GRANTHAM’S CAR PARK
   SITE ANALYSIS

•   Area – 920m² and perimeter of 128m
•   Footfall – constant students, lecturers and public walking past
•   Location – less than 10 minute walk from Bus Station and 5
    minutes from the train station which has links to Edinburgh,
    London, Manchester and Liverpool. There are several bus
    stops very close.
•   Circulation – The diagram shows how traffic is able to move
    around the site
•   Culture – There is a huge student population but it is also
    passed frequently by workers & the elderly.
•   Access – Due to the location there is simple access through a
    one way street, there are also lowered curbs so everyone
    can access site
•   Climate – Wind is funnelled down side street and tends to get a
    lot of rain, could cause some issues with the building structure.
•   The site is slightly over powered by the height of surrounding
    buildings, may cause shadowing.
•   There is constant noise and sounds from people and traffic.
•   Soil has been pre built on so may not be capable for building
    on,                          test must be done on the site
•   There may be some legal considerations to think about
•   There are a lot of different styled buildings in the area which
    means that boundaries can be stretched with the design
    process.
•   Views – There are some nice views that can be utilised
•   Orientation – This can be sued to possibly provide power to
    the building
•   Location - With the large student population this gives the
    site an opportunity to be a specialist site with certain
    customers.
•   Ecology – There is quite a lot of trees and greenery around
    the site
•   Are there any preservation orders around the site?
•   Existing services need to assess with a specialist and decide if any works need doing by
    a specialist.
•   Is it on protected land?
•   The diagram to the right shows the possible
    existing services that may be an issue,
    lampposts and man holes. There may also be
    existing services coming from the side building
    and going underneath the Grantham's site.
    This would need investigating further.
•   Site Boundaries – The area in which we are able to develop
    on.
•   History of the building and previous buildings it has
    contained.
•   Points of view of the site
