting.
6. SOLUTION
Solution is GRAVITY LIGHT.
GravityLight is a gravity-powered lamp designed
by the company Deciwatt for use in developing or
thirdworld nations, as a replacement for kerosene
lamps. It uses a bag filled with rocks or earth,
attached to a cord, which slowly descends similar to
the weight drive in a cuckoo clock. This action
powers the light for up to thirty minutes
7. GRAVITY LIGHT
Gravity Light is powered by
gravity without the need of a
battery, it's also seen by its
creators as a superior
alternative to solar-powered
lamps.
9. How it works…..???
Potential Energy:- GravityLight is installed to provide a 6ft/ 1.8m drop
of a 12kg weight. This weight is lifted and on release starts falling very
slowly (about 1mm / second).
Kinetic Energy:-This movement powers a drive sprocket, which rotates
very slowly with high torque (force). A polymer geartrain running through the
product turns this input into a high speed, low torque output that drives a DC
generator at thousands of rotations per minute.
High speed ratio nearly of the order of thousands.
N2/N1=n.1000(Approx)
Where, N1=RPM of driving gear
N2=RPM of driven gear, n=1,2……
10. How it works….???
The gearing took the kinetic energy from a weighted bag descending at
a rate of a millimeter per second to power a dynamo spinning at
2000rpm.
Electricity and Light:-
This generates just under a tenth of a watt, a deciwatt, to
power an onboard LED and ancillary devices. Given the ever-increasing efficiency
of LEDs, this produces a light over 5 times brighter (lux) than a typical open-wick
kerosene lamp.Once the weighted bag reaches the floor, which depends on how
high it was installed, it is simply lifted to repeat the process.

12. LITERATURE SURVEY
Sir Issac Newton had discovered the phenomenon of
gravity near 400 years ago. London researches
Martin Riddiford and Jim Reeves who have spent
four years for developing gravity light as an off line
project. They are using tried and tested manufacture
who has the right knowledge to make gravity light.
Gravity light is a revolutionary new approach to
storing energy and creating illumination. It takes
only three seconds to lift the weight which powers
gravity light, creating 30 minutes light on its descent.
14. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS
For 1kg of load from a height of 1.45m the input energy is 14.23 J and the
output by the generator is 1.62J. Hence the efficiency of gravity powered light is
11.23%. Some observations are made from the gravity light are….

17. CONCLUSION
Generation of gravity power can be increased by applying
much heavier load at the end of bicycle wheel.Though
heavy load increases the voltage and current of
synchronous motor but it decreases the lighting time of
LED. Applying heavy load, it may cause bending to the pipe
stand. So a suitable mass must be used to fall it as much
long time as possible. If we use 2.5-3 rpm synchronous
motor, the lighting time will increase.
In the remote areas, it may play a great important rule for
the education as well as fulfilling the demand of the power.
Moreover, the power can be stored in the battery so that it
may give a great advantage to emergency situation.
