Government refers to the legislators, administrators, and arbitrators that control and organize a state. It determines and enforces state policy. There are different types of governments including democracy, elected by the people; autocracy, rule by a single person; oligarchy, rule by a dominant group; monarchy, rule by a king or queen; dictatorship, rule by a single unelected leader; anarchy, no government; capitalist, private property ownership; communist, government owns property; and republic, no monarch but an elected head of state.
