1. 2)
The types of games developed for Glass will be very simple games in most ways, the graphics will
be very simple due to the Glass not being created to primarily produce graphics and polygons, all
games will be 2D in order to lessen the strain the processor within the Glass. I don’t think many
games will contain audio and if they do the audio will be of low quality and in short bursts in order
to take up the least amount of space possible.
I think most the games would be puzzle games and games that make use of hand gestures and voice
controls, which could be games where you have to move your hands in front of the camera in order
to hit objects or something, which could also bring a sport genre to the Glass as well as puzzle
games, I really can’t imagine any other times of games being developed for Glass other than these
two genres, I doubt we’ll ever see an MMO on the Glass due to its limitations.
3)
There are three potential ways in which Glass could be used for future smartphone gaming; using
voice to control the game by speaking words, using hand gestures in front of the built in camera in
order to create a response within the game, using different orientations in order to control the game
which is achieved via the built in gyroscope and accelerometer.
These controls are all very basic meaning it is very unlikely that a triple A game would be
developed for Google Glass, what we have to remember is that Glass is not developed primarily for
gaming so it will be very limited when it comes to games. This also means that the device isn’t
really made for rendering graphics or playing big games, so I would imagine the game would have
very basic graphics and not have massive games.
To figure out the kind of games that could be developed for Glass we need something to compare it
to, which will be the Nintendo Wii for its motion controls, when the Wii first came out it was
bundled with Wii Sports which was a series of games which you could play with the Wii’s motion
controllers. The game contained; Tennis games, baseball games, bowling games, boxing games and
golfing games.
These are the kind of games I could imagine for Glass, mainly the tennis game, the motion controls
found in Glass would potentially be capable of running a very simple version of tennis though I
imagine this would be with orientation rather than hand gestures, so moving your head to the
location of the ball in order to hit it back.
I could also imagine puzzle games being developed for Glass, for example imagine if a Sudoku
game was developed for glass and all you had to do was say a direction such as “right” or “up” to
move a selection box on the board and then say a number and it will input that number into the
position on the grid, this is an example of how developers could utilize voice control in their games.
An idea for a game that could use hand gestures effectively could display different shapes and you
have to make that shape with your hands and you have a timer for each shape and as the game
progresses the time you get to make that shape gets shorter, this is an example of a pretty simple
game that could make good use of hand gestures with gaming on Glass.
