The document describes the façade of Siena Cathedral. It was built in two stages, with the lower part begun in 1284 in Tuscan Gothic style. Giovanni Pisano worked on this until 1296. The upper part was resumed in 1376 under a new design inspired by Orvieto Cathedral. It features statues by Giovanni Pisano and others of prophets and apostles, though most are copies with the originals kept elsewhere. The central door dates to 1958 while the mosaics on the gables were made in Venice in 1878.
